Looking to Flash CyanogenMod 12.1 to MotoX XT1053 - Moto X Q&A

Device Specs
XT1053 Dev. Edition
Android 5.1 222.27.5.ghost.row.Retail.en.US
Bootloader Unlocked
TWRP 2.8.6
I’m currently interested in upgrading to CyanogenMod 12.1 This is my first time showing interest in replacing stock Android firmware to an aftermarket firmware thus I’ve been doing a lot of reading. Nevertheless with that comes a lot of question.
So far I know that the CM branch for MotoX is not officially supported by CM. As stated over at https://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Ghost_Info under “Additional Info / Downloads”
Because of this I would like to see/read user experiences/success stories about CM12.1 successfully running on XT1053. Do you mind sharing your experience with here with me? Or pointing me to an existing thread with standing on this topic? Thanks
The are some videos on YouTube but it is the usual electronic music & just swiping around, or the self-promotion video. Whatever happened with actual technical reviews? I'm interesting in knowing what aspects of the phone are working & which are not working.
Recovery Image
I've TWRP already installed. Do you recommend installing the CM provided recovery image? If I am misunderstanding what the CM "recovery image" is, please correct me. Thanks
I found a forum post talking about issues during the flashing of CM12.1 via TWRP yet when I visit the issues area under the CM MotoX Wiki there are none reported/listed.
I don’t even see a section pointing out the features CM will bring to said device and which will not carried over from the Motorola experience, if any.
Official Google Apps
My understanding is that the Google Apps are not included with CM. That I must get the package from http://opengapps.org/?api=5.1&variant=nano
What are the stock applications included with CM? Can you provide me in this area? Thanks
CM Account?
I read somewhere about one must create a CM account much like one creates a google account for android. Is this true? Where can I find more info about this.
Stragefright
Would CM12.1 include all the fixes to the known stagefright bugs?
Going back to Official Android 5.1 Release
In the case I'm not happy with CM12.1, would I be able to reflash the official Android 5.1 222.27.5.ghost.row.Retail.en.US ? What would the steps be?
Thank you for your help. ^_^

** you dont need CM account
***** The step for back to stock flashable is the same, wipe cache, dalvik, data, system
**** CM doesnt contain any aplications from stock. You can find the camera but dont work like stock, but work
***** I will recommended you use twrp as recovery, and maybe update to 2.8.7.0.

Thank you for your reply.
I did update to TWRP to v2.8.7. Flashing CM12.1 plus GApps. went smooth.
After installing CM12.1 I selecting the "read more" [or the like link] under the Create CM Account panel took me directly to a page saying that CM accounts are no more lol.
Camera
The stock CM camera is not bad but I've fallen for Open Camera [Play Store] which is surprisingly good & packed with features. To make it even better, CM12 does allow you to replace default camera. Furthermore, this works with the twist twice gesture to access the camera. Just beautiful.
The only major issue I have is with "More" under Settings/More. Every time I select it the settings app crashes. I've wiped cache & dalvik but nada. I even reinstalled CM12.1 & still nada.

Excuse my noobness but I'm unable to find "xperience 5.1 r37" I have ran a couple of searches & the best I can come up with are paranoid, which for waht I can gather does not support Ghost nor any legacy device & some blog with cyanogenmod-121-r37-511-canvas-knight which doesn't offer much info.
Do you mind linking me to xperience 5.1 r37?

[7.March.2012][ROM][P75xx] ♫♫ Overcome 10.1 Series v2.3.1 ♫♫

DISCLAIMER: You know the drill, I am not responsible if loading this rom makes your Tab melt, explode, disintegrate, or cause harm to anyone near it. (I am fairly certain none of that will happen though )
Change log in second post.
Welcome to The Overcome Experience - 10.1 Edition . For those of you that don’t know me, let me introduce myself. I am AlterBridge86, the creator of The Overcome Experience. I started developing a ROM on the OG Galaxy Tab (P1000) about 9 months ago and have moved on to having my own brand of ROM’s, Kernels, and Recoverys. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 (P75xx) is the second device now to get a “Overcome Series” ROM, however it will most definitely not be the last.
My mission is simple. I aim to vastly improve the stock user experience on Samsung devices. I think that Samsung makes fantastic hardware, however fails to bring the same level of software quality to their devices. This is where I step in. I take the base rom, as provided by Samsung, and perform further optimization and modification to it. My mods aim not to completely customize the user interface, but rather add some very useful key functionality while retaining the “stock android” look.
ROM FEATURES
Please read the announcement post on the TOE website for a full rundown of the release! http://www.teamovercome.net/p7500

