Clean up Stock Rom - BLU R1 HD Questions & Answers

I looked around but did not see anything. Im sure some one has done it all ready. If not I wanted to ask. I'm not on the latest rom. I did Not want to update I was not sure if it would brake anything. I all ready removed the ads on the lock screen and removed the bloat ware.
Has any one taken the latest rom, took all the crap ware and made it flash able? That would be great for recovery if nothing else.

You can download a clean firmware without ads from @Tomsgt 's site here, you flash it following this guide, I did it and it worked like a charm :highfive:

The challenge is that the updates provided by BLU are highly incremental. So once you go to somebody else's ROMs, you can never go back.
An option is to first backup your /system and /boot via SPFT or TWRP, and then overwrite /system with another cleaned up ROM. If necessary, you will have an option to go back to full stock using your backups, and re-apply the official patches (still need to take LK and TEE out, otherwise those updates may at some point screw up the bootloader unlock !).

Rooted and installed Cyanogenmod. How do I get back to stock if I ever need to?

I'm not too worried about undoing the rooting (unless there's an easy way) but how to I get back to Android 2.1 like I had when I first got the phone? Can I just install the stock ROM and where do I find it?
Thanks

Why would you want an unlocked bootloader with the OTA stock ROM? There is no way to relock the bootloader and regain your warranty.
CM is Android 2.1, just a better, faster version.
If you are concerned about OTA updates, the features are generally included in Cyanogen's ROM immediately upon release, but usually far before any OTA release.
No big reason why I want to right now but I like knowing there's a way to get back to stock in case something goes horribly wrong and I mess something up (and for the same reasons some of us reformat our computers often). I don't even notice a huge difference (speed and battery) running CM. I haven't installed many apps or themes though.

That's different than the stock rom, right? Is it possible to be unlocked and run the default rom that comes with the phone? Or is that combination not a possibility?
Sure you can do that, but I guess I just don't understand why...
You can always go back to stock everything except your bootloader will remain unlocked (unless someone finds a workaround or hack)
Anything you can screw up (except a bad radio flash) can be fixed by having an up to date Nandroid backup...
Just do what I do and make sure to Nandroid every other day or so. (Or before every time you change anything in the system/framework/boot/kernel etc.)

i think you can get the stock rom from here if you didnt do a nandroid backup
If i were going to sell the nexus one some time in the future, it would be good to know where the stock rom can be found. Some people don't want to be flashing ROMs all the time, and would prefer OTA updates. Once the phone is over a year old, the unlocked bootloader will be meaningless.
Simple, in the android development section at the top of the list as a sticky, [ROM] 22/Mar ERD79 -> EPE76 - Stock Nexus One images / zip / online kitchen / rooted, or heres the link, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=619801, it gives you the stock rom. happy flashing

Want to root, but stay as stock as possible.

Seems all the images here have loads of tweaks done to them, silly boot animations etc, and it almost always means some of these tweaks will be broken in lots of ways, or include just as much crap as the stuff HTC include.
Just come from Hero, where there is a stock image that ONLY have the root and SU app included, no other stuff. Is there such a beast for Legend?
Otherwise, I'll just stay on 2.03.405.3 and wait for Froyo.
Have you tried Almost Stock Legend?
hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=698421
Works smooth, only thing added is busybox and superuser program. But I had to jump from it since the VPN connectivity was broken. Apart from that, no problems.
YOu have a rooting guide on the page below. When you root legend you have to flash it, ande on this page you will see how you do it from the beginign and the rom you will use it for flashing it, you'll get there, and it is completly stock, only superuser app is added.
Thanks, that looks like precisely what I want!!!
Off to downgrade, install recovery and then flash this puppy. What's the deal with radio firmware on Legend?
Will the RUU downgrade also downgrade the radio? (I assume it will), will this update.zip update it? (I am assuming not), how do I get the latest GSM radio?
Thanks.
EDIT: Just found out there is a radio.img in there, so I assume it will update it...
It is easy to create your own rooted rom based on stock rom, check link below: hxxp://theunlockr.com/2010/03/26/how-to-create-your-own-custom-rom-for-android-part-1-setting-up-the-kitchen/
Thanks, all rooted and upto date.
The only small annoyance with than rom, is it uses the rubbish SU app, the one that does not work correctly if USB debugging is enabled, rather than the good "ninja" one.
Is it just a case of using adb to remove it and replace it with the good one?
Hmm, tried installing AdFree from the marketplace, something that's never caused me any problems on my Hero, and it caused the Legend to reboot...
Anyone else seen this? These sorta problems are why I am cautious of taking ROMS that have had too much customization...

add some features without flashing custom rom?

Love my N7, running stock rom (rooted and unlocked).
Is there any way to bring in some features (like the circle battery, or the recovery/reboot options in shutdown menu) from other roms without having to flash the whole rom?
My phone is old and abandoned by it's manufacturer and carrier, so I don't mind flashing it, but the N7 is still supported so I would like to stay official. These are some very useful features I would love to incorporate if they are available as apk or flash able zip addons.
Thanks!

this post has an add in for reboot options for the stock rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771307
but keep in mind, adding extra feature will probably bork an OTA.
ROM toolbox by jrummy will help with some of what you want. The shutdown menu wont be possible via the route you want though I'm pretty sure

This. If you're modifying the stock ROM you might as well go with a custom ROM as far as OTA's go.

