how to enable FULL-auto update play store apps, including manually-updated apps?

i've been searching around for answers. there are a lot of questions similar to mine, yet no one conclusive and simple answer.
i want to achieve two things :
1. for those with auto updates, i want them to just install directly without me having to click update at all.
2. for those that require manual update, why can't they install automatically even though i've already checked "enable auto updates"? I want these to be automatically available too.
some might say i would want to review the changes before updating it. for my case, i don't really case - i prefer to stick to the latest version, even if there's bugs/new quirks etc.

somehow it doesn't work for certain apps even if i check auto-update. for instance, ASTRO file manager always gets updated manually instead of auto.
any idea what's happening?

Apps require a manual upgrade if their permissions change so requiring hitting accept is security related. (At least this is my understanding, feel free to correct me)

there is another app-specific option for disabling auto update. It means, even when auto updates are enabled, they will ask for permission! This helps not updating big games! To check that, go to the app on play store, hit the menu (hardware touch), check if Auto update is ticked! :good:

Yes that's correct. The manuel update is needed for new permissions and for the apps you have install through a explorer

MotoG 2nd Gen XT1068 OS issues

Hello,
My phone (out of warrenty) was dropped in water, so had to change some hardware outside. After which I kept getting play store errors. Many apps would also throw random errors, even after doing factory reset. So I thought may be ROM too need to be flashed due to new hardware. I searched for the Stock ROM (Kitkat 4.4.4) and found one (phone shows 21.11.27.titan.retaildsds.retaildsdsall.en.03retin). I flashed it (I just had to run a file on fastboot mode - Auto Restore Script.bat). After that I havent been able to install apps through play store. It keeps popping error 495. I can install a few apps at random, but not everything. I did the whole process at least 3-4 times again, changed wifi connection etc. No luck. Any help here?
PS: I am totally a new person to all android related stuff, but ready to learn if right instructions are given. Thanks.

The end scene is that everything is working on my phone. But it took a lot of time to make it happen. After installing gapps, I continuously got google play services error. The same play store problem persisted too. But this time something different happened. After 2-3 attempts at downloading one app, i got it to donwload. Also updated google play services somehow. It was frustrating though as for every app download I had to try multiple times. Surprisingly amazon appstore downloads were successful. So I also used that to download the ones available there. But I am happy now that my phone works perfectly with all the apps that I need up to date . I am feeling so happy about it, as this was my first stint at android troubleshooting as a total novice
However I still think I will run into the same play store problem whenver I would try to update any app, so I think I will use your patch anyway. Thanks

Try this:
Settings > Apps > swipe until you see category "all"
Search for "Google Play Store" and clear data.
Search for "Googe Services Framework" and clear data.
Now open the play store and try to install something.
If you still get 495 go to Settings > Accounts and delete your Google account. Restart phone and add your Google account. Should be fixed.

I had tried ALL the suggestion on the internet for 495, nothing worked. Even flashing multiple versions of systems dint work. Still get 495 at times with the 5.0.2, but works when i try multiple times. I also tried different wifi connection, no luck there too

Yesterday morning (08/04/2016) I have tested some applications from the PlayStore.
Now I have the following problem: After some time (usually shortly after unlock) pops up a graph. This can only be removed by clicking and starts (originally) the PlayStore. Meanwhile it tries to launch a browser, which you can then cancel. This one I should install (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.quick.clean).
Well I tried to track down the malicious software. But the virus scanner offered can not really help here. Supposedly there is a PUA - a Potentially Unwanted App. (Android Ewind (Adware)

Ok this can sound nooby but have you checked under settings>apps (all, running and downloaded section) for some apps that you downloaded on that day. Try uninstalling them if they are present. Many apps ask you to make them device administrator and refuse to uninstall. Check under Settings>security>device administrators for apps that shouldn't be given this much privilege (android device manager, greenify etc. are fine but a live wallpaper or a game is not). Check Settings>accessibility. Under services section, uncheck any suspicious apps (you can disable all of them, then enable them one by one to detect which is causing it).
And for the last, if you have developer settings turned on you can check process stats too.

