The benefits and disadvantages of rooting Samsung Galaxy S 5 (Specifically)

// Sorry, wrong sub-forum.
Some of you may know the new policy of Google about SD cards support since the release of ICS, but some OEMs (namely Samsung) have gone against that and continue to include an SD slot for expandable storage.
However, it seems Google have new policy too for SD cards, for security purpose KitKat does not allowed 3rd party apps to access others folder (they are only allowed to access com.3rdpartyappsname) which is a good thing but I also heard that preinstalled file manager is considered as a system apps and can access the SD (Exporitng and importing), but my Samsung Galaxy S 5 said different things, my File Manager could paste file from MicroSD to Internal Storage but my File Manager could not paste file form Internal Storage to MicroSD and also could not create new folder/file in MicroSD.
I've found SDFix apps for this problem but it required rooted device and I am not thinking to root my own device for security purpose and I am also afraid to lose "unkown" things when I am rooting my Samsung Galaxy S 5. I know there's several topics discussing about the benefits and disadvantages of rooting Android devices, but what I am looking for is, the benefits and disadvantages of rooting Samsung Galaxy S 5, specifically, for example breaking Samsung ToS, voids the warranty.
Is there anyway I could transfer the file from Internal Storage to the MicroSD card without the need of uploading it to the internet and downloading it via computer and using adapter for the MicroSD and manually transfer the file? I am not a geek computer so honestly it kinda annoying for myself because I can't using my WiFi direct to transfer file between Windows 8.1 (Laptop) to my Samsung Galaxy S 5.
As a note, there's no way for myself to transfer file to my Samsung Galaxy S 5 without remove the MicroSD card and install it to the adapter and transfer the file manually because when I am using connecting my Samsung Galaxy S 5 via usb port to the laptop, it does connect but it refused me to transfer file (to MicroSD or to Internal Storage), so there's only 2 way to transfer file to my Samsung Galaxy S5 that I know, upload it to the internet and let my Samsung Galaxy S 5 download it or using MicroSD adapter and transfer it manually, both of them are inefficient, do you know how to fix these problems?
As a second note, my File Manager seems does not have full access to the MicroSD, is that normal?

Disadvantages: only one, knox incremented so garanty void.
Advantages: million reasons to root your phone (backup, theming, total control of your S5).
For your sdcard write pb, root, xposed then xposed modules (several fixes exist now).

But no need OTA when flashing custom ROMs

I wouldn't say that a disadvantage is the Knox counter. I'm rooted and running Dynamic Kat and my Knox is still 0x0. I'm also on AT&T with locked bootloader though.

Is there a way to avoid the warranty void when rooting the devices?

My *guess* is - Root isn't inherently the issue, but replacing the boot loader could be, as would changing any number of system apps or the kernel to an unsupported version - whichever ones KNOX are validating.
I also have a rooted G900A, am current on all OTA, and was able to get/maintain root safely via TowelRoot ( thanks to http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s5/general/g900and3tong3keeprootota-zip-t2862299 ). I have a number of apps frozen with Titanium Backup (as in all bloatware and almost everything Samsung), knox is not tripped, etc. *all* I would need to do to clean up behind myself would be to un-root, should I need warranty support. Should I need that I would refer to this guide ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53454972&postcount=1 )

As long as rooted properly, and status of the phone is official there is no issue.
Although some root apps will change the status to custom. Simple solution there too. Install Xposed framework and Wanam module, and change the status to Official. Done and dusted.

The reason Knox isn't tripped by towelroot is because it is an exploit. It is an unintended effect. Running any other root method even if it only installs the su binary still trips Knox.

some user is reporting success. So just try. You will loose root if it works and need a patched september boot image afterwards

When you enable hal3 API you modify the system partition. If even mounting it rw trips the "modified detector" it is no wonder ota does not work

From what I understand, and the following confirms it, some people have simply edited the properties file in System (thus no updates) and some have used the 'setProp' command, which doesn't modify System.
The following explains it:
"Android system properties are being managed by special property_service. The /system/build.prop is just one out of 4-6 (depending on the version) read-only files containing the default values that property_service uses to populate its internal in-memory database with during start-up. So changes to the files during run time would not propagate until after reboot.
The setprop and getprop commands are used to access the data in that database. Unless the property name starts with persist. - then the value gets stored in /data/property folder."
So, it seems that if all you do with root is use setprop, you should continue to get the updates.

I've used a Magisk module to enable camera2api.
I've now uninstalled magisk, anyone has an idea about how should I procede?

This probably also does the setprop stuff. Do you know if uninstalling it restores the original state?

I won't try that because I've changed the build.prop to enable HAL3 and cameraApi2. So i'll need to flash the system.img BEFORE doing that... I'll do it next week only.

[REQUEST] Module to get Samsung Shealth working again on rooted Samsung S20 Ultra 5G

Hello,
i need help to create a small magisk module to make Samsung SHealth working again on my Samsung S20 Ultra 5G. At the moment device is rooted but /system is readonly. to make changes to build.prob a magisk module should work.
In build.prop the value of ro.config.tima=1 must be changed to 0.
That's all.
Maybe some of the experts could create a small magisk module for me?

