Nexus Launcher - Battery Drain? - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So my battery has been draining at an alarming rate lately, up to 20% an hour, even with the screen off. The only new app I've installed lately (besides BBS once the issue started) was the leaked Google Nexus Launcher a week or two ago. Has anyone else who installed it seen a change in their battery life? Or perhaps some other app that got updated recently and has been killing their battery too?

In settings - battery you can see what's draining the battery.

[Q] Battery life destroyed since 2.2.1 update?

Hi all
My non-rooted N1 is now suffering from poor battery life (hopefully will get to time it today but basically every morning it's dead) since upgrading to 2.2.1 OTA via O2 (UK).
Has anyone else seen this behaviour, or perhaps have a suggestion to diagnose/resolve? (not just standard battery optimisation stuff please).
Thanks
Mine seems about the same really.

Could be one of the apps you commonly use is having some issues with the new update and destroying your battery life.
You could try uninstalling a bunch of commonly run apps and see if that helps battery life.
Mine seems the same. Maybe your battery is old?
Just to be clear, battery was fine just before the update and now is awful. I've just taken it off charge to see how quickly it dies and i'll keep an eye on what's using the battery (if the about phone > battery stuff is accurate). Thanks
Okay so.. can't seem to do a screen shot (not rooted?) but here's what i've found so far..
From fully charged.. to 10% battery..
While last unplugged for 16h 3m 51s
Cell standby - 26%
Phone idle 24%
Display - 17%
Weather forecast - 7%
BatteryTime - 6%
wpa_supplicant - 6%
Wi-Fi - 6%
Android System - 5%
Android OS - 3%
Gmail - 2%

Does this look unusual to anyone? I'm sure in the past when i've checked this report the display was always the highest. I'm wondering if 2.2.1 update or an app is stopping the phone from sleeping or something?
Any advice welcome
Thanks
My favorite part is that the app Battery Time is responsible for 6% of your battery usage. Irony?
Also, your weather app is setup to sync too often if it's using 7%, IMHO.

You can check if any apps are keeping the phone up, get into the testing app (dial *#*#4636#*#* and go to Battery history.
In there, change other usage to Partial wage usage.
Thanks Rusty. Had a look under partial wake usage and the only thing showing up anything really is 'android system', with about 20% on the bar graph.

15-25% overnight battery drain versus 3-4%

According to the Battery thread in this forum, some people experience a high overnight battery drain, and some get a low one.
I am currently a member of the high club. For battery testing, I have most things turned off, like location services and google now. Last night overnight drain (8 hours) took the battery from 76% to 58%... 18%. On my previous phone, the HTC One, the overnight drain would be around 6%.
I am curious about the people who are getting low (~5%) overnight drains. Do they all have Wifi off? What is their secret?! Do tell.

Install better battery stats to monitor what's going on. I think the one night I left it off charge over night I lost maybe 6-8% but I slept for like 10+ hours. This is with google now on, gps on, wifi on.
What i'm testing now that I think will actually improve batt life is having wifi turn off when display is off (unless plugged in). I think I noticed less idle drain at home when I did this but it was temporary. Giving it a shot over a few days now.
I leave wifi on and I get less than 5% drain. Nothing syncs when my screen is off except notification weather pro every two hours and Yahoo weather

Personally I think the X and new droids have idle drain issues. Even when better battery stats shows nearly 100% deep sleep overnight, I still lose 8-10%. In comparison, on my HTC One mini, which is setup EXACTLY the same as my X in terms of installed apps, syncing accounts, running services, etc., I lose only 2-3% overnight. The number of people complaining about the issue seems to confirm it is more widespread than on other recent phones, as do the countless screenshots showing unusually high android OS usage in battery stats.

I honestly believe it will be patched with the Camera.
I'm having the same issue. People are reporting crazy battery stats with like 20+ hours of use 2+ hours of screen on and like 20% battery left. I get MAYBE 12 hours of use and 2 hours of screen on and 20-25% left. My mediaserver is keeping the phone awake for almost an hour+ each day, and without root I can't figure out how to stop it. I always have GPS/Google Now/Bluetooth off, too.
I thought the drain was related to Wifi. But last night WiFi was turned off for the night and I still got 18% battery drain in about 8 hours.
Wifi at home and overnight. I get about 5% drain... however, the wifi at work kills my phones battery with the wlan wakelock.
Maybe there is something going on with the X and certain wifi networks?

