BubbleUPnP Update

What happened? I decided to try to play video content with the one video that I had no problem. On my Samsung TV got a popup stating that a AllShare device was detected, I click okay, video plays in like a player window format, I back out to folders from my tablet showing! My source shows AllShare BubbleUPnP device. Confused but happier!

The new Koushcast? No, I read that Chromecast support was removed.
I think I know what happened. I have a Samsung WiFi adapter plugged in but have used it on a old laptop and it was plugged into USB port that might be a service port or whatever. I discovered that since using AllCast and never tried it again since. BubbleUpnP is just using WiFi to stream although I couldn't get back to my folder with the videos unless I used AllCast to start a video.
I've tried BubbleUPnP in the past but remember next to nothing! Navigating folders on the TV is a PITA, I do remember that.
The author of BubbleUPnP did mention supporting Chromecast in the future. At first I thought that they did, my mistake. Make that two mistakes!
I powered down/up, I was able to play compatible videos with the Chromecast that start with a good delay without using BubbleUPnP just AllCast. Videos that don't play with Chromecast from an Android device won't play using Chrome on a PC either nor cast.
Compatible videos is the key to success.

Interesting! I was hoping you had magically solved Android screen mirroring with Chromecast - my TV is too old to support DLNA video, only pictures and music.

I may have had my Samsung WiFi adapter plugged into the right USB port after all! I tried to access my PC from the TV and I had no connection because the setup was changed from a wireless connection back to wired again. This means that the use of BubbleUPnP, Allcast or Chromecast hoses the setup. I tried to use each one but couldn't get it to repeat. Some TVs comes with WiFi built in, I wonder if this is a issue with them or just because in my case, I was using an external WiFi adapter?
BubbleUPnP updated for the second time today, must have introduced a bug earlier.

Chromecast has its own wireless connection to your wireless router or access point, so I can't think of a reason why Chromecast would have any interaction with the TV's network connection.
Am I following you correctly that you have a wired network connection on your TV and the wireless USB adapter connected to your TV, and both are connected? If the wired connection on the TV is hooked up there should be no need to have the WiFi adapter as well, unless you have a really complicated network setup.
As long as both the TV and your DLNA source are on the same network, doesn't matter whether one is wired or the other is wireless. Unless something like AP isolation keeps the wireless clients from "seeing" the wired clients (uncommon), or the wired and wireless networks are on different subnets (rare).
tl;dr - try unplugging either your TV's WiFi adapter or the network cable on the TV. Do whatever is necessary to make the single connection work - and then try everything else. Everything should work.

Yes the Chrome cast has its own WiFi connection.
I have either the wired or wireless option but there is no wired connection to it that's why I had to get the Samsung WiFi adapter.
I was able to switch back/forth several times between DLNA(BubbleUPnP), TV WiFi and Allcast without losing any of them. I have no idea how or why but it did happen "once" or actually "twice".

Ahh okay, I misunderstood. I thought your TV had a wired connection too.
It's possible the Chromecast and Samsung WiFi adapter are too close and therefore causing signal interference, so the Samsung WiFi adapter might have went back into a disconnected mode and the TV wanted it set up again. *shrug*
Worst case you could get a USB or HDMI extension cable, I guess. I have a ~10-foot HDMI extension cable on my Chromecast because it's connected to my sound bar's I/O box. At first it was to troubleshoot the Internet connectivity problems I was having (which were fixed with update to 13300), then I decide to leave it as it's much more convenient to access my Chromecast when I don't have to contort myself behind stuff, heh.

Just got my HDMI 90 adapter today, see what happens next to me?
The Samsung adapter is no cheapy from what I've read about it. No PC drivers for it but I researched its chip and managed to hack a INF for use on my old XP laptop, IIRC it comes up as a Linksys device.

I think the root problem here is that Chromecast and the phone both need to be connected to the same access point... of which you probably don't have running in your car. Maybe it would work with one of those wifi hotspots if the hotspot allows attached devices to see eachother.... likely wouldn't be fast though

well it won't use a lot of data (or shouldn't) because all it would be using the internet for is to load the receiver app.
Not sure Mirroring works on a phone in wireless hotspot mode. If you had two phones one for the Hotspot and another for the mirror it might work.
And Do a search here because some have had some luck using the CCast while in Hotspot mode but I'm not sure if Mirroring was possible with that.

You could just plug the phone into the HDMI port of the DVD player if the phone has one...
Mirroring still requires WiFi access for CCast and the phone and Internet to work.

I wandered if there is other mirror device that isn't required all this mess.
My friend have a DVD and someone installed him some device that he can mirror the screen with Mira cast, and no Internet required.
And i prefer it to be wireless.

