Please help - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
Firstly, I would like to point out that I'm very much a newbie in terms of customizing phones (rooting, recovery, flashing ROMs etc). However, after much research, I decided to flash a ROM on my S3 Mini i8190n. The ROM I used was CM11 4.4.4 Kitkat. I pretty much followed the flashing process down to a tee, but I've encountered a significant problem. My phone starts up and then the animation comes on, furthermore, nothing happens after this, it's just a continuous animation. The animation is new to me, so I'm guessing the ROM partly flashed ok, but I don't understand why my phone sticks at this point. I'd like to point out that I have tried wiping data/dalvik and factory reset to no avail.
If you guys could assist me with this problem, I would greatly appreciate it.
Many thanks,
Pinda

RESOLVED
Hello guys,
I'm surprised I haven't received any responses from the experts on this site, but I understand sometimes threads go unnoticed.
Just an update, after a stressful week trying to fix my phone, I finally managed to restore it back to the stock ROM. I still don't know what cause the start-up animation to stick and constantly loop, it's a mystery to me. However, I finally managed to flash the stock ROM via Odin after downloading the official firmware from Samsmobile. It was such a relief seeing the green 'PASS' sign and seeing my precious S3 mini boot up, it was blissful seeing something other than the boot-up animation on repeat. The whole ordeal has made me realise that flashing custom ROMs etc just isn't worth it, especially if the handset you own is pretty decent anyway.
Just a quick question for you folks, a lot of forums mentioned flashing a pit file with the firmware on Odin and that's what I did to successfully restore my phone. However, I am still quite unsure what the pit file did, can anyone shed some light on this..

Good afternoon
I would just like to say that my phone is still running smoothly, so I think the official stock firmware is running ok without problems. However, I've noticed that my phone still has CWM recovery installed despite flashing the original firmware for my variant, is this normal? Seems strange to not have root and still have CWM on my handset....

[Q] AT&T logo removal question

Hello everyone,
New user here. Have had my Rogers Captivate for a few months now. So far I've been able to find everything I needed by searching the site.
I do have a quick question though. I recently tried backing up my phone through rom manager (Backup Current Rom) and found that because I was on Rogers Froyo 2.2 that I had a patched recovery file. I then found the thread on replacing it with the 2e version, but in doing so I must have messed something up and my phone would not boot.
I proceeded to use the Odin One Click installer to flash my phone back to stock 2.2, but soon realized this was AT&T version. I found the stock Rogers 2.2 and used Odin to flash to that.
My problem is that I now have an AT&T boot screen show up for a couple seconds when the phone is started up. Not really a big problem, but would like to get it back to how it originally started.
So I did some searching and found the thread Here on how to get it back.
I read most of the thread and came across this post.
So my question is, can I just download that md5 file, flash it with Odin (PDA) and I will be back to how the phone originally booted?
Sorry for the long winded post, but I just want to make sure that I get this right and don't brick my phone.
Any help is appreciated, and as I said, I have searched extensively but it wasn't 100% clear to me if this is the approach I should take.
Thanks a lot!
Take a look at this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11039455#post11039455
This is incredibly easy
I used it a couple of times without any problems.
Maybe this I896 bootlogo from the op of the "get rid of AT&T logo on your I9000 rom" thread could be a nice replacement for the at&t logo.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=458488&d=1291752110
I saw that thread but it says for i9000 based roms.
I am running the Stock Rogers 2.2 rom so I didn't think I should follow that guide
So can anybody shine some light on my original post? I'd really like to get rid of the AT&T logo on boot, and with the luck I've had so far, I want to make sure I understand this 100% before trying anything.
Thanks for the help

