Has anyone else had a problem where you no longer have root after about 3 reboots after using the sprint userdebug package to gain root?
After investigation, it seems that something changes permissions to /system/etc/init.sec.boot.sh
Or perhaps because nothing sets permissions on this file itself after setting up /system/etc/launch_daemonsu.sh the contents of this file and not the context or permissions are transferred to /system/etc/init.sec.boot.sh
I performed the operations that are done to launch_daemonsu.sh prior to its duplication to init.sec.boot.sh and executed it, I was then able to get a supersu prompt to grant root priveleges. I have to re-run this script every boot to get a prompt otherwise all root requests immediately fail.
I used adb root shell to make changes since it does not require supersu to manage its root privileges.
I am not sure if I needed to change permissions, but I doubt I'll be re-flashing the userdebug firmware to find out. (I was preparing to odin back to stock anyway.)
I do not know how to make this script execute during boot. I specialize in more desktop flavors of linux and Android is not quite that.
same thing happened to me just now.
not sure what to do, not sure if i have to reinstall everything again

Note 7 v2 Root Sticking
I exchanged my v1 for the v2 yesterday and did not insert my sim card. I brought it home and went through the OP steps. I inserted the sim after step 5. I was able to successfully root my Note 7 and ran Titanium to uninstall some apps but then I lost root after Samsung + updated. I don't know if it was a coincidence but I decided to retry all the steps and I immediately froze the Samsung + update then proceeded to uninstall the bloat I didn't want(including Samsung+) and my phone has maintained root since then. I have rebooted several times to test it and it has been successful every time. ROM is performing well and I have added Adaway and it too is working great.

Listen up folks. Do not and i repeat do not update any of samsungs apks. Until we can find out whats going on. It seems that samsung is now pushing updates thru their apks to check and get rid of SU. They are getting sneaky. So for now do not update any samsungs apk, not even thru google. Also do not update SU, this is another way to lose root. We are working on it. Please do not ask if we found anything, if a fix is found we will post our findings.
If you need shealth, iris scanner, samsung pay, android pay, or any other samsung apk, then you need to stay on stock firmware and not use root.
Also if anyone is having issue with files or odin not flashing, make sure you are not on the new PI4 stock ROM, if you are then odin will fail everytime and at this moment there is no way to root or down grade to the older firmware.
Otherwise Try to redownload all files as it seem that afh is/was having alot of issues with uploads and downloads. This not something that we can fix as we dont host or own that site.
Can you guys break down the steps to regain root without reinstalling the OS? Mine also lost root on v2.
It looks like my S-Health was automatically updated to the latest version, which has been reported to be a root of the cause.
Make sure that once you do all tje steps to get root. Make sure you turn wifi off. Once you turn wifi on, it will start auto updating apps in the play store which includes s health and other saamsung apps. Install package disabler and disable all samsung apps. Samsung pay, samsung+, s health, and any others. Also make sire you go back to the play store and into settings and disable auto updating of apps, jist to be on the safe side.
What i would like to know is: am i able to still use samsung cloud? Themes? Etc... because i have been avoiding them since i had to reroot yesterday....please advise.

Try them and see if you can use those services. If you lose root then you have your answer. Some of us dont use those stuff, so it is hard to answer. This is why you folks are here. Test things out. Try different things to see what works for you. Trying those things will not void your warranty. The only thing that might happen is that you might lose root.

