So its been a very long time since I last rooted and played with an android phone, until now. And it has been fairly easy going with this device. I don't really want to do much more or get crazy with theming etc... But I would love to see something nicer than the stock BLU boot animation...
As long as you are rooted you can download boot animations from the play store. Its worked fine for me.

You can change the boot animation by changing the boot animation zip like on any other Android device.

Do I have to match the same resolution of the original or will it fit to screen? Also does the same process work for shutanimation.zip? And I assume bootaudio.mp3 and shutaudio.mp3 can also be replaced?? Thanks

Thanks, for helping answer those for me, i just read the following so I'll just try some premade ones out until I have time to come up with my own
"As a rule, a boot animation made for a lower resolution device will run fine on a high resolution one but it will be centered on the screen, with the extra screen space around it not being used. Using a high resolution boot animation on a low resolution device will result in the boot animation not fully displaying on the screen, with its outer parts being cut off due to being outside the screens bounds."
And this seems to be a good read on getting started on my own...
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-change-customize-create-android-boot-animation-guide/
Replacing both animations resulted in the boot animation being changed but the shutdown animation is still stock, so the software must be reading it from a different location.
You can brush a third party rom, or use software changes, you may need root privileges

K9 Mail
RockPlayer
720p video saved as .mp4
Please let me know of anything else you find in the rom.

The ROM is fine.. I am not getting the phone icon on the home screen.. it's got a dot.. and all apps and internet on the front.. but when I click on the dot nothing happens.. it appears like the phone icon/button was not installed properly.. anyone else have a problem with that in this ROM?

Awesome stuff! The boot animation is sweet lol .. I wish everybody putting out roms would get onboard and put them on Rom Manager.. it sure makes getting your rom noticed easier. Not to mention saves me a lot of time when at work lol

Just my opinions, but don't uninstall simply because of the boot animation, that's one of the easiest things to change about a ROM. just replace the animation with one you like and see how the ROM is.

how do I get rid of the sound on boot? I tried flashing a new boot animation and pushing one through adb. Neither changed it.

In case anyone else is interested in getting rid of the "shots" audio, the file is /system/media/audio/notifications/Friendly.mp3 took me a little while to find it so hope it helps someone else out.
I tried the same thing with no luck here either, the Jager rom does not seem to be doing traditional bootanimation. It appears he is overwriting a system ringtone for the audio. As for the .png animations, I could not locate any while dissecting the ROM??

Does anyone know what the new Android 2.3 screen off animation runs off
If it uses a .zip like the boot animation, we may be able to create custom screen off animations. I'm searching for the mysterious and possibly non-existent file now, but it would be great if someone could help, or tell me there isn't one and I should give up, which is my assumption now.
It isn't in the /system/media folder if anyone was planning to check there.
A good place to start would be CM7. Cyanogenmod has already implemented the ability to turn on and off the screen off animation. Not only that, he reversed the animation and made a screen ON animation.
That's probably what you should be looking at.
Only problem with that is that CM7 isn't very stable in many ways as of yet. Most of the Android platform has been "figured out" in that we know where most of the graphics etc are. This one to my knowledge has still be illusive
CM7 not stable? apart for the phone bug that's already taken care of everything works...

It's got the equivalent to duct tape over it (at least last I heard if you are referring to shutting the mic off every 60 seconds). I admit to not following the thread too closely as it moves at lightning speed, but doesn't seem like something I'd want to use daily yet.
A duct tape that works very well.
Use it before you judge it. CM7 nightly is very polished even though it's not considered "stable".
I'm using it for everyday use without any hiccups for the past month, of course the duct tape helped.
there "was" an active one in the Evo thread about this but the conclusion to this whole thing was that the screen off animation is in the code itself and that code was not in froyo anywhere. so pretty much that screen off animation is only limited to 2.3 roms. someone else on xda made a flashable zip that enabled the screen off animation in a 2.3 rom that didnt have it active. like everyone suggested, stick to a 2.3 rom and forget about porting it to anything below it if thats what you were thinking.
edit: here is the link to the thread that was most active about getting the animation http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=864556&highlight=screen+animation
i know its a few pages long but somewhere around page 14-17 they talk about the details about where it comes from and the actual code itself

Don't think the OP was talking about porting it to anything other than 2.3, just the possibility of modifying it so we can have a custom animation.
Screen burst into flame as it goes off anyone
The Gingerbread Screen off animation is not in /system/media folder, it is controlled by some .xml files in framework-res.apk
Noticed none of the current builds have the CRT animation enabled, thought I'd share how to turn it on. Please note that it is at times a bit buggy. For me it works about 8 out of 10 times.
What it is:
Note: 1 - This will work on any device and on any version of Android back to GB. (Obviously the Nexus specific tools wont work on anything other than the Nexus)
Note 2 - You will have to redo this every time you update your rom.
Here's the quick rundown -
First, you'll have to pull the framework-res.apk from your tablet.
This can be done via adb, but the easiest way would be to either use WugFresh's Nexus Root Toolkit or mskips Google Nexus 7 TOOLKIT.
When asked what file to pull, type in "/system/framework/framework-res.apk" (without quotes)
Once you have that pulled, install this tool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432152
Follow the directions on how to use it in the thread.
Once you have decompiled the apk, you'll want to edit the "files-to-edit\framework-res.apk\res\values\bools.xml" file.
The value you want to change in the bools value is the "<bool name="config_animateScreenLights">true</bool>" change "true" to "false". I reccommend downloading Notepad++ to edit.
Make sure you save it. Once saved, recompile the apk using the tool you install, then create an update zip (I renamed mine to crtanimation.zip for ease).
Reboot into recovery, flash the zip, clear cache, reboot.
Tada!

They most likely don't know what CRT animation is, NOT why they might want to make changes to the system.
Nothing in the OP provides a hint as to what that is or what it does. To be honest, I'm not sure I know what it is. A quick search shows that it is enabled in a lot of ROMs but not what it actually is or does.

Okay... I get it... It enables animation effects when turning the device off, rather than just blanking the screen.
I get the same effect turning on and off with
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.soulfulz.android.turnoffscreen
You can select from a number of effects, sounds for both when the device is turned on and off via the button. You have to hit the button for it to do it, but for the risk of modifying system files, this is easy and safe to do.

Except your solution is wakelock city on top of having to enable it as a device administrator. Sounds like you also have to hit the shortcut or use the app itself to get the desired effect versus it being naturally accomplished when hitting the power button/screen timeout. And if it doesn't work in ICS, not sure it will work on JB.

Curious, they didn't implement it in their flagship first tablet and first official device to have Jelly Bean?
BTW, I am not knocking you, just have a lot of experience dealing with users that don't read, can't follow instructions...

If they mess it up, it wont brick, and if it does, all they have to do is dirty flash their rom and it's fixed.
I asked the question "Why" because it seems a lot of trouble just to see your device (N7, in this case) turn off. I've done a great deal of modding to my ICS devices, but haven't really found much reason to mod a JB device. I know there are tons of boot animations which make your device really different when turned on, but having CRT just for turning off your device seems a waste of time.
Of course, this is only my opinion and I'm glad you figured out how to do this, but I still don't understand why!

This is easy. Take any of the N6 boot animations that exist in the N6 themes & apps. Take the desc.txt file from that boot animation. Switch it out with your example boot animation. Voila. It will be formatted to the right resolution for you
