Android 6.0.1 rooting problem - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried to root my device but I could not. I followed many things but nothing worked. So I tried to install prerooted firmware. Android 6.0.1 - 23.5.A.1.291 version
I got this error message.
[/COLOR]Step3 : Setup of dual recovery.
=============================================
Look at your device and grant supersu access!
Press any key to continue AFTER granting root access.
/system/bin/sh: /system/xbin/su: not found
Press any key to continue . . .
/system/bin/sh: su: not found
I don't get any message on my device about granting root access.
I have xperia z3 compact D5803, Android 6.0.1 - 23.5.A.1.291 UNROOTED version. I want to root my phone and I followed the steps but as you see above there is an error message. I can't continue other steps because of this interruption.
Can you help me for rooting my device?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/how-to-root-backup-drm-keys-t3013343
33- Copy resulting "pre-rooted" fw to /sdcard0 on your phone (it means copy flashable.zip from the PRFC directory to the "internal storage" directory of the phone)
34- Get Dual Recovery installer this time, from http://nut.xperia-files.com/ you want Z3C-lockeddualrecoveryX.Y.Z-RELEASE.installer.zip notice how thats 'installer' this time, not the same file as in 30!
35- Unzip it
36- start install.bat and follow instructions (hit 1 (allow adb/root on the phone as needed)
I could not pass beyond step 36.
Main reason for trying to root my device is when I got the latest update 6.0.1, my phone's volume gone low. Call ringtone volume and video volumes, message tone volumes are very low. I searched it why and found that I have to wipe cache. But I can't because my device is not rooted. That's why I am trying to find a solution.
Can you help?

Try rooting as written in that guide by restoring to KitKat

this method is old try this one ....

How-to:
* you need stock MM .575 or .291 firmware
* if you have .291 firmware, you need flash stock kernel.sin (575) via FlashTool and turn on your phone. After, when script done and you reboot in custom recovery, flash SuperSU, then turn off your phone and flash back kernel.sin (291)

Flashmode does not work. Flashtool can't find the kernels. I opened and extracted the zip files(kernel) but nothing changed. Can I use the fastboot method?
(I tried firmware and kernels both zipped and unzipped in the folder but flashtool couldn't see the files)

http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/development/list-pre-rooted-firmwares-6-oct-2015-t3218820
Above the link there is prerooted firmwares. I want to flash 6.0.1 firmware by using flashtool but when I choose flashmode, flashtool could not see the firmware. It is in zip format. I opened and extracted the fw but nothing changed. I changed the extension to .ftf but no change occured.
How can I install firmware by using the link above?
Can you help?

Ok well it seems there was some issue with my phone.
So I thought of repairing it first with PC Companion coz i wanted to be on safe side.
I was successful in repairing my phone.
Everything is fine. but after repairing I lost the root access.
That repair fixed everything.
Now I have couple of doubts which I think should be clear before I proceed for installing custom recovery and gaining root access
1) if I just flash the recovery using flashtool will that be fine? And then flash the SuperSu same way via flash tool.
2) I read in an article, the author there unlocked the bootloader, then flashed the Cwm recovery and then flashed the Doomlord's Advance Kernel with Cwm recovery.
My question is why did the author flashed the kernel again. Can't we just flash the recovery that's it?
And I guess to flash the Doomlord's Advance Stock Kernel unlocking of boot loader ws done? Is it true?
Thanks
Success is never final, failure is never fatal, it's courage that counts.

1- you cant flash recovery or superSU with flashtool, its used only to flash stock roms FTF
2- you can unlock the bootloader and then flash the kernel

I didn't do anything...i was going to try your method of flashing FTF stock rom.
so i just connected my phone to pc and then opened PC Companion to make backup of my important files.
Then PC Companion showed me that there is update available for system.
So i just updated my phone, it showed me updates available may be because, i have already removed all the bloatware so i guess to install them again that update was showing up
I went through that update process, and my phone rebooted and every single bloatware was restored back to my phone added i lost root access
at this point of time i think my phone completely free from any issues so its good to start again.
Now i have to start again from the begining.