Modded Browser (UAString chooser in Advanced Options)
Bootanimation.zip support (cool boot animation included thanks to gammaRascal in the Iconia forums)
Extended Power Menu (Reboot, Recovery, Download)
Install Instructions
If you have some form of CWM on your device already, simply download the ROM, and install zip through CWM. Be sure to wipe data to ensure a clean install. **WIPE DATA IS RECOMMENDED FOR 2.2.0 INSTALL!**
However, if you wish to attempt a non-wipe install (ONLY for users already on Overcome), follow these instructions: Prior to rebooting into recovery for install, go into Manage Apps and clear data on launcher. Immediately reboot into recovery using the power menu - DO NOT go back ot the home screen first. Install zip without data wipe. After install completes, wipe cache. Reboot.
If you do NOT have CWM on your device already or you want to start completely fresh, I STRONGLY urge you to read the excellent guide that we have put together to get Overcome installed

At long last, Android 3.2 has come to the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Version 2.0 of the Overcome 10.1 Series ROM marks the first release of the rom based on Android 3.2.
For the P7500, the base was graciously provided to us by brucewein and advocator, as well as the country of Israel. That said, this version unfortunately lacks a lot of locales. In it you will find English, Russian, Hebrew, Arabic, and Korean – no more, no less. Hopefully sometime in the near future we get a release from Europe/Asia that will feature many more locales.
For the P7510, we have the now infamous UEKMM build, the “official” US release that was yanked. Despite the reports of it breaking wifi, I have had no issues of the sort and the rom works spectacularly.I suspect that Samsung’s issue is not related to the ROM itself, but the delivery mechanism and/or installation.
On to features in this release – well, the most obvious is Android 3.2 But there are a lot more niceties to be found. I am proud to tell you all that this rom now features the stock Launcher, Browser, Gmail, and Email apps found in Android 3.2.2 (from Xoom). ALL the 3.2.2 apps are phenomenal performers and make the experience on this device the smoothest I have ever seen it.
Along with those apps, I have brought an oft requested feature over from the stock HC experience – it’s animations. The screen animations are now 100% identical to stock Honeycomb and honestly provide a much cleaner, crisper experience. Most all other features have been carried over from previous ROM’s, with the exception of two (that I can think of).
First, for the P7500 folks, there is unfortunately NO extended power menu at this time. The smali code is COMPLETELY different than what it was in 3.1, and even the US version of 3.2 for that matter. I spent many hours trying to make it work with no success. I will of course continue to try to get it working for you all, but to be perfectly honest I think a Euro/Asian release may beat me to it. Secondly, also related to the power menu mod, for the P7510 folks the status bar hide functionality is not yet implemented. I didn’t get to spend a whole lot of time on it, so i’m sure it can be done, I just need to sit down and really dig into it. For the time being however, you WILL have extended power menu (reboot, recovery, download) but will just missing the status bar hide button.
With that said, I’m not going to hold you up any longer and I suggest you all head over to the downloads and enjoy!
EDIT: One more note - it seems the website and its downloads are sucking pretty hard...I apologize for that. Please use the multiupload links in the first post for downloading if you are unable to get through on the website downloads (or they're crawling)

There is, but Samsung being Samsung, can't leave well enough alone and had to put their own spin on it. It's extremely exaggerated in Samsung's version, as opposed to stock HC where it is significantly more subtle.
Wow - sounds fantastic. Thanks for all your hard work. Can't wait to get home and try flashing this one!
One quick question: was there any reason you replaced the stock email/browser/gmail apps but not the calendar/contact apps? My pet hate with the 10.1 is the ugliness that is samsung's touchwiz calendar.

