Charging speed - Moto G4 Plus Real Life Review

To power up, you consume Red Bull. But your phone just needs its adaptive fast charger. Rate this thread to express how quickly the Moto G4 Plus can charge. A higher rating indicates that it charges extremely fast.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

I got 8 freaking hours of screen on time over the last two days. Even if it turns out to be 5 or 6 in the long run, the power charging means that I don't expect to run out of battery soon. Best battery performance since LG g2

Whoa! Are you on stock? Rooted? Kernel? Any changes to the kernel???

6:35 hours of screen-on time over 36 hours. Completely stock, non-root, nothing. Yeah baby!

Dunno if this has been asked or mentioned anywhere on XDA but is it cool to use a non Moto fast charger? Last thing I want is this thing exploding next to my head while in bed...
I ask because screw paying through the nose for a branded one when I have a perfectly good leftover fast charge adapter from an old phone that seems to do a fine job charging the G4 quickly.

My Moto G4 came with the Turbo Charger so how are you paying through the nose for a branded one?

There are two G4 models and only one of them comes with a turbo charger. The G4 Plus. I have the base model. So having to buy your own at Lenovo's prices is how you pay through the nose. Ok? Ok.

Very interesting, especially since I have a basic G4 not a G4 Plus and my phone came with a turbo charger at no extra charge. But to answer your original question I see no reason why any turbo charger would not work. I interchange all of my devices chargers without any negative impact.

I am getting very slow charging speed with turbo charger, can anybody tell me why?

The g4 plus has a rocket charging.

Perfect. 5/5

fast charging time
i love that i do not need to plug it in for too long to get at least a couple of days of battery life. Being an avid mobile gamer, i need my phone to be ready all the time for my games among others. I absolutely recommend it!

Moto G4 plus is one of the best phones in case of battery backup and charging speed...its great combination...

Check your cable, hope its not faulty now.

I cannot make a comparison with other quick charging techniques (YouTube will be you're friend, I guess), but I can state that the Moto G4 Plus charges very rapitly with the OEM Turbo Charger that comes with it
A bit off-topic, but combined with the better camera and really excellent fingerprint sensor, I do not see any reason why people would opt for the regular G4 over the G4 Plus. It is worth the extra money.

Hi, When charging my phone via turbo charger it charges quite fast as mentioned, however my main problem is when I charge via laptop (USB cable), the charging speed is way too slow... I mean I have tried with different chargers but my phone hardly charges via usb cable (for 5% to 15% in ONE hour compared to 5% to 60-80% via turbo charger). Anyone else facing the same issue i.e., damn slow charging via usb cable

Do you mean to say you get days of battery life despite playing games regularly? If yes, do share your secret. Mine lasts about a day with heavy usage, and around 36 hours with light to moderate usage.

Have you tried connecting the cable to a USB3.0 port? 3.0 is to 2.0 what the turbo charger is to a regular charger.

I am using the turbo charger that came with the Moto X Pure and, when connected to the Moto G Plus, it shows TurboPower connected on the screen (and it does charge super fast).

Yup, I tried on both 3.0 and 2.0, but apparently I face the same issue... I guess it's a hardware problem since I also face ghost touches while charging via AC outlet. Look's like I gotta go to the CC for repair.

Fast loading after LineageOS 14.1
Sorry for the English, it was translated by Google.
Actually, the load is very fast, but after I did the bootloader skew and installed LineageOS 14.1, this condition no longer exists, until when in Nougat 7.0 (Stock Rom) when I connected the loader the quick load notification appeared, now no more, The developers of LineageOS will solve this ?, despite this I will continue with LineageOS, I liked it very much, to return now does not make sense, because I have already lost the warranty of my Moto G4 Plus XT1640. Any Forum Moderators who read this can tell me if I should open a new topic. A big hug to everyone

