Aroma FlashFire ATT S5 finally! - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5

Hi all,
Aroma is now working on our ATT S5 and S5 Active. through FlashFire emulation in their latest beta. Tested it, it works. Still stuck on lollipoop 5.0. but we can flash other Roms through aroma now.
Steps:
1. Start on muniz nce downgrade (4.4)
2. Towelroot
3. Install SuperSU
4. Install latest FlashFire.
5. Install muniz OF3 (I used deodexed prerooted) with flashfire. No need to wipe either, it's built into the install. Btw, change screen timeout to 10 min. Don't forget to install OA1 bootloader through download (using Odin) mode after rom installs. You can select reboot to download mode in flashfire.
Here's the link to the instructions for the S5 http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...w-to-update-to-g900aof2-5-0-keeproot-t3149146
And the active: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...w-to-update-to-g870aof2-5-0-keeproot-t3161733
6. Select your g900f Android 5.0 custom (TouchWiz only) rom. I am currently on Alliance v10, installed through FlashFire (change screen timeout to 10 min.) aroma emulator. I did a wipe of cache, system and dalvik in flashfire and selected "factory wipe" in aroma. Do not select any kernels in aroma. Takes 10+ min. To boot, just wait. I installed SuperSU 3.76 after boot and I'm still rooted.
Any questions, just ask. I have tried some 5.1 and 6.0.1 and they are a no go (probably a kernel issue).
I have attached a screenshot, yes, it says g900f, it should, look at the baseband, it's ATT of3.
I don't take any credit for any of this. I just tried installing a few different Roms with this method. Give credit where credit is due: chainfire-supersu, muniz-many times thank you for your unblock and upgrades to 5.0 whilst keeping root, Alliance rom-thank you for your awesome rom, and yes it works great on g900a! I haven't tested it on the active, so if you try it, let us know.

Question
Hi dude, thanks for share this information, but, where can I get the OA3 kernel? - Are you sure about the kernel version?

Interesting anybody else try this?

Yes. I'm sure it works. Take a look at the screenshot. I'm on it right now, used aroma to install.
I did make a mistake in the original post. You need to be on the oa1 bootloader, a link is included in muniz upgrade to of3 post (sorry about that). http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...w-to-update-to-g900aof2-5-0-keeproot-t3149146

Should work for the active too. You have to use muniz rom, the latest one that still has root.

Here is the rom you need to be on for the active. http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...w-to-update-to-g870aof2-5-0-keeproot-t3161733
You need root, flashfire and BusyBox. Aroma is a little slow, however, and doesn't register check boxes right away, but it does work.

When time permits, I'll give it a shot. Kind of funny I'm going to uninstall my old (disabled ROM slot) Safestrap v. 3.73 for a newer Safestrap with the same version number.
Would my older TWRP Safestrap backups work in different slots to switch from NH3 to NE3 and then back again? Just curious if the locked bootloader would allow that, not that I have any inclination to revert from NH3 to NE3, because NH3 works better for me.
@muniz_ri, you've helped me out quite a bit in the past. Thank you for this SafeStrap slot development. You really should include a "Donate" link in your profile. :good:
Also, is it still advisable to flash the Safestrap i537_kitkat_masterpatch-v.2.zip?

Is the i537_kitkat_masterpatch-v.2.zip needed? It is referred to in the first post of the OP here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2791564
with a download link here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=15875
Asking if this ...masterpatch-v2 is needed or not because of the following problems.
1. Safestrap slots were working although shutdown was problematic with 'long push'.
2. Within Safestrap, it failed to install i537_Update.zip with Slot-1 active. This .zip, thanks to @Devo7v, can be found in the first post of the OP here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2629093, under the heading I537UCUCNH3 (4.4.2) Released 2014-09-25 - OFFICIAL
Unofficial Flashable Zip 127MB (can only be flashed through SafeStrap) FYI, this zip matched its MD5 signature.
I also had over 6Gb of internal storage available.
Has anyone successfully installed i537_Update.zip with this 'fixed' version of SafeStrap into an extra ROM slot?
In the meantime I am back to rooted NH3 along with "disabled single Stock slot" version of Safestrap.