I replaced the Calendar and it worked, but I didn't know which people would prefer as there is a stark difference lol...i figured i'd leave that one alone. The other apps pretty much look the same, but perform better
Contacts on the other hand wasn't having it at all, but admittedly I didn't spend too much time trying to finagel it in. Maybe in a future release if there is enough requests we'll switch to stock Calendar/Contacts

The Browser one is still exaggerated for some reason, i suspect they are being controlled by different sources (again...samsung ugh) but around the settings and stuff it is not as bad as it was

Ok, thanks for the explanation. My preference is definitely toward the stock app , since the week view layout is much more practical (including zooming in/out ability). You can see the difference here:
http://www1.pcmag.com/media/images/...-android-3-0-honeycomb-honeycomb-calendar.jpg
compared to:
http://static.skattertech.com/files/2011/08/galaxy-tab-touchwiz-calendar.jpg
Same deal with the month view:

compared to:

The stock app is just so much more usable!
thanks for all your hard work: lots of enthusiasm for 3.2 and the Overcome version.
Downloaded and installing as of now...
Just rooted after having this thing for a month, I cant believe i waited that long. Anyway going to give this one a shot and see how it goes.
Well, just flashed 2.0 over the previous version and I'm getting launcher and exchange services fc's. Thought it might be a bad flash so I wiped the dalvik and flashed again to no avail. Fixing permissions in recovery also has no effect. Yes I flashed the version appropriate to my device (7510). Any suggestions besides starting over from stock?

1 rule i learnt from flashing since g-d knows when. A clean wipe is the best way to get a rom working right. if you are having FC clean install is your best option. I would recommend an app called appextractor it works great on restoring apps from your nandroid backups.

Early stage guide for Kit Kat 4.4 | Please read before posting in Kit Kat ROM threads
************************************************** ***************************************************
Hi there,
As we get more and more Kit Kat ROMs I've decided to create this thread. In every ROM thread, the same questions are asked so I think it would be useful to collect the most important questions into a central location so the other threads don’t become tedious and difficult to read. If I forgot something or you have any suggestions, please let me know.
@moderators
If I'm in the wrong section please move my thread.
If there is a similar thread (I didn't find one) please close this one.
UPDATE: kk 4.4 factory image out now
hangouts and messaging are in. the normal email app is in too. Don't know if it's the aosp one.
for new google launcher:
1. Google Search http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/1...y-fixes-gel-on-tablets-and-more-apk-download/
2. Experience Launcher http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/1...once-you-get-your-kitkat-update-apk-download/
Install in this order the goto 16
after that it looks like the n5 port.
1. Features
All currently available builds are in an early state. This means that a lot of the customization you had in 4.3 ROMs are not available at the moment. The devs are working on it.
2. What isn’t working in all 4.4 ROMs
Binaries released. So everything should working.
3. Dalvik Runtime and ART
A new feature has been implemented in Kit Kat called ART (Android Runtime). What is it? Take a look at this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2516303
credits to: @freebordjunky
4. Which one should I choose?
It's your own decision! ART is faster than Dalvik from my personal experience. You can switch between runtimes:
settings -> developer options -> select runtime
5. Does ART have any requirements?
Yes. Two important things you should notice:
a.)
If you switch to ART you have to reboot. During the reboot, your device switches from using Dalvik Runtime to ART. This may take a while.
IMPORTANT
You may have a lot FC 's in GAPPS. Why? This happens when you have flashed the wrong GAPPS package. To work properly you have to flash an Odex GAPPS package. You will find this here from @#gnome: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2508185
If you want to know more about odex and deodex - ask google
b.)
Some apps are still not working on ART and no known workaround is available. Three apps that I know of are Foursquare, Whatsapp and Titanium Backup (tested 6.10).
WhatsApp Workaround credits to @luiseteyo :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2527879
6. GAPPS packages
There are different packages available. It’s all up to preference.
Deodex
1. AOSP launcher and stock Messaging
2. Google Experience Launcher and Hangouts for SMS
Odex (ART)
1. AOSP launcher and stock Messaging
2. Google Experience Launcher and Hangouts for SMS
7. Is this faster than…
Sorry guys. How do I score this? Every configuration is different and so often there are individual experiences so... try, try, try until you find the right one for you.
8. Custom kernels
Binaries released. So kernels will come.
IMPORTANT
If you have screen issues, flash the CM colorfix. It's available here on xda, just use search.
9. SMS & Hangouts
To import SMS from other ROMs, first restore messages using TiBu or SMS Backup & Restore to the AOSP Messaging app. After this you can activate Hangouts as the default SMS app. It should then import your messages. Maybe it's necessary to clear hangout's cache after that.
10. Factory images and binaries
Released
11. Errors during flashing
If you got errors during flashing you have to try another custom recovery. In TWRP there were some problems with version 2.6.3. Upgrade to the latest version (2.6.3.2) to get rid of the errors.
TWRP here: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/mako
12. Is Viper audio working?
Yes. It may be necessary to uninstall musicfx and / or dsp manager.
Please use chainfire's supersu for viper audio. You have to enable compatible mode in viper.
13. Icons are big
You can change this via build.prop editor. Edit this entry: ro.sf.lcd_density
Play Store Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.nathan.jf.build.prop.editor
14. Enable Google Now
Press long and hold on a free area on your homescreen.Select Settings and enable Google Now
15. Dalvik Optimization
From Moto X device extracted dalvik optimization binaries. It will increase speed.

