Just to confirm this was via the stock recovery menu (sideload FireOS) and not some other means. If accurate the 5.1.2 image may have been corrupt which isn't uncommon on larger downloads. Always check the checksum (md5) to verify file integrity.
@Davey126
Amazon stock recovery doing it itself before applying (as i remember)

I f*cked up by rooting it and then played around with the file permissions and now it says when I try to boot;

Your Kindle doesn't seem to be able to boot. Resetting your device to Factory defaults may help you to fix this issue.
Volume up/down to move highlight;
power button to select.
Reboot your Kindle
Reset to Factory Defaults
I tried both and it still comes up. please help me
Sounds like you may need to reflash your device. I think, although not entirely sure, you can use onemeila's KFHD System.img Recovery Tool in the Android Development section of this forum. That means you'd have to buy a factory cable though.

what is reflashing? does it have something to do with a computer? because my computer doesn't recognize the device as it used to now that it's bricked.
also, i rooted it, does rooting affect my warranty and will amazon know about it? after all it is bricked so they cant check that right?
Thanks a lot!

Amazon would probably be able to tell that you messed with the device. Reflashing is basically just reinstalling system software to the device. Yes it has to be connected to your computer and you have to be in fastboot which requires a factory cable. Once in fastboot your computer will recognize the device as long as the drivers you installed to root are still in place. The details to buy or make a factory cable are in the link below. Personally I made mine, it's pretty easy if you are handy with things. That said if not done right it has the potential to seriously screw up your device as well as your computer. So buying one for $12 might be a better choice for some.
After you get the factory cable power the device off, connect it to the device and computer, and the device should automatically boot up in fastboot. If successful you will see a screen that has a logo saying "fastboot kindle fire". Then you are ready to use the system recovery tool in the android development section mentioned in the last post. I am in the process of updating it with the 7.2.1 system software. Also only use that tool if you have a KFHD. If you have a KF2 you will need a backup .img from a KF2.

I just noticed in another thread that you have the 32gb version with 7.2.0. I don't know how different the system is from 7.2.1 or whether they can swapped. The only difference between the two is storage capacity. Theoretically I would think it could work. Actually I just read on amazon that the 32gb now runs the same 7.2.1 v. If yours isnt you just didn't get the update yet. So the process above will work. I'll be uploading the recovery tool with .img from 7.2.1 sometime today.

When you initially tried to root it, you hopefully installed some drivers in order for your device to be recognized on your computer. Those are the drivers he's talking about, which are linked in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1893838.
oh them, right thanks
Hi, I have 2 bricked KFHD's 7" after trying to Root them, I have just received my SKORPN Factory Cable, followed the instructions as sent by the man himself and nothing, any ideas????? I was under the impression that the battery does not need to be charged and that connection would put the Kindles into Fastboot to allow me to flash the devices, I am at a loss as to what to do, i know my ADB drivers are installed correctly as it shows in Device Manager on my PC when I connect my wifes' KFHD.
Please Help - failing my efforts does anyone know of anyone who repairs these devices?

Other than "bricked", what state are the devices in? Better yet...What were the instructions that Skorpn gave you?
Both Kindles are totally unresponsive, have tried previous Factory cables but no use. I bought the SKORPN cable as it has such good reviews and the instructions are as follows, sent with the cable;
1) Turn OFF the Kindle Fire and wait 30 seconds or so, (mine don't even turn on so no problem there).
2) First, plug the USB Micro-B end into the Kindle Fire.
3) Then plug the standard Type-A end into the computer.
4) Profit...
Exactly as typed on the accompanying paperwork.

