Flashing a Custom Rom?

Hi guys,
I'm on a Moto XT1097 (Telus) with Stock KK 4.4.4, Rooted.
What would happen if I flash a Lolipop 5.1.1 AOSP Custom Rom via TWRP?
Any suggestion is much appreciated.

If i remember correctly you need to be on stock 5.1 before flashing 6.0+ ROMs to avoid modem compatibility problem (like no signal or no wifi).
After you do it it's simple, just flashing from TWRP any ROM and gapps you want
