Why am I randomly losing mobile data connection / failed text messages? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S6

Background:
-I've had my galaxy s6 since May 2015. I had no problems with mobile data at all until about 4-5 weeks ago when we upgraded to the At&T family unlimited data plan.
Problem:
-My data connection will come and go. I'll completely lose connection for lengths of time throughout the day ranging from 2 minutes to a 3-4 hours. I've been keeping a log of it this morning and it's been ranging between 5-20 minutes intervals of no connection/connection. Sometimes it will still show bars, other times it will have the circle with a slash through it icon. This happens everywhere, location doesn't seem to matter, at all times of day. It's not a slow connection. It's either fast or completely non-existent.
-I also lose the ability to send and receive texts when this happens. I'll get a "send failed" type message.
-Other people on my data plan, with different phones, will have a perfect connection standing right next to me while mine is down.
-When I lose connection, the phone also gets extremely hot while trying to regain a signal. So hot that it will literally burn me.
What I've done so far:
-Read many articles/forums throughout the internet trying to find a solution / troubleshooting.
-Contacted at&t's live chat and gone through extensive network troubleshooting with them (twice).
-Gotten the SIM card replaced.
-Factory reset / Data wipe.
-Left the phone at a local repair shop where they looked at it and changed some settings and told me it was fixed. (It wasn't)
Question:
-Is anyone knowledgeable enough about the hardware components of the S6 that could tell me if this sounds like a part may need to be replaced in the phone? Could the antenna or sim card reader have been damaged or gone bad? Any other ideas?
I've also read some things saying it could be a software problem, but wouldn't something like that be a big issue with the entire At&T galaxy s6 community?
Thank you.

troubleshoot - disconnecting from wireless internet

i'm randomly getting disconnected from the internet while chatting or surfing the net. the times i get dropped may vary but i'm normally unable to even stay on even longer than 15 minutes. when i try to reconnect i can sometimes get back on or get this error:
Cannot connect for an unknown reason. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings. If the problem continues, reset your mobile device according to your manufacturer’s documentation and try again.
i'm currently running on christian's (wm6.5) clean rom on 3.4 which i flashed on from 3.2 thinking that this may resolve the problem. i contacted my wireless provider about this issue and they basically blew me off saying that unlocked phones won't work with they network. they did try sending some information to my sim after powering my phone but no luck. i've never had this issue before up until 2-3 weeks ago and i've owned the phone for approximately 7 months. my phone has been flashed throughout the 7 months. i've tried fiddling with the network settings trying to fix this, i've deleted the settings and used my connection setup wizard thing to reestablish it, but it continues to happen. i have used my sim on an older phone and i don't get disconnected.
essentially, i have no warranty so i can't go anywhere to fix this issue. i can receive/send text messages and calls no problem and i am getting full reception and this occurs anywhere i'm located. i'm running att in the us.
if anyone has any suggestions as i'm really starting to pull my hair over this issue and don't want to search for a new phone already especially since i've paid so much for it.
bump. if anyone can please help.

Someimes My Nexus One won't send text messages or make phone calls unless I reboot :(

I have an unrooted ATT version of the nexus one. Randomly about 1 or 2 times a day while I am texting I will get a failed to send message and no matter how many times I try it just keeps failing. It won't allow me to send texts to anyone else either. however I continue to receive texts which is kinda odd.... the worst part is that always while this is happening I cannot make or receive phone calls this is very frustrating since I could be missing phone calls and wouldn't know it until I try and send an SMS or make a call. I have tried a lot of different things such as setting my bands to USA and setting my network preference to WCDMA Only but to no avail... I also tried a factory reset... also if I try and toggle airplane mode or turn off the radio it just crashes and I need to reboot.. if i try checking the SMSC while this is occurring but hitting the refresh button
I get refresh error and if I try and update it with the correct number I get update error... I really love my N1 and would really appreciate anyone who could shed some light on this issue
Re: My Nexus One won't send text messages or make phone calls unless I reboot
Could this be an AT&T network issue? I had similar symptoms with my HTC Hero (admittedly running EDGE) in certain parts of San Francisco earlier this year. It seemed to be the result of network congestion. Does this occur in a city or other urban area?