Charging time

I just wanted to know how long it takes to charge Note 2. Mine is on charging the entire night yet it goes to a max of 70%. Where as with hours of charging from pc usb it charges to a 100%.
Get the Galaxy Charging Current app in the play store, then check your cables. Probably bad cable. My original samsung cable was good until a couple months ago when it suddenly went from 1600 ma to 300 ma when it was charging.
Phone modify charge speed whith different cable configuration.
Your cable or connector have a problem.
It's a very simple math. Your N2 battery 3100 mAh. If you use Samsung 2A (2000 mA) charger, it will take you 3100 mAh / 2000 mA = 1.55 h to charge your phone. This is an ideal number considering phone is off (nothing else is draining your battery in parallel). Considering some efficiency factors it will be closer to 2.5 hours since you will not be able to get ideal 2A out of charger anyway. Your charger has the converter and usb cable. If you are not using original converter but rather something you got off ebay, most likely its rated a lot lower, maybe 1A or maybe even less - your charging speed will go down. Then, if you are using cheap usb cables - those might be able to handle only 500 mA of current (typical PC/laptop usb power) - slowing down even more. Plus, when you are charging your phone and you are running some cpu intense apps in the background (like GPS still on, etc.) - you could be discharging your phone at a fast rate in parallel with charging it up.
There are a lot of factors that will be contributing to slow charging speed of your phone. Typically converter and cable are the main ones.
Vectron is quite spot on. My Note 2 charges from >5% to 100% in about 2 and a half hours with the original Samsung AC adapter and USB cable if I'm not using the phone. The charge time dramatically increases if I use a low quality aftermarket cable.
I use an old 850 mA Palm charger which has a nice, thick, low resistance cable. Average time from ~10% to 100% is 3hrs.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.abmantis.galaxychargingcurrent.free
Check your charging current with the above app, my Note 2 comes with a 2A stock charger and with the stock usb cable I get average of 1800mAh which would charge my phone from 0% to 100% in about 1~2 hours, i have a few third party charger/cable too, I used the said tool to find out their charging quality.
Also if you got a third party charger, check its label, they usually have the average currents stated there, if you got a 300~460mah charger it will take a while to fully charge your Note 2.
Check your charger or cable it should take a maximum of 2 hours and half to fully charge the phone.

u might want to install this " GalaxyChargingCurrent_v1.1"
to measure your cable and charger whether supply 2Amp that they should,.
anything show above 1400 then u are fine,
I have an issue charging my 7105 where it will only put through between 100-400mah (according to the Galaxy Current Lite playstore app) through causing 8+ hour charges and fast battery drain, which seemed to be the case with 4 Different MicroUSB cables and 2 chargers.
I ended up fixing this with a custom kernel and rom (beanstalk) using the cable reporting 400 and the original standard charger.
With the uNEAK Engine, I ticked "Ignore 100mA Margin" and "Ignore Unstable Power", jacking up the sliders to max, and I'm now juiced up with 1800mah, charging well within 2 hours.

I'm intriuged with this "Ignore unstable power" option in my kernel as well, but it has a warning saying to try at your own risk. Do you think there are any safety issues with ignoring unstable power?

just want to share my experience : today i tried to charge my phone with LG G2 OEM charger & cable. form 10% - 100% only took amazing ~ 1 hour 20 min :good:. phone on standby, not turned off. i checked LG G2 forum on XDA about where to buy this charger, but no avail. some said they have to call LG US CS support to place order by phone. i didn't have Galaxy Charging Current apps installed when i tried LG's charger. if i can have a hold again, will update here.
here are the charger look :

ZUK Z1 Smartphone Charging Analysis (DO NOT SUPPORT Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0)