I have disconnect bluetooth issues when streaming in the car. Pebble keeps reconnecting every 15 mins or so. I live on bluetooth because of these two things. In every 4.4 port/rom, it's the same missing libs IMO. So no go for me for now. I am getting a N5, in a few weeks, but wanted to check out KK. Other than the BT issue, the port is a great port! Smooth, and launcher works perfectly! But because of my need of BT I have revered back to my PA 3.99 since last night and BT connection hasn't discoed at all since then.
Thank you !

I am getting BT drops as well. Seems to be after leaving the screen off for a while. It reconnects as soon as turn the screen back on.
I have also had quite a few dropped calls but can't be certain that this wasn't the network.

Wow this is great. I hope someone port this to atrix hd.

Which of these models is gsm so i can try flashing this on atrix hd?
Awesome awesome!! Been waiting in anticipation for this will try as soon as possible!
EDIT: Ok, I have only had limited time to test. But briefly put things looks promising here:
Installed without any problems (using latest TWRP in my case). The same bugs that exist in CM 11 are also present here, which is it to be expected (e.g. broken video playback). This is perfectly natural for such an early release and no doubt these will get sorted out as development progress. I am glad to try out this early build. For an alpha it seems very stable and definitely looks promising! I initially tried the official Slim Gapps (as linked to). They seemed fine. Since then I have installed ART compatible Gapps from the CM thread (13/11 i believe). Now running in ART runtime mode. Yes this does introduce some problems and not all apps are compatible, however from my experience ART also introduce a previously unseen level of smoothness. Will continue to use this the next days and of cause eagerly follow development.
@darkspadez (and all other other involved devs of cause): Congrazt on this first public SlimKat build for our phones!

I am using latest twrp recovery found here in the RAZR development forum. I can't say if this the best option though. I can only say that in my case it worked fine (install, backup and restore).
I'm one of the devices running the buggy EMMC.
Error is the same as all the others (I wish there were a kernel fix for it):
set_metadata_recursive: some changes failed
Back to the drawing board...

I was flashing fine with cwm 6.0.3.6 for the epinter build. I did finally update, but I had to use a .bat file in conjunction with a special fastboot.exe file to actually upgrade the recovery, because otherwise it would just fail to upload. I was having backup issues with TWRP, so I just stick with CWM now. Haven't had any issues. If you want to try that .bat .exe combo I found, let me know.

I just flashed the CWM this morning via fastboot and everything went fine. Have you tried that way?

I was expecting to read about the ROM, but only see comments about recoveries. Any comments on the ROM? Video recording/playback is working?
Working great on atrix hd other then i get no signal. Everything else seen to work. I also had to edit the build.prop to change the resolution to 320 so it doesn't look so small on my atrix hd

Wonder when this was commited to compile. I see a bunch of changes related to this in the gerrit and wonder if CM11 will be getting this tonight as well.
Yeah I wonder the same as well. Maybe @skeevydude be able to fix few things with these commits for aosp 4.4

thanks; the cm-11-20141006 unoficial work!
i have speaker again!
Great work
I run this rom as my "toilet device" right now nightly 10.12.2014
And no problems.
Have not tested phone functionality but it works great with video, web surfing and LTS data and wifi.
An issue I have noticed is excessive power-use when syncing (owncloud). might be related to wifi.
I want this room to reach stable badly. Please tell me if there is anything you need.