I am actually not on AT&T I am on Rogers network in Canada. I am living in Toronto so the 3G coverage is really good and I`ve never had this kind of issue with my previous phone which was a BB9000 and none of my friends seem to have any of these problems
I also found ppl on some other nexus one forums describing the exact same problem which leads me to believe its not a network issue but I am still not 100% sure I tried calling Rogers and had them do a cancel location and it didn`t fix the issue either
I had this issue only this morning and I'm in the UK, I put the phone into Airplane mode and back again and then everything is fine.
I have this issue about once a day.
Running the newest Cyanogen with no other modifications. Radio is the most updated one available.
Flipping to Airplane mode and backed worked on my G1 if I had an issue similar to this but the Nexus doesn't respond to it.
I reboot atleast once a day to fix this. -- Not sure if it's the radio or Cyanogen.
Anyone else have some input?
EDIT: Should have included, I am on T-Mobile
This actually happened with me today, a text kept failed and didn't get pushed through until I reset the phone. I'm hoping this doesn't turn into a daily thing
next time this happens if it happens again could u guys try and make a phone call before resetting so we can see if our problems are identical?
Thanks
This sounds like a problem I have had for several months now on T-Mobile (I just bumped the thread under the "General" topic to see if there were any developments, as I've been away from the board for six weeks or so). The symptoms I have are that the signal strength icon in the status bar shows zero bars with an "x" and the home screen says "No service." When I attempt to power off, after a while the spinning arrow stops spinning, the trackball flashes once, and then the phone reboots (takes about 45 seconds to a minute after I initiate the power-down before the reboot starts).

I am unable to make phone calls, send texts, etc. until I reset. It has no impact on Wifi but kills the cell network completely.

I also have a long delay after hitting restart when I get this issue. Maybe Ill try to get a logcat and see what it gets stuck on..
I'm getting RMA'ed, again, for the same issue plus not being able to register on the network after I get the x with four blank bars. I get either "error searching for networks" or "sim is invalid on this network". It's since fixed itself... somehow but i was without any phone service despite trying everything (calling tmobile for network outages, hard reset, reseating the sim card, other stuff) for about 3-4 hours twice now... and a few shorter time periods (1-3 minutes of those errors) before that.
Possible solutions.. which I've only done after it started working again but didn't cause anything bad to happen. So far have been without any of the previous issues, plus my original long standing issue of not being able to send texts, get any sort of data, or call (I call it the up arrow without a down arrow problem where the phone is trying to connect but doesn't receive anything back). These solutions were originally posted here:

They're also solutions I've come up with for my issue as well and seemed to have worked for a couple of others.
It's as follows:
*#*#4636#*#* and selecting phone information. Press the menu button and select the proper band. I'm guessing if you're in canada on rogers which uses the same band as AT&T US you'd select USA band. Anyway after selecting it should re register on the network.. close out of there. Turn off and turn on the phone and see how that goes. For people in other regions I have no idea what to properly select but it was posted on one of the threads on the google forums that it should be "automatic". Check with your provider and/or google tech support.
Another thing I've seen is again in the *#*#4636#*#* menu under phone information put in (THIS NUMBER IS ONLY VALID FOR TMOBILE USA) under SMSC 12063130004 and press update. Call your provider for your number. Restart the phone.
Less likely solutions (in order of descending likeliness to help you in your particular case):
Hard reset and/or verify the APN settings for your carrier. I've been told non factory default APN values for tmobile over the phone (google support) so I don't know if verifying them or asking for them will help or cause more issues but sometimes there's apps the mess with the APN values which could cause some of your issues. So while this has a high potential to help, it's easy to screw up. Hard resetting the phone will give you factory default values (I'm 99% certain but from what I remember). Changing them from non factory default isn't a terrible thing however call your provider rather than google tech support for the values.
Calling up and asking to add/verify the IMEI number to the network (i never did this until recently although it didn't fix my issue right when they added it anyway) and/or doing a network cancellation might help. Unlikely but if you' RMA'ed once they'll have the wrong one on file and could cause issues depending on the network.
Replacing the SIM card. Takes literally 30 seconds. They ask for account info at the store, they scan the new one.. and give it to you. You pop it in and go. If you have an older SIM card this DEFINITELY could be the issue. Its unlikely its defective but it's always worth ruling that out.
Let me know if any of these help.

I`ve tried all the solutions u`ve mentioned except for swapping to a new SIM card... I guess it might just be my next step but I have my doubts
I get this kind of issue occasionally, under these specific conditions only:
1. I'm at work.
2. I bring my phone with me into an area with no signal (screen says no signal, and I have 4 blank bars with an X) for more than a couple of minutes (for me, it's the room with the coffee machine - which I use a lot - no provider gets signal there on any phone).
3. It doesn't always happen, just sometimes, but when I go back to my desk, it won't reconnect.
4. Going into and out of airplane mode fixes it every time. However, with the latest CM and Ivan's Diet kernels, going into and out of airplane mode causes an immediate reboot when I try to come out of it, and only when I'm NOT connected by USB and when I AM coming from "dead" service, making logging the problem, well, problematic. Using other kernels (even OC'd kernels) does not seem to cause this airplane mode problem.
Only had this happen once trying to send a plain old SMS. I restarted the phone and no problem. I didn't think of trying to make cell calls, but if it happens again, I'll try that.
I too have had this issue with SMS. My browser works though when the SMS problem occurs. Haven't tried a phone call. I am on T-Mobile USA.
Are any of you using task-killers that may somehow be interrupting an important background service?
I have the same exact thing happen and I am on T-mobile US. I was hoping that I wasn't the only one but it seems to happen on all of my phones so I have just chalked it up to network congestion. Unless someone has an actual answer.
I have this issue about once a day.
Running the newest Cyanogen with no other modifications. Radio is the most updated one available.
Flipping to Airplane mode and backed worked on my G1 if I had an issue similar to this but the Nexus doesn't respond to it.