ZUK has recently released their very first smartphone, the ZUK Z1. This new model comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p resolution display, and is powered by a Qualcomm 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor with 3GB of RAM. Compared with other smartphones, the biggest highlight for the Z1 is the impressive USB 3.0 standard TYPE C port, and it’s huge 4100 mAH battery.
Because some of our products are a perfect fit for the ZUK Z1, Tronsmart has been fortunate enough to get their international version before the official release date. Our partnership with Zuk will allow us the opportunity to do hands-on testing with the device and report our findings to our supporters.
ZUK plans to release a version for the mainland Chinese market and a second, different version tailored to the overseas market. One of the primary differences between the two versions is:
OS: ZUI vs Cyanogen OS
Charger: 5.3V 2.5A FAST CHARGE VS 5V 2A

As you know, Tronsmart manufactures a large volume of assorted Qualcomm Certified chargers. Recently, we were the first supplier in the world to release a Type C car charger which supports the quick charge QC2.0 specification. We couldn’t wait to test the ZUK Z1 to see if it supported our quick charge 2.0 technology, however, the test result ended up disappointing as we found it is not currently supported. Without the 5.3V/2.5A power adapter, and because it does not support the QC2.0 standard, we were concerned that the international version of the ZUK Z1 will cause a problem with the charging times.
We’re happy to report that the answer is NO, the charging performance is still good after our test, here are some of the test results:
We used the original 5V/2A power adapter, and original usb type C cable, and the result was the following:
Time Battery
11:27AM-11:47AM 0%-15%
11:47AM-11:57AM 15%-24%
11:57AM-12:16PM 24%-39%
12:16PM-12:27PM 39%-48%
12:27PM-13:00PM 48%-76%
13:00PM-13:50PM 76%-99%
13:50PM-13:59PM 99%-100%
We started the testing at 11:27am, and it took 20mins to charge from 0%-15%, we then tested it with a meter, with screen on, the current is running at about 1.46A, with screen off, you can get 2.0A at full speed.
The total charging time is about 2.5 hours. Considering the very large 4100mah battery, we think the charging speed is still very fast. The total charging time is about 2.5 hours, consider the 4100mah battery, we think the charging speed is still very fast.
and then we test to charge the ZUK Z1 with our wall charger / cable and Type C car charger:
Here are the test result:
Time Battery
12:45PM-12:55PM 0%-10%
12:55PM-13:05PM 10%-18%
13:05PM-13:15PM 18%-28%
13:15PM-13:25PM 28%-36%
13:25PM-13:35PM 36%-45%
13:35PM-15:10PM 45%-99%
15:10PM:15:20PM 99%-100%
The total charging time is almost the same as the original chargers. We are guessing the internation version of ZUK Z1 has locked the max current to 2A, while the china mainland version can reach 2.5A.
We are still not sure if this is software locked or hardware. If it is the software, once unlocked our charger can send a full 2.5A current to the ZUK Z1, and the charging speed will be faster.
Anyway, though this device currently lacks quick charge support, the ZUK Z1 charging speed is still acceptable (4100mah, 2.5 hours charging time).

The charger above has a slimmer profile on a power strip than the Motorola "fat" pack (pictured below).

That's interesting because from the photo you posted it looks to be just about as wide as the Moto charger across the face with the prongs. On Delta MD-88 particularly the faces hits the bevels and the blades dont go in all the way to make consistent contact.
But truthfully I forgot that I am holding out looking a QC2.0 true "travel" charger that has international tips. that isn't wide as a bus or at least the tips push the bulk away from the blades. Thankfully they have replaced nearly all those deep recessed outlets that were on B767 which I assume you took to Brazil..
So any ones with travel tips?
The other pictures on Amazon of the one you posted definitely show it look smaller profile on the prong face. So I can see it is in the right size range. now to find an international one.

Just telling you it worked for me.
On the way down I used just the charger, as is.
Coming back, I had high quality Brazilian plug adapter still connected to the charger (from using it in Brazil), so I kept that on while charging on the Delta flight back. Didn't see the need to remove the adapter, and possibly lose it.
You can buy one of those and there's your travel tips.
______
Another nice thing about the charger I found it is it automatically detects voltage and adjusts as needed. 100 volts - 240 volts. All the outlets in the charging stands at the Sao Paulo airport were 220 volts, while residential Sao Paulo uses 127 volts. Before I plugged it into the airport charging stand, I went back to the Amazon description just to make sure I wasn't about to burn up my phone or the charger...