Xperia Z1 wont start? Solution

After flashing a Kernel I could not turn on my Xperia at all.
I tried pressing every button but nothing.
I found an answer here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/help/xperia-z-booting-flashing-kernel-t2363288
that lead me to this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/general/tutorial-how-to-flash-stock-roms-t2240614
NOTE: in that post is mentioned that you have to install the device drivers, but the drivers didn't install; always merked error; still I managed to get my device on and running without those drivers.
Using this firmware (place it in the installation folder of Flashtool (example: C:\Flashtool\firmwares )
Name: C6906_14.4.A.0.108_Stripped.ftf
Link http://www.4shared.com/file/eaV6T1gsce/C6906_144A0108_Stripped.html
If the lilnk isnt working anymore ( is not my file) just search on google for the " C6906_14.4.A.0.108_Stripped.ftf " file, is around 20mb in size.
Download it and place it in the C:\Flashtool\firmwares folder.
Download flashtool here:
http://www.flashtool.net/index.php
Get the flashtool from that link, there are other pages that download some weird version of flashtool, which doesn't do anything at all.
----
Once you have flashtool installed, and the firmware " C6906_14.4.A.0.108_Stripped.ftf " on the folder mentioned above, do this:
1. turn on Flashtool.
2. connect your "off" device to the computer by USB
3. On the Flashtool screen, click on the thunder (located on the top left corner) and select "flashmode"
4. Select the firmware you added to the folder (you will know which by checking the device version on the list)
5. Once selected, on the right side of that window, you will see an area " exclude" and several options to click under it.
6. Click on everything, just leave the kernel clear. This means it wont install anything else but the kernel.
7. flash it
8. after this my device was turning on again!
My guess is that it works too for other Sony Z1 versions, just find the firmware for yours.
Thanks, but this is the Z section, not the Z1.

How to Root + install Custom Android ?

Hey guys I have an Xperia ZR and it's been having issues since Lolipop even down grading didn't fix the issue ( it keeps rebooting while using it ) so I want to install a custom android that is running Android 5.1.1 like CM 12 or anything that is better.
I already unlocked boot loader
I have the Latest Android update from 5.1.1
My Questions are
1.How do I Get Custom Recovery and Install Custom Android Room + Keernal
2.How do I Root the Phone ?
3.What is the Best Custom Android Running 5.1.1 ( and best Kerenal because I feel like the stock kernal is bad )
4.Is there like a Custom Android that will have also stamina mode ?
Please help so I can start using the phone again
Here Are Steps
Steps For Rooting Xperia ZR C5503 OR C5502
..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
downgrade your device to KitKat OS...........
Before moving forward, please make sure that you’ve read the pre requisites and ensure that you are set to go ahead.
Download the latest firmware Android 4.4.4 KitKat 10.5.A.0.283 FTF file.
For Xperia ZR C5502 [Generic/Unbranded]
Copy the file and paste in Flashtool>Firmwares folder.
Open Flashtool.exe now.
Hit the small lightening button on the top left corner and select Flashmode.
Select the FTF firmware file that you placed in the Firmware folder.
From the right side, select what do you want to wipe. Data, cache and apps log, all wipes are recommended, perhaps you may select if you don’t want.
Click on OK, and it will start preparing the firmware for flashing. This may take a little while to load.
As soon as the firmware is loaded, it will prompt you to attach the phone by turning it off and keeping the back key press.
For Xperia ZR, Volume Down key will do the job of back key, just turn off your phone, keep the Volume Down key pressed and plug in the data cable.
As soon as the phone is detected in Flashmode, the firmware will start flashing, Do not leave the Volume Down key until the process is complete.
As soon as you see “Flashing ended or Finished Flashing” leave the Volume Down key, plug the cable out and reboot.
That’s All! Congrats! You’ve installed latest Android 4.4.4 kitkat on your Xperia ZR.
---------- Post added at 09:55 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:54 AM ----------
Download the latest One Click Root Tool and extract it.
From the extracted files, execute the Run.bat file now.
A command prompt will open up requiring you to connect your device to your PC now.
Having the USB debugging enabled, connect your device.
Follow the on-screen instructions unless your phone is rooted.
Once rooted, disconnect your phone and turn it off.