[Q] official update doesn't work

Hi everyone
Thanks for everyone's support before. It gave some confidance.
It doesn't work though. It's starts updating and then reboot with the message "Update failed, try using Kies, or go to Samsung service centre".
I removed root it didn't help. I got CWD flashed. Could that be a problem.
Could I get rid if it just to be able to uodate?
Need some help here. Kies seems dodgy judging by the posts.
Thanks in advance.
You need stock recovery if you want to update the official way.
What do I do
Could you explain to me what to do please. And should I mess with Kies. Or it wouldn't work either?
Or may be I could just flash it with Odin? Do you know where I could get
the latest Honeycomb flashable file? Since I already have CWM. And everything from xda seems to work. I just thought mabe just ODIN that update if I could get it.
Stock recovery means that I would need to get rid of CWM. How could I do it please?
Surprisingly enough I managed to get back to stock recovery. The Guide in this forum is amazing. I was scared stiff since i never done it before. It went well but still the update doesn't work. No root. No CWM. Still stops and reboots.
Anyone any ideas please?
Exactly what are you trying to do? You want the latest stock rom? Yes, you can flash it with Odin, there's a guide for that also.
I think it worked. I flashed a stock recovery with Odin. And then updated with Kies. It went down rather well. I sleepless night and all that stress just to see that I liked HC 3.1 better. Especially the dock bar that I could swipe before. And now I have to hit a stupid mini triangle.
Anyway, learnt quite a lot. Used Odin for for the first time and CWM. Cool.
It crashed already twice. Could it be because of installing too mush stuff too quickly? I'm just too impatient to get it back on the road. Like over a 20 apps at the rate of 2 or 3 at a time. Or is it supposed to be able to take it and sth is wrong with the ROM?
Cheers
Nobody cares probably but I'd just like to thank everybody who replied to
my posts. Everything seems to work now. I think it's better. Ebook in the update rom reads French now. Which is handy. That's life, as far as the fact that I bought Moonreader goes. Google play did a wierd thing that I didn't ask for but It saved me about 5 hours. It just backed up, finaly that feature worked, 95% of my apps and then automaticly reinstalled them after a crash and a factory reset. So now I have to sort out the sleep debt.
Love this forum even more now.
Oh and the Guide is ****ing brilliant.

[Q] How do I reboot after installing ClockworkMod?

I attempted to root my SGS (which had stock Gingerbread Value 2.3.6) using a guide on the Snappyguides blogspot page (the system won't let me, as a newbie, post the URL).
Odin did its thing and then the Samsung Galaxy screen came up (just the white lettering, not the multicoloured animated S) and then... nothing. It just stayed like that for about five seconds, then the white Samsung Galaxy S came up again, then the blank screen ad infinitum.
I can access the download screen and I can access the recovery screen (which does seem to indicate that ClockworkMod v2.5.1.0 has been installed). The trouble is that none of the options seem to do anything.
I have tried searching the forum for similar problems and have read the sticky. The only answers I seem to have been able to find so far suggest flashing a new Rom.
Before I go this far, is flashing a new Rom really necessary in this instance? I have never done this procedure before, so I'm wary of messing things up even further. But obviously if the phone is past the point of no return as far as the stock Rom is concerned, then that'll be what I have to do.
I'd appreciate some advice before doing anything else to my phone though.
I now seem to be able to get the recovery menu options to respond, so maybe all is not lost. Have set it to root and it's currently converting to EXT4 and is about halfway through that.
I'm hoping once that's done, it'll be bootable.
If not, what do I need to do to make the SGS boot again? Is there any way of getting back to stock or can I only flash a stock rom back on?
Nope, still not booting. It just keeps going to the Samsung I9000 white lettering, stays there for five seconds, goes blank for five seconds, then the white lettering goes back and on, off like that forever.
So... anyone willing to help?

Thanks for responding.
Sorry for being a n00b but I can't find anything in there that helps me. All I see is a lot of jargon about various roms, kernels and something called Voodoo.
I had a working phone with Gingerbread 2.3.6 Value. I added Clockworkmod via Odin. Now I can't get the phone to boot beyond the splash screen. It doesn't even get as far as the animated S, all I get is the splash screen going on and off every few seconds.
All I want is to get my phone working again, I really couldn't care less about custom roms etc.
If anyone can help this poor n00b, I'd be very grateful!
Incidentally, I've downloaded what I understand to be the factory rom for JW4 from sammobile.com - this is a 171MB zip file with just two files inside - a tar file called JW4_JW5_JW4 and a dll file called SS_DL.dll. I'm not really sure what to do with these to restore my phone via Odin. This is the kind of thing I need help with - the threads I've read so far don't make much sense to a poor confused n00b I'm afraid.

OK, thanks for that. I'm supposed to be asleep right now, so I'll come back to this later but thanks for helping.
But just to clarify for now - this will restore the phone to a working version of 2.3.3 and from there I can get back to the latest stock rom (2.3.6) via Kies, yes? I need to get into Kies anyway to restore my contacts from backups (as I haven't yet seen a way of restoring the backups except via Kies).
Thanks once again.

