*AVOID* Skinomi Tech Glass - Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Glass Screen Protector

The packaging is fancy, install is pretty straight forward... but all the means nothing if the screen protector doesn't cover the whole screen, nor adhere to it either. There is about 1-2 mm on both sides that is left uncovered by the screen protector, and then about 2-3mm where the screen protector does not adhere to the screen leaving an ugly effect. While the part that's not adhered to the screen is only noticeable while the screen is off, the portion uncovered is noticeable with the screen on. You can tell where the screen protector ends and portion not cover begins because of the curved edge of the protector. And there is an annoying rainbow effect when looking at the edge of the screen protector at an angle when the screen is off.
I wonder if these people actually "test" these screen protectors before they start selling them. Or they just go off the design specs available online when measuring.

I've got mine when they were promo'd on slickdeals for like 95 cents. The packaging is nice but there does seem to be a lot of complaints about halo's and whatnot, haven't put it on yet. Quess i shoulda researched before i bought

I installed the skinomi a while ago and it had halo but was sized much better than what is pictured here. I wonder how there can be so much variability in the manufacturing process.

Have you tried contacting Skinomi before creating a thread like this? It's very possible you just got a bad protector. Keep in mind glass protectors won't cover the entire front glass since it's slightly curved at the edges, but it does look like yours is a bit small. I have a Skinomi glass protector on my Note5 and it covers the entire visible display quite nicely (almost perfect to the edges of the display). No halo effect either.
They'll likely give you a free replacement.

Someone might have accidently packaged a different protector from another phone.
I would contact the manufacturer and they'll probably send you the correct one.

Ya sorry but i used the promotion on here and got one for .95 shipped and overall it adhered good and is sized much better than yours. Only at the bottom right corner where i believe my fingernail scraped away some of the adhesive lifting it back up was it not sticking.

Other than the slight "halo" mine fits just fine. It's doing its job of protecting the screen

Halo all the way around. I tossed mine. My phone is naked now but I will be going back to matte screen protectors when they arrive. Ran through too many glass protectors and all of them have halo. Not paying $30+ for a screen protector.

I ordered two of these (in case one arrived cracked/damaged) then I would not have to wait on a replacement to keep my phone protected. And if both arrived with out damage, then I would have a spare if the 1st was damaged during use. Both that I received were exact same size, and neither covered the display entirely.
I had no issues with "halo" effect in the screen protector itself. My issue was it does not cover the entire screen (the screen not the glass front.)
And I'm well aware that glass screen protector do not go from edge to edge of the front of the device; yet they should at least cover the actual display itself.

I have to say the screen protector can not be the way as you wanted if your screen has a little curve edge .
most of the affordable screen protector just sized down a little bit , it is easy to make also , will reduce the cost of the product
and it will be easy to go with case
as i know you have a supcase , why did you still use the screen protector ?

I've been using Android since 2008 on my T-mobile G1, and have bought new devices every year. I know how a screen protector should look and function.
Stopping the screen protector before it even covers the actual display is not acceptable or how they fit properly. (and incase you are not aware "display" is the part of the device that produce the imagery, the visual interactive part when you press the power button, not the bezel or "entire" front of the phone.)
You are stalking my reviews on Amazon, gonna start stalking them on Xda also?
And as far as your comment about SUPCASE; I have many cases, SUPCASE, Otterbox, Spigen, and UAG. Also several off brand cases.
I don't use the same case all the time, I like to switch it up. And having a screen protector on the device allows me to use cases that don't
have them built in (which most do not)

No idea what "[email protected]@" means, but good for you bud.
I have no interest in trying your "touch" case; as its a clone of the SUPCASE Unicorn Beetle PRO Series minus the Belt Clip Holster (which I already own.)

Best PET Film Screen Protector for N5...

