In froyo, I heard that the gmail app has new options based on different file type attachments. for example, if its an apk attached to the email then theres the option to install. is this true?
Yes. It was a surprise to me! I love it.

Even better - they added text selection, copying and changing a forwarded / replied email.
how come when I send myself an email with an apk attached, the only option I get is 'preview'
anyone know whats wrong?
does the file name end in .apk and isn't zipped?
Yeah it was a great feature they added. Pretty surprised.

I removed the gmail apk because it didn't make sense having email & gmail, so I synced my gmail in the email app so I can manage all my accounts at once. After reading your thread I pushed it back and sent myself a apk file, and it displayed a install button, when I viewed the same message in the email app, it only gave the option to view, and it would'nt view the file. But you can install apk files from your gmail app. That's why I read the forums, always learning something new about my wonderful phone. Thanks

I have updated to the latest gapps, I flashed the one cyan posted on the official cm6-rc1 thread and Im assuming the gapps link in the nightly thread and the official cm6 thread are the same. I know gmail is updated because when I send a picture attachment to myself, there is a "download" and "preview button. It just seems like it wont play nice with apk attachments.
Also another question, when using the "download" in gmail for pictures, do your downloaded files get renamed to downloadfile.jpeg?
Yeah, and my attached APKs get saved as "downloadfile.apk".

Uninstalling with an (root) uninstaller called lidroid toolbox, that does take the apk out of data, i suppose
i dont have deodexed, because i dont need it, and it will only take more ram (some say)

I'm just asking...
deodexed is only good for the themes right? Cause as far as I know, with odex the performance is higher.
Asked about the apps files cause if the uninstaller only uninstall and don't delete those files, you'll have a few MB of memory occupied with them...
Check on "Device/data/data/" and see how it goes
I saw that one of you uninstall Finance, right? Go to "Device/system/apps/bootup" and see if its not there occupying around 9,xxMB... and others.
I needed to go there and delete them manually, maybe you guys are mor lucky than me
Best regards

From those I deleted all except "NativeLiveWallpapers.apk","NativeNoiseField.apk" and "PolarisOffice.apk".
Just because if I want to "factory Reset" I might need them. The others I don't.
Some apps only have the .odex file after being executed soo, if you uninstall them before you run them its normal that the .odex dont appears.
Others, even if are installed and executed and active, just don't have the .odex, like "Facebook" for example (at least I don't have it in "app directory").
Some apps are installed in different directory than the rest too...
Its a question of search to keep the space available on the phone.
Once that we're deleting/uninstalling those apps, don't make sense keep those files, unless later we want to do a "factory reset" and have them all back again.
My advice is, go slowly, freeze the apps first before uninstall, reboot the phone after froze the app to see the phone beavior. If after those steps the phone don't show any problems, then I think its same to uninstall and remove all the files from the selected app.
Good luck and take care!

"NativeLiveWallpapers.apk","NativeNoiseField.apk" and "PolarisOffice.apk" are stored in /system/apps/bootup folder and they are managed by LG app "Application Manager". In that folder we can find also "LGWorld.apk", "LGWorldClockWidget.apk", "PowerControlWidget.apk" and "TodayPlusWidget.apk".
Logically we can add other .APK files inside /system/apps/bootup in order to manage them with a/m LG app.
Nice thanks

I think that what we're trying to do is taking garbage out, not put more inside...
I personally don't use LGapp manager, once that I'm using "Root Uninstaller" I frooze it.
I don't know about the others but, once I install an app I delete the install .apk cause its not needed anymore. I have them in my computer in case of need.

Indeed I used the term "We can" and not "We must", logically everyone can decide if remove also the already installed .APK files or to keep/put other ones in order to better manage own apps.
I don't understand why you delete .apk files after installing apps, you just free only few megabytes from internal storage, without any particular improvements and pros. Most of space occupied in internal storage is due to application's data (for example consider the games), they can waste the internal storage for even several gigabytes. In my humble opinion, the main problem is if someone uninstalls an app (for example a game), but all data downloaded by the app remain inside storage data. In this case the user must discover where data were stored and delete them manually using a file manager to free so much space on internal storage.

Sorry @italianquadcore but, one of us is kind of lost here...
The topic here is about "Removable Stock LG Apps", even if the OP main subject is to save battery, the question is wiche and how to do it.
I didn't said more than what I mean. Remove the install .apk is just to save space. Might not be a lot, some apps have 1 or 2 MB, others not
even that, but others have more than 10MB and a few of them, depending of how many, can reach a considerable amount...
What you said is not new, OK, maybe for someone who don't know the difference between odexed and deodexed, etc... but its something logic.
If you wanna freeze apps
the app you use to freeze apps will also cost battery...
and...
please check the 'permission' before installing apps
e.g. the "LidroidToolBox" from op

Big thanks for lightning me so much. I think the others will also apreciate your precious comment...
Appart that I think that everybody knows that, I guess that is a good trade, 1 app against 6,7, 10apps... or more.

i think lidroid toolbox is better you can disable the apps which wont remove the APK, just disable them, or you can uninstall them, which will remove the app and remove the APK, and i am not sure, but i think also to .odex (if you got that) because i cant see any odex files of the removed apps

Thanks for your reply.
You told in previous post that you usually remove .APK files after installing apps. If you told this, I considered that you told about downloaded apps. I know what is the subject here (I understand the english language), for this reason I told you about system apps not other apps. Apps inside /system/apps/boot are part of the system folders, so are part of the same apps regarding this subject. In a/m folders there also some system apps, many of them provided by LG, some of them cannot be found on Market, so user has to backup them before uninstall them. The goal in this subject is to speed-up this device, removing/freezing all unneeded apps, logically stock apps.
A question : I cannot understand what means "maybe for someone who don't know the difference between odexed and deodexed". It is not the first time that I read this phrase about "odexed/deodexed". But is it so important to know the a/m difference? There is a difference of respect and social level here in this forum if someone knows it or not? Thanks.

There is no "difference of respect and social level here in this forum".
Its just cause sometimes we're talking about "eggs" (for example) and right away appears some suggestion about "chickens"...
Its like if I said that «the black O4X is a great phone», and right after other user appears and tells me that «the white one is so good as the black one» but, sometimes in a way, that looks that I'm stupid, and I should explain all the situations and conditions, when I'm talking about a specific issue under specific conditions... I go crazy with that
BTW, the odexed or deodexed was not for you, it was just in case...
Regards, oppure ciao

I installed the app and I see that a file gets installed in /sdcard/Android/obb. I can't read Arabic, so I've no idea what the app is saying.
I don't get any permission errors like you do, looking at my logs, but I do get a popup.
I'm running OOS 5.0.8
Sorry I can't be of more help.

I really appreciate your time and your response, it says dictionary files doesn't exist, the app trying to read obb file with no success, I don't know why,
Edit : from the log
"failed to find OBB mounted file and actually it does exist in its folder