I think you're a little bit confused about what the i537_Update.zip is for. That zip file updates your stock NE3 firmware to NH3. It will update system files, the modems, and parts of the kernel. It should not be used on any custom ROMs or ROM slots. It should only be used to update your stock ROM. The reason it was posted is because if you are currently rooted on NE3 firmware, you cannot install the official OTA update without completely wiping your phone and returning to stock NE3. The i537_Update.zip bypasses the signature checks in the OTA and allows you to update your phone from NE3 to NH3 whether you're rooted or not.
I haven't used the newest version of SafeStrap but I'm almost certain you would need to flash the masterpatch-v2 after flashing a custom ROM to a new ROM slot. The masterpatch allows the custom ROM to access certain functions of your stock kernel; without it you're probably going to have issues with your wifi and camera on your new ROM. Hopefully I was able to clear things up and not confuse you even more.
Works with custom rom
I got Hyperdrive v19 working with rom slot. I flashed the masterpatchv2 and everything seems to be working. Starting this process I had rooted stock NE3 and removed the old safestrap as instructed. Installed the new safestrap, created rom slot, and flashed rom and patch. Install was simple with no problems.
If anyone has questions I can give more details or help troubleshoot.
I've tried installing SS 'til the cows came home and not having any luck. Even ran the SELinux mode changer (set to permissive) and tried the install again. I'm rooted on 4.4.2/NH3. I've scanned the threads but haven't seen any answers pop out for me. The popups in the SS app say it was installed successfully, but the State continually says "Not installed".

Do you have xposed framework installed? Did you make sure to temporarily uninstall it before installing safestrap? I hit my head against a wall for a few days before I realized that one, myself.

Nope, don't have xposed installed. Can't figure this one out!
Thinking about just pulling the apk apart and shoving the bits in where they "belong" (effectively reversing the manual SS uninstall steps).
But it's way too late at night for me to think about that right now.

Ahh, my bad. I had just assumed (and you know what they say about that) that since it was the same version and from androidfilehost, that it was the first one I had grabbed.
This one installed successfully and it just finished creating rom-slot-1 for me!
Doing a backup of the base rom... then on to installing hyperdrive into rom-slot-1 and applying masterpatchv.2. Am I missing any steps there or is it really that simple now?
Update: Installed HD 18.1, insalled master patch.2, enabled USB debugging so I could enter APN settings. Still had the camera FC, speakerphone wouldn't work and wi-fi would not turn on.
Going back to stock and restoring my backup for now... will have to try this again later.

A little more specific? Don't see either of those files sitting around on my phone (which is back to running stock).
I packaged up my own zip last night adding in all of the /etc/wifi files and also updated the dhd.ko and scsi_wait_scan.ko files in there (the ones in the masterpatch zip were outdated when compared with my stock versions). But it was all to no avail.

[How-To] Update to G900A_OC4 - 5.0 and KeepRoot (4/8/2015)