Now phone is rooted, USB Debugging must be enabled.
Download latest installer for Xperia ZR from here. (Z-lockeddualrecovery2.8.xx-RELEASE.installer.zip)
Connect phone to PC using OEM date cable and run install.bat.
It will install the custom recovery.
Now work here is done. Lets move on to next step.
..........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
---------- Post added at 09:58 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:57 AM ----------
Custom recovery was installed in the first step.
The pre-rooted firmware was created and copied to phone in next step.
Now you have to turn off phone.
Turn it on again and press volume up or down to enter either TWRP or CWM recovery.
Now for TWRP recovery, tap Install > scroll all the way to bottom and select the copied pre-rooted firmware.zip file.
After selecting the file, swipe finger from left to right on the bottom to flash.
Once flashed, reboot your device and you will have pre-rooted 10.7.A.0.222 Lollipop firmware.
For CWM, select Install Zip > Choose Zip from SD card > locate pre-rooted firmware.zip file > select yes to flash.
Once flashed, reboot your phone and you will have 10.7.A.0.222 rooted Lollipop firmware.
Now verify root access using an app like Root Checker.
That’s all.:good::good::good::good::good:
thanks for the reply !
there is no root method on lolipop ?
so you want me to download a pre-rooted stock rom.
is it better than custom android like CM12?

Download any of the custom ROM's available ie CM 12.1, Resurrection Remix etc... Then search and download ADB/fastboot tool.. (it's the fastboot tool you'll be using)
Extract the ADB/fastboot tool to your C drive on your comp.
Open the downloaded ROM zip and extract the boot.img to the ADB/fastboot folder in C (try to find a boot.img that contains TWRP recovery.. The CM recovery is not good)
Place the ROM zip to your ext/int SD-card in your phone
Back up your data using nand-droid/Titanium etc
Search and find Gapps (flashable zip) for LP 5.1.1 and place in ext/int sd-card
Search and find Supersu (flashable zip.. most custom ROM's are kind of half rooted and need the supersu app to be installed) and place in your ext/int Sd-card
Power off your phone
Hold the VOL-UP button and connect your phone to your pc while holding the VOL-UP button.. You'll see first a red LED and then it turns to blue... you're now in fastboot mode
in the folder containing ADB/fastboot and your boot.img, place the cursor on an empty spot, press shift+right-click and in the pop-up, select "open command window here"
In the black screen, type "fastboot flash boot boot.img" and press enter.. (it will take less than 2 seconds to complete)
then type "fastboot reboot" and press enter... your phone will now reboot.
when you see the sony splash screen the LED will change color to green or pink... press VOL-UP on your phone while the LED is green/pink... hold the button and you'll see recovery come up..
In recovery, wipe cache, data, system and dalvik...
go back to main menu and press install.. navigate to where you have the ROM, Gapps and supersu and install all..
once done, reboot your phone.. (the first boot will take some time)
thats it, you're done.. You'll now have a rooted phone with recovery installed.