I downgraded my Xperia M2 dual d2302 to 4.3 and rooted with towelroot and then flash 4.4.4 followed by flashtool force towelroot using super su. This would uninstall super su on my phone and install its own super su binaries and busybox content. The super su pro would however, remain installed. So, I would have to redownload the super su and as soon as i would open it, it would ask for binary update and then ask for reboot. I would just follow the prompt without question. As soon as it reboots, though the root would be there but sd card and system rewriteable will be gone and there is no way to make my system rewriteable without flashtool reflashing back to 4.3 and following the long procedure. I till now, would blame kitkat and sony for that. This continued for over 8 days till I realised that the real culprit was not sony or kitkat but super su binary update followed by reboot. This is highly anoying. What is the point of root if system or sd card writing is not allowed? For now, I am living with super su by canceling the binary update everytime I open it. I have OCD and I find it highly annoying. I tried searching for an option to cancel auto search for updates bur in vain. My phone works just fine without update. I need no updates and need a way to stop super su asking for update everytime. Please suggest me something.
I have now discovered that even if I cancel binary updates, supersu auto updates causing the same problem. So, now I have decided to live without Supersu as supersu is not needed for root. I have an unlimited root access for all my apps which have root permission now and to add icing to the cake, my bootloader is locked. If anyone else is searching for a way to make Sony Xperia M2 dual 4.4.4 system writebale without unlocking bootloader, just follow:
LOCKED BOOTLOADER
1. Downgrade to JB, Root your Phone using Towel Root in Jelly Bean
2. Update via OTA to KK 4.4.2 or KK 4.4.4 whatever you need (4.4.4 is recommended)
3. In this process, don't try to install or uninstall anything
4. Wait for booting finish
5. Install latest SuperSU from Play Store
6. Open Flashtool in PC
7. Connect your phone to PC
8. Now flashtool will describe your phone information, then click Root Tab in top, after that choose force root by TowelRoot
And after this, do not install supersu or any other root control app. Just let your phone be as such without updating binaries or anything and you will have root. You will have unrestricted root on Xperia M2 dual, Enjoy and remember not to install supersu, kingsu, cm superuser or any similar app.
I was thinking to help you, but then i was worried if something else goes wrong, then you will blame me, just like you blame super su.
Yeah I'm sure of that. Just a note for you: I already have root. Super Su is not needed for root. It only controls which app gets access to root. The only problem without super su is that there is less safety as any app can get root without restrictions. I just want super su to be polite and less invasive by learning to live with whatever it gets rather than forcing itself on us. If I don't want binary updaye, super su has no business updating on its own. I just want a way to stop super su from updating binaries and I don't think you can help unless you can patch the app which I doubt

I think you are misunderstand about the binary thing, supersu need to update the binary so it will work properly, its not like updating app on playstore, binary is the root system itself i believe.
Help me out on this one, afaik, root access need atleast 1 superuser app to allow and control the root access for any root app. Any root app will need to request for granted the root at least once ti get the root access.
So tell me, how do you manage to have rooted device without any root management app such [email protected]@cm supersu?

BTW, tell us what do you need on your device that will make you feel better. (About the superuser @ root thing of course)

No, I am already having root . I have integrated most of the updates to my system app to my sys/app folder through lucky patcher and have installed the modded play store . I can even edit and delete system files in "ES explorer" file manager and stop items from startup using "all-in-one-toolbox" boot manager. I have an older version of su binaries which was installed automatically into my phone by "flashtool by androxide" using the force root mode using towel root :good: . But the supersu app was not installed and if the app existed before rooting, flashtool would uninstall it and also replace the new su binaries with an older version ! So, I already have full root access without the supersu app.
As far as i know, supersu is not needed for root. It is only a gatekeeper app which restricts the unlimited access of root to any app by making the apps that need root to ask for permission first. Without supersu installed, root apps get root access without asking permission provided binaries (any version) are already present. Also, for normal people who don't know or can't install binaries directly, they rely on apps like supersu, CM etc for installing the binaries. But once the binaries are installed, the supersu app is no longer needed for root (except in cases of OTA updates or updation of binary to a newer version) but instead works as a security guard for root.
Edit:
What I want is a way to make supersu submissive and to make do with whatever binaries are already present. If it is not broken, then there is not need to fix/update it. But supersu is extremely adamant. Even when I cancel the update, it gets the binary updated by itself when it gets an internet connection. And after reboot, my system rewriteable access would be gone! And how do I know for sure that Supersu updated binaries without my consent? That is because when I open supersu, it no longer asks for binary updates implying that it updated it on its own. I want supersu to understand that it is my phone and I will install only those things that i deem fit to be installed. Auto update services are something which i don't like.

Actually, you do have a good point here, as by mean we want root for full control of our property. And i just realize about the binary being updated thru network without our consent. I am hoping if you could get a logcat of the device when this happened next time. Including modem log, system, main, event, audit log, if possible. Im not sure if i can help you on this one, but i really want to look deeper into this one. Hope you can help me, using SysLog app. Can you do that, please?

