Is it just me or is there a real lack of working custom roms for Marshmallow N920P Note 5s? I don't even really want a custom mod... but been trying for days to get xposed going on my note and it doesn't want to run on the rooted stock rom (CF Auto Root). I have tried several different roms and can't get anything going. I also can't find anything that SPECIFICALLY states compatibility with N920P, just a couple roms where developers say it "should" run. But alas, been trying for 3 days now and still cant get a working custom rom or any help just to get xposed running...
Any suggestions?

Did you look in the Sprint Note 5 forums? Always look for carrier specific forums and not General. There are a couple in there including Moar which is a very customized ROM. Not a lot of Sprint Note 5 ROM options but Moar is very feature packed. You can add Xposed to it yourself. There's a QA forum to post questions so if you any try to post them there and not in the ROM develeopment thread.
I used this for a standard deodex rom and used the official build for xposed mm on x64 xposed modules works great on mine
edit: you may want to upgrade OTA before you root to get a good stock because I had to look forever to get a good stock rom after I softbricked mine

@henderjr
Have you run this rom with xposed? Wouldn't normally worry but it actually lists xposed in the known issues and states "run at your own risk"...
@Kade Farbo
That stock rom would be fine, but it is for PC3. WIll it work on mine? (N920PVPU2BPD2)
Edit: The rom installed successfully, but it looks like xposed isn't wanting to boot. Same thing happened on the stock rom, perpetually stuck on the sprint LTE Plus screen.
Update:
After trying several combinations of roms/xposed I finally got them working.
I tried the standard deodex rom, which installed correctly. Then tried to flash xposed-v86-sdk23-arm64.zip, installed successfully but wouldn't boot. Same happened with using cf root on stock rom.
I tried installing venom note, install completed successfully but also wouldn't boot.
Finally I installed MOAR, installed without a hitch. After reading the discussion there I followed the recommendation of a poster that stated he was using xposed-v85.1-sdk23-arm64-custom-build-by-wanam.zip. Framework installed and finally booted! Yay! So it looks like this setup is definitely the way to go!

Yeah Xposed with MOAR works fine. The developer just doesn't want people to post about bugs or issues if they have xposed running.
Does anyone ever read OPs? It says right in the Xposed OP that Xposed bootloops stock/stock based Samsung ROMs.

Sorry I meant to reply last night Wanam's unofficial MM xposed framework should be fine. Start with deodex rom and follow the instructions. I recommend this over any custom ROM for most stability and closest to vanilla experience while being able to use all root/xposed features

I may have liked the "more original" rom better, but MOAR seems to be just find and running smoothly. Wanam may have worked on that rom for me, but I didn't find it until flashing MOAR. Honestly after struggling so much to just get anything going, I dont feel like going back through everything just to get xposed on the deodex rom. I'll just stick with MOAR for now lol
Thanks for the help everyone.
Im running Wanam Xposed on the stock odexed ROM.
You can deodex any Odexed ROM with Root Explorer. Just Search .odex in Root Explorer, wait till it finishes, and delete all the files it lists. Bam. Deodexed stock rom, no flashing ROM required.
MOAR is awesome.
Te best Custom rom os laslamy if you looking good battery and mods.

Too many to list I flash something new every other day. May just stick with CPTB stock odex Rom running xposed modules till 4.4.4 drops. TBH stock just seems so much smoother than all the custom roms even with using xposed.
I'm running ViperRom. I have NO issues at all. So many tweaks that I can set my phone the way I want it.

I saw that too. In their thread it say neither Sprint nor Verizon were supported. I was updating TWRP using MultiROM Manager and accidentally let it install ElementalX, and it booted no problem. I haven't noticed any problems with regular use, but I do think it's weird.
Edit: Even though it was working, I didn't want to risk any stability. I went ahead and flashed flar2's port instead.