**You can begin the following process from any Build/ROM but you must already have Root Access**
**Required** FlashFire - Play BETA - PREVIEW
1. Join the G+ community using the same Google account as you're using for Play on your phone/tablet Here.
2. Sign up to receive the BETA versions from Play Here.
- Use the link provided after sign-up to download the app.
**Notice** - I light of the new OF2 update these ROM's are no longer safe. Stand by for a new KeepRoot thread!
Downloads:
- G900A_OC4_Stock_Rooted_ROM_wOA1_BL
- G900A_OC4_Stock_DeOdexed_ROM_wOA1_BL
Set your screen timeout setting to 10 mins before beginning!
1. Place the ROM onto your device (use either internal or ext-sdcard).
2. Open the FlashFire app and "Agree" to the Terms and Conditions.
3. Press "(+)" twice to bring up the "Actions" menu.
4. Press "Flash Zip or OTA" and locate and select the ROM. Leave "Auto-mount" unchecked under the "Options" menu and press the checkmark to continue.
5. From the main menu Uncheck all options under "EverRoot" and use default "Reboot" setting.
6. Last, press the lightning bolt then "Ok" to begin the flash .
The screen will turn black then display the contents of your system before beginning the flash. FlashFire will pause for about 1 minute while flashing the "system" partition. Once complete your device will reboot and pause on the AT&T splash screen for about 1 - 2 minutes ( 10 - 15 mins for DeOdexed version) before completely rebooting. Done!
Tip: for blazing fast speed turn off animations from Developer Options and reboot!
Known Issues:
- None!
Optional - Enable Native Tethering:
- G900A_OC4_TetherAddOn (Flash using FlashFire's "Flash zip or ota" option).
Notes:
1. The above process will not affect your Knox Warranty Flag.
2. The process will update your Modem, Non-hlos, System, Kernel, and Stock Recovery to OC4. Your Bootloader will only be updated OA1 allowing for downgrading your firmware at anytime.
3. As of 5/7/2015 no need to wipe prior to flashing! The ROM will automatically perform a factory data reset.
4. The TetherAddOn has been moved Here.
5. If you do not already have root access or to unbrick you must flash the G900A_Downgrade_to_NCE.tar(Caution! Do not use if you have taken the OC4 ota update) and root with TowelRoot, before continuing with the above process.
6. To learn more about FlashFire's capabilities on locked bootloader devices see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60070810&postcount=2
For whenever you get a chance to think about it, will there ever be a Safestrap for 5? need to look into Nandroid backups then? i loved SS. thanks again for all your hard work. AND FAST TOO.
I suggest that since safestrap no longer works, to do the data backup in KIES before this method and restore after doing this method.

3. From the main menu press "Restore," then select and restore the G900A_OC4_Stock_Rooted_Backup.
4. Once complete from the main menu press "Reboot," then reboot into "Download" mode.
5. Last, flash the G900A_OC4_Stock_Partitions_wOA1_BL using Odin's PDA slot (AP in Odin v3.09+) and reboot. Done!
After completing the above process your device will pause on the AT&T splash screen for 5 - 10 minutes before completely rebooting.

Good idea.... I did not do this lol, but I have some titanium backups on my sd card.
I was on the pre-rooted 4.4.4 that muniz_ri put together a couple of months ago. Worked well and quickly without any problems.
I actually don't mind starting fresh.... anything else I'll use titanium ... I miss safestrap though (security blanket wise lol).

then install busybox then safestrap (not to worry, works great, been around quite a while), create/install recovery in SS, make a current backup and then follow the great instructions in post #1
but if you dont like L, then its back to the beginning with NCE, root, SS, go back to OA1 and then restore your OA1 bu from SS
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...to-root-g900aucu2aoa1-4-4-4-2-3-2015-t3021120
at least this is my understanding and i have gone from 442/NG3 to OA1 and back this way and it works fine, dont take too long either. just need all the files.
Thank you for the guide, I will run it soon. Xposed Framework is working just fine with Lollipop as well right? Besides Titanium Backup that is my other need for root.

Unless something has changed very recently, it is only working for AOSP, it is causing bootloops on any Touchwiz based Lollipop.

just one thing when u have a chance to respond. obviously i dont trust google's great development team. so IF L is not so good yet (do we know if this is 5.0 or 5.0.1 or .2?) is there an easier way to get back to 442/NG3. i have read in the post how to bring SS back temporarily, so my real question is Can i Odin the G900A_NG3_Stock_Kernel.tar.md5 and then just restore my XDK install or do i need to go back to NCE and go forward? (i think the answer is no, but hey, its worth it to ask). this is the part i do not understand about SELinux and the partitions and what they do.
i thank you for all your hard work and a small donation will be coming soon. YOU ARE THE CHAMP!!!