Hi everyone,
I use CM11 on my phone for a few days now and I love it, I have been waiting for quite some time. I have just two questions:
1: Could you recommend me a recovery to use for the i9295? I am currently using PhilZ Touch 6.57.9 / CWM 6.0.5.1 since it was listed in a german forum (can't link since I am new..) on rooting the phone. However, the path to the sdcard in the recovery is obviously different than what is given in the update-scripts, so the automatic nightly updates do not work and I always have to select the file manually. Also I think I have read that PhilZ announced that he won't be working on the recovery any longer.
So in short: Which custom recovery should I use and where can I find it?
2: Should I update my Baseband? I am currently on the relatively old version I9295XXUAMF5 - Is it worth to update? If so - do I need to flash a full Samsung firmware, or can I get the baseband seperately and flash it with Odin? I was already told that the last Knox-Free version is NE5, so which baseband do you guys use?
Thanks in advance,
daLuiz

1: @spegelius has put 6.0.5.0 on his Gdrive. Built Aug 15. Link in OP of CM11 Original Dev. tread. @allram has 6.0.5.1 on his Gdrive. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55589413&postcount=871
Both is OK for clean/dirty flash or backup. Both have Reboot = ShutDown. No big deal, just power on after. External SD exfat support is only 6.0.5.1.
2: Baseband ???
After reading some posts and seen the use of baseband = modem, baseband = bootloader and baseband = LTE modem, also aware that System - About... present this as tag for ....? (not sure which of them)
This is certainly a source of confucion and also probably the reason why some experience loss of WiFi when they have done a Odin flash of LTE modem =NON-HLOS.BIN on wrong bootloader (aboot.mbn, sbl1.mbn, sbl2.mbn, ...) version.
It is NOT reccommended to mix 4.2 bootloader and 4.4 LTE modem.
Some collected info and links from here
Please keep in mind that i9295 Active is really similar to i9505 S4 LTE in hardware. Thats why my link in the CM11 thread point to a well visited thread for i9505.
BE AWARE that modem/LTE/bootloader IS NOT interchangeable for the two devices AFAIK.
You _must_ be sure it is for i9295 Active.
If you choose to do it the Odin way with modem.bin, NON-HLOS.bin: first identify your bootloader version in CM Terminal or ADB:
Code:
getprop ro.bootloader
Samsung last 3 letter code naming:
N = year = 2014 (14th letter of alphabet)
E = month of year (May in this case, 5th letter of the alphabet)
x = build # of that month (10th for, "A", as they start 1-9 first, before letters)
NE4 = 2014, May, Build 4 (4.4 KitKat)
NH2 = 2014, Aug, Build 2 (4.4 KitKat)
Generally - if you have working WiFi/GSM/LTE after CM11 flash = no need to fiddle with modems.
The safe way to update is by flashing a complete original Samsung TW ROM for your region/country that has this bootloader-LTEmodem chain setup correctly. When later flashing CM11 nightly, flashing CM11 nightly,... you keep whatever bootloader+GSM modem+LTE modem version you had from first transition to CM11 world. CyanogenMod does'nt touch any of them.

1017 & 1018 or older never crash.
System settings - Apps - Camera:
Force stop + Clear data
This will not delete any pictures /video.
CM11 camera version is 2.0.002, Google camera replace CM11 camera and has a higher version.
There are pending updates for CM11 Camera in next nightly. If Clear data doesn't help do you recognize similar issue fixed as listed in cmxlog web page (change log) ?

Your i537 has AT&T locked bootloader. This is different from the i9295 and topic of this thread. No known CyanogenMod or AOSP option available for the i537.
Try this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7827
... and advice you to use xda forum search or open a thread in Q&A section if no search hit match your next question.
Still an issue on newest release.