As I see it, you have 3 choices:
1) If your phone supports MHL, go for a micro USB to HDMI adapter. This is wired and gives the best screen mirroring. No internet is required.
2) If your phone supports Miracast, go for a Miracast dongle. WiFi direct is used and no internet is required.
3) If you really want to use Chromecast, you also can. However, you need to make your phone a WiFi hotspot and need another phone or computer to setup the Chromecast to connect to your main phone. Internet is also required while screen mirroring. The quality depends on your phone model. Also note that only some phone models support screen mirroring using Chromecast.

Miracast doesn't require an internet connection, but it DOES require a Phone that is Miracast capable.
Anox gave you some choices but it would appear you need to get a Miracast dongle provided your Phone supports it.

I was thinking about the mira cast.
The only problem I have is that my DVD haven't got an Hdmi port.
If I buy an usb to Hdmi converter it will work? I'm not sure.

Well how did you expect to plug the CCast into it? It also has an HDMI.
You can buy a HDMI to analog converter but by the time you did that you might as well just buy yourself a cheap tablet and skip the Phone control altogether.
The converter is about 4 times as expensive as the CCast is!
and right around the price point you can find a Nexus 7 on Ebay for.

Cast without wifi or internet?

Trying to set up something in my camper so that I can watch downloaded movies or shows from my phones. I have a Note 3 with android 5.0.2 and miracast seems to be broken? When the Note 3 had 4.4 it worked fine and I used a Sony dvd player that it worked with just fine. It "sees" the player but won't cast to it.
I have a Google Pixel XL that does not see the dvd player for some reason. I brought a wifi router into the camper and tried to set up a chromecast (Gen 1). I can get it set up but then neither device, when connected to same wifi, see the device so that I can cast to it. I am going to grab a Gen 2 model from home and see if this will work.
Is there a simpler way to make this work? It was so easy just using miracast and now this has turned into a massive headache.

If you have the Stock FW on the CC, please ensure, that guest mode is enabled (via Google home). In this case the CC provided an own Wifi net if needed.

I've never been able to get the guest mode to work. It seems like no matter what the chromecast still needs an actual internet connection, even if only casting a movie/picture right from device.
So far what works for me but it's annoying. I have my actual Verizon phone turned on as hotspot, Set up the chromecast to connect to hotspot. I leave it up and running. My Note 3 has my movies on it so I connect to same hotspot and cast using Allcast app...I think. That's the only app that even seems to find the chromecast. Yes I have Google Home installed on both devices. If I turn off the hotspot Chromecast stops working. Neither device finds the chromecast after that unless I turn hotspot back on. Yes guest mode is turned on. A pin is never displayed but since devices don't see it it won't help anyway.
I had a spare wifi router and did the same test. Still need an actual data connection. If no data connection the devices do not see the Chromecast.
Technology is really frustrating at times. Miracast worked just fine until Google didn't like it and made the Chromecast. The Note 3 is old and close to being dead so I am not buying a MHL adapter for it nor will I buy a new tv that has something built in that does not seems to work either. Many other camping people are starting to run into this issue as well.

if you go in Google Home under your device, Settings, there is a possibility to switch the guest mode on. This means the CC works like a hot spot. Its written also on the screen. Every device, which is not in your network, could get an access. I don't know, at which time the guest mode will be disabled automatically. Maybe at this time, if you stream something over your own network to the CC.

I bought a cheap "MiraCast" dongle from eBay that works great. Less than $14 with shipping included from China. They list them as a "2nd Generation Chromecast 2" screen mirroring devices, a little misleading, but I'm happy with the unit, as it was brand new, in a very nice box I might add. Motorhome option to cast from phone or tablet or TV without Wi-Fi or hotspot connecti
I was looking at a thread that discuss different connectivity options without Wi-Fi but could not figure it out. Are there any updates to this? Right now the only results that I have is to hardwire an iPhone to the TV using the HDMI connection and Apple Adapter device. The Mira cast Dongle works most of the time but is intermittent at best.

My son upgraded to an iphone so I got his old S7. Using it and the sony dvd player I can use miracast again.
I have also set up my main phone as a wifi hotspot and connected a chromecast and my S7 to it as well and been able to cast. This method ties up both devices and then they also both need to be plugged in. My wifes Iphone can also cast to the chromecast when connected to my hotspot.
Best I can come up with for now.

How do I get Netflix to Display over Miracast Connection?