[Q] Xposed on I537 running Lollipop OC6

I have an S4 Active I537 which I recently installed the rooted OC6 Lollipop firmware. I have been having a hard time trying to get the framework to install. I got the xposed-sdk21-arm-20150430.zip file from here. I understand that I need to recovery install it. I tried doing the volume up, power and home trick to get into the recovery mode and from there I select "apply update from external storage". It fails and gives the message: "E: footer is wrong. E: Signature verification failed" After that it reboots and automatically performs a recovery format.
I have read that I would need to flash either TWRP or CWM, but apparently none of these are available for the I537.
Any Help?

Use flash fire in lieu of a recovery, we can't use a custom recovery with the locked bootloader. And you can't install any non stock, unofficial software in the stock recovery
Xposed works on our devices (you have to use the special tw version). But it is still an alpha. I have had a lot of issues with FCs and nova launcher not working. I'm trying to make it work total and proper but no luck so far. The replacement gapps in that post for tw Xposed fixed some but not all Google play related FCs but Google play isn't working even after installing the replacement ones here is the link for the tw version. http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/unofficial-xposed-samsung-lollipop-t3113463

Do exactly what was described in Post #2 and #3 in this thead: use FlashFire to flash the TouchWiz version of Xposed.
Install xposed with this apk

ALL Gravitybox features actually do work, as it's under most do not...what I have to do is everytime I make a change, before I reboot I choose battery color and re-apply my color for it. By ending with a feature that works without complication, it seems it then let's the new setup you chose also work. Don't know why this is but everything on my I537 is changed around with GravityBox, took me awhile to figure this out...but trying to figure out which features worked, I was able to get them all to eventually work.
I'm in the same boat as you, except I have xposed framework. What you need is a DEODEXED ROM on it. You use Odin to get on KitKat, root with towelroot, the upgrade to OC6 (not OC7) with a DEODEXED ROM. Then. Once you're in lolipop, install the xposed installer, then the framework with flash fire. One thing though, download all the things you need to your PC because wifi will not work while you are in kitkat, upgrading to lolipop. (At least it didn't for me)

Is this still a better way guys going with OC6 instead of OC7? Can you use the latest Xposed module like 89 or something now?

Which Xposed to use? I'm on 5.0 (samsung s5)

There's so many different xposed versions to choose but unsure which one. Help me?
> Not sure if I'm lolipop or kitkat, but in "about me", it shows version "5.0".
> I'm rooted with the stock rom. Using a custom launcher (nova), not touch wiz.
Thanks
Reason I want to use xposed is because I want to use xPrivacy.
Theres no official support from Xposed for Samsung 5.x ROMs so you cant use the official Xposed releases by rovo89. Your only hope is check this http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/unofficial-xposed-samsung-lollipop-t3113463 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/unofficial-xposed-samsung-lollipop-t3180960 depending if you are in 5.0 or 5.1.1 - Make a full backup of your rom + apps, in case things go south yu will be able to fix things with that backup, im guessing you have a custom recovery installed wich will help you making/restoring the backup and flashing the xposed zip. Good Luck, youre gonna need it.

Thanks, I'm on 5.0 (Don't know if that's truly 5.0 or 5.01) cuz it shows exactly 5.0 in my "About" setting on S5.
So, it seems that I have to go with arter97's xposed version. Now I'm stuck with something: deodexing...
Does deodexing work when you put a ROM on PC and use a certain tool to "deodex" that ROM? Then re-flash it to phone? Problem is, I cannot find the ROM (the one that I used to flash for rooting) on my PC...