I used ccswe app to debloat apps and close unnecessary apps to preserve battery on my note 10 plus. Is there an alternative for that app for the pixel 4xl?
Adb commands are absolutely too complicated and I use a Mac so that combo isn't ideal. If anyone knows of a simple alternative, suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I honestly don't know what there is to debloat on a pixel. Anything you don't want can easily be disabled. No extra apps are necessary. Sure Samsung needs the extra apps for that but pixels...no way.

Fair enough, however I've disabled all I could manually yet even the disabled apps when updated show up on my applications so I have to re-disable them again. So I'm hoping there's an app that can permanently disable apps regardless of updating them. Also I'd like to disable certain services with guarantee and the CCSwe app for some reason provided reassurance when disabling apps and Services. Which is why I'm looking to debloat a bit more

YouTube music for example or pixel live wallpapers. I want them disabled so that when an update arrives at the Play store I can update them freely without them being automatically re-inabled. This is totally doable on my note 10 plus. So I'm curious if there's a way to do it on pixel. Or even Google auto. I'm legally blind and not allowed to drive so that app is useless for me.

I actually have them disabled and I don't get updates from the playstore unless I re-enable them. I've noticed upon clean flash when I disable apps they do an automatic update and re-enable themselves, but when I clear the data and disable they stay disabled and no updates come through. You don't need extra apps to disable anything in a pixel. Save yourself the headache man.

thanks for the advice man I really appreciate it maybe I just might save myself the headache. What did you do the clear the data? Cuz I manually restricted its background usage prevented it from using data in the background cleared cache and cleared storage before force closing the app and then disabling. Am o missing anything? Cuz those specific disabled apps still show up as updates on my play store. Which is what I'm trying to remove. If I update them they will just re-install.

I have Chrome disabled because I use Chrome Beta and it never asks me to update. As you can see, update isn't an option in the Play Store. Maybe try disabling all the apps you want, restart, and check the Play Store?

i have been searching for a response to this very question too , only google apps on my phone that i want are google photos, notes, drive and gmail , hopefully someone with more experience will be able to provide a solution to actually removing the unwanted google apps instead of just disabling them

If they are system apps, then you will have to root to remove them. If they aren't system apps, then you should have the option to uninstall them.
If they are system apps and you don't want to root, then your only option is to disable them. No app is going to be able to remove them without root privileges.

The system can't be modified so the apps can't be removed even if you're rooted.

If you are rooted, you can install the Debloater Magisk module (support thread - https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/module-terminal-debloater-debloat-t3584163)
This still works under Android 10. I just now uninstalled the Chrome app using the module (on my Pixel 3a XL on the November security update).
After installing the module using the Magisk Manager App, here are the steps to remove a system app:
1) Open a terminal app and type "su" to get root privileges.
2) Type "debloat"
3) Most likely you need to choose menu option "4 - System Process App", but if you don't see the desired app listed under this selection, try some of the other menu selections.
4 ) If the app you want to uninstall is listed, simply type in the number of the app you want to uninstall.
5) Confirm that you want to uninstall the app
6) After the process finishes, reboot the phone .
That should really uninstall the system app - even under Android 10's new file system.
Edit - here is a screen shot of the Play store showing that Chrome isn't installed and can be installed. Edit 2 - for some reason the image doesn't show, but you can click on it to be taken directly to imgur to see it.

The tip / advice I really do appreciate it. However I am not rooted sadly and seems to me that in order to get the most out of my 4XL, sadly I'll need to root my device.
Unfortunately routing seems exponentially tedious and I don't want to have to constantly flash my device per every update. Plus if I root I wouldn't be getting any updates as scheduled. I love to maximize the full potential ofmy device but I'm not familiar with routing and I have the impression that once my device is rooted, it's not a one and done deal I'm always going to have to flash ROMs constantly which seems like an exponential amount of extra work. Which sucks ?

