I have exactly the same situation. Let us know how you get on. In particular: do you still have 4G for both SIM slots, and do you get the IMEI problem.

What do you mean with "foolish play with root permissions" ? Did you root your phone with one of these suspicious tools ?
In this case it could be bricked.
I had unlock bootloader, rooted my moto g 2014,flash twrp latest version, flash more tha10 roms , I want to check the permissions in root folder, unknowingly change some permissions ,but I can't remember what I'd done.then no sim, after reading in xda I triedto flash my firmwarenow, but everything work fine except no sim cards.no mobile network.WiFi working.I love this phone .I think the files for sim card connectivity will be the answer, but I don't know what files/folders?
Flash 1068 modem files
Sent from my Moto G
I'd tried that also but no benefit , but I will try again today, any other choices?

Flash the full stock firmware and modem files
Sent from my Moto G
Simcard still not recognized, after flash firmware and modem.but *#*#4636#*#* shows no sim but radio bands of UK and US present which were not present previously, but not able to select anything.
I got my simcard recognized after repeat flashing of stock firmware. Thank you

A few days ago, I got an update for my Samsung Note 5 (SM-N920V) which is currently running Nougat, from Verizon Software Upgrade Assistant. I tried to run the update from my laptop and the update failed. I tried to run the repair and the repair failed. The error my phone was showing was "Secure Check Fail (Radio)." My device was bricked. I tried using Kies and SmartSwitch, but still get Secure Check Fail (Radio). I tried using ODIN, but still the error would show "Secure Check Fail (Radio)" at the end of the download. After using ODIN to download just the PIT file, it's working again, but I have in the settings "Service Provider: KT twophone service" and only have CDMA option for mobile networks (no APN settings). I was previously using this on a GSM network (not one of the big names).
Does anyone know what the "Secure Check Fail (Radio)" means?
Or how to get GSM access back on the phone?
(I am not trying to root the phone, I just want the stock Verizon version back!!)

I don't have this device but, your best bet is to post this question within the following Q&A thread that's specific to your device.

Hello everyone , i recently got an unlocked AT&T Note 9 and i have yet to get the Pie update , i currently live in Europe and i was wondering if my location is preventing me from getting the update . Last security update this phone got is the November 1st security update .
Baseband version is : N960USQ1ARJA
I also tried to manually flash the Pie update from firmware.science but while i was on recovery mode and tried update from SD card it kept showing "could not mount SD" even though SD card is readable on my phone , i haven' tried to flash via odin because i wanted your thoughts first , any help would really be appreciated
Thanks in advance

A few years ago,I had the same issue (using an unlocked AT&T phone on another network) & I had to get a cheap prepaid AT&T SIM to get the OTA update pushed to my phones (Note & LG G Flex2).
I had heard this wasn't the case anymore, but,I found this post from an AT&T forum & it still seems to be the case:
https://forums.att.com/t5/Samsung/A...date-when-not-on-AT-amp-T/td-p/5591432#M38714
You might as well use Odin,it won't hurt a thing, you'll still have Knox intact/etc.........

Have you tried updating via Samsung's Smart Switch PC Tool? (Corresponding app needs to be installed on your phone as well)

Sounds like Odin is your best bet to get on the latest update. Here's the AT&T specific thread that has links to the AT&T firmware & patched Odin.

Hello everyone, I am new to all of this development stuff for Android devices and I know I screwed something up big time.
I had an update recently on my Moto G6 XT1925-6 phone to Pie and there were several bugs happening from calls dropping, data and service dropping erratically, youtube videos would skip forward several times or not download at all. I found the post on here to downgrade from Pie to Oreo Stock ROM and followed it exactly as I could. Everything went according to the guide, but now after rebooting the phone and going through the setup, the phone wont detect my SIM, and there is no service. Under the IMEI Information, everything is 'Unknown' and under SIM status everything says 'Not Available'. Also, under Mobile Network, Data Roaming, Preferred network type, and System select is greyed out. CDMA subscription is the only thing available to tap. The issue with that is, this phone is originally GSM.
Please, I am not knowledgeable in messing with Android systems and I know I shouldn't be messing with something I know nothing about. I do have ADB Minimum installed on my PC, the phone is unlocked bootloader but is currently not rooted after the stock ROM was flashed.
Stock ROM: ALI_RETAIL_8.0.0_OPSS27.104-92-4-5-1_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC.xml
One more thing to add, I did the fastboot IMEI check command and it came back with one IMEI so it is still present in the phone somewhere.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

First, thank you for your reply and help in this matter!
After the update from the phone itself, it said it was Android Pie v9.0.0. I don't know anything further than that on which version of Pie if there are several.
When I attempted to flash the bootloader and the gpt.bin during the steps on the forum guide, adb gave me the 'couldn't open' and the 'Failed' result for those two things. Reading one of the replies to this guide, someone stated that they didn't flash either of those and it worked perfectly.

I have successfully downgraded from Pie PPSS29.55-24-2 to Oreo without flashing those files but today when I flashed the newest Pie PPS29.118-11-1, I got these results.
Only solution was to reflash the latest Pie. If you took the OTA update as it appears you did you are most likely in the same boat I'm in stuck on the latest Pie.

Okay, thank you for the information. Unfortunately I will have to reupdate to P.O.S. Pie. Could you point me to the correct version of Pie that will work? It was the OTA update to PIE that I did so if you could let me know which one you labeled would work, then I can get started. Maybe point me to a guide if you know of one to do it properly.
Thanks a million!

I can't tell you exactly which firmware to download, but It looks like you are using the Retail version by your post mentioning "Stock ROM: ALI_RETAIL_8.0.0_OPSS27.104-92-4-5-1_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC.xml". If so I would flash this one.
As for a guide some people use RSD lite but I prefer this method.
download the attachment and extract it
extract the firmware to the folder Place_Extracted_Firmware_Here.
double click 2-rsd-flash-flashfile-windows.bat, this will create a file called flashfile.bat (It will Wipe your data).
boot your phone to bootloader, connect it to pc.
double click the flashfile.bat and let it run
reboot
hope this helps
