Hello everyone,
I was wondering on how I would change the lock screen wallpaper of my R1 HD (Prime) edition? I rooted the device and I even got rid of all ads. However, on lockscreen, it shows the black/blue Amazon Echo wallpaper. I cannot select "Set As" -> "Lockscreen", because this phone does not give me that option.
I also tried to modify the framework-res.apk, however, I don't know the path to the lockscreen-wallpaper image.
Any ideas? (I'm hoping not to having to factory reset or anything).
I'm not sure how to delete a thread so I'll just post a solution. I actually followed this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/r1-hd/how-to/guide-ad-removal-debloat-block-ota-easy-t3429555
and I've flashed "bluR1-Prime_AMZ-FULLdebloat-blockOTA.zip" using FlashFire. Thanks!

Hi all. First I would like to thank you all the DEV here for all the useful tips/hints/apps to improve the KF experience. Since I'm a noob, I've been reading through the threads but the more I read, the more confuse I get so hopefully I won't get flamed for the questions below:
1. I have successfully rooted my KFHD
2. Installed KFFA on my computer.
3. My goal is to be able to install Google Play (read the thread, have not tried it).
4. Would like to be able to change launcher from the default Kindle to one's that allow wallpaper and customization.
From what I can comprehend, I'm guessing all requirement needed is to be rooted correct? or do I need to do the dual boot/twrp steps prior to this? Please help. Thank you

You are correct, you do need to be rooted, and that's it. No need for a second bootloader and TWRP. However, if you aim to have wallpapers enabled, you will need to use this fix here to enable wallpapers. Amazon, just to spite us, added this string to the bools.xml file in the Kindle's framework-res.apk:
Code:
<bool name="disable_system_wallpapers">true</bool>
...so you'll need to run the script to set the value to "false" and re-enable wallpapers.
Good luck!

Thank you for the response. I'm not sure how to run this script? Also what is the advantages of boot loader and TWRP? After running the script above, will the KF automatically boot on with the wall paper?

To run the script, simply download it, extract it to somewhere where you can find it, and double-click the Runme.bat file, and the script will run itself. After one or two reboots, you should have wallpapers back. If you need help, read the thread I linked to in the KFHD 7" Q&A section.
A second bootloader and TWRP are nice to have because they let you backup & restore Android partitions on the go; as well as install tweaks, mods, themes, and ROMs in the form of flash-able .zip files. If you want to give it a try, use this thread here. I've used it twice now, and it's been successful both times.
search for kindlefree
search and install kindlefree apk, maybe it is what you want.

I forgot about KindleFree. But it still doesn't fix the wallpaper issue.
If you put 2nd boot loader and twrp on and you are on a newer version of amazon os then you will boot loop into recovery unless u flash the included freedom boot in kinology, and I believe that only works with 7.4.6 and I heard 7.4.7 ota is out so you would need to disable ota's. This is assuming you are on a 7" device otherwise don't use kinology's freedom boot.

I have searched vigorously for a similiar problem with my phone and have found nothing. Ever since the Kit Kat update select applications do not have access to my photo gallery. Applications include Adobe Photoshop and the One's own messaging app. When I choose to select a photo from my gallery it simply takes me back to the album page when a photo is selected. This continues in a loop until I get frustrated and decided the photo didn't need to be edited or sent in the first place. Twitter however has no problem uploading photos from my gallery which I find quite odd. Any help or suggestions are appreciated.
As for the root questions I want to know what I can do with my phone. I'm on a Verizon stock htc one on 4.4 with s-on and a locked bootloader. I am unsure how to proceed with my phone. When I attempt to unlock my bootloaded I am confronted with the 160 error code. Should I purchase Sonics java s off or not? I am completely lost. Again any suggestions are appreciated
Thanks for your time and understanding

Its better not to mess with s-off and bootloader unlocking. Just backup your data and photos and make a factory reset
Factory reset would fix the photo problem?

Its a possible solution. Just remember to backup all your data before factory reset
I did a factory restore and the problem is still present

I don't understand how you could get this problem without rooting, but normally this is caused by screwing up the permissions of the data in /sdcard (copying data to /sdcard when the phone is running recovery rather than Android). To test this, rename /sdcard/DCIM to /sdcard/DCIM.bak, take some new photos, and see whether applications can access them properly.
The normal way to fix this is to change the permissions with the shell, but since you aren't rooted, you may have to copy the files to your computer then copy them back. You can use "adb pull"/"adb push" or try to copy using the easier and less reliable methods.
Galaxy S5 Boot animation like here :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80-Pwv1Q7Qk
How to install:
1.Download Root exploer (or something like lidroid file its has root exploer)
2.Connect to pc and copy the files
3.Copy the all files
4.Put them in system -> media
5.Change the permission to rw-r-r. (thanks vwmaniacx)
6.Click the thanks button <<
7.You are done !

