Hi,
I have a d415 that i booted into fastboot mode with and wanted to unlock bootloader with. I then found out that it was already unlocked. Now i would like to restore download incase i screw anything up. I have the laf.img. Where do i go from there? None of the commands i type in fastboot mode work, possibly because i didn't correctly install the fastboot and adb drivers. If that is the problem, can someone give me clear instructions on how to download them, thanks. Instead, i used the basic adb and fastboot files from a different thread from android sdk. Adb doesn't even work anymore for me now. Please help
Thanks a ton in advance!

this is what i tried to do: wanted to flash a new rom from my original froyo. read through the guide and got it rooted and installed rom manager and in turn installed recovery. booted into recovery and made a backup. tried installing a rom but it wouldnt let me so at the end installed RA recovery instead. i was able to flash a different rom. mpw tried to boot to recovery to get stock rom it display just the android and exlamation mark.
i can get into bootloader but in recovery wont show a thing as if it lost the recovery program.
tried installing sdk but adb wont see the phone.
SDK version 9, windows vista
Any ideas?
You have the stock recovery...
Read the wiki. Follow the guide for unroot/restore, using passimg method and FRG33. Start again rooting (though you probably want to read a bit more first, and make sure you can connect via adb and fastboot BEFORE you mess with stuff)...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
issue is i cant connect through adb or fastboot since i dont have the debug mode before it all went
You don't need adb or fastboot to follow the unroot/restore guide. I was simply suggesting that you make sure it works before you try and root again.
Unroot/restore.
Get adb and fastboot working.
Play with phone.

how can i get adb/fastboot working. i went through the guide and dozens of other websites.
adb doesnt see a phone connected even though under device manager it shows an android device.
Install the drivers when in fastboot mode, and you'll have fastboot. It's not adb.
fastboot won't help you unless your bootloader is unlocked. adb you won't get, unless you install a ROM and enable debug, or install a custom recovery - which, again, you won't be able to install without unlocked bootloader. adb doesn't work in bootloader mode, you should have found that in at least one of the "dozen guides".
So, you have 2 options:
1) you have unlocked bootloader or you want to unlock bootloader - in that case, enter the bootloader, connect usb, install fastboot drivers, install custom recovery with fastboot.
2) you don't want to unlock bootloader - then follow the correct advice given to you in danger-rat's posts above.

ok problem solved and thanks. all along the dll file for fastboot was in platform-tools instead of tool within the sdk hence why fastboot never worked. unlocked the bootloader and recovered my old image. incase anyone else have this issue.
thanks
So let's say theoretically that someone in their first week of using an Android device (ever) were to boot up the TWRP recovery and wipe their Fire because YOLO. Would anyone have advice for any possible way to revive it? Here's a description of the device's state:
It boots the Amazon logo only, and adb lists the device as unauthorized. If I boot it in recovery it says it's in fastboot mode and adb doesn't recognize the device at all. (Edit: ) Fastboot does recognize it though, but I'm not sure of the best path to take since I can't use adb to push files to the device for reinstallation of the firmware.
So from my view it's a paperweight, and that's cool because what I did was all kinds of dumb (thinking I could still revive it after what I was doing). But before I use it as a door stop, I figured I might ask you guys what you'd do. I'm guessing maybe I boot from an image that allows me to push the firmware to the sdcard, then I can boot from TWRP recovery and install it, but the first image to use there is something I'm not yet sure of.
Have you tried the methods at http://forum.xda-developers.com/amazon-fire/general/unbrick-restore-stock-2015-amazon-fire-t3250639

Thanks for the reply
I think that's along the lines of what I need to do, but I can't use adb sideload as adb no longer sees the devices in recovery. Fastboot does though.

Ah you know what, you just encouraged me to read over again and try one different thing. The CM recovery enables adb sideload, and I'm pushing the stock firmware to it now.
Thanks for the help

The very first thing I recommend you to do, is to download the right recovery and install it via command
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.zip
Let me know if you run into any further troubles.

