Youtube Official app isn't a battery hog at the first place.
The best alternate would be the browser but you won't have HD video in a browser (unless you switch to desktop mode).
Side Note: Firefox allows background play on youtube.

12-13% an hour IMO is battery hog :F
If you use YouTube, it will use battery. It's as simple as that.
12-13% per hour youtube means 7 hours non-stop youtube play until the battery is fully out...means 7 hours sot...
well..I'll be damn...that is gooooooood! Godly, if I may say so myself.

Install xposed and youtube 'background playback'. You can then switch off the screen and still get the audio. It should save some battery. Works pretty well for music...less for videos

I`m on oxygen 3.2.1 and play videos in 50 or 60 frames.
With root
I uninstall YouTube from oxygen and reinstall from Google play.

I'm a big fan of NewPipe. It's not available in the Play Store so you'll either have to install it with F-Droid or download the .apk from the F-Droid site.
I used to be a fan of New Pipe as well, until I have found YouTube Music. You can get it straight from XDA forums or install XDA Labs and get the app from there. In my opinion I think is the best apk for YouTube background, stream or download.

How are you getting lower than that with regular use? Not even with black themed apps can I get under 10% / hour unless I'm just looking at a black background without doing anything else.

I'd like to have a 3rd party youtube app with playback speed control, or even better, an xposed module that adds speed control to the stock YouTube app.

Hi all,
I am new to this forum...just quickly asking if there is any Lt25i user on this forum having the same issue with the battery. I've been using it for about 8 months with a stock rom (4.1.2, all updated). It is good device in generally apart from the battery which drain itself in about 8 hours or 9 hours of normal office worker use (you know, reply 20 or 30ish msgs or a couple calls total 30 mins tops, play around during lunch time, on a HSPA+ network, not LTE, about 20 apps installed on the device and no games at all).. and sometimes you can see the battery percentage drops down by one or two percent when you have been whatsapping continuously for about 10 mins..That's so much quicker than the other phone that I have (Galaxy S4). any one experiencing the same issue? what would you recommend? I am planning to flash the rom but not entirely sure which to choose. Your response is appreciated.
Ray
Youre not alone buddy. Although to many causes frustrations, if I'm just texting (whatsapp) I just leave it on Edge, or disable mobile data when im not using the phone. It's when I'm surfing the net that I'll leave it on HSPA+.

A lil battery optimization even on this 'tiny' battery by 2014 standards could have gone a long way.

To be quite honest, 5.5 hours of screen on is pretty darn awesome for any Android phone except behemoths like RAZR MAXX or Galaxy Note models.

However, with HSPA+ always on I can only get around 3.5-4 hours SOT at 15 plus hours on battery. The OP should install BBS and check what eats his battery on the background. 8 hours is pathetic.

Is that just the latest version's apk? I'll go that route but hopefully ESPN/Google fixes this, assuming it's thinking the device is a tablet or something.

Yep. Seems like it. Just watched a video on it.
Edit: It's probably a DPI thing. It will get sorted out soon.

Shows that its compatible here, I am on a custom dpi though. At 480 dpi right now.
never worked on any of my tablets. Pull it off another device and and install. Will work fine
I used the APK on both my N6 and N9. Working fine.
Watch ESPN works. I wonder if they have not updated scorecenter for android 5. Last update was 10/14

Have you noticed any issues using 480?
I thought it was an Android 5 issue. My N5, when updated to 5.0, didn't allow me to download it either.
I'll try changing DPI to see if it works.
I'm not 100% sure. My DPI is set to 493, and I can download it. But what I cannot download is the ESPN FC app.
My device is compatible for this app ..
This might not be a popular opinion, but if you can't download ScoreCenter, just download Yahoo Sports. Yahoo's app is a million times better than ESPN's. Trust me, I used to swear by ScoreCenter, but I heard a bunch of people on Twitter hyping up Yahoo's app. I finally gave it a try and was blown away. I don't even bother with ScoreCenter anymore.
Just use market helper to spoof your phone.