I dont have a s5 nor am i familiarized with the root process on that device, anyway is a samsung device so you flash things with odin on it, thats what i do know. Here are my thoughts:
1-. Honestly i think you should update your S5 to 5.1.1 first, if possible, if you have the international version for example. Chek this from android police https://www.androidpit.com/galaxy-s5-android-update
2-. Also here is some info about the S5, his variants and firmwares, worth reading: http://androidforums.com/threads/41-galaxy-s5-models-dummies-guide.892162/
3-. Anyway about the deodexing, if you dont find the file in your PC go to samfirware they have pretty much all the samsung firmwares there. This is only if youre staying in 5.0 of course, and yes you could use samfirmware to find the 5.1.1 rom file for your S5 if there is any available and flash it via Odin, then youll have to install a custom recovery and root your phone using whatever method is right for the S5, again you have to check your variant support, use google youll probablly end up here in XDA again.

Magisk General Support / Discussion

This is the place for general support and discussion regarding "Public Releases", which includes both stable and beta releases.
All information, including troubleshoot guides and notes, are in the Announcement Thread
Oh wowww. Thanks!!
Error in the thread title: 2015.8.4
Yay it's finally here!
I'm already using it and I must say it works fine
Man, this "universal MultiROM support" left me full of hope. I hope it works out. And it was time for a mods manager on Android, thanks topjohnwu
Working great on my N6!
topjohnwu has my vote for President!
(and a well deserved donation)
AMAZING!, now to be sure, if i have a rom and want to integrate Magisk, the correct order of flashing is:
1-rom
2-magisk
3-modded su (magisk compatible)
it's that the way?
topjohnwu said:
....Magisk Is A Magic Mask to Alter System Systemless-ly.
If you are running custom roms, dirty flash the rom again to remove all possible issues. If the rom includes SuperSU, unzip the boot image from the rom zip, and flash it through TWRP, flashify, fastboot etc. to restore to stock ramdisk......
....... you can now download Magisk and flash to your device.
To remove Magisk, restore your boot image back (Magisk will backup your boot image automatically in /data/stock_boot(md5).img.gz), then delete /data/magisk.img.

is the following still applicable in the case of custom roms?
smohanv said:
1. Boot in to TWRP
2. go to Advanced / File Manager and delete folder named supersu
3. go to Advanced / Terminal and enter these two commandsecho SYSTEMLESS=true>>/data/.supersu
echo BINDSYSTEMXBIN=false>>/data/.supersuThe first one forces systemless, the second prevents /su/xbin_bind from existing.4. Flashed Beta SuperSu 2.74-2 (we can notice while flashing this zip after the above script, we will not see the line saying "Disabling OTA". Also, end of flashing it warns that it takes longer time to boot.
5. Reboot device and enjoy systemless
6. To check if we have achieved systemless root, go to system/xbin folder and we should not see the file named "su".
7. I rebooted in to TWRP and flashed xposed 85.1 (also updated with 85.2 later) and installed the apk (Material design apk from this thread)
8. All done and my xposed works.....

Sure you probably did something wrong.
For starters you gave way to little information.
Did you follow the procedure from the OP exactly ?
What rom do you have, custom recovery if any, custom kernel if any ?
How did you flash ?
Come on people give this information by yourself please, don't let us pull it out of you everytime.
You know you are the one needing help than please try to give detailed information about your problem.

Did you flash phh's root zip from this thread's Downloads section or from original phh's thread? If the latter, then that's probably the culprit.

Thanks for trying bro.....
@topjohnwu this new "magisk" method. It doesn't allow Android Pay to work on custom roms like CyanogenMod does it? If I remove SU from CyanogenMod and use your root.
Magisk on (Yu Yureka) ARM64 device
i did a full clean wipe and then flashed rom, magisk and 'Magisk Compatible phh's SuperUser' - in that order. magisk manager app does not open.
Holy crap.. everything universal with support for extensions. This platform could be the beginning of a new era in mods. @topjohnwu amazing work. Don't want to be rude, but personally I think the name of the project is not as awesome as the project itself. "Magisk" sounds a bit cheesy.. :silly:
great work, will try it out soon! one little thing i noticed in the thread title...i guess it should be 2016