Yup - not tempered glass, but PET film. It seems that everyone is interested in glass, and in turn, endless amounts of discussion on issues with glass protectors for the N5. I've used PET film a couple of times in the past few weeks of N5 ownership, in between installations of glass protectors. Each time, the PET film was a joy to go back to, for me. I was wondering which brands of film members have tried and what their results were.
For those who are wondering why the hell would anyone even consider using old-school film, here are the Pros/Cons of film protectors as I see them:
Pros:
- Little/no halo: If we were all installing only film protectors on the N5, we would have, by now, settled on a bunch of brands that get really good results for just about everyone. I've seen this evolution happen with a number of new phones. There's no such consensus on glass protectors for the N5.
- Easier install: if you have at least average skills, you are going to get a good, easy and quick install. Don't need to dedicate time to rubbing out edges that are standing up off the screen, and no need to break out the hair dryer.
- Less visible: really hard to tell that there is a protector on the N5.
- Cost: Film is less expensive, but glass has really come down in price as well.
Cons:
- Less protection: Hey, glass is stronger and harder than film, I get that.
- Not as smooth as glass: although film can be very good, glass is just smoother.
In my experience, it's not until I put a film protector on that I say "Damn, that looks great!" Often I can see a glass protector on a phone at a distance. If it's not the halo it's the edges top and bottom just looking like a protector stuck on the display.
So, I am not starting a case for glass vs film, I just would like to know what film you folks have used on the N5. I use Spigen film and the first install had the tiniest amount of halo above the earpiece (I don't think there should be protector in that area), but everything else was spot-on perfect. The second film is spot-on perfect all around. I have another brand in-bound as we speak.

Hey, it all depends on what you want.
I am still rocking the Spigen film. I'd say it looks perfect, but you really have to look closely to see any evidence of a protector.

I have the ones from iCarez and they don't cover past the light sensors on top which leaves an exposed area, same goes to the bottom where the home key is, but not as much.
I would also like feedback on the Pleson ones especially if they play well with a TPU Hybrid case.

Spigen and it's pretty awesome. Can't even tell it's on both by looks and feel.

No halo on my second install. PET film is far more forgivable b/c it can easily follow the curve on the display edges. That's a major advantage for those of us who want their N5 to look great - as it was designed to do. For me, glass protectors always appear to be less-than-great looking layers of glass stuck on the front of an elegantly-designed N5. So, for now, I am happily rocking a film protector.
I purchased another brand of film protectors, but I am going to hold-off on trying them out. The Spigen is just too perfect to pull-off.
I use a Ringke Slim case that does not interfere with the film at all. I had a more robust Spigen Hybrid case on with the first Spigen film I had installed, and the case would flex inwards occasionally when pressing the power button, lifting it up momentarily, but then it would just lay back down. The Ringke case is particularly good for use with full-size protectors.

Can you please post some photos of your Note with the spigen film? Right now I'm using the Nillkin glass and I'm terribly disappointed! I may consider got back to pet films after many years with glass protector!

Have you noticed the fingerprint scanner being any slower to unlock the device since installing the Spigen screen protector? I just installed mine last night and maybe I'm crazy.. But it just seems a lite bit slower than when I had no screen protector. Maybe I'm crazy! Lol.

Nope - haven't noticed that at all. Since the protector doesn't go near where the fingerprint detection is going on, I can't imagine how it could interfere.
There's lots of voodoo that's happening with the fingerprint reader that sometimes makes it perfectly accurate, other times less so. Plus, there are the variables involved when you ask a user to configure/set-up complex hardware. I'd look elsewhere.

I might have installed mine just a little bit crooked... It EVER so slightly touches the silver ring of the home button, but maybe I'm just crazy and it's not actually affecting anything haha.

No b.s spigen, no b.s expensive brand name. 5pack for $1 best screen protector I have got so far. Bestoffer4yu ebay seller from china.

I got the iCarez and it was perfect on my note4 but on the note5 it has about 1mm of halo on both sides. Not as visible as a tempered glass halo but at right angle you can see it. Its sized to exactly the LCD part so can't be cut any smaller.