At present I am using my phone without supersu as I will have to spend a lot of time downgrading to 4.3 and then rooting followed by painfully slow 4 OTAs in succession (there is no single direct OTA from 4.3 to 4.4.4 on Xperia M2 dual, unfortunately :crying: ) followed by installation of all my apps. I too wish there was a fix for supersu but the time I'll have to spend on that will be enormous and also considering that in this september my phone will mostly get lollipop 5.1, the 4.4.4 woes will soon be history.
Also, I want to mention that I haven't unlocked my bootloader yet. If I unlock my bootloader, all these problems with supersu will vanish. The actual difficulty I am facing is because there is no single post on the internet that says how to get system to be rewriteable without unlocking bootloader in Xperia M2 devices. Every post I have read of only has people with unlocked bootloader saying what to do and people with locked bootloader complaining that they aren't able to make their system rewriteable. I am probably one of those rare people who managed to get complete root with locked bootloader and hence facing the issue of lack of peer help.
Anyways, I really appreciate your interest shown in helping me. If I ever have to update my binaries in the future I will definitely take a log of it and pm it to you in case similar situation arises.
Cheers.
Same thanks to you. Actually, i think it is better to put the log here, as more hands and mind will be able to reach it, meaning higher percentage on discovering any hidden in the log. You are right about the lock bootloader, even until now i still unable to manage to truely understand about bootloader, as i didn't have any device with it to get inhand with the system. As always, i do appreciate any kinda knowledge exchange. Thanks in any way.
That's exactly why your system is read only and you can't move apps/data to sd ect without supersu installed and the binaries updated and Sony ric killed you don't have full root r/w access to system. The way you have rooted your device is the same way I did mine it's the easiest way there is if you can't get it right doing that way then maybe you should put your Phone back to stock. Flash jb, root with towelroot apk(at this point do not update anything), now update over the air to 4.4.2 then again to 4.4.4(again update nothing but phone)root will stick after each update. Download supersu connect your phone to flashtool and click on the force root tab(kills Sony ric installs supersu binaries and busybox) making system r/w

Hey Guys,
I have an original (2013) Moto X 1060 (Verizon) that I rooted using this method. http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/moto-x-root-pogress-60-t3071602 It's been working great with no problems until today when my phone decided to update my google wallet app to the new android pay. Whenever I try to add a card to android pay I'm getting the error "Android Pay Cannot be used...... Google is unable to verify that your device or the software running on it is android compatible."
Googling has led me t believe that this is an error related to the app detecting root. I tried both of these methods, but neither has worked. http://bit.ly/1LnwzAZ http://bit.ly/1LnwEog . I've tried each separately with rebooting in between as well as trying them together all to no avail.
Other than following the guide above the only root-related things I have modified on the phone are the removal of some verizon apps via titanium backup and adding the following xposed module: "NoSafeVolumeWarning".
One thing that I noted was when I uncheck "Enable Superuser" inside of SuperSu 2.46 it displays a message saying "Uninstall Failed !" It still displays the "Superuser is disabled and hidden" underneath the box and if i enable it again and disable it it does not pop up with the uninstall failed message. Does this have something to do with write protection?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Adam

Having the exact same issue. Just upgraded to 5.1 today, xposed Rootcloak as well as No Device Check installed. Also tried Disable SU. Still get the same issue.
Same. I tried uninstalling SU, Hide My Root, and Rootcloak...nothing has worked. Found out today that the app updated when I went to buy something at Walgreen's. How ****ing embarrassing is that?
So I have not yet found a solution to this and am still hoping someone has one. In the mean time, you can install this app http://www.apk4fun.com/share/7185/ (doesn't need to be from this site, it's just an old version of google wallet, and the one I used), go into settings>apps>google play services>manage data clear all data, and reboot. I just tried it at cub foods and it worked fine, but of course you do have to go into the app first, and I had to disconnect it from the app store with titanium backup so it wouldn't update to android pay again.
Was able to get Amex card working after uninstalling Xposed. However, I think I'm going to pass on Android Pay until they allow pin codes on the app, not the phone.
Same problem, few apps frozen with TiBu and xposed installed. Any other work around? s

check to see if your phone allows pin codes to be deactivated at times. I have mine set to not be used at home work and if I am carrying the phone. It is quite useful feature in settings Lockscreen but I am on COS 12.1 OnePlus basically CM
I haven't tried it yet, but I think they only way we'll get this working on root is to install it on stock unrooted, back it up with TiB or Helium, root and then reinstall/restore.
Lots of fail here as well. All the tricks you all listed + some others. It seems there is a lack of consistency for those that resolved. Some just say disabling root, uninstall busybox, uninstall xposed, rootcloak, device checker for play services, etc.
Nothing yet has worked for me. Luckily I backed up Wallet just before taking the update, so I may go back until the community has a solution.