I gave this a shot, and now my phones screen won't turn off, and the phone will not remain off. Ideas?
I don't know I got 4.4.2 you have this version?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using xda app-developers app
Yeah, I updated from 4.3 to 4.4.2. retained root, everything was good. Then tried this, and now I have that problem. Anyone just got the original stuff?
Edit: I unzipped the new 4.4.2 update, none there.
Edit 2: The power button works, but won't turn the screen off. also no widget made for turning the screen off will either. The only way the phone will stay off, is if you remove the battery, and put it back in.

CAUTION: Make SURE you really DO copy the new boot animation files back to your phone. Otherwise you run the risk of the power manager service continually checking to find out if the boot animation has finished, and that will result in disabling the power button's ability to turn the screen off and the ability of the phone to sleep in general.
There is very little help on the web for this particular issue, most having to do with broken power buttons and obtaining replacement phones/tablets, but in my case I was lucky and just happened to see the log entries scrolling by in the Android SDK's DDMS tool, which clued me in that the problem was with the missing boot animation files. I was JUST about to do a hard reset of my phone back to AT&T original ROM settings, with all of the pain that would've entailed given that as of this date we still cannot install custom recoveries on our very expensive pocket computers.

Helpful. :good
Edit: Found changing the permission fix the whole problem. You should toss in just to make sure they are set up rw-r-r.

Found this helpful, had same problem (not because of above posts). Could not turn off screen with power button etc. However this post put me on the right track. I just disabled all boot animations using ROM Toolbox Pro. And fixed said problems. Thanks
Thank you for this, I had already gotten rid of my carrier's boot animation but the Samsung one I had was boring. All the issues brought up in this thread are avoided as long as you set permissions. This worked on my Galaxy S4 Active i537
Worked for me as well on my AT&T i537. Didn't even download through my computer, just downloaded straight to my phone, moved with root explorer and put the appropriate permissions. Worked like a charm.
Custom animation
Hey how can i install a custom animation of my own?
Watch never updates past 5.0.1
Looking for advice...bought watch from another owner about 6 months ago...it has version 5.0.1 installed. About once a week, it says it has downloaded an update and is ready to install...but when I choose to do so, it goes to a screen that looks like a bunch of folder options for recovery, reboot, etc. No idea what to do other than pick reboot.
Is it possible that watch was rooted? If so, how would I un root it? Or how do I install the downloaded update?
Are you able to get it into bootloader? When it starts up swipe from top left to bottom right. You might be better off doing a factory reset from there and maybe even a manual update.
Thanks for the reply. I am able to get to bootloader screen, and did a factory reset. At that point, if I download update again in settings, it just ends up going back to bootloader screen at restart. Never applies the update...I don't know how to apply it manually from bootloader. help...?

Hello all, I recently bought a kindle fire 7 gen 5 and decided to root it and put the play store on which all went well. THEN, I made the mistake of allowing someone to talk me into changing my launcher from stock to apex. At first I liked how it was a familiar interface but soon I realized that many apps either crashed or wouldn't load. So I tired to switch back to the stock launcher but Apex refused to give up power over my fire. So then I tried to do a factory reset which just seemed to ignore the stock launcher and just sit there with a black screen. So now I tired to ADB sideload the stock firmware from amazon which I thought was going well but it hit 80% and gave me an error of "* failed to read command: No error" and so now my fire is sitting here with the message "Patching system image unconditionally..." and won't budge. Any advice will be much appreciated.
As to the methods of rooting I did, I just used the batch files from rootjunkysdl and it worked beautifully until the whole launcher change....

I did much the same to mine when setting up Google Now as the default launcher. When I added a second adult profile it didn't have a launcher to work with. A factory reset didn't work so I resorted to the ADB method of restoring the stock flash. This worked OK on mine, so you might want to re-download the stock rom (or check the MD5), The stock rom from Amazon was actually an earlier version than what was on the Fire 7 so ADB was my only option.
I followed this fella's guide

I tried that and that is where I got to 80% and it failed, I bought 3 of these tablets for my family, is there a way to use a backup file from one that is stock and apply it via SD card that you know of?
*Edit, as a desperation movie I tried a different USB cable and it was able to load the stock file just fine. Happy to be back to square one
I tried the SD card route first (copied the stock firmware image to the root of the internal storage) then checked for updates. It found the stock image OK, but refused to install it as it was older than the one already flashed to the Fire 7.

Did you try fastboot into one of the other recovery options CM/TWRP? They won't have any version restrictions and fire right up.