If you can't create your own module, try MagiskHide Props Config. You can easily change prop values with that.

If all you want to do is to change a prop value, you just need to install the module, run the props command and pick the "Add/edit custom props" option and just follow the on-screen instructions.

As far as I've seen, if you can unlock the bootloader it should just be a matter of following the official instructions:

I already installed Magiskhide Prop Config and Busybox modules and termux app as well.
steps :
open termux >
su
ro.config.tima (but it returns not found)
I am not sure what the correct props command syntax for changing ro.config.tima to "0" for S Health to work.

Well, yes... If you enter nothing but that into the terminal prompt that would be the result.
If you want to use the MagiskHide Props Config module to change the prop you'll have to start by running the command "props" (without quotation marks). Pick option 4 ("Add/edit custom props") and then follow the on-screen instructions.
If you need more info, the linked docs cover the use of the module pretty well.

How To Guide How to remove carrier boot logo

Hello, What this post will be covering is in the title; I will be showing you how to remove the carrier boot logo off your samsung galaxy s21 ultra (This should work with pretty much any modern samsung phone)
If you don't know how to flash a patched magisk rom to your device or you don't know how to use odin DO NOT FOLLOW THIS GUIDE. This will trip knox (Voiding warranty) because it will require root.
First you want to download the stock rom for your phone make sure its from a legit website such as https://samfw.com or https://www.sammobile.com make sure to download the correct rom for your device model or you can brick your device.
You will require a windows pc and winzip to help you extract the needed files.
MAKE SURE TO BACKUP ALL YOUR FILES AS THE PHONE WILL BE WIPED.
First you should extract your stock rom from the zip file into a folder then you want to copy the csc file and when thats done remove the .md5 extension at the end (You may need to Disable the "Hide extensions for know file types" in windows explorer settings and then you want to open the renamed file with winzip and look for a file ending with the .pit extension, This will be crucial for the next step. You need to copy that file to your folder with all the files needed to flash. Then using odin go to the options tab and enable the re-partition and then go to the PIT file tab and click ok on the warning message then click the PIT button and select the file we just copied now proceed as normal to select all your files to flash but instead of selecting the stock ap file you will choose your magisk patched version and then click start. After the whole process is done complete the setup and DO NOT CONNECT TO WIFI (THIS IS CRUCIAL) then plug your phone back into your pc and copy the magisk app provided in the files section and install it using the default file manager (MY FILES) and when that is done copy the "System App Remover" file from the files section and install that now open that app on your phone and grant is super user rights then go and look for the application called "Recommended apps" or "Application Recommendations" and select them and click the uninstall button. After uninstall is complete make sure to reboot and then you will be able to enjoy device without the annoying boot logo.

I'm looking through the lists of app and I can't find anything like "Recommended" anything. This is a BTU rom but the device keeps reverting to H3B when the wifi is connected. Without the WiFi connected, it does not have the brand boot/reboot logos but seems to create a list of Greyed out apps its going to install and groups them under "Three Likes".
Once the WiFi is connected, it downloads all the Greyed out apps and also add the boot/reboot logos.
Ideally I'd like to not have the H3B stuff altogether. But whatever I do with odin and a BTU rom, nand erase and repartition, it still comes back. Where is this stuff hiding?

After a fresh flash (however you like to do it, it doesn't matter), don't connect to wifi. Boot up and setup adb.

# Once that has been removed, clear the cache of the launcher to make the grey icons go away

If you want to remove the splash screen, You can remove the /omr/res folder, Alternatively you can re-flash the CSC file using ODIN however this isn't a permanent solution. If you need any help do feel free to PM me

If anyone still needs help with this, You can simply flash the omr file located in the csc file. Here is one i made for G998BXXU5CVDD firmware.

Question Access denied popup

I'm using a rooted S21 Ultra. I'm on stock android.
It's been rooted for 1.5 years and there were no issues. A couple of months ago the attached popup started to appear. I press ok and it goes away. This can happen between once every 2-3 days to a couple times a day.
There were no significant changes on the device when this started, so I have no idea what caused this to appear.
On my searches I read that it could be the Samsung Health app, so I I installed it, but that didn't help. I guess it's another Samsung app? But which?
Right now I'm running A13, but this started a couple of months back when I was running A12. The upgrade didn't change that.
Any leads on this?

A number of Samsung apps will check for root/Knox status, and since Knox is hardware based (i.e. trip it once, and it's tripped forever), even if you return to complete stock, these apps won't work.
It's mainly the apps whose data security heavily depends on the phone's root status (even if it's currently unrooted, it's been 'compromised'), so Samsung Health, Secure Folder, etc. are the main culprits for such a message. However it's possible that Samsung added a system-level check that causes the pop-up.

I will clarify again. My phone was rooted for about 16 months before this message showed up. It's been rooted 1.5 years and the message is here for 2 months. This is what I meant when I said no significant changes before the message appeared.

I have the same problem when I first bought the phone, I rooted it, then I unrooted it, but because knox was triggered, android 12 was not coming out, so it started to appear after I made the CSC change. android 13 e upgrade

For permission you don't need third party app
Open settings - apps - enable show system app - search Digital Key and disable show on top permission