Well if you just want to root to remove bloat, then you don't need to worry about retaining root when taking updates. Just go back to taking updates normally without all the extra work. You'll lose root, but that won't bring back the apps you removed. They will be permanently removed.
(However, never re-lock your bootloader without going back to 100% stock - which would bring back the bloat - because you can brick your phone if there are issues moving forward).

thank you for the advice I really appreciate it. Man there is a lot of benefits with rooting specifically with the custom g cam app that allows up to 20 x zoom and the viper4android mod on top of other modifications like theming and substratum. it would be ideal for me to use any and all of those I would love to get the maximum potential of my pixel 4 XL specifically for the camera but it seems like a lot of legwork. I'm tempted to just pay somebody to route it bearing that they could do it successfully but it seems like routing isn't as easy either. But thank you for the suggestion I appreciate it. I'll just be patient and trust that my disabling of those apps have permanently disabled them.

Disabling apps does seem to work as expected. I had disabled Chrome for months now (because I use Brave) and it never "activated" itself or showed up in the app drawer, etc. However, it was nice to be able to permanently remove it using Debloater.
As far as rooting....... it really isn't that hard. I have created a detailed walk though on how to root on the Pixel 3a forum - but the steps are exactly the same for the Pixel 4s. It not only gives instructions on how to root, but also on how to take updates in the future as well. What does disabling the system tracing do? And what do you disable in it? Trace debuggable applications?

A couple of days ago my S21 Ultra running G998BXXS5CVIF automatically opened an "Access denied" screen. It was impossible to show which app cause it as it disappeared once you got to the app switcher menu.

I could force the screen by rebooting or by changing the device's language. Using:

via adb showed it was com.android.samsung.dkey which opened an activity of com.samsung.android.carkey (com.samsung.android.dkey/com.samsung.android.carkey.ccc.ui.IntegrityCheckFailDialogActivity)
Apparently there was a Samsung Wallet Digital Key update (probably v1.0.08.11) which causes it after a reboot as well as randomly every couple of hours. Disabling "Appear on top" for Samsung Wallet Digital Key fixed it for me.
Uninstalling the update isn't a good permanent solution and you can't disable the app without root (meaning you probably don't want to disable it as it maybe could cause other issues). It can affect any device that has a tripped Know. Even formerly rooted devices running stock with a locked bootloader.

Had this error on my rooted S21 Ultra as well, i went back to stock but this error appeared. Thanks to this thread i solved it. But you can delet it without root.
Thers an Windows App called ADB AppControl. there you can simply uninstall Samsung Wallet Key app.
You are unable to use it, so delete it. Nitification never appeared again

You actually can fix it without root: "appear on top" can be toggled which fixes the problem. No need to disable or uninstall it. I tend to not deactivate or remove apps that are non-user removeable as I had bad experiences with spammed logs and high CPU usage due to Java errors

You can fix it by removing Digital Key app from system/priv-app folder. If you're rooted of course.

Yes, but just disabling "Show on top" is easier and safer. From my past experience speaking: removing system apps that often talk to each other and require certain frameworks inside apps, it may lead to permanent log spam and high CPU usage due to dozens of system calls that go unanswered.
The stock system often isn't designed for core apps being missing. That's why disabling apps is imho better as it hides apps from the system but still allows other apps to use their existing frameworks.
The benefits of "removing" apps e. g. via debloating with Magisk is not worth the issues that could arise. It's especially not worth it if the solution is to not let the app show that message at all

I'm on stock, but I have rooted my phone before so my Knox is tripped. I got this message every time I tried to do anything Samsung-software related. It was worst when trying to use my camera, popping up all the time.

You can follow the instructions without being rooted. Disabling "Appear on top" for Samsung Wallet Digital Key fixes it.

I just rooted my newly bought Note 20 Ultra 5G today, this message kept popping up. Actually, it started happening as soon as I unlocked the bootloader, even before rooting. It seems that just doing that is enough to trigger it. And no matter what you're doing, it will hijack it to show this message. It was driving me crazy for a few hours until I found this thread. Disabling "appear on top" works 100%. But in a few days it won't matter anymore, I'll be moving to an open source GSI ROM. Then I won't have to deal with messages like this spamming the crap out of the phone.
Samsung just needs to f off, at least we're still buying their devices. They're ours, we should be able to use them how we want. The bastards already have our money, yet they still want to do things like this to us.

@omarknopfler and @ShootinStarz: Install App Inspector. Search for "dkey" or "carkey", without the quotes. Open the settings cog icon for each one, disable appear over apps permission....DONE.