I think issue isn't android lolipop its the screen resolution that i is causing the issue I pulled apk using myappsharer from another phone I can post if anybody needs.
did they finally start using video clips that aren't from dial-up? that's the reason i uninstalled earlier this year.

No. It was never "compatible" with any tablet I've owned. I'm sure the issue is screen size
I've been finding a few solid apps that follow the Material Design theme and here are a few that I use

Notepad = Notes by Jacob Ras
SMS = Google Messenger
Unit converter = S Converter
File Manager = Material Manager or Lollipop File Manager
Gallery = QuickPic
su = SuperSu
wallpaper app = Wally
Forum/XDA = Tapatalk
RSS = Flyne
What do you guys use? I'm still looking for a better file manager (c'mon, Google!)

They left out a few cool things from the demo. Either it'll come in the next update or they just scrapped it.
Today Calendar Pro is, by far, my favorite material app.
anyone could post a pic of how much bloatware can be removed and also how much is installed? anyon disabled any or removed any? If so with what app? Mine will be here tomorrow
I used package disabler pro and was able to block everything i wanted (about 35 apps right now). I disabled the system updates first. Then the Verizon stuff. Then the traditional bloat. Then the samsung and google unwanted apps.
I used to disable apps to get better battery life, but i'm not sure it matters much on this device, as i can easily go 2 days in a poor service area. Since it's poor service, i only get about 4 hours of OST in those 2 days, but i'm sure i could get 6 in a single day.
A few I've disabled on all my phones.

What are those ANT apps for? I see you disabled both Chrome and the stock browers, which browser are you using? Thanks
Sent from my SM-T800 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
ANT (supposedly a universal method) allows developers to connect, monitor, and control ANT devices. These are wireless hardware such as health and fitness devices. However, even when disabled, I have no issue with my smart watches and any other NFC/Bluetooth gadget. As far as the browser, I use Adblock Browser, simply to reduce social footprint. I personally do not have a moral or ethical position against Google collecting my data; however, I was getting tired of junk e-mail. The Adblock Browser is clean, fast, and it blocks cookies and tracking codes.

Thank you very much for your reply. Now I have more stuff I can safely disable. Adblock sounds nice. I use Chrome. I have a love hate thing with it. I like that I can sync all of my computers and portable devices settings like bookmarks, etc. But it is a heavy handed resource hog.

I think it was because majority experiencing dropped frames when watching it. So probably got listed as being incompatible with 1440p+ HDR streams.
Work around would be to use Chrome:

Ever thought about trying OP YouTube? I've been enjoying it. Only thing I miss from the stock YouTube app is the option to expand the video to fit our display ratio but that's a small thing to miss.

For regular (non HDR) you still have that option. Try finding a HDR video and you are capped at 1080p. 2k/4k options are not available anymore in the app for HDR content.
Ok... I wasted hours on trying to fix this.
By coincidence it started when I started playing with the app resolution in Gamtuner.
I ended up wiping the whole phone - twice.
Second time without restoring any backup.
Downloaded latest APK from Aptoide in the end
Then consulted XDA
Always look up XDA first...
Btw. Search I the app to look only in the Note 8 thread... non existent or can't I just find it?
Looks like this is due to the 1440p 60fps issue with the Note 8. - 1080p 60fps works without dropped frames with Note 8, but Note 8 has been having problems with 1440p 60fps dropping frames. This is my believe why Google (YouTube) stopped supporting 1440p 60fps with the Note 8.
Google (YouTube) is still supporting 1440p at lower frames per second (30fps), when available, with the Galaxy Note 8.
Hopefully there will be a solution in the near future that Google (YouTube) can support 1440p 60fps with the Note 8.
Slightly off topic, is it normal for YouTube on mobile device to have some many adverts? I ask because I normally watch YouTube from chrome browser on a PC. Was shocked how the Note 8 YouTube app appears to be bloated with more adverts, some even appear every few minutes while watching a video.