I'm in the same boat. Couldn't get AP to work. Just loaded up the previous version of Wallet. Now have two wallet apps, but whatever. Both appear to be working.
Has anyone tried to get Android Pay working by re-locking the bootloader and temp unrooting on a Nexus device (say, a tablet), then getting AP up and running, and then checking to see if it was usable on your other device(s)??....I was curious if Android Pay would work on ALL of your devices once it was set up properly. Working with lock, unlocking, rooting, etc. is much easier on a Nexus than it would be to work on a Moto, or similar.
Does this make any sense?

Hello,
I'm having issues with my new tablet. I followed the instructions outlined here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/amazon-fire/development/wip-achieving-root-thread-t3238152
And achieved root. All was well, but about 24 hours later, my tablet decided to restart, and when it rebooted, I no longer seemed to have root access. I then confirmed this with a root checker app. I still had the Google Play store, and the SuperSU app however. I checked using a file explorer and I still have an su file under /system/xbin.
I tried a reboot using the same method as above, but it seems to be failing because the files already exist. I tried uninstalling the SuperSU app using the full unroot option inside the app, but it simply says 'uninstalling, please wait' for a few seconds and then goes back to the home screen, SuperSU still there. I then attempted to restore to factory defaults, but alas the app remains and I am still unable to reboot (as well as losing all my data sadly). I am getting a drop down notification telling me that 'the SU binary needs to be updated' but that installation fails as well.
I'm unsure how to proceed trying to reroot my device, and feel stuck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, I'm not sure what caused the device to restart and me to lose my root in the first place. From what I've read trying to figure this out, an OTA update may of caused me to lose my root, so I'm also wondering if there's anyway to prevent this from happening again if I can regain root.
Thanks

I got a note 5 SM-N920W8 Telus last week. First thing i did was to upgrade to marshmallow, and then root it. I rooted it fine, wiping the phone in the process of installing the custom recovery. Now i've used plenty of apps that require root, and all have worked fine. About 15 minutes ago I try to go in "Ad away" to disable it temporarily to check if firefox was gonna to react faster on loading pages (it seemed so fast last week, but sluggish lately) only to find out Ad away is complaining I dont have root access anymore. So I go and check in SU , and sure enough, he also complains I don't have root. Marshmallow 6.0.1
Who deleted my root?
The only thing different I recall doing on my phone recently, and could coincide with me not noticing it between 2 apps that need root, was that in the settings, I went into "Smart manager". In there, I was curious to see what this "Device Security" (deactivated) could hold.
Anyone else has had their root removed? Or is there anything else I should look out for , background process or something , that targets my root? I just reflashed it, and it works fine again, but that just never happened to me before..
I have the same problem?? Did you get any answer from any body? Do I have to re root again?
Just flash super su in recovery. Same thing happened to me and i don't know what is the cause of the problem

Im having similar issues. 6.0.1 on my tmo note 5 rooted perfectly using Max Lee's method. However as soon as I rooted and transfered all my data back I did a nandroid backup. Happen to wipe my phone the other night and and restored the nandroid backup and as soon as it restored I lost root. Happens everytime I restore even a newer nandroid in twrp. Never had this happen on any root method on any note.
WTF..
It's happened again this morning.. Root dissapeared by itself. The only recent thing I can think I did , was buying a game (The cave) from play store last night.
Any way to identify what is removing SU ?
Flash SuperSU 2.74 and delete 'SecurityLogAgent'
I also lost root
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 on the Sprint Network. I just now noticed that my applications that require root access, including Titanium Backup are reporting that my device is no longer rooted. Weird. This has never happened in the past when I had rooted Samsung phones. I will re-flash the Super User file as instructed in this thread and see if that resolves the issue.
---------- Post added at 03:01 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:32 AM ----------
Per your insstuctions, I reflashed SuperSU 2.74 using TWRP. Then once my Note 5 rebooted, I launched Titanium Backup and found "SecurityLogAgent" and uninstalled it. However, in order for me to access TWRP I have to reinstall it using ODIN and immediately after I get the green "PASS" light in ODIN I have to quickly do the 'three finger' button press to launch TWRP. Weird....
Anyway, so far so good.
Thank you.