This helps with the switch from Edge -> 3G -> H.
I wonder if it would fix this issue.
I don't have the issue so I am unable to test myself.

I am using Advanced Task Killer Free, but I'm pretty sure I added important background services to the ignore list so they shouldn't be killed.
Just to double check, what background tasks shouldn't be killed?

HTC one with Three uk - Data connection issue

Hi Guys,
Been searching the forum about this but cant find anything so i have registered myself to open this thread.
So, i have recently bought the HTC one from Three (Moved from o2) on the unlimited one plan. The only problem is that I cant get the internet to work, the phone says i have 4 full bars of signal with 'H' connection but the pages will not load at all. When it does work, it will work for 10 mins and then would just stop working again till it decides to stop being moody again.
I have tried switching off the phone, re inserting the sim card but the problem was still there. Therefore, I have called up Three customer services and they said that ' THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND THERE IS NOT A FIX' he also agreed that I can cancel my contract (employees in the store have different opinions all together). I now have a phone which cant get online (95% of the time) and a data plan that i cannot use!
So can someone who has this phone with three network UK please tell me whether you are facing this problem? If no one is facing this problem then i am happy to put it down to the handset and get it replaced if not i will leave altogether.
Please note, web browsing on wifi is fine and when i have this issue wifi is switched off.
Thanks,
Mareen
It's do to Three being too heavy congested... I get this sometimes on my LG fone. I have 2 different APN's that I use for Three & they both do this. Try, going into Airplane mode & then back on to reset the data connection. Sadly, this will happen due to more people using Three & they can't support the amount of bandwidth.
This is what happens with Unlimited data plans. The more people use unlimited data, the more likely you will have problems connecting at peak times... thus, meaning whats the point in Unlimited?!.
IMHO, network providers should be making sure they have reliable data connections rather than aiming for 100+mps data speeds!.

Thanks for your reply but this is not just peak time issue. I face this problem all the time and the customer services person also said it's a known issue and possibly there won't be any fix. He also stated the phone gets stuck in this mode due to all the apps installed by three but if that is the case then surely more people would have flagged this up.
I just don't know what to do. This one plan is so good and everyone at work are mostly on it but how can they connect and I cant from the same location same time if it is what you are insisting about congested network?

Wow a lot of hate for 3. I am using the one on the 3 network and do not have any problems whatsoever. I get consistent good speeds between 3 - 10 mbit/s without any of the issues described.
I am in London which is very congested. I am using an unlocked htc one and not a phone provided by 3 so it is possible that it is something to do with 3s Rom. But i think it is much more likely just a bad device and you should get it replaced.
It is definitely not a "known issue" with the phone or we would have heard a lot more about it on these forums.

Exactly! Hence this thread. Im also based in london and this issue happened in any locations i been too! Im torn between staying with them or getting it replaced.
If getting it replaced i will lose the 7 day cancellation period.

& tbf, mine doesn't just happen on peak times either. When I worked for O2 in Pay Monthly, I used to advise customers thats why they have a fair usage in place to prevent data connection issues. Unlimited Data on O2 used to be around 2GB/3GB & anyone who used to go over a lot used to get a text to let them know of cut off there data connection for that month. I left O2 a year ago after working for them for 2 years in Customer Services in Pay Monthly, so know a fair bit about signal & data & why there's generally a fair usage in place.
Three are VERY good at marketing themselves as All You Can Eat but as more people jump onto Three's network, the more you will have data issues. What Three have said is complete crap as my fone is sim free with no bloatware & its all due to there network & NOTHING to do with what fone you have.
I am on Three's Pay As You Go £15 300, 3000 Texts & All You Can Eat Data which Includes Tethering. Soon, Three will have to either cut back All You Can Eat or build more on there infestrure...
i would suggest its a problem with the '3' device. I am on a sim only plan with '3' and using a sim free device i purchased from phones4u, the phone works fine with only the occasional slow connection which i personally put down to congestion. I am in Wiltshire and generally get around 3 to 15mb download depending on time of day and amount of traffic on the network.
Never had a problem with my one on 3! Although in Milton Keynes today it went to Roaming!!!!!!!! Still worked (roaming was turned off) off to London next week so will see what happens with mine. Still mega impressed with the phone...
No issue with my 3 device in Essex and London, although do have issue 40 floors up but I expect that!
I'm on a SIM free device with Three. Never had a data problem yet and have excellent speeds.

