Anyone know what the longest cable (minimum of 6ft) that has good data transfer speeds. Attempting to use phone as vr headset for pc. Thanks. Kinda needs to be light weight too, maybe a paracord one?

Wal-Mart has ten foot cables that are pretty cheap. They have them in the PlayStation 4 accessory section and they sell for about five bucks. They work really well.

I've got the same thing from Best Buy, and it does data. In theory, USB can not throttle its self the way Ethernet can - it's either USB 1, 2, or 3, no variance between.

Why pay $20 for that cable when you can get an Anker for $11? Same length with mesh cord. Proven cables.

These look pretty good, I'm gonna check em out. $7 for 6-feet black Kevlar, not bad. Amazon Prime, FTW!
You can get optical USB cables, I've seen them in 50m lengths... They would probably cost a fair bit. They convert the signals to optical inside the plug and still pass power through the cable, but prob just up the voltage to compensate for the v drop.

I suspect they are referring to the Asus Transformer because they use a non standard voltage. I use an Anker Astro3 10,000mA pack and it charges the N7 just fine.

Agreed.... I too have the Anker Astro3 10000 and it works great.
Solidly built and has three separate charging points AND a switch to change one of the charging points to either 9v or 12v. This makes this charger also suitable for anyone with a ASUS Transformer TF101/201/300/700.
I use it to charge all my phones and tablets.

I have the Sparq 2.0 and I would never recommend it. It does not hold a charge.it sits on my desk since it is a 2 port charger it gets some use.
I have received a Cager B030 from Dealextreme to charge my Nexus 7. However, the Nexus 7 does not charge on neither ports of the device (1 A , 2.1 A)
I can charge all other devices (S3, Note, Asus Transformer) but not Nexus 7.
What does Nexus 7 look for when charging ? isn't 2.1A enough ?
http://dx.com/p/cager-b030-12500mah...-slot-5-adapters-for-iphone-ipad-black-156842
Thanks.
ok; I found the solution here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1823377
I have:
The Gum Max : which at 10400mAh and 2.1A output charges the nexus nicely, a couple of times
and
Promini 4000 which is only 4000mAh and only puts out 1A but charges my N7 perfectly albeit only about a 70% charge. It's a really nice portable solution if you just need a little bit of extra time
http://amzn.com/B003ZBZ64Q
Been using that for a few months. Plan on using it on flight to Australia in a couple weeks. Should be good for 2+ charges. I got that one during a promotion that included a free 5000 mah. Should be enough to charge my nexus once, vita and 3ds both a couple times. Plenty of entertainment for 20 hours in the air.

As far as I know it does. I tested it with Netflix, Emulators, Youtube videos, Android games, and internet browsing, and it mirrored everything pretty smoothly.
Oh and to watcher64, I guess it's just personal preference. I feel like a normal HDMI cable is much more accessible. There have been times when I wanted to connect to a TV at a friend's house and pretty much every TV these days has something which uses an HDMI cable. It's much easier to carry the adapter wit you and just swap wires than to carry a whole cable with you.

Well, it's from eBay.
To echo what has been said, I would definitely recommend a small HDMI to MicroHDMI adapter/dongle rather than getting a long MicroHDMI cable. HDMI cables are fairly ubiquitous and it is nice being able to use any cable available as long as you have the adapter with you.
I also recommend getting this rather than a straight adapter. The previously linked adapter will cause a little less strain on the port than this adapter because there would be less leverage.

I can echo what's been said before about ebay cables. I have one that works well with my XOOM and has been quite reliable (the official Motorola one I picked up off Amazon for 15 bucks or so) and a cheap one that is VERY flaky. It was okay the first few times, but after a few times in and out I think the solder connections inside got flaky. I've sold my XOOM to my mother (I'm very hesitant to sell my devices, but if they stay in the family I might get to see them again from time to time ) and I was going to give her the Motorola HDMI cable for her to use so I'm going to order one of those HDMI dongles right now and we'll see if it treats me well too.
I've been using an inexpensive cable from monoprice and it works great. I think I'm going to pick up one of those short mini-HDMI to HDMI dongles as I always seem to forget to bring the cable with me.

Finally ordered a 1$ adapter (straight , no cable) and a micro usb to OTG wire !
I went with a 90 degree adapter from eBay, as the 90 OTG cable I have works so much better then a straight one ergonomically.
Just tried the adapter i picked up at monoprice and holy crap this thing is incredible on a 55 inch screen (UN55D7050). Played the Timescape clip and the results were jaw dropping. Also text was clear and crisp just like everything else. Love this tablet more everyday.

