Ok I know its standard tv not the HDMI but the videos I saw on YouTube, the playing movie looked so awesome but on my display (LG 23" LCD TV) 720p videos looks ugly and not evrn full screen ... Can anybody have idea how to play videos in full screen mode on tv?
Overall it's a great phone though

For full screen make sure your video player is in the right mode (I use Zimly which has 3 different display modes). Also your LCD may have different options for keeping aspect ration, etc... look to see if it has an 'auto adjust' option.
I love being able to just carry a small cable and be able to watch on the big screen whenever I'm in a hotel, etc..
Ah i see. I'll try different video players. Thanks

[Q] HDMI 1080p for Photos

I currently have CM7 installed, and the HDMI mirroring works great. But when I view photos, the resolution is not 1080p, it's the resolution of the screen. Is this possible to view photos at 1080p resolution over HDMI on CM7 or stock ROM?
This is the main problem of this STUPID hdmi out. It's only mirroring. that means the resolution of the screen is the ONLY resolution in OUTPUT.
then the 800x480 resolution is upscaled.
Viewwing photos or video we had the same problem: also video in full hd that this phone can play smoothly, BUT the hdmi out is ONLY 800x480...so...it's useless that this phone can decode full-hd video....
When watching video over HDMI is look better than 800x480?
When I record an HD video on my phone, the play it via HDMI out, it seems to be full HD. I was hoping there was a way to do that for photos... I guess not. Perhaps it can be a feature in CM7 or something.
just last sunday i was watching 1080P on friends TV. no problems!
Or you think you did.
Everything is downscaled to phones screen resolution (480x800) and then on HDMI out stretched to 1080p just so that our TV's don't have problems with it. That's why it is not pure 1080p, and that's why it doesn't really make sense to force HD videos on phones.
Use PC, media players or anything else HD capable instead.

No. True for photos displayed on the phone, yes, but not for video. When playing video (at least with the stock player) it no longer does mirroring, it outputs a true hd-image.

Well that's an improvement then. Good news, for some people.
HDMI was for me one of biggest advantages O2x had few months ago, and now I find it almost useless. Yes, it's there and it totally works, I bought the cable and HDMI coupler so I can extend it with another one - but never really use it. Photos were always too blurry to care (when displayed on TV, camera is decent), videos are not so practical even though they work better than I expected, some using stock player and some using MX Video Player.
I have PC connected to TV, Picasa, media server, and PS3 which work far better. Oh well. Still, phone makes a damned good remote controller
It's not an improvement. It's been that way since the phone was released.
Still its a pain in the ass that it won't work with photos.

your information is wrong, it outputs in full hd.
If it were outputting at just 800by400 on your hd tv you would bloody notice because it would be pixelated and difficult to make anything out if it had been stretched that far to fit a large tv..... .
OMG seriously, really?
My post was already debunked by TrymHansen. Try to write something useful, ok? Quoting it again is just counterproductive
Anyway, part about HD video is debunked, I was wrong and life goes on. But I still stand behind blurry low-res photo gallery and that is the topic here.

I'm totally with you at this. I can not help the fact that most of the people are blind and can not recognise the quality and resolution of a picture or video.
The hdmi output for the photos are totally unusable, it displays the photos in low resolution and low color depth.

Pixel Aspect Ratio

MP4's on the Galaxy S encoded using Handbrake and MP4 aren't respecting the Pixel Aspect Ratio.
Meanwhile MKV's on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 don't respect the Pixel Aspect Ratio.
In otherwords, they only see the size of the actual video frame and not the intended frame.
That seems a little naff.
Thoughts?
Im using Strict anamorphic mode in Handbrake to keep vertical resolution.
Guess I'll have to change to none.

Netflix aspect ratio

I've been watching Torchwood, and the first eight episodes were all excellent quality. It's available in many countries I believe, but my Unblock-Us happened to be set to USA when I watched it.
Anyway, season 1 episode 9, entitled "Random Shoes", played inexplicably in a 4:3 format on my HDTV with black bars on either side. The picture was not distorted or anything so it was clearly pan-and-scan type source material. I have double checked - in Firefox on my desktop I get the same too. However if I play it on my Nexus 7 it does give me a proper 16:9 aspect ratio. The moment I push it to Chromecast though I get 4:3 again on TV. Episodes 8 and 10 are 16:9 on all devices.
I wonder if this is just a glitch with Netflix's servers then? Maybe there are some sporadic episodes here & there where it serves up the wrong media on certain devices.
Interestingly, when I switched Unblock-Us to UK, this episode played in nice crisp 16:9 HD again. I also noticed that on the US site I can add closed captions to Torchwood (really helpful when I can't understand heavy accents speaking softly against background music), but on the UK site I cannot.
It's an issue at Netflix..
I have had the same issue when watching "Dead Like Me". Some episodes player properly and then a few played incorrectly.

Netflix issue, not Chromecast. I came across this thread when Random Shoes randomly played in 4:3 on my LG Blu-Ray player.
Yeah, I'm finding that some of the Netflix titles are encoded improperly...
Does anyone know if there's a way to report an issue with a video to Netflix?
I'm new to Netflix and I looked around but maybe I missed something obvious.
They actually take phone calls. I phoned in to report terrible subtitles for "Arrow".

Youtube issues

I have been trying to watch vr videos in YouTube in the Samsung internet app. 2d and 2d 360 videos work fine.
If I try to watch a 3d video, there are all. Sorts of problems. The stereoscopic image is way off, and usually there is a black pop out video window on top of the video. Anyone else experienced this?

Yeah, I'm experiencing it as well. Odd thing is, it works on some videos, just not all videos. It's like the aspect of the sbs frames is too wide on some and the algorithm for stitching the image is compensating. It's also very painful to watch the broken 3d content, instant headache. Hopefully youtube will come out with an official app that will adjust it.

Yea I've resorted to using the cardboardforgearvr app and just using the YouTube app. That works a lot better but there isn't a way to browse for videos with the headset on.