Yes, they both use the Qualcomm standard Quick Charge 2.0. Motorola just calls it "Turbo Charging", but it's really just Quick Charge 2.0. Any certified Quick Charge 2.0 (or even 3.0) charger will work. Here's a Qualcomm PDF showing a list of 3.0 and 2.0 devices. Both Samsung Galaxy S6 series and Droid Turbo (Quark, so also Moto Maxx and Moto Turbo) are listed as being Quick Charge 2.0. I already knew that from reviews when I bought the phone, but there it is also from Qualcomm who makes the Snapdragon chipsets.
This year a lot of phones are using the newer Quick Charge 3.0. All the new Quick Charge 3.0 chargers are backwards-compatible with 2.0 and 1.0 phones:
Introducing Quick Charge 3.0: next-generation fast charging technology

So, no worries about buying a 3.0 charger in the future if happen to buy one. Our phone will still charge at 2.0 speeds, but it won't hurt it to be charged with a 3.0 charger.
In the opposite direction, OnePlus is using proprietary chargers for their OnePlus 3. It is NOT any Qualcomm Quick Charge standard, like 2.0 or 3.0. It's something they made up and you have to use their overpriced chargers with that phone. This was after last year, when their laughable so-called "flagship killer" OnePlus 2 phone didn't have Quick Charge nor NFC. This year, they at least included NFC, but they still don't have REAL Quick Charge -- they have their own "Dash Charge", but you use their own cables and adapter ($35, but now on sale for only $33!).
No thanks.
Just ordered this VERY small QuickCharge 2.0 wall charger for my wife to use at work
.
Size: 1.89 x 1.97 x 1.1 in (48 x 50 x 28 mm)
The price is GREAT.

First thing guys i did not started this with a comparission in mind, i was just troubleshoting my phone but while i was testing all the chargers i have laying the house it seemed to me like a good idea to take note and share my findings. That said lets get to the problem:
Last mont (october 2015) i bought a new battery from official LG retailer it cost me Bs 12000 (Im from venezuela, crazy high prices for us), i did this because a part of my touch screen is dead and i read in several places that replacing the battery may fix that, well it didnt but at least i have a new battery. Anyway, the thing was super expensive, i also bought a LG "Original" Charger + USB cable at Bs 3000 from at respected seller, the Nexus 4 original oem charger fall from a table and died, it wasnt broke just didnt charge anything at all, thats why i bought a new one. I didnt pay much attention to the charging time until like 2 weeks ago, i was playing in the phone with the charger plugged and the battery was slowly discharging wtf?, since then ive been trying roms and kernel settings because i was to lazy to try another chargers until today. I was thinking about ROM and/or Kernel related problem since I updated to Android M about that time (2 weeks ago). So i didnt have idea if it was rom, kernel, battery or charger what wasnt working properly.
My phone setup:
ROM: Cataclysm Oct 27 2015 + SmartRadio Fix
Kernel: Hellscore b87-M (Hellsactive governor, row scheduler, DT2W and USB Fast Charge both enabled)
Method:
I used 2 USB cables, a generic no branded and a samsung one.
In developer options i enabled Stay Awake option so the screen will never go off while the phone is plugged.
I plugged the first charger with the generic cable and let the phone charging until it showed me the stimated remaining time for full charge, then i plugged the next charger (still with generic cable) and rebooted the phone, after boot i wated until it showed me the remaining time to go with the next charger, once i tested all the chargers i replaced the generic cable for the samsung and repeated the process. So i tested the charger twice, one with each cable, and yes i got the same results every time, so iguess this android feture is actually doing his job and saying the truth.
LG Original Charger - Not really original. Lited Output: 1000mAh
Samsung original charger, i bouth this one like 2 years ago like genuine, but is not. Listed Output: 1000mAh Now blury but i remember it was that amount.
Blu Charger from a Blu Jenny TV phone i have. Made touchscreen go crazy. Listed Output: 500mAh
Orinoquia Charger. Orinoquia is a brand selled by the goverment here in Venezuela. Listed Output: 550mAh
USB Charge. Straight from the back panel of my motherboard (MSI B75MA-E33, Windows 10 Pro x64)
Nokia Original OEM Charger. This is from my mom's Nokia Lumia. Listed Output: 750mAh
The Nokia charger was the only one that was actually delivering the amount of power that it says it should deliver. From now on im gona have a hard time thinking about wich charger im gonna buy. Dont buy cheap chargers guys and only buy them from the company itselft when possible or an authorized reseller. Sorry for my english
I always used a 2A Blackberry Playbook charger for my Nexus 4. Had it for three years and when I handed it to my Dad to use three weeks ago it would still do a day and a half normal usage.
Best charger out there. Still using it with my LG G4. Charges super quick.
Your USB cable can also make a difference.
You mentioned that you played with phone while it was charging...Its possible that you had lose contact at same time and cable was not supplying enough current for battery to charge. Just go to battery stats screen and it will show charging mode. If current being supplied is around 500 mA it will shows USB. This has happened to me on various phones including the n4. I usually just turn off wifi and data connnection and turn screen off while its charging and it really charges faster. ( better option would be to turn off phone). My charger is also broken (fell from wall socket on the floor) and it takes abut 3-4 hours to charge the phone.
I have also used friend's nokia charger and they are quite good. You can continue using it.. better use a 1.5 A or 1 A charger ( stock charger output is 1.2A)
I would also point out the Blackberry charger I use has a captive cable which reduces the connection issues.