Yes, follow Battlehero's instructions (post #6) worked fine for me.

Thanks that worked to a certain extent. Titanium requesting root privileges for backup would still pop up as failed. Checking root would show as unrooted. The Superuser app was updated on the 5th of July 2016. Since I applied that update, i have not lost root on any of my devices.
2 days ago i rooted my G800F with CF-auto-root through ODIN. (Used the latest CF-auto-root from here , with ODIN v3.10.6)
But after that my device is too laggy!
Much slower as it had 512 RAM. Root success was confirmed with Root Checker
SuperSU was also installed but sometimes i get a message that SU binary isn't installed.
I 've tried with "ROM toolbox" and "System App Remover" to unistall some system apps but i got the message "Failed to Unistall xxxxxxx app". But if i entered again "ROM toolbox" i found out that the xxxxxx app wasn't there. It has been unistalled!
Once Play Store didn't let me upgrade some apps, because it said that i must logged in to my account (which i was already logged in), and others problems like that!
What shall i do now?
Root again the device? Unroot the device and root again? Unistall Knox? (i've read somewhere that Knox is responsible for problems after rooting). Find another version for CF- auto-root? (the latest is for Build ID LMY47X.G800FXXU1BPB2 but mine is LMY47X.G800FXXU1BPC4 if it matters)
Please help!
Yes, if you have root you must disable Knox. If it doesn't help, you can try go back to stock to see if it's a hardware issue (it will still lag), then root again if everything is fine for a day or two...

I have this device for about 2 years. These problems have begun just after rooting. So, i believe it is not a hardware problem.
By saying disable Knox you mean delete/unistall or freeze?
And how can i do that?

I would first use Link2SD to freeze all related to Knox and Security log first. If everything went right, backup and delete files.

I freezed all apps and having the word Knox in their names. The phone isn't so laggy now but if i open some apps for rooted devices such as Busybox or Rom Toolbox they can't operate and got a message that my device isn't rooted. After that, no others apps for rooted devices are working! The SU doesn't open at all! All will work again after restart (except ofcourse Busy box Rom toolbox)
So what shall i do?
Unroot and root again? Root again over the previous root? What else?

I thought that CF-Auto-Root disabled Knox protection when used, but maybe not... I think there is an option in SuperSU to disable it, you must use it as soon as you open it after using CF-Auto-Root and booting again to Android. If it doesn't have this option, it's not only Knox that makes the security system that prevents root, there is SecurityLog too (and on MM I think I've seen Rootpd that probably is a root protection daemon). Probably it removed su when you were disabling Knox. If you can root again over the current state, probably you can try disabling security system completely this time. Check other threads about rooting G800F, probably there is a list of apps you must disable.

Thanks for your anwser.
The SU isn't permanently removed but only temporarily, because after restart it is working again
I 'll try to unroot and root again and we 'll see what happens

SuperSU is the app, su is the superuser daemon. Good luck.

So finally the problems are still here. The device is no longer laggy, but the root sometimes works sometimes doesn't.
I root again over the previous root, again the same. I unroot and again root, the same. I install a custom recovery and flash the SuperSU, the same results.
Initially working fine, giving rights to the applications but later sometime does not. With restart reverts briefly again.
What on earth has gone wrong? I have root many devices and all of them were working perfect!
I would like to avoid factory reset because i don't know how to restore my backup without problems.
Is there another solution?
Knox disables root, it can even revert custom recovery. Did you disable it, as well as Security Log (disable its updates in settings first), as suggested previously?

Yes, i disable some apps with the word Knox in them. I don't know if is still a Knox app with a different name. Is there a list with Knox apps?
I didn't disable the Security Log neither its updates. Where can i find them?
So, finally i have a rooted device which randomly unroot itself!
And nothing can be done!