Did you do anything special when you put it on the second time ? Just installed the Spigen Crystal for the first time on my N5 and there's a halo at the top, continuing a little bit down the sides

$6 for six screen protectors - done deal.
I got these first and didn't use them. I was provided a few glass protectors to test. Halo after Halo on the glass, finally I broke these out and opened them. Easy install, no real complaints. I didn't miss the feel of these, but it works with the pen well. Currently have mine, my wife and my moms phone protected with these - and three to spare :highfive:

Have you tried the hinge method? Always works for me.
I like the appearance of PET screen protectors, but compared to glass, they scratch pretty easily. On the first day, I had 2 deep scratches just by cleaning the screen with a microfiber. Also, the oleophobic coating can't hold a candle to glass, constantly wiping my screen. I'm using the Spigen Crystal btw. I like how on regular screen protectors, you can reinstall and get rid of dust if it gets stuck under though.

iCarez [3D PET Full Screen Coverage] Screen Protector

Just got this in, and I think it finalized my decision to go naked. I tried four spigens, and now two of these icarez, and the sides just won't stay down.
About the product. It's probably twice as thick as the spigen, and doesn't quite cover the screen. It covers enough though that you don't catch your finger when swiping the edge. It's goes to the edge of the screen, just not the edge of the glass. You shouldn't have any trouble with MOST cases either.
Install wasn't bad. They give you an assortment of creative stickers and rubber bands to aid in alignment. I followed the instructions exactly and my results were sub par. I consider myself to be a seasoned veteran screen protector installer. Neither these or the spigen will stay down, mostly on the lower edges. .
The feel is great since it's a very hard film. It does finger print like a son of a *****.
Edges are a little jagged.
Clarity is perfect.
Overall, it wasn't amazon prime so I'm probably stuck with em. I'll see it I can live with it till the revised version spigen is sending me come in.

Also looking for the perfect PET screen protector. I always trust spigen but I'm not liking what's currently being offered as it leaves large sections of the screen exposed. But maybe they're not as bad as I think. Mind describing the spigen screen protectors you tried out? And what are these 'revised' versions they're sending you?

Looks to have the usual glass/hard material screen protector on a curved screen issue. Namely lifting on the curve where they can never get the shape exactly right. These things are to be avoided, they never worked on the S6 Edge/S6 Edge+ and they won't work on the S7 Edge either. Not to mention the fact it doesn't cover the screen fully anyway looking at those photos. Stick to standard film protectors, if you buy the right one and apply them correctly you won't have any problems.

I have the same set arriving today, I'll let you know if I have an success installing them.

After using glass, the thought of an orange peel film protector feels like a giant leap back to 2009.
Are there any worth a damn these days?
I always used bodyguards, phantom skins, and a few other "good" brands a few devices back and the were okay because it was all that was available, but I hate the feel of all of them compared to the pet and glass.

The spigen felt better, was thinner, smoother and covered more of the glass. It went on perfect except for the bottom curved edges. They wouldn't stay down and after one or two slides in the pocket, they got lint under them. Spigen self identified and sent me this.

Using a Zagg HD Dry myself. It's nothing like the old rubbery Zagg I had on my old S2. Smooth and sticks to the screen well. Check the screenshot in the other thread.
Personally, I'd prefer a glass one, prior to buying the S7 Edge I was running with them on my Note 3 for years. But, like it or not, it simply isn't an option on this phone unless you don't mind constantly having to press it back down onto the curved edges after it raises.

I'm with you. I hate to have to go back to plastic film. I never had a plastic film protector that made me forget that I had it on. The glass protectors feel more like the actual screen. Not only do they protect from scratches they can also to some degree protect from getting screen cracks. This is my first edge phone. I had no idea that there was such an issue making a glass screen that can fit properly. I've only had my phone for 5 days and this is my longest without a screen protector ever. I may just have to go with plastic film until a decent glass protector is available.