It's also worth noting that - via the use of nandroid backups - that it's never an "all or nothing" deal.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with keeping a pure stock ROM "waiting in the wings" in the form of a complete Nandroid backup. When an OTA rolls out, you:
- back up your current ROM
- restore the older pure stock ROM from backup
- take the OTA (guaranteed to work!)
- take a Nandroid backup of the new version of Stock
- (restore custom recovery if needed)
- restore your custom ROM (from the Nandroid backup in first step), and then decide what you want to do about the OTA on this customized variant of stock.
That gives you the flexibility to revert to the current version of stock anytime you like - or use it as the base ROM for your favorite customizations.

Why are you quoting me?
Sounds like a lot of work to sit and wait for an ota, which don't come at specific time. Usually a nice person will compile a stock ROM, long before some users will get an ota notification.
I don't need the information why not quote the op, brah

Because I can. There; I just did it again
Actually, the reason I quoted you was because I was responding to your point about customizing stock ROMs possibly jeopardizing application of OTAs. Quite true; but not a show-stopper for anyone willing to prepare in advance. And given that the device in question is a Nexus device, it is a virtual certainty that there will be more OTAs coming down the pike.

You don't need to "wait"; you only do this at the time a new OTA comes out. Prior stock backups are just sitting there doing nothing until that time arrives. BTW, The current 4.2.2 "dev-stock" ROMs on this site can not accept OTAs because they have been zipaligned - none of the system .apks have hash checksums which match the factory files (even though they are functionally identical).
In addition to the previously mentioned advantages, someone that does this also has pure stock backups available to retrieve files from in the event they want to hand-patch their customized ROMs so they can get a failing OTA to "take". *That* is in fact a back-asswards way of doing things, but every time an OTA comes out, you observe a flood of stupid "please somebody give me file such and such" in this forum. That behavior comes from a lack of forethought and preparation (additionally made worse because Google pulls the *prior* factory install images well before the OTA has rolled out fully).
cheers ... and feel free to quote me
AW: add some features without flashing custom rom?
You can use "Pimp My ROM". You can find it here on xda. Works with stock too.
If you are running stock ROM, you can try these that I have been working on for the past week. I have a reboot menu among others.

[Q] What a hell did I just buy ?

Oh boy I really hope I am just too tired to look and info I've got so far is incorrect. My i337 Got stolen today and I managed to get Galaxy S 4 Active from ATT i537. I looked up only 1 thing before I did because only system I can use is CM11, I mean stock Samsung makes me uneasy if I am on it for more then 15 seconds. Sounds, UI, just feel and look, totally garbage. So now I see that bootloader is locked AND there is no solution to unlock it. Only then we can install some kind of Dual boot thing ? I really hope this is not true. Can I just get rid of everything Samsung and stock and get CM11 ? I don't want to waste space with stock as "not used" system.
Please let me know because like I said I had really bad day with two thugs stealing my phone, spend money on new one and now this. I just rooted it and was thinking like always I get Rom Manager and from there I install recovery ..... but phone is not listed .... I am freaking out a bit right about now. Please let me know if possible on where to start getting custom recovery cause ODIN + tar recovery files gave me magic error or something like that just now.
Thank you guys !
UPDATE: Couldn't sleep.
So I have my new phone rooted with "towel", I install Safestrap and backed up my current ROM (I am on NE3) I see now reason why this dual system needed and stuff. I mean too bad Samsung locking bootloaders and oh well. I have only 2 questions. 1 can I just install latest build from https://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=jactivelte in to rom SLOT-1 and use it or no. And how much space I can allow for my current ROM and CM I mean I am not planning to have anything on stock so I don't need space at same time I cant make it that when I do want to go on stock I'd have a problem with running it because of not enough space.
Thank you guys once again. I mean If you know few lines ..that's all I am asking. Cause I do see some pros and cons but .. I need straight up answer. Thanks !

You cannot install CM. Since you have a locked bootloader, it is not possible to install any custom kernels, so ROMs that require a custom kernel (CM, AOSP, or any ROM based off those) will not work. Using SafeStrap you can flash TouchWiz-based ROMs since they can use you stock kernel.
Look in the AT&T S4 forums for ROMs that say they are compatible with SafeStrap, you should be able to use most of those. Since they are meant fir a different phone you'll have to flash the MasterPatch afterwards. A lot of people seen to like the Hyperdrive ROM.

Got it. Thanks. I remember back in a day I've been using "theme" that allowed me to have Google stock feel u guess I need to look in this but for now I guess I'll just remove what I can and will suffer until Nexus 6 is in stock and I can afford it. Love that phone. Also I see 5.0 will be out for active next year so it's not that bad. Meanwhile should I do Ota update to latest stock firmware ?

OTA Beta Updates

Hi,
One of my friends told me not to do OTAs beta updates because it could bootloop my phone.
Last update I flashed the zip and all worked perfectly fine, but I had to re-root my phone and re-uninstall annoying stock apps with titanium backup.
Now I have a question :
Is it really risked to do the update with an OTA download ?
I really don't want to re-root my phone and do all the other stuff that comes with it.
I guess there is a way to do a safe update which keeps my data with the OTA but I need a confirmation about that.
Thanks !
(Original post [here] but probably faster answers on this forum, I guess ?)
I think it is ok with official updates. I have not any issue. Just i have not rooted or etc. All stock

Thanks, but I would like to have the advice of somebody with approximatively the same setup as mine, I mean at least with a rooted op3t
If you have all stock, then I can't tell if doing the OTA update will re-stock my phone too
I always have stock phones, because early time when i tried root, unlock btl, install twrp, change rom... sometimes there were wrong things, examle booting only logo and phone make a stone looks like, also custom roms has some bugs and on stock i am sure that everything works good. I do not understan why people starting root, change roms or etc. Use stock always and everything will be ok

To answer OP, yes you can struck in bootloop.
Remember it's beta version and not stable release.