The one in MultiROM Manager is built to work on all Carriers. I posted them in the MultiROM thread and stated that, btw. And I'm using them myself, as well.
P.S. My daily ROM is Bad Boyz HK, but I have GPE, CM & my stock rooted also installed via MultiROM.
About to add @sun_dream's 4.4.4 port.

That makes sense. I hadn't noticed any problems, but didn't take the time to read up on why it was working. I saw you mention somewhere else that flar2's port worked fine, so I went ahead and installed that on blind faith.
I was not aware that you could run both a GPE and a Sense ROM with MultiROM. I have some reading to catch up on. That is something that I would very much be interested in. :highfive:

Ok so I got into this because I got a spare phone from a guy that tried to root and install custom rom but couldn't get it to work and had thought he had bricked the phone. The phone still worked but would not display anything so I used adb and installed multirom recovery and then flashed I believe the fluent lollipop rom. got the screen to work and added a secondary bad boyz rom to install. What I want to do is find a good beginners guide on what a Kernel is and what to look for when changing roms and kernels, would like to try CM12 lollipop so would need to know which recovery to install and how to uninstall the multirom, and would like to just find a straight forward breakdown of how this works. thanks again for any teaching I can gain from anybody.

Thank you that was a very good read.
For information on MultiROM (and how to remove it) check the thread below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/development/multirom-v28-unofficial-port-t2884413
For an explanation of what the kernel does, look below:
http://m.androidcentral.com/android-z-what-kernel
As far as recoveries go, your best bet is to stick with TWRP. You can find links to the official version in the TWRP thread in Original Development. Captain Throwback also maintains an "unofficial" version offering MultiROM support over at theMikMik.
Hey fellows,
After having the Gear VR sitting at my desk for a couple of days I finally received my Note 4 (N910F). Updated it to Lollipop right away and afterwards tested the Gear VR, which was working just fine.
As the stock rom didn't gave me the freedom I needed / wanted I rooted it and installed a custom rom (EchoePop). After setting everything up I tried to fire up the VR. Installing the apps etc was no big deal. As soon as I plugged it into the VR I heard the sound and see the blue start screen. This only gives me the loading graphic and doesn't go any further.
Because I thought they might removed this service as part of their de-bloating I installed the Alexndr Lollipop because it's a stock rom that only removed apps that you can find in the Play Store. Same procedure here but also the same result.
The kernel shouldn't be a problem here, I guess. Besides from the fact that there is no lollipop custom kernel available yet?!
Did someone have a similar experience and knows the solution for it? I hope it's not an overall issue with custom rom.
Thanks,
FutureBSD
Doesn't work with stock lollipop either. Tried stock then custom odexed and deodexed. From what I read it is kernel related, sammy sent the kernel to oculus to mod it for gear vr which was the reason for the lolipop delay. Hopefully it will be fixed in the next round of lolipop releases, pretty sure that's why the USA variants don't have lolipop yet.
Ah alright. I heard the rumors that they delayed the Lollipop release because of this. As they released Lollipop I was just assuming that it had been fixed. And I thought I tested it after updating to Lollipop. Well, maybe I mixed that up.
I was the same but all i can think of is maybe the vr isn't released in Germany so they released it there first and are waiting for oculus to fix the kernel before the next round of releases. Really hope so as I've had to go back to kk
The VR has been released in Germany. I ordered it there as I live in Germany. Also I just read on Reddit that people have it working on Lollipop but it doesn't seem to be the best experience.
Wow can you link me please as I don't know anyone who has it working on lollipop. Would like to know how they did it
Sure thing. I post the link to the discussion on Reddit and the Oculus forum. It's the same topic but the official Oculus forum might be the better source for quicker official updates.

Wonder if it's exynos and snapdragon? Maybe works ok on exynos. I've tried everything and it just won't launch for me
This is something specific to an item that's removed in the custom rom. I had this exact issue on Exynos as well, custom rom was blue screen, then shaded black/blue screen, both static.
Flashing a rooted stock made it magically work.