I installed this screen protector yesterday and frankly I was very impressed. For a platic screen protector, it works and looks exceptionally well. I don't know if they re-engineered it since yuo bought yours, but mine covers my glass completely - with a case on (Spigen Neo Hybid Cyrstal) you can't see the edges of the screen protector at all - covers from the bottom of the home button to the top where the notification lights and speaker is. The feel is great - almost like glass - no bubbles - installation was tricky for me - I blew it on the first attempt and had to use the 2nd screen protector that came in the package - but at under 6 bucks for two screen protectors, I didn't mind that at all -
If you try this one, be sure to watch teh video very carefully and follow their steps to the letter - if you do - like I did the 2nd time around - the installation will go well.

If spigen does indeed fix the adhesive it sounds like that screen protector would be really good. Looking forward to some pics after you receive and install them when you get a chance.

Spigen's ultra optics back in the day were AMAZING. They were the usual PET film but anti-fingerprint except it didn't feel as rough as others and left ZERO rainbow effect on the screen. I'm still confused as to why they stopped making them for devices. But ya, the other wet application, orange peel, rubbery and tacky films are the worst. Would rather go naked than slap any of those on my screen

I thank the 3d tempered glass shoud be much better for 3d pet.

Mine installed just fine despite it not covering both sides of the screen 100% not matter how centered you make it. Since my S7E is silver it makes the bezels look like they're not sticking, but they are.

Can you please post a picture for comparison, they have been in stock and out of stock, so I think you are right they might have improved and re-engineered them. Would love to see what it looks like. Thanks.

I posted pictures of mine above which fits just fine.; it's a fingerprint magnet, but it does work. The Spigen one felt like pure sh*t and was super thin (hair thin) and had less coverage. I'm awaiting my shipment of the revised version from them now.

Right but Moscab said that his version covers the entire screen, so I was just curious. I emailed icarez and they said it covers the entire screen as well.

It technically does just not the whole front of the phone. The screen was always 100% covered but the front glass was not. He didn't specify if he meant the front glass which is different

I took some pictures with my work iPhone (so they might not be the best quality).
Impressions: shipping was pretty quick coming from California. It was packaged well and survived the trip. The packaging seems to be well thought out such that it will protect the glass during shipping.
It came with an alcohol swab to clean your screen, a microfiber cloth for final wipe and they tossed in a couple of stickers to use to grab the errant dust particle if any fan on the screen just before placing the protector.
The back of the protector has a large removable "sticker" and appears to only have adhesive on the top and bottom (although it could have adhesive on the sides, I'm unable to tell for certain).
I ordered the gold one and took a couple pictures of my phone beside the TGSP for comparison (to compare the color side by side). The protector appears to be slightly more yellow and the phone is slightly more silver than the protector (if that makes sense). For me, it's a very close match so I'm considering it a very acceptable match.
I did a dry placement to verify the cutouts before sticking it in place. The holes were precise in their position, although at the top there's an additional hole to the left of where the light sensor and LED are. My phone doesn't have anything behind that hole. The camera cutout seems to be centered well with the other cutouts centered as well.
I cleaned the screen following the instructions and carefully put it in place and massaged the whole glass to ensure a good fit.
In the following pic, you can see in the reflection the bit of "sheen" or something that is slightly "off" when looking at the clarity. Polishing the front did nothing to resolve this.
The adhesive seems to be sufficient to hold it well. On the sides, the protector seems to be cut short ever so slightly. Possibly to leave room for a case to attach. It's so slight that I'd barely notice if I wasn't scrutinizing the fit and finish.
The curve seems to be right on the money. My screen seems to have lost a tad bit of sensitivity while typing near the edge (curve) but the edge responsiveness doesn't seem lacking.
I also have the OEM Samsung leather case and took some closeup pics of the combination.
I was cautious when installing the case after the glass. The case doesn't cause the glass to lift (yet) and seems to hide the edge of the protector very well.
The raised lip at the top of the case and slightly raised lower corners do not seem to be large enough to keep the glass off of a table if placed face down. I noticed my home button stuck out enough to almost touch a table with this case on. After installing the glass, the home button is slightly recessed lower than the protector and as such will not be scratch free if placed face down.
Overall I'm very pleased with the fit and finish and how well it works with the OEM Samsung leather case. I'll reserve another post for future updates after I've used it for a few weeks.