I was looking for a cheap 11 pin since the genuine one wasnt worth for how little I plan to use it and I took a shot at this one after seeing some good reviews with s3 users.
since i am new user I cant post links. goto amazon and search for "Skque Micro USB to HDMI 11-Pin MHL Adapter for Samsung Galaxy S3 SIII i9300 i9308 i939". it should be $5 with $4 shipping
It arrived today and worked right out of the box with my note 2. no jiggling cables and no interference. Who know how it work in the long run but i doubt i will use this more then a few times so, its def worth my $10.
good luck

wow!
Just got mine in the mail little over an hour ago. Took 1 week to arrive via USPS. Works fine, lags? or refreshes? every now and then. But for $30+ cheaper than the one I was going to order from Samsung, who cares. Netflix, Youtube, and browser work fine. Time Warner app and HBOGO don't support HDMI yet. Video games work great with minimal lag. NFS Most Wanted is AWSOME!!!, as good as any console. Next I'm getting the HDMI to VGA for my monitor, a bluetooth keyboard/touchpad combo and this: http://www.amazon.com/GOgroove-Sona...54979999&sr=8-2&keywords=tablet+charging+dock
Maybe I'll post pics or video once everything is set up. I think my lonely laptop is getting jealous.
How well does this one charge when you plug it into the stock charger?
I ordered the one on amazon labeled "Skiva MHL Micro USB to male HDMI cable (6.5 feet) for Samsung Galaxy S3 (SIII LTE i9300 i535) and Samsung Note 2 Smarphones (HD-X3)". It's complete junk. Even when I connected it to the stock charger it would still slowly lose charge with the screen on the lowest setting. I guess the way that cable is setup it limits it to 500ma. It also randomly disconnects every minute or so I'm going to send it back on Monday.
I'm tempted to just suck it up and just buy the OEM cable from Samsung.

Which Monoprice one did you get? They seem to have 2 of the MHL items (and I can't find their 11 to 5 pin adapter at all).
Their MHL Item Numbers are 8675 and 9291.
EDIT: There is a link to the 11 to 5 pin adapter on the page for one of the MHL items, but it takes you to the home page. The item ID embedded in the web link appears to be 9716. Searching for that Item ID doesn't work either.
Ok im sure we are all sick of cheap cables that fall apart in DAYS!
Anyone know of a place to buy something quality that will actually hold the amperage over a longer length cable? Or where have you had good luck not spending an arm and leg for a quality cable like retail stores want.
At home i like having the longer cable for obvious reasons , and work using my OEM cable. :good:

just picked up a couple 10 footers from them....total price was under $5 and they were at my door in a few days.
they work great and give the phone a quick charge (on par with the original cables)
My original usb cable has lost its performance to charge my galaxy note.
Its current just 400mA (galaxy note normally need around 1800) . So it'll takes more time to charge.
As my experience with samsung device.
Samsung usb cable is easly lost its performance to charge.
I've tried :
blackberry gemini usb cable (400mA)
Galaxy tab usb cable (1100-1600mA)
So I'm planing to replace my usb cable with sony xperia z usb cable. (I don't know the current yet)
Anyone ever tried this usb cable?
Or do you have alternative suggestion?

Is this a serious question?
Of course, i am.
Is there something wrong?
I was getting about 500ma with my original usb cable. It was chaging very slow (about 6-8 hours to 5-100%). Used to be 2 hours to full charge when i got the smartphone.
I had a spare original motorola usb cable in my house and tested it.
It immediately give me 1800ma.
Too bad motorolla dealer is not avaiable on my city.
But thanks for your suggestion.
Yea the stock cable sucks to the max. I am using Galaxy S3 mini thick USB cable with 5 pin. The original one only have 4 pin, it's slow and produce high pitch noise while charging.

The best part, they're cheap enough that when they do break, which none of mine have yet, you'll most likely not care and you'll already have a back up, assuming you bought more than one.
Personally, I keep charges and USB cables all over the place--car, backpack, work, home.
I just switched to a Nokia brand one. Came with the e52. Full 5-pin, never seen it below 1800 while testing.
Here it is on Amazon
I had a cable from Mediabridge (not the one in the link, an older model), it was nice and snug, than became loose, than melted (seriously)...
If you want to charge to 1800 mA, you need a cable that is short or thick. Most cables I tried that weren't $1 on eBay were OK.