[GUIDE] Downgrade Zenfone 2 Laser to any official firmware

I have discovered multiple ways of downgrading ZenFone 2 Laser out of which two methods proved out to be easy and reliable. Both methods have been tested and are working.
Method 2 doesn't require root while method 1 needs root access.
Pre-requisite: Stock firmware zip file. You can find download links from index thread for all variants.
WHILE THIS GUIDE HAS VERY LESS CHANCES OF MESSING UP YOUR DEVICE, HUMAN ERROR CAN ANYWAY HARM THE DEVICE. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING YOU DO TO ANY DEVICE. YOU ARE DOING THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK
METHOD 1: Requires ROOT-
Short instruction:
Some users say you can downgrade by renaming the OTA zip to correspond to a higher version but that will NEVER work because the update script has this line
(!less_than_int(1457089250, getprop("ro.build.date.utc"))) || abort("Can't install this package (Fri Mar 4 19:00:50 CST 2016) over newer build (" + getprop("ro.build.date") + ").");
Click to collapse
The recovery reads ro.buid.date.utc value from buid.prop. If the value is less than the value in updater-script (like the value highligted in above quote) any recovery will not flash it, neither stock nor custom. Just increaase the value of ro.build.date.utc (in build.prop) to any value higher than the value in updater-script and then flash the zip via recovery.
Detailed Instructions:
1. Open updater-script from the firmware zip. It will be found in /META-INF/com/google/android inside the .zip
2. look at the first line (!less_than_int(1457089250, getprop("ro.bui....
3. The value 1457089250 is taken as an example, your updater-script may have a different value. Keep a note of this value.
4. Install any root file manager like ES file explorer (if you dont have already)
5. Goto /system (the system folder) using the root file manager. Grant root access if prompted
6. Open buid.prop file as text and look for the line "ro.build.date.utc=1446585430"
1446585430 is taken as example, your phone will have a different value.
7. Now increase this value in build.prop to any number greater than the value you noted from updater-script
for example, if my updater-script has 1457089250 this value and buil.prop has 1446585430 this value, I will simply change the value in build.prop to 1546585430 or 1448585430 or 1457089251. Any number greater than 1457089250 will work in my case.
8. Now reboot to recovery (vol down + power)
9. Select "apply update from external sd card" select your firmware zip file, and then select yes to flash. It will take 5-10 min
10. (optional but recommended) Wipe factory/data . If you don't do this, you will see the annoying "Android is upgrading.." screen which takes around 30-40 mins to reach home screen.
Method 2: Without root, requires computer
Short instructions:
As I mentioned earlier, recovery reads "ro.build.date.utc" But you can bypass this check by erasing system partition.
Just do
Code:
fastboot erase system
from fastboot mode and then flash the zip from recovery
Detailed Instructions:
1. Install Asus drivers to your computer. (link in index thread)
2. Download adb_fastboot.zip and extract its contents
3. Reboot your phone to 'bootloader mode'. To do this turn of your phone completely. Hold "volume down Up" button and then press and hold power button. Release power button after Asus logo appears and then release volume down button. Your phone is now in bootloader mode.
4. Connect your phone to pc via a reliable usb cable. Look at your phone screen. It should display "Fastboot mode!"
5. Now go to the folder where you have extracted all the files. Holding down shift key, Right click on any point on white screen. Then click on 'open command window here' from the menu that appears. Command Prompt will open now
6. On command prompt type
Code:
fastboot devices
and hit enter
and check if it is detecting your device.
7. Then type
Code:
fastboot erase system
(this will erase your current OS, you are warned!)
8. After it is done type
Code:
fastboot oem reboot-recovery
to boot into recovery mode
Successfully downgraded to 1.16.40.763 from 1.17.40.1234 without root
Thanks!

"Failed to mount /asdf" error is harmless you will get that error even on latest twrp. You can ignore the error and use the MM stock recovery like normal. Recovery will do its job it can format, install updates, clear cache and everything, you just need to ignore that /asdf error
But you can use any stock recovery from any firmware version lower than or equal to your current firmware version. Drawbacks: You cannot apply update to MM OTAs if your recovery version doesn't match the current firmware version.
Going back to stock 1.13 is a bad idea. I would recommend you to stay on MM since it has many performance improvements.
But still if you want to go back to lollipop, consider downgrading to the last lollipop update i.e. v1.17.40.1531
Xda Tips: 1. Never quote the entire OP (the main post here, called original post)
2. Don't say thanks, instead hit the :good: button
3. Use "Post Reply" option on top if you want to reply to a post. Use @username to gain attention of a user

I got a 412 mb ota update some days before. I downloaded it. Apply it for proceed. Then it start checking system as usual phone restarted. But update did not happened. Instead this same error show up. Then i can only reboot system. Got an update failed message.since that when i check for updates iam not even getting any. May be it will be solved by a factory reset .but even if i get an ota. The update wont proceed .because the recovery wont allow me to do that
And also that wipe cache partition also results the same error .so without solving this error i cant update to the latest MM too :/ .
In my experience, the most reliable method is to
extract the recovery from the version of stock ROM you want to upgrade or downgrade to
Flash that recovery with fastboot
Wipe /system in fastboot
Reboot to recovery and update with the stock ROM .zip
Or
Even easier, use Sziraqui's fastboot ready .IMG files and just flash them via fastboot.:good:
where can i find the recovery file in Stock rom

The recovery is included in the stock ROM zip file. Extract the zip and you will find it inside.
Presumably if you want to flash the stock ROM you have already downloaded it?