Update 4/22:
My screen protector is lifting at the top left side due to poor adhesion. I've asked for a refund.
It still has better fit than the other options we currently have, but I'm taking it off and waiting for a Zagg.

Nice review. Hopefully this one is a winner. The biggest thing holding me back from getting one right now, is the fact that they end up disappointing everyone few days/weeks down the road.

Thanks for the review. I never had a glass screen protector and wanted one but have mixed feelings. There seems to be compromises to be made (less responsiveness, might come off, "sheen", looks since I prefer just a clear one so I can see my gold s7 edge true color). I am really tempted to go naked on it but I been reading that some people have scratches on their screens When no protection. I would still probably go with this tho.

The only thin & clear case I have that still offers a front lip & doesn't affect the TGSP at all is the Tauri clear case.

Yeah it kinda sucks (the lip ordeal).. I can feel it's raised up a bit but mostly because the glass turns down a bit. The protector rolls up a bit before it makes the "edge" turn and I think this is where it would touch.
It's an ever so slight touch when face down, but I think it does touch in places.
If the phone got dropped face down with this case and protector, the protector would break most likely.

Just fitted a black GPEL screen protector to my S7 edge.
The fit is fantastic. It's also really easy to fit.
My only criticism is that there's a slight "haze" to the inside of the screen protector that gives a slight sparkling effect with a light screen.

Also the responsiveness is not that good. I can hardly press a or q on a nordic keyboard. I really have to press down hard to get those letters.
My Gpel glass came with a few dents in it.. Maybe this is why the responsiveness is so bad. I have emailed gpel about this.
The glass is not clear but sparkly.. I don't like that at all.. I feel like I am giving up too much quality of this awesome screen just to protect it.
I will try again if I get a replacement, but for now it is back to a Ultimate Shield screen protector for me.

I noticed the effect as well. I'm a window tinter by trade so glass is my Forte and I noticed the haze right away.
In the OP there's a picture of the bottom the screen with a reflection of my ceiling fan lights where I mentioned this effect. It's very evident in that picture.
I don't notice it much while using the phone though so YMMV

I can notice the slight sparkle when there's a light background.
That said it appears to be the best available screen protector out for the S7 edge.

I read all the threads and reviews and chose this one for that reason.
Maybe Zagg or someone else will release one that's even better, but until then, this one fits the bill as long as it doesn't lift or anything in a few weeks.

This "sheen" problem usually occurs in cheap screen glass screen protectors in days of old. When glass screen protectors were still a novelty. When people were still experimenting with how glass SPs should stick on your phone. This problem occurs when the whole glass does not touch the screen. By putting a layer of glue, even less than a milimeter, on the top and bottom part of the screen, the rest of the glass is essentially hovering over your phone's screen.
When it does touch it, glass on glass, u get that swirl problem. that oilly problem. And it will only get worse as time goes by as the glass that sticks together tends to stay together, due to friction, and then the rest of the glass sp starts to bend

It seems to be on the exterior as well. I also noticed it before I put the sp on the phone.
I'll agree that is inherent in this glass protector, and it really sucks but I'll live with it for now until something better comes along.
The rest of the fit and finish is outstanding imo.

I usually use a screen protector with every phone I've had but with the s7e it's just too hard to find something decent that doesn't affect the quality of the display "one of main reasons I went with s7e is for the gorgeous display, so instead of endless search and money for screen protector I just bought insurance instead

OnePlus 3 Tempered Glass suggestion

I live in desert area and there literally unlimited amount of sand everywhere!
can anyone suggest me a good tempered glass? I have checked some on amazon but reviews says they suck!