Have you tried
1. Check the APN settings (try to delete and add again manually)
2. Set mobile network to 3G only (as opposed to the 2G/3G/LTE option)
Here I get barely 200Kbit/sec down and a megabit up, HSPA+ 21.6Mbit
In the next town I get 15+Mbit down and over 2 megabit up, again HSPA+ 21.6Mbit
Massive difference, and consistent with both places too. Three acknowledge the congestion issues and claim engineers are looking into it, but its been months.
Same speed on T-Mobile here so it's probably a MBNL site...no idea who to complain to tbh!
I get 10-20 mb dl speeds on Birmingham, never had any issues, don't really get the three hate. Been with them for 5 years.

Oh wow!
I'm getting the exact same problem but couldnt find anyone mentioning it so thought I must be doing something wrong!
I'm on EE (Orange) and I get cut outs quite regularly even though it shows full signal. Usually turning it on and off again or switching to airplane mode resolves it but it really is starting to pi$$ me off! :crying:

with ee its a totally different problem, there is a thread on it somewhere, its basically when you switch between 3g and 4g its cuts off,
have a look for the thread
I'm on Orange (although the phone usually shows EE) and I'm seeing this too.
If I leave my house, quite often as soon as the WiFi disconnects, I don't get a data connection. Again, I have the little "H" or "3G" displayed but I need to hit airplane mode on/off to wake it up.
Starting to wonder if it's a handset issue... I'll see if I can run some logcat next time I'm moving around. Doesn't do it all the time, if I leave work, then the wifi > H transition seems fine.
Thanks for the info guys. I used to be with three when they actually entered UK and their service was really good back then in my area. So i think this problem lies with the handset i think. Im going to pop into store and see what they say. Im just worried that if i do get a replacement it will have gap and power button problem reported by other users.
no issues at all, oldham
OK, decided to stay with three but they have promised me to replace the handset. So nice of them. I can only do this Monday as I dont have all of the paperwork with me.
I will keep you guys updated with how my new phone gets on.

[Q] HTC One Signal (Data, Talk AND Text) Issues

Hi gents,
So i've been rocking my HTC one a few months now. I adore the phone but i've had some issues with it since I bought it. Occasionally, the phone will drop all signal and then a few seconds later get it back. Annoying when trying to use data or google maps but for the most part harmless. However as time went on this got more frequent, and the signal loss began to last longer even in areas where I knew I had solid signal.
Now, it's terrible. My phone shows having 3g/4g signals and can access data, although it does still have the intermittent drop issues. However, for the past 2 days my phone has been unable to make or receive calls/texts, even when the phone shows it has signal. Sprint says nothing on their end is wrong and has "Refreshed" something or other and told me to reboot my phone. Problem persists and they say there's nothing they can do to fix it.
So I come to you guys. Any advice for my phone woes?
Thanks,
K.
Can they not replace it in warranty?

Have you tried updating the PRL? This is what Verizon and Sprint used to tell customers who were having problems getting service in well-covered areas.
Another thing to check is the APN. Some carriers (for example AT&T which is who I use) have several different APN's listed, maybe your device somehow switched to an APN that doesn't serve your area?

WiFi Calling error and International Roaming issues

Hello everyone.
I'm on a T-Mobile ONE plan and I've been abroad for almost 6 months now and for the past 5 months everything was working smoothly until this past month I've been getting some very annoying issues.
1) WiFi Calling no longer works and only works very rarely once every couple days for only a few hours. I keep getting the error message: ER081 - Unable to connect. This happens no matter which router i'm connected to.
I called T-Mobile about it and they said this was a known issue by Samsung. Samsung gave them a list of things to go by to try and troubleshoot the issue with a master reset being the last resort (which I cannot do). There are no timelines for if an update will be released that will fix this issue.
2) International Roaming no longer works 100% of the time. I keep getting a "No Service" notification with the message "Selected network (Vodafone) not available". (even though it shows 5 full bars). I have to constantly shutdown or pull out the battery and remove the SIM card, put it all back and turn the phone on for the network to come back again. However, this fix is very temporary as the error message comes back either after a few hours or after a few minutes (some times just 1 min!).
During the same T-Mobile call, we ran through a bunch of troubleshooting stuff but nothing was fixed and everything seems fine on their end. My SIM card was in good condition, networks are available, etc.
Are there any known solutions to fixing these issues or do I have to through in the towel and purchase a new phone?
Thank you,