Totally unresponsive, how? Unresponsive as in...there is nothing on the display and nothing happens when you press the power button? Do you mean that kind of "totally unresponsive"?
Exactly that, nothing happens with the power button pressed, nothing on the screen
Your device is lost, unfortunately. What exactly did you do to it before this happened?
Just tried rooting them, all seemed to be going well until the reboot process and they never turned on again - never mind, off to the bin they go - cheers for your help

Yet another "Kindle fire utility" Victim!
I'll assume you used kindle fire utility since this is the only tool that tries to install a 2nd bootloader along with root (flashing the wrong bootloader is the only thing that causes a device to not even power up), What you need to do now is contact amazon and send it back to them they'll most likely give you a replacement!
Or you can send it to prokennexusa At
Xerocomm, Inc

He'll fix it for you and you can always thank him by giving him a small donation!
Hi, Newbie question.
I have a 2nd Gen Kindle Tate that I was looking into installing CM11 on. Up until recently I have managed ok with it being rooted and running apks and apps from Google Play.
Major issue at the moment where I seem to be stuck
Here's what I have done:
A few months ago I had updated the Firmware to 7.5.1.
I had rooted it using Saferoot (Busybox), which has worked fine.
I tried to install CM11 but after failed attempts I found out it couldnt with the current firmware so needed to downgrade to 7.2.3 (Using KFHD_SRT_v1.3.0 tool )
I had stupidly replaced the boot.img & recovery.img files without a backup (BIG BIG mistake i know!)
I wasnt able to boot into the OS anymore
I also tried to install TWRP & COTR using the KFU 0.9.9
Since it turned off I hadnt been able to turn it on since.
I have tried leaving on the charge for hours and still nothing (2A cable).
I have a fastboot cable.
Is there anything I can do or is it completely dead?
Read somewhere before that you can short the KF to make it boot (sort of like a PSP Pandora battery). if this is true any guidance on this.
perhaps a SkOrPn cable?...but cannot find one
before you get too drastic. check adb drivers, a hard boot then plug in to pc
does your pc see the device at all when you plug it in? if so maybe try the KFfirstaide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54274465&postcount=3416
or this one

Factory cables don't work with this device. There have been reports of exceptionally long power button holds (5+ min) yielding some life. Rarely does that produce a functioning device; just a different 'look'. Not much else can be done aside from replacing mother/daughter boards which can still present a challenge depending on the condition/state of the replacement parts which are typically harvested from other devices. Sorry for the bad news ...
Hello guys I think I have bricked my device. I had successfully installed CM 12.1 but couldn't install google play store. It was firmware 5.1.1. So I decided to install os original firmware v5.1.1 using Rootjunky videos. How to Firmware Restore or Unbrick your Amazon Fire 5th gen Tablet. I successfully loaded the firmware ( Install from the ADB complete )but in the end I screwed up. I didn't remove the cable before pressing reboot system now(in recovery mode). Now tablet won't boot up. Now connected to pc some software installs and I hear disconnecting/reconnecting tone, few seconds interval. In device manager ,other devices it shows MT65xx Preloader with yellow icon. Please help if there is any hope. Many Thanks.

I can't even boot it up. I tried pressing low volume + power button / all kinda combinations. When connect to pc it keeps disconnecting and reconnecting in 3-4 sec gap. There is no fire/device in device manager. Installed all softwares . Before bricked device everything worked fine. I can't reach to recovery option. All these solution works after that process.
At 7:35 on this video of Rootjunky - { How to Firmware Restore or Unbrick your Amazon Fire 5th gen Tablet} I was supposed to plug out the cable and press reboot button. I didn't remove the cable just pressed the button and from there device don't start. I don't see any logo ,the screen is just switched off. The only movement I see when I plug it to the pc. The reconnect/Disconnect tone from pc I think it's in Loop. I hope you guys understand now how exactly I bricked it. Previously I installed the CM 12.1 successfully and it was smooth and fast.
Before this solution, on other devices I had MT65XX PRELOADER option with yellow icon. It stays for a few sec then disappears and this process repeat itself.. After updated drivers ( disabling driver signature on windows 10) now there is no fire device in device manager but connect /disconnect tone is there.

Device is unrecoverable if it can not boot into stock recovery mode by pressing two outside buttons from a cold start.
Same issue here. Any work around
Unfortunately I seem to have made the same mistake... Isn't it possible to buy a "Factory Fastboot Cable" and get it back to life that way?
Same problem here... instead of wiping cache and rebooting I pressed "Shut down" and it wont turn on again... it doesn't even activate screen. Nothing at all. How can it be recovered? There must be a solution out there!