Thanks ill try to find a charger with that output that actually delivers it.
My 0,05$:
I tried out a lot of chargers for both my nexus 4 & nexus 9 (tablet) and got by far the best results with Nillkin chargers & usb cables (you can by them cheap from banggood.com). Bought 4 so far (home-office-multiple devices): Very fast charge (much faster than original chargers included with both Nexus 4 & 9), very decent build quality, useful USB cable, charger doesn't make any humming noise, etc. Can strongly recommend.
after i had lost my original n4 charger, i used a motorola charger, which delivered max ~600mA or something. then i bought sony cycle energy wall charger CP-AD2. it is very cheap yet quite powerful. i suggest using currentwidget for checking charging speed. sony charger delivers min 700mA max 816mA (i think its the limit of the n4 since sony charger can deliver up to 2A)

I agree.
I'm using a Samsung USB cable with my original LG N4 charger.
It charges twice as fast compared to the original cable that came with the charger.
However, I'm pretty sure it was okay before. Maybe the LG cable is not as durable as the Samsung cable.
Okay!! Yes it is true. I myself now use only the Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime's charger. As it charges my Nexus 4 far more faster than the real charger.

any info on the "quick charge"?

So I got my VIVO XL yesterday, charged it, and used it for one cycle all the way to 1%. I have to say, the battery life was amazing on that first cycle and I was impressed. Phone on time was 15hr 11mins, screen on time was 6hr 41mins, all this on my first charge and at 50% brightness.
I was excited that the battery was at 1% and couldn't wait to use the "quick charge" to see how "fast" it would charge since I never had a device with "quick charge capabilities" before. So I plugged it in, and timed it, what a major disappointment.
Here are the results(phone plugged in at 1%):
1hr @ 43%
1hr15min @ 51%
1hr 30min @ 62%
1hr 45min @ 71%
2hr @ 79%
2hr 15min @ 86%
2hr 30min @ 90%
2hr 45min @ 93%
3hr @ 96%
3hr 15min @ 97%
3hr 30min @ 98%
3hr 45min @ 99%
3hr 56min @ 100% FULL CHARGE
4hrs to charge a phone
Anyone else experience this. This took longer to charge than any device I ever used/tested/played with. and is totally unacceptable. There is no information anywhere as to what this so-called "quick charge" is. When I first plugged it in to charge, it said something about check this box for DU quick charge. What is that? It said I had 18 minutes of quick charge available.
I did some digging around, and the device is supposed to be supplied with a 9V/2A quick charger, I was supplied a 5V/2A charger. I sent an email to BLU in reference to this issue. BLU might owe us all new chargers:silly:

thanks for the feedback guys
I've given up on getting quick charging on this phone. Since the phone has a mediatek cpu, it supposedly supports Mediatek's version of quick chargings (9v, 2a) which is called PumpExpress+. I bought a Meizu MX5 charger off of aliexpress which is suppose to support PE+. Even with the Meizu charger, I still onyl get 5v and 1.4amps max. I get that charge rate regardless of which charger I use.
I contacted Blu's support about this issue and they were extremely unhelpful. I asked if the phone supported mediatek PumpExpress+. I didn't get a straight answer, just a reply saying to only use the included charger. I asked if Blu is going to sell a compatible 9v charger for quick charging and they said no. I gave up at that point. Their support is pretty much useless. I like the phone otherwise though.
what are you using to read the charging volts/amps?
BLU cusomter service is probably the worst i have delt with in a while, and contacted the warrantu dept. They shipped out a 9v2a charger to(or so they said), it will be here friday. i will post my results.
you are the first person i heard that cant get a quick charge while using at least a 9v2acharger. maybe there is something wrong with your battery or charging port?
just installed Ampere to check the current. with crappy supplied BLU charger, it see 3.9v max and 1.2a max. Tried galaxy s4 charger which is also a 5v2a charger, results were almost identical; 4v max and 1.22a max

I used this this DROK usb watt meter. I don't trust ampere or any other app based measurements. Phones often have different charging profile depending if the phone screen is on or off in order to limit heat generation in the device. I've tried the Meizu charger with PE+ and a Qualcomm compatible QC 2.0 charger. Neither will charge the phone at 9v.
There was one other person on slickdeals who also could not get fast charging to work with a Meizu charger. I honestly don't think Blu enabled fast charging on this phone.
I would be super interested in your results with the charger furnished by Blu. Must've taken you quite a while to get them to agree to send you the charger. Props to your persistence!

Did you end up getting the 9v charger from Blu yesterday? I'm really interested in your results.
sorry for the late reply. needless to say, the charger BLU sent was a 5v1a. i called them back and they said thats the only chargers they give through warranty, and that they dont know why in was told id be sent a quick charger.
i bought this, and still only see 4v and 1.2a while charging. obviously it is not enabled in the device. can we say false advertisement?

i am going to file a report with the FTC addressing this issue as it is illegal.
That's really unfortunate. Blu does supply a 9v/2a quick charger for the Pure XL phone. The Pure XL also has a Mediatek processor so if any charger from Blu could give the Vivo XL quick charging, that would be it. If you make enough trouble for them, they might send you the Pure XL charger! I agree that Blu's ad is extremely misleading. I like this phone otherwise, but Blu's customer service is pretty incompetent.
^the charger i bought from amazon is a 9v/2a, so using the charger from pure xl wont make any difference. quick charge is just not inside the device, guess BLU realized at some point before production began that it would dip too much into their profits if selling the phone for $150usd.

The charger you got from amazon is 9v/2a, but it's based on Qualcomm's Quick Charge technology. it'll only work on phones with Qualcomm processors that support the Quick Charge standard.
Vivo XL uses a Mediatek processor. So Qualcomm Quick Charge chargers won't work on the Vivo XL. You'll need a charger that supports Mediatek's 'Pump Express' technology. http://www.mediatek.com/en/features/power-management/pump-express/
you cant buy that charger anywhere though, so i cant even test it. also, someone on another forum said they got a blu device to accecpt the qualcomm charger, actually, it was a youtube video.