Why fight it guys, just go stock rooted. You can add many of the best goodies yourself anyway using xPosed Modules. Lollipop is so damn fast and pretty on it's own the benefits of debloat and all that aren't as significant anyway. I'm sure they'll sort it eventually. Good luck.

Wierd it never worked for me at all on lollipop and all I did was root stock
I'm currently checking with _Alexndr what has been touched by him during creation. But maybe it's just something simple like the Device status that's changing from Original to Custom. Wouldn't be surprised after all the Knox warranty crap

Did you full wipe prior to flashing the rom? When restoring your apps, did you uncheck data and make sure you didn't restore any system apps? Any conflict could be breaking things. Have you tried flashing the rom clean and running GVR prior to restoring anything? Are you running Xposed or does it come with the rom? That has a history of causing problems on occasion. Try deleting it and see what happens.
** I know you're an experienced user and this stuff is probably obvious to you. Just throwing out ideas. Almost 4,000 thanks and you're not a developer? I'm impressed.

I didn't wipe when i used odin and obviously never restored anything. I did full wipe on every twrp flashable zip I've flashed though. I've flashed deodexed and odexed roms both made with archi that were just plain rooted stock with only busybox and init.d support added.

My note 4 is now android 5.1.1 , and I heard that you must flash custom Kernel to avoid boot loop when rooting android 5.1.
I don't know where to start, can anyone please tell me what the current most stable, fast and battery friendly solution for Note 4?
What I can think of so far are:
1. root + custom kernel+some way to debloat
2. Stock debloated TW rom like: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/snapdragon-dev/trltecan-n910w8-aoa1-stock-rooted-t3025538
3. Modified stock debloated TW rom like: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-tmobile/development/moving-please-dont-post-t2943845
4. Custom rom like cm: https://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=trltetmo
ps: Apart from custom kernel, can we also root 5.1.1 note 4 by Install 5.0.1 Bootloader ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/development/root-5-1-1-n910c-t3190520 Is there some other ways that I'm not being aware of?

If it helps, I rooted and installed a modified international TW ROM. I lose wifi calling. (Never used it) Lose Tmobile hotspot (FoxFi replaces this just fine) Other then adding the APN manually and changing the region in my build.prop to US, it was pretty straight forward. If you want debloat, just root, add TWRP, wipe the stock rom and add a custom one. I prefer modified TW because of stability. I flashed the international because its 5.1.1. So far it runs very well. The ROM I flashed required no additional flashing of a kernel . Look at my sig for the ROM im currently on

I have decided to compile a list of ROMs that I have successfully booted, while maintaining root. This is, more or less, a continuation of this thread, just wanted to create a more thorough and organized collection. The Flashfire app adding aroma support has really opened up some possibilities for us, and with the extended delay of Marshmallow, I felt this could be helpful to some of you wanting to try something new. Also, I'd like to thank @Rakuu for the idea, I want to test more roms and expand on our list.
WARNINGS: The roms listed are not officially supported, thus results may vary. This is the standard liability warning, I am not responsible for any damage you do to your device using the roms and/or methods given. In the event a rom doesn't boot, you can try flashing the following kernels for your device using ODIN in the AP slot. It should also be mentioned that some of these roms contain aroma installers and require Flashfire, as safestrap does not support aroma.

Hi there,
I tried this rom, but hangouts crashes. Tried a full wipe, cleared dalvik and cache, cleared data and cache on hangouts, uninstalled and reinstalled hangouts, still crashes. Does it work for you?
Well, I dumped the Infiniti ROM. I need hangouts. Tried everything including flashing 3 different Gapps packages for 5.0 through flashfire. I've tried probably 15 different Roms over the years and I've stumbled on the best one of all:
Freedom from is by far the best for the att s5. It has an AOSP feel to it. You dont even notice TouchWiz. It has the Google dialer and camera(won't do 4k, but I use open camera and force 4k. The dialer alone makes it so much better. I encourage everyone on att s5 to use freedom ROM. I flashed it though flashfire.
One note. There is no boot up screen, just stays on the initial Samsung boot loader screen. First boot took like 10 minutes too. Also, you will need to change the APN (it's set for Verizon) to your carrier. I'm on an unlocked att s5 using T-Mobile. Was easy to change the APN.
This ROM rocks!