Hi,
Frist in boot loader check your OS version it should be something like 2.19.401.2 or lower than this.
NB: ALWAYS TRY WITH MORE THAN 75% BATTERY, AND THAT FOR ANY CODE TO WORK PROPERLY, MAKE SURE TO SELECT FASTBOOT BY POWER KEY IN BOOTLOADER
Anyway, if you can enter fastboot, then you have some chance of recovering your device and because you have S-Off it is going to be a bit difficult.
First download this stock boot file : https://mega.nz/#!lEAVwRSL!wrP2hi6GEYLeJaPf2ssZo9wCtSi7E4yfyUHgh3Q3XSs
Then place this file in the ADB folder, then run command :
To flash boot file command is:
Code:
- Fastboot Devices (this command is important to know if the device is connected and accepting and responding commands)
- fastboot flash boot boot_signed.mg (assuming this is the name you saved the file with)
- fastboot reboot bootloader
Also download Stock Recovery: https://mega.nz/#!gVJE1Bxa!6SwXStAD8p-XlnQiPkRcdNo_ITFD1ykn-tN6wIBVi1I
Place this in ADB folder and run command:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery stockrec.img // (assuming that is the name you have saved the file with), only after flashing this you will know if the device has any OS, if OS exists it will boot up.
fastboot erase cache
Attempt and let us know how it went...Good Luck
Ok..so here's the situation. I was going to install a new ROM ( my son got a new phone a iphone ) but any ways. As I was in TWRP i did everything we all normally do but the phone died mid flashing GAPPS. when i went to pulg the phone to the charger and restart the phone i see that it started to boot up the it jumped straight to FASTBOOT and it's stuck. I can toggle through fastboot but that is it. when i go to restart it will show the boot animation but then goes to fast boot. it wont go to TWRP nothing. I've combed XDA and found the multi tool but don't think that is working or i might be using it wrong. the computer doesn't recognize the phone. im trying to get this phone back up and going and give to my daughter . any help is greatly appreciated. thank you in advacne.
Here's what I'm talking about just in case someone asks
Try installing a stock factory image from fastboot.

How...I can't get my computer to recognize the phone... When I plug it in it doesn't read it...I should have the drivers already installed...adb push right.... I'll search for the command to see if it finds the phone
adb never works in fastboot mode. You'll have to use the fastboot command.
On the PC, try
fastboot devices
to see whether the phone is available. If not, check your drivers - I believe that fastboot uses a different USB driver.
With fastboot, you can't install zip-files, only image files. So download the stock factory image, not the OTA.

Thanks for the heads up I'll definitely be trying this and I'll give you an update soon
Hello all, I'm trying to install a new ROM but one of the first steps consists in getting access to adb and fastboot mode.
Unfortunately, I can easily access to adb mode, and adb commands respond well, but when I then go in fastbood mode 'adb reboot fastboot", My phone goes to fastboot with the icon on the screen, but won't answer to any fastboot commands.
I've tried to install adb drivers, uninstall/reinstall the drivers (but it's always the windows drivers that installs first). I even tried to install google usb drivers using SDK manager, but didn't succeed this step.
I've tried to change the usb cable, but with another one, it was worse: even the adb commands would not work. So I guess the one I'm using is ok.
I'd be very happy if someone could help me fixing this frustrating bug!

For fastboot try:
adb devices
........... (here you must see a number)
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot devices
........... (here you must see that number again)
Hi, thanks for trying to help me:
you're right , first is the unlock, but it's done. it's even in "grey" on the screen and written: bootloader is already unlocked. I've tested my phone with "root checker" and test is ok.
you're right about the command, this is the one I've used to go to fastmode and actually this command works: as I said, when in adb mode, it's all good: my phone is connected to pc and accepts the adb commands. But once I switch to fastboot, this is when it's going wrong: my phone's not answering to any commands.
To be more precise: when prompting: adb devices: i get a number. When prompting, in fastbood mode, fastboot devices: i get nothing.
Alleluia!!
Finally found out how to fix it!
After going in fasboot mode with the command: adb reboot bootloader, i opened the windows device manager: There I found a android XXx interface, or something like this: anyway, something barely identified by windows. Right clik, update drivers, manually update, pointing to the folder I store the google usb drivers and : Bingo! It works like a treat.
I now can step further in the process... Hope I won't need to come back with another question in the next minutes!