Well, I did get it working again in the end by using a factory rom. Thanks for your help anyway, W1nst0n.
I do intend to attempt to root it again but this time I intend to do it properly.
Any suggestions on what may have caused the boot problem I had? Perhaps using a version of ClockworkMod that was incompatible with 2.3.6 Value?

[Q] please help me.. not sure if bricked my phone or what.

Hi,
I am really confused, yesterday I flash Alba LQ2 rom latest full with no problems.
I like ICS its very good but slight problems occurred today.
This all happened during my travels to London in the train.
so I noticed my note did not go to deep sleep, so read in the forums to put on flight mode, turn off phone. take out batteries for a few mins(in my case 5 mins), put it back in turn on phone and turn off flight mode.
I did that but when I attempted to turn on the phone it just stayed on the samsung logo flashing white and blue for 20 minutes. I restarted it and the same thing.
As this happened in the train i panicked. I went to CWM with no problems and tried to flash the same rom again without clearing any data or cache and so on.
the following came up:
CWM-based Recovery v5.0.2.7
-- Installing: /emmc/AlBa_XXLQ2_Full.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
AlBa XXLQ2 Full
and the bar where it shows it working stayed empty for 15 or so minutes, so i got annoyed and tried it again, went back to cwm without a problem did the same and the same thing popped up. I've kept it till now and it is still the same for the past 1 hour and 20 or so minutes.
I don't want ICS anymore, I just want to go back to GB right now. Have I bricked my note? if not, can anyone guide me to get back to GB if possible.
Thanks in advance.
oh and my phone was not overheating whatsoever. it seems cool till now.
assuming no one has replied, just to say, ive sorted it out, i restored to a rooted gb rom via pc odin and then wiped data. and now its fine, may give paranoidandroid a shot.
You may have to give your flashing hobby a breather for now.. .you just came from a nearly brick experience and now you want to try to flash another ROM again?
Sooner or later, you may encounter that infamous HARD BRICK BUG that people are saying all over the Galaxy's Note's thread..
Just caveat in flashing or changing ROM always...
you never know what your gonna get until you will finally get it....
Cheers!.
From what I gather so far, you were smart enough to not wipe data or anything so you were not bricked at all with the eMMc bug and you knew what to do on your own (probably by reading the forums) which I would say I am proud of you for.
You did correctly by flashing to Gingerbread. Now, you want to try ParanoidAndroid (I must say it is fantastic). It's based on CM9 so it's easy. Since you are on GB, make sure you are rooted. Flash the CWM.zip file (in drketan's thread). Then, flash ParanoidAndroid. Wipe cache, dalvik cache, and data. Reboot. Enjoy awesome hybrid settings.
thanks both of you. oh my, i must paranoidandroid is really good, never thought i could witness so much from a community built rom.
yh I didn't wipe data when i was at ics, i knew the phone will die if I did. anyhow thanks.
@letters_to_cleo, i guess your right, ill stop flashing for a while.
the reason i do this, its just because I have some knowledge on the linux world coming from n900 maemo and so on its all good fun and interesting to see how open android really is.
If you read the OP and stickies, you will be fine. So, continue flashing! It's fun when you follow the rules given.

Note 5 kernel help.

Hi guys,
I'm new to the forum and I tried my best to find a solution but couldn't hopefully you guys can help me. Here the steps I took to root, flash ROM and kernels on my note 5.
I first installed TWRP recovery and it was successful. I was able to boot my phone. After few hours some apps start to open by themselves so decided to root it again but this time I thought about installing a new ROM as well. Flashed my phone with Crisscross note7 ROM and found out that it erased my OS after digging found out the guy didn't update his post regarding crisscross problems. So I tried installing Minotauros ROM it was successful but now my phone is stuck at the SAMSUNG logo and keeps vibrating occasionally.
Hope you guys can help me get this fixed today. I have no other phone to play with
Edit: I let it boot for almost an hour after installing the ROM for the first time so I don't think I interrupted the process.

Sounds like a kernel issue. Try to find another one. Some kernels aren't patched for the new ux roms

Indeed it was. I thought arter97's kernel did support UX roms but apparently it doesn't. I unzipped Jim2sad's kernel and it worked. Thanks for the help.
P.S. Had to play a lot around to figure this out XD