I found out that recovery for each firmware is available here. You should use a desktop browser to use this website.

Can ZE551KL use the recovery.img from ZE550KL? My ZE551KL has the extra 1700(AWS) band.
Please where are you guys downloading your stock rom from?
The stock zip is NOT flash-able like a custom ROM .zip. That's not how it works. If the Roms you have are custom recovery flash-able, they are not the OEM rom, they have been modified.
All the Roms I have come with a recovery.img file...
Then again if I have to explain how to use fast boot to flash the recovery, there is a good chance you shouldn't be messing around with fast boot.......

You don't need to unlock bootloader for flashing stock recovery that you downloaded from the above mega drive.
To flash the recovery.img (or any .img) You need to have Adb and fastboot files in your pc as well as Asus Zenfone drivers installed
All info and downloads for adb and fastboot can be found here
Search and download Asus ZenFone 2 laser drivers.
Once you have your pc setup with these tools,
With Administrator priveleges, locate the folder where adb.exe and fastboot.exe files are present. Hold down shift key and right click on that folder and select "open command window here". Then reboot your phone to fastboot mode [power off, hold vol up +power, release power when logo appears]
Connect your device to pc.
Type the following command on cmd
Code:
fastboot devices
Output should be something like this
Code:
FCAHSJSJJAKAK fastboot
This command will check if your device is connected or not
If output is blank, device is not being detected.
To flash recovery.img, copy the recovery.img file to the same folder where fastboot.exe exists and then type
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Output is easy to understand, if it says [OKAY] then flashing succeeded
Tried downgrading ze551kl by fastboot erase system then installing .zip from Asus website (via sdcard). All of the Asus updates except the earliest fail with 'fota return code 403'.
1.14.40.550 installs ok but then boots (gets as far as displaying the wallpaper), gives an error message in german (looks like 'android media process stopped') and goes into boot loop. Anyone seen this before?
Also, any way to build a recovery.img from the Asus update files?
invalid boot image whenever i flashed stock recovery, any one know why ?
What i do is flash the stock recovery and flash relock bootloader.

How to get back to stock rom?

Guys I ran into some trouble
I flashed the the eui 5.9 and now the battery is draining faster than stock rom.
I need to get back to stock rom. I tried downloading the stock firmware from dev-labs and installing the stock recovery .I changed the zip name into update and flashed it through the stock recovery but it's not working . It ended with some error .
I am Unable to flash through twrp too.
Can anyone help me ?
same here , volte isnt working in this version
got the solution ,
flash stock reovery first , then put stock rom in root directory of phone and rename the rom as update.zip
then from default file manager of phone open that firmware , then you will see update option , after that it will get installed

for stock recovery-
rename the rom to update.zip and flash if it does not work unlock your bootloader and instal TWRP
for TWRP-

2) remove first 2 line of code and save
3) go to twrp. (if it asks pwd cancel and swipe wipe-> advance dalvik, data, system, cache, ( internal storage if twrp asks for pwd)
4) connect to pc, copy the edited stock ROM to LE2
5) restart enjoy
(or)
if le2 is not shown in pc
4) go to advanced -> adb sideload-> swipe to start adb
5) in pc copy the rom to adb folder -> start command window there ->type this
Code:
adb sideload S2_X526-OS-OP-IIXOSOP5801910121S-5.8.019S.zip

I need to get back to stock rom. I tried downloading the stock firmware from dev-labs and installing the stock recovery .I changed the zip name into update and flashed it through the stock recovery but it's not working . It ended with some error .
I am Unable to flash through twrp too.
Can anyone help me ?