I've been using a 256GB Exynos Note 8 as my first ever Samsung Smartphone for almost a year now, and I've been really loving the extremely versatile featureset it packs. It has hands down been the most useful Smartphone I've ever had after over half a decade of jailbroken iPhones and just switching to Android on a OnePlus One back in 2014. So much so, I've literally been using it as a Pocket PC for most of my computing needs, relying less and less on my Surface Pro 2.
However, there has been one pet peve that just keeps getting in the way of me enjoying my Note 8 to the fullest; whenever I try to miracast Netflix running on my Note 8 to my Microsoft Wireless Display Adaptor connected to a big screen (be it in my living room, bed room, or a hotel room), I only get audio and subtitles, no video Everything else -- including presentations, games and YouTube -- stream smoothly and very reliably from my Note 8 to whatever big screen I want, way better than even my Surface Pro 2 (1st party hardware). However, I just can't get Netflix to stream over miracast from my Note 8. Oddly enough, it works from my Surface Pro 2 with the latest Netflix app from the Microsoft Store.
Any genius out there have some suggestions on how to get Netflix working over miracast? I don't want them chromecast as they require their own internet connection instead of simply functioning via WiFi direct. Thanks in advance.

Are you plugging this adapter into a TV at a hotel etc? Or is it your home TV?
The casting is something Samsung needs to fix its quite fiddly. If I'm casting to a TV I use Smart Things.
I think you should be running the app you're trying to cast from first. Then when you click the option it should recognise your MWDA.
I used to use my Surface Tablet to cast Netflix and it was a nuisance, so I gave up and plugged it directly into the TV and used a Bluetooth mouse.

Sorry for the very late feedback, for some reason never saw a notification in the XDA Labs app despite responses to my thread.
I just attempted this but all it does is still show a black screen with audio over Miracast, while the video appears on my Note 8's screen.

I tried it both at a camp/hotel and at home. Doesn't matter which TV I'm plugging it into, it's still the same end result; my Note 8 reliably connects over Miracast to it, but Netflix refuses to display.

Hmm, isn't that using Chromecast though? My Wireless Display Adapter doesn't show up when I attempt to add a device in SmartThings.

The problem might be the MWDA. I never used one, I used a 3rd party display port to HDMI cable when connecting my Surface to a TV.
I cast apps from my Note 8 to my TV using Smartthings app. Or if you click the button which says 'button order' for your notification shade, there should be one that says 'smart view' I have successfully cast Netflix on my phone to my TV this way.

The MWDA works perfect and reliably for ANYTHING else, besides Netflix. SmartThings is casting via Chromecast in your Smart TV, that's why it works with Netflix.

That's exactly how I cast from my Note 8's screen to the MWDA, again, it works reliably with everything else but Netflix. The difference is it's using the Miracast protocol in the case of my MWDA, whereas the one to your Smart TV is using the Chromecast protocol (SmartView supports both).
Anyone else have any suggestions on getting Netflix to work over Miracast?

New Chromecast with Google TV - Broken Netflix Casting?

So, one of the universal appeals of the Chromecast (in my opinion) is the ability for anyone to cast content, rather than having to pass around a damn remote.
My girlfriend and I each have separate Netflix accounts, paid for by our families, and on top of all of this, I want if someone comes over, to be able to cast any app (including netflix) from their phone.
It seems to work this on every app (including YouTube, which also has an app) except Netflix.
I tried uninstalling the Netflix app & casting the oldschool way, but the Chromecast doesn't show up.
As much as I like this thing, it may be a dealbreaker.
Anyone have any workarounds, setting changes, or sideloading apps that could fix this? I don't know why Netflix has to be so ham-handed with their app, and why Google let them essentially break how the Chromecast works.

You're dealing with one of the weird conditions of Netflix on Android TV. For some ridiculous reason, casting Netflix to an Android TV device requires the app on the Android TV device and you to be signed into the Netflix app. They are the only one that does this. Hulu, Disney+, etc. all behave like normal casting apps. Since this "Chromecast with Google TV" is really an Android TV device with the Chromecast software stack and a pretty Google TV launcher, it behaves like other Android TV boxes and not a pure Chromecast.

Hi, perhaps dumb question but does the new version of the new Google Chromecast require external power source? From the images it looks like there is USB C port. I would like to have LAN connection and USB A ports for mouse or keyboard and would like to connect a hub to it. But question is if it will work or not. I'm in Sweden and the new version is not for sale yet.

Yes, usb hub with Ethernet works. I had a hub lying around, but I had to purchase a usb c splitter so I could connect hub and power simultaneously.

Netflix needs certification to work on Android TV boxes. Some Android TV boxes are not Netflix certified but are Google certified and have a Chromecast function. I think that if the cast works in this way with Netflix, it is precisely so that users of Netflix on Android TV boxes who are not Netflix certified (Mecool, etc.) cannot cast Netflix on these TV boxes. I think that must be the reason.

It's likely a political Netflix decision to control distribution. They're the only ones, as far as I know, that actually have a Netflix binary client in the non-AndroidTV Chromecast. Every other app obeys standard casting rules. Their dominance allows them to make special demands that other providers don't get.

I've been through two hubs like this both went back to amazon, none of them worked with the Chromecast tv dongle ... are you 100% sure this one works??

Again: power from TV goes via short USB cable to the PD port (usb-c) of the hub; fixed cable of the hub with usb-c connector goes into the chromecast.