This is still my number one issue. Got any ideas?
Does anybody else get a FC when trying to reply/forward to an email in the new Gmail 5.0 (1569867)? The only way I can get it to work is to roll back to Gmail 4.9 (1271612).
Any ideas?
Have flashed CM11 Nightlies only doing cache clean between. Have kept pa_gapps-modular-pico-4.4.4-20140923 in /system along with cm flash. Play Store and Services updated automatically during this.
No issues besides known like man. carrier search.
Along with CM11 1105 I did a /system format and flashed updated pa_gapps-modular-pico-4.4.4-20141103. After that I had slow down speed from Store, below 100kb/s usually over Mb/s.
Repair:
Went to apps and deleted data from Google Services, removed Play update, let Play update (pressed Play - About inside Play) =speed restored
Delete data from Google Services won't remove account or contacts
@Devo7v
You could try the Services trick. I don't know if Gmail has links to it.
Alternatively K9 can handle several accounts including Gmail.

I wiped Google Play services, Google Services Framework, and Gmail data, but still Gmail 5.0 FCs whenever I try to reply to an email. I uninstalled Gmail updates and reinstalled Gmail 4.9 and no problems. I think I'm going to convert it to a user app with TiBu and see if that works. If not I guess I'm wiping the phone and starting over.

[Discussion] Dirty Unicorns DU 12 Hammerhead (8.1) [Development Hult]

DU just released first batch of official Oreo builds and Nexus 5 is lucky to be on 1st line as DU is first one from major custom ROMs league to release official Oreo for hammerhead after testing beta builds for months.
Since DU guys don't officially host/discuss on XDA I'm creating this thread as discussion thread for XDA DU enthusiasts to keep it organised and help each other, be inform this is no way official support thread.
All bug reports (with proper logs) and feature request should go to DU's JIRA
Create Account and Select Project as Android-8.x DU12
You are Not allowed to share any Direct Links regarding DU builds in this thread. (DU maintainers has asked for same in past so we should respect their decision and go to Official G+ for links)
Please follow above rules as Nexus 5 now has only handful of official Maintainers and we don't want to lose them due to mischief of few members.
A simple Google search will also give you,

Have you tried formatting to ext4? It was needed for RC builds. Not sure if its required for official build. Also what twrp version are you using?
I'm using it and it's really good. I switched over to ext4 on all my partitions a while ago so maybe that's the cause of the bootloop the above poster is experiencing.
I also wrote a guide for using it with NanoDroid: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75835165&postcount=2692

I have the same issue. I haven't tried any other camera apps though.
It flashed and booted fine for me, didn't have to do anything special. Used nano opengapps.
Battery life is great, best of the 8.1 ROMs I've tried. So far everything is smooth and works fine, except camera fc's. Easy enough to flash a working camera, which I did.
Very happy with this, and appreciate the maintainer for his work on hammerhead.
My Report :
Default Camera FCs (You can use Google camera with Magisk Mod to get HDR+ working ) (Already reported to DU team on Jira, You can add your logcat)
Video still feels shaky and unclear on Google camera
Overall Smooth and silk ROM with Handful of nice features. :good:
On comparison with Nougat..well it's still not as stable but hey it's just 1st release.
Just flashed this and my lord its fast and I lobe the boot animation 1st time I've used DU.

Well... just flashed this ROM. Oreo? Yeah!
But... There are some problems. The biggest one: bluetooth. I explore every angle of they posts on G+, official site, and download sections: nobody mention about bluetooth problems. I have a little headset, and now audio during calls is simply TERRIBLE. I know the issue is famous out there, but I hoped that a "stable" release of DU will not have this kind of bug... I can survive for some time, but if nothing will be fixed, I prefer go back to a "stable" Nougat...
Other problem? I had to change/override the camera app. I just found this and install it. Just delete any data of the app and cache, reboot if it doesn't work:

apkmirror has one that another thread recommended as the last Google camera that works well for N5, it's 3.2.045. No link, I just went to apkmirror and found it. That worked for me.
However, I just checked another camera I have now that's working, and it's 4.2.035, and I'm not sure where I got it from, maybe from another Oreo rom. apkmirror probably has that one, too.
New RC is up..Unfortunately clean flash is required as it's RC and not official release so Signature change:good:
