Manual camera settings query - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im on the new MM update 23.5.A.1.291
If I go into Camera and select resolution 15.5MP (16:9) Im unable to select any of the SCN stuff (Landscape, Night Scene, Beach, Snow etc)
Is this a bug or something the phone can't handle at that high res?

[Q] Xperia T Camera Resolution

According to the specs the Xperia T has a 13 megapixel Camera
When I first got this phone the settings for the camera let you select 13mp as the highest resolution setting
A couple of days ago my phone updated itself to jelly bean and now the highest resolution I can select in the camera settings now says 12mp
Does anyone know what the deal is here did they typo and it is actually 13mp as advertised or have they crippled the camera with this update?
its 12mp probably because you using superior mode..try change to normal mode, it suppose change to 13mp..
thanks for that
I don't even know what that superior mode is, did it get added with the update?

Yes it did. As far as I know "superior auto mode" is supposed to automatically select the "scene" mode among the options it offered you beofre, and because it may activate HDR, which is limited to 12 Mpixels, that's why it shows the reduced resolution.

[Q] Camera problem

I just noticed my camera issue and the problem is that in the day time, My camera quality is really awesome no doubt...!!! even the front camera is awesome..however in the night, the camera is dull, when I click images, some whiteness on the edges comes and it's not at all clear images..!!
Is this issue with my phone or with everyone??
most of the people have the same issue , however with the latest firmware people are saying the night / low light camera quality has improved.
i havent tried it personally but if you search around most of the people will agree

I feel that the hardware is not to be blamed here...
The software here is at fault..
The superior auto mode is not so superior in its job(it's ok if you want to capture something real-quick)... But if you want the best from the hardware you'll have to turn to manual controls...(Camera FV-5 is the best app I know for that)
Jpeg compression is just too much here...thus we can see the lack of detail in some photos(macro)
To get the best of the camera,My suggestions are as follows :-
If you like the stock camera app... 1)Turn off superior auto mode... Switch to manual mode
2) set the ISO at 200 (max) for daylight photography,,,,400 for twilight
3) HDR off
4) metering mode set to average
And if you still want better results:
1) install Camera FV-5 (full version support developer )
2) go to settings -> photo encoding settings -> file format -> set it to PNG ( it takes some seriously huge pics (15 mb..:-o) )
3) now apply all the manual controls mentioned above
If you think what difference does the above methods do to the quality of the photos... Take a photo with normal method (superior auto) and then manual method... And then compare..
If you feel that I've helped you in anyway, please hit the thank button

The lower the ISO, the more detailed the images. That's the main factor for more detailed images.
You can only change ISO settings in Manual mode, that's why I barely use Superior Auto mode.
Take a look at these pictures of mine:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/sets/72157641512651095/
Almost (if not) all of these pictures I've taken in Manual mode, 20.7 megapixels, with ISO set to 50 (and changing the White Balance accordingly as well - the Xperia Z1 gets auto white balance wrong most of the time). Mind you that this low ISO only works in well lit situations and you need to keep your device steady. As for shooting macro: the Z1 isn't worse than the competition. You can get close enough for most close up images. True macro photography can only be done by attaching a macro lens to the device (they're pretty cheap online).
If you have more questions, please do ask :cyclops:
EDIT: if you want closer-up pictures, try setting the ISO to 50 and zooming in digitally. You'll be able to get pretty sharp 8 megapixel images for example, zooming in just a little bit. This is what I did in my Flickr album as well, mostly with the Lego figure.

The last few pictures in my Flickr album have been photoshopped to my liking, yes. But more than half aren't. Especially the ones with the Lego figure are straight off the camera. Check the picture description to be sure though: sometimes I wrote whether or not I edited them before uploading. And some have a Flickr filter (from the Android app) as well.
Funny thing is: most of the Lego figure pictures are digitally zoomed in, as far as Sony likes to call "lossless digital zoom". I really cannot even tell which is and which isn't :silly:
If weak colours are an issue, make sure you set the white balance correctly. I'm assuming you mean that images don't look correctly saturated? This is what I notice in superior auto mode as well, where white balance is done automatically.
The Sony Xperia Z1 has a horrible automatic white balance. If you can, really do set it manually. I rarely take pictures with Auto White Balance anymore.
In short:
If you just keep the ISO as low as possible and you set the white balance correctly, your pictures will suddenly look a lot better!
(Try to keep the ISO at 50 unless images turn black or really dark. You'll have to experiment which ISO is the lowest where you still get bright enough shots)
Hmm, I should start a Photography Guide for the Xperia Z1...