Well, just noticed the Freedom rom doesn't have any tethering options. If anyone knows how to enable this, please let me know. I'm off to put another rom on this (again). Thank you ATT for locking the bootloader, jackasses.
Thank you very much. But i'm lost in how to install these roms, especially the Phoenix. Need help. (G900A).

Can you tell me witch onde is better? Alliance, TMS5 or Phoenix?
Is aliance 9.0 working through flash fire ? Do I need to flash a kernel after I flash rom ? A few directions might help .... v8.0 worked great. I'd like to try v9 but seems Noone wants to actually post any help for all the people asking ....just telling people to flash in ff and nothing else is not very helpful .... do I wipe ?do I need a separate kernel ? Is there Change log for this version ? Anything I need to no about it ?

I just flashed the Phoenix v11 and i got the AT&T no go screen. As @IJoxer wrote, i flashed the G900A OC4 Kernel via Odin in AP slot and download mode in the phone (power+vol up+home) and the rom booted nicely. I think that they already tested these roms of the post and they work somehow.
Just want to thank again for all effort.
PS: is a team developer rom better than single person rom in general? Any advice of Phenix vs TMS5 vs Alliance?

As far as I have seen tms 5 was better than any thing we had until the phoenix ROM came around its a bit snappier than tms 5 and a bit more stable also . tms 5 seemed laggy after a while . also I've noticed if you don't leave at least 1gb of phone memory for any ROM to run on it will get buggy . for a while I thought it was the ROMs . but found out it was lack of memory . but I prefer Phoenix ROM myself.

Thank you for you help!
I used for a considerable time the TMS5 3.0 and the Alliance v8 roms and I had the same impression about the laggy stuff. Also, I came in the same conclusion as you about the time of use, lack of memory and get buggy. I agree in all of that.
I tried the Phoenix yesterday and I liked it very much, but I got confused about the aroma choices. Could help me with the must have choices? About the kernel OC4, is this the stock kernel for android 5.0? I noticed thar TMS5 3.0 and Alliance v8 use the OC7. What's the difference and i will lost much in using the OC4?
Is there any other roms that you recommend?

OC7 is basically the OC4 Kernel for the G900F, which is the international version of the S5 that the ROM was developed for.
When you see a ROM that needs OC4 or OC7, its usually safe to use OC4, OF2, or OF3 because they all run the exact same Kernel.

Thank you very much for your answer. Also, thank you for all your work. I believe that many of us are anxious for a 6.0 rooted rom... :good:

Hey there, sorry I've been a ghost here lately. I'm also anxious to see if @AptLogic gets MM rooted rom running. As for a recommendation on the roms listed, I would definitely recommend Xtrestrolite 2.2, and it is my personal favorite. It comes with literally no apps though, so you'll need to download Google Play Services/Playstore manually and throw them on the phone via PC. I also recommend a file manager since you need to get around in order to install them.
Good luck!

Well at this point it seems that we need to be able to modify the boot image for the rooting... Which doesn't really bode well for us because locked bootloaders don't like it when you do that. Still working at it though, just trying to force a systemless root onto the system. Should have test build 3J out by this Saturday or sooner..
IN THE MEANTIME IF YOU WANT A S6 MM PORT I CAN GET THAT RUNNING IN A SNAP!

Personally, I'd prefer the rooted MM rom, I've had it with stock, and I'm sure an s6 port would be a headache without root. However, you're the one contributing, so I suppose it's up to you, either way it's appreciated. I'm still looking at my options to downgrade, if any, I'm willing to test, but looking for possible recovery options just in case.
I need me some root!