Interesting theory but my overnight idle drain was approximately the same on both LTE and WiFi. 10-15%.

How about turning off all radios (flight mode) and observe battery drain at night. Then turning wifi while on flight mode the next night and see the battery drain and so on until you can pin point what causes the most drain.

Unusual batter drain since last few days.

I have been using my Note 3 since early November 2013 and battery has been great all the time. In last 2-3 days, battery has been draining a lot faster. I have not installed any new apps which could cause this battery drain. I updated to kitkat 10 days ago though.
Yesterday: my battery only lasted for 7 hrs with only 40 mins of screen on time. Battery was drained by Android System (18%), Android OS (14%) Android Core apps (12%), Google Services (12%) and Screen (5%)
Today: GlanceViewMk (33%). Note that I always have Glance View enabled from day 1 and never had issues. Why is it draining 33% battery all of a sudden?
It's not draining 33% of your battery, it's responsible for 33% of as much as is being drained. If it's draining as much as it ever has, but a lot of other things are draining less, that app will drain a larger percentage. You always have 100% total drain - 100% of the amount being used is being used. But that could be 10% of the battery capacity.

[Q] Very poor battery

I just sideloaded 5.1 and I use Battery widget pro.
After 5.1 when I unplug my device this widget tells me I have 8 hours of battery left.
Even on 5.0 my battery seemed pretty poor but at least it would be at 12 to 14. I just don't get how it can be that bad.
Sometimes after turning it off then back on the battery level will adjust to something higher.
Is this possibly an app issue draining my battery? Anyone have any tips suggestions?
Best,
Ryan

Let it run for a day and see how much battery life you actually get. Maybe let it drain all the way out once and recharge it to 100%. I know when I ran custom ROMs on my Nexus devices, it would take a couple of days before the battery stats adjusted and displayed correct info. I once had a battery meter say 1% for about an hour before my phone died after switching to a new ROM.
How did it go? I noticed massive battery draining wakelocks on 5.1, related to phone and location. Without Xposed I don't know how to control them.
Cheers!

3%+ per hour drain on idle--how to detect problem app?

So my first Note 8 had draining problems which seemed to somehow fix itself with every other cycle. I replaced it with my current Note 8, which had really great battery life for a week. Yesterday, it started draining randomly at 3%++ on idle. I didn't download any new apps. I didn't change anything at all. According to GSAM, it just says it's from app usage, but I'm not using the phone and all apps are closed.
In Settings|Device Maintenance, you can find a list of apps that are draining the battery.
What does GSAM report for deep-sleep percentage?
Do you have AOD turned on? Many are reporting excessive battery drain from it.
I have found this useful on more than one occasion. It will give you deeper insight into what's going on, than the battery monitor in the phone.
https://www.xda-developers.com/stop-wakelocks-android-without-root/
Another vote to look at disabling AOD.
I checked my battery stats yesterday and it was the top consumer after 5 hours of work. I didn't use my phone much - there was about an hour of SOT, but the AOD seems to be taking way more than 1% an hour - more like 4-5% an hour in my case.
I do hope that they fix this issue in an update. I'd like to use AOD, but not at the expense of that much battery life per hour. I guess when they're testing their software, they don't test battery drain.
I wonder why the AOD draining more. I don't ever remember seeing AOD using battery on my S7E. I love the AOD but i have it set on a schedule. ifi leave it on all day it consumes 5-6% battery.
Chiming in to say AOD was the culprit for me as well. I was losing as much as 5% an hour on AOD. Just not optimized. I had it on all the time using my S8+ and it didn't drain more than 6% for a whole day which is something I can live with.
I don't have AoD turned on, but it's also not disabled. It's still active, but I can disable it with BK Disabler.

It doesn't list anything in particular that is draining it, which is why I'm having so much trouble finding out the issue. My old Note 8 would drain for 3% per hour and then after a charge or two, it would go back to normal. This time, it hasn't reverted back to normal yet.
For deep sleep and light sleep, they're both around 40-something percent.