Are you asking how to set the White Balance?
Well, there are a couple of icons indicating lighting circumstances. Try for yourself which is the most accurate to real life.
Obviously the sun is for sunny weather, and the cloud is for cloudy weather. It's not that difficult, really.
Just saw it and was messing around. There is a wb auto there I notice. That must be the white balance lol.
I never had any camera interest, and only recently I bothered with these because of the z1

No burst and time-lapse photo mode?

Why is there no burst or time-lapse photo mode?
Time-lapse workaround: The app Intervalometer hijacks the stock camera app and simulates touching the shutter buttons, so you get a programmable time-lapse in all modes, Raw, Night-mode, all the 3 cameras. Probably better than Huawei could ever make it.
As for burst mode: its there if you set the resolution to 10MP or lower, no burst mode for 40MP or with raw files.
Time lapse mode can be found on the last page of the camera options where slow motion , monochrome , moving picture is. To take pictures in burst mode you just press the camera button and it will take pictures in burst mode untill you release it.

No that's a crappy low-res time-lapse video, I'm talking about photos.
Found the burst mode though it has its limitations, that aren't mentioned (how should the user know). They only work in Photo Mode and only if you set the resolution to 10MP or less.

Go in play store, ans download Framelaps application. It is very good. You have so much options. It is taking photos and you can make 4K video, not 720p like in original camera application. Too bad for Huawei that's is not so hard to do.
Only bad thing with Framelaps you cant you Suoer Wide Angle.
Probably can't do a lot of things, like the correct colors for the new sensor. And yes, kind of want that for the ultra wide.

Yes I know but it helps more the p30 pro software camera (stupid 720p).
If you have DJI Osmo 2 you have good application for timelaps. But still no super wide-angle
Timelapse with the original camera app in high quality
Framelapse is not bad, but as mentioned, you can't use wide angle lens nor the quality of the original app. Solution:
Use "intervalometer"! This app is working together with any other camera app. It works as an overlay, means, it's running background and given impulse to the camera button with any desired interval while using the camera settings in the original camera app. You can not only use any interval with any resolution (40mp too) but choose a delay when shooting from day to night. The app costs here in Germany 1,89 €.
Grab a copy of Intervalometer from the Google Play store, then you can shoot your own timelapses with whatever camera application you want. That's what i do and it works great!
/ Magnus
With just one camera and no chance to select the other two, probably wrong colors and no raw files support, useless.
EDIT: Oh wait, this thing is actually useful, its no camera app instead it hijacks what ever is on the screen and simulates a touch in the timed intervall.
So it remote controls the manufactures app with whatever is set there.
Nice. Sorry I dismissed it so fast, I was just expecting another dumb comment but this is really useful.
Exactly, it is one of the best applications i have found on the Google Play store and for this purpose it's fantastic! you can shoot RAW timelapse sequences if you want to, the possibilities are infinite since it's not relying on it's own camera but let's you use any camera application you want. It's worth paying for it since it does such a great job with timelapse photography.
/ Magnus
Ok, the best timelaps is INTERVALOMETAR.
You can use every mode, normal, super wide angle, HDR, Night mode, zoom and etc...

Any GCAM port for SONY Xperia 1 Mark ii?

Ive tried multiple GCAM port from, BSG, Shamim, LMC, Arnova etc... Some of them crashed instantly, some of them made it up to video mode and seemed to work just fine with the video mode. But couldn't sustain in photo mode.
Only working version i found is quite old BSG 8.1 but that also seemed pretty laggy, is there anyone who uses gcam for this specific model!
Video moder working model: SGCAM 8.4 V43
I will truly be grateful to you for your assist.
Install AGC8.4.300_V9.5.apk .. now long tap on cam icon (the yellow one) .. then open settings .. and copy these settings as you see
Disable the settings as I show them to have very smooth viewfinder
I prefer not to use the automatic AWB, with the settings I wrote to you, you should be able to take excellent photos both with the automatic AWB (coldest photos) and without the automatic AWB (photos with more natural colors)
Only the main camera works, the night mode does not work, the videos also work at 4k 60fps (also in slowmo)

you should try it yourself, it depends on the situations, I find a more accurate and natural hdr in backlit situations that are not easy
I find more marked details (sharpness)
if set as I wrote, I don't experience lag, crash or anything else