I have had two different TGSP now and they both End up the same. Does not stick to the edges due to the curved screen. But mine does not Collect lint at all even though it does not adhere to the screen.
I have not tested orzly or similar but they seem to work bad with cases so.. heard though that orzly were coming with a new model soon that is slimmer.

Tried a few, all junk.. Until i bought the orzly brand. The one with the black tinted frame.
I could be lucky but It fits perfectly, stick securely to the screen and is now holding for 10days of very heavy use without a scratch or bubble or anything.! Can be used with the original sandstone cover and does cover the whole screen!

Pictures and link to the specific protector you use? Would it work with cases with a lip around the front screen?

I ordered one similar. Is it easy to apply? your general thoughts on clarity, touch, etc?

I think it is the best for phones with cases even though there are issues with the "Halo" and it doesn't go edge to edge. The edge to edge or full coverage tgsp pull up with cases.

It depends on how you are aligning the TGSP. For my personal preference I've installed it a little more towards the left side to maintain perfect readability and on the left I can see 1.5 mm halo effect that is like some 2.D visual bending effect. With the screen on you notice a some small rainbow effect but that is the only noticeable distortion. I will send some picture later

Has anyone tried the TGSP from OnePlus? Does seem to be on the pricier side, but since it's from OP, it shouldn't have any problems with fitting at least

This is like the only quality tgsp available in my area, so can you tell me, does it fit with casings like the tudia merge? Cause I'm thinking of buying/

Using Nilkin Amazing H+ PRO. It doesn't stick all the way because of the curved screen but it doesn't colect dust in those gaps. Actually no glass for OP3 sticks to the very end. It's all transparent (no black areas), and covers the front camera.
I saw this review and went for it. Can confirm that everything in the video is true.
EDIT: Can't confirm any compatibility with cases since I don't have and don't use any.

EDIT: Got a refund, the glass started to completely come off the top of the phone, and what with covering the notification light and a bit of the front-facing camera, that was the end of it.
I put the Pleison tempered glass protector on my OP3 yesterday; it's the 'new version' screen protector found on Amazon. It's OK, it covers the screen (I've also got it in a Spigen Neo Hybrid case), but the cutout for the front-facing cam isn't exact, there's a bit of 'shadow' on the right-side of the cam when you go to take a picture/video chat/etc. It also completely blocks the notification light, which is a PITA.
The top of the protector isn't 100% adherent to the screen, there's just a tiny bit of gappage that you can feel. Also, it makes it a little less than responsive when swiping down to open up the status bar/Notification Bar, you have to make sure to press a little harder than you normally would.
There was a little 'rainbow' effect going on when I first installed it, but that went away by the end of the day. All in all it seems like one of the better protectors out there, given Amazon reviews, but I don't think any company's got it down 100% yet. I have no idea why......

Brought the OnePlus TGSP with the phone a few months ago. The glass is the same size as the film that came with the phone, so it doesn't cover edge to edge. Pretty annoying because there's about 1 mm gap on each side between the edge of the screen and the TGSP. I haven't put it on yet.
It seems like all of the TGSP leave a halo effect based on the reviews.

I am using the Orzly glass and I am not fascinated about it.
Yes it covers the whole screen, yes it is compatible with the original OnePlus Snadstone hard case.
What i don't like is that it collects a lot of fingerprints thus making the screen hellish in direct sunlight. Add this to the clearly visible dots and one of the advantages of OP3 is gone.
I am still researching for a good TGSP and might try the new one from OP.

Yeah, I edited my original post; in addition to the blocked notification light and partially-covered front-facing camera, it started coming off the top of the screen even more. Got a refund from Pleson.

it does fit with orzly tpu case and the official karbon case, so it should fit with every other case
