Mi5 questions about Cyanogenmod and Bluetooth - Xiaomi Mi 5 Questions & Answers

Hi everybody,
at the moment I have a big problem. For about 3 weeks I bought a Mi5 pro.
I have spent about 2 weeks reading about the possibility to become root. So first unlock the bootloader (is already done), installed MIUI 8.0.2.0 stable global with MyFlash and after that, installed root (SuperSU) with temporary TWRP. I have done this way: http://en.miui.com/thread-309596-1-1.html
Everything went good. But I have massive problems with bluetooth. There are many threads in the net about bluetooth and MIUI, it seems to be a old case.
I have read here ( https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/smart-unlock-and-bluetooth-problem.32703/ ) that the problems with bluetooth come from MIUI. Because of that (and a little too because I dont like MIUI), I thought, that Cyanogenmod could be a chance. In first case for the bluetooth problem and in second case, because I like it.
Now I have a few questions about it.
I know how to install TWRP and this is not a problem. And install Cyanogenmod is really very simple.
1. If I install Cyanogenmod with TWRP, do I loose the unblocked bootloader?
2. If I want to go back to MIUI (dont hoppe that), because I have massive problems, can I make a full backup of my MIUI system now and later recover all like it was? Like Acronis TrueImage in Windows? And if it possible, how much about place does it take? I dont have many files likes videos or fotos. Just the system with some apps.
3. If I make backups from my apps in MIUI now with Titanium Backup (apps, settings, files), can I recover them later with Cyanogenmod? Or is something incompatible (some strings in the system or something like that)?
4. I really need root. Is there a version of Cyanogenmod with root or a simple way to do it in Cyanogenmod?
5. Is there a way to obtain OTA updates with a rooted phone from Cyanogenmod? Or every time I have to flash the whole firmware? In that case, the danger that something dont runs like it should is high.
6. Do you think I should give Cyanogenmod a try about the bluetooth problem or is it hopeless, because Cyanogenmod is based on MIUI?
I would be thankfull for every little help.
Regards.

1 - no
2- yes, backup will take max 3.3GB space (boot, data, system)
3- you can try restore them, if there will be some problem/force close just install app from play store
4- Settings -> About phone -> tap 8 times on "build number" -> this will enable Developer options. Now go to settings -> developer options -> Root access -> select what you want
5- If your phone is official supported by Cyanogenmod yes, check this website for you device: https://download.cyanogenmod.org/ If you find some UNOFFICIAL builds, you have to download full zip put on SD card and flash using TWRP. There is also UNOFFICIAL CM13 ROM with OTA update: http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5/development/unofficial-private-cyanogenmod-13-builds-t3426349
6- Cyanogen mod is NOT based on MIUI

Wow, that is what I name EASY!
But you say it is not based in MUIU, but what about that? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68597884&postcount=23
The talk about kernel sources, but is the same company. Maybe the bluetooth error is also in the kernel? What I dont hoppe.

And I read, that some users have problems installing CM13 with MIUI 8 installed, and that it is better to go back to MIUI 7 before installing CM13. Can anybody confirm this?

One last question: I would make a backup with twrp before. But everywhere I read, that it is better to that in a sd card. But my Mi5 pro dont have this. Is there a problem with this or is the backup in a safe place, even after I have installed CM13?

Xiaomi - company name (they release kernel source)
MIUI - system based on Android
Xiaomi released kernel source code so developers now they can build custom ROM, and for official CM support kernel source code are required With source code now they can even fix Bluetooth error- its impossible without source code. It's like application in Windows, you cant fix something inside that app if you don't have source code :]

That means, I need something like that or can I make a backup in the phone storage? Maybe does TWRP does this in a safe place of the storage? Or does it go lost, when I install CM13?

I am ready. Everything gone good
Is it possible to change the key to go back and recents apps? For years I work with the key to go back at the right side and the key for menu on the left side. In CM is the other way round.
And I dont want to use the softkeys, I want to use the hardkeys from my Mi5 (more display available).
Thanks in forward.

i have solved the audio via headphone in cm13 for mi5, but as i m not eligible to reply post in the rom forum, so everyone can't enjoy it

Fantastic! Finally we've got a rom of our very own, for which you've got my immense thanks. I'm very much looking forward to trying it out.
Unfortunately when I flashed it there was a loooong wait on the Samsung logo, and then... Well, after an hour I booted back to recovery to start over.
I honestly don't think your rom was the problem though, because from some point last night everything I tried - custom rom flashing and nandroid backup restores - wound up the same way. Odin + stock + root got a usable system at least, and today's been too busy to try again. But when I do I'll post back about how it goes.
(Sadly, I can't go back in time to see what order I did things and look for a pattern if this happens again. In case it might be useful to anyone, I know for sure I'd gotten stock set up comfortably and made a complete backup before giving thunderoar's T113 kernel a whirl, and that went swimmingly. Even had mounts2sd properly recognizing external sd set up after a long struggle, though not actually enabled yet. Don't know what else i did between making that backup and trying to flash this, but it's likely I just screwed something up somehow.)

Upgrade your firmware to PH5 before flash and use TWRP 3.0.2-0.
Firmware: http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SM-T113
TWRP: https://dl.twrp.me/goyave/
Wipe all partition in TWRP:
System, Cache, Dalvik and if you can internal Storage.

Thanks so much for responding even though I didn't specifically ask.
Pretty much all my knowledge comes from following instructions in these forums and piecing little bits of information together, so I've got a few questions - trying to understand the "why" behind these things in order to be more self-sufficient. Please feel free to point me towards resources where I can learn more!

When you install a rom, especially a TW one, in most case you need a specific Bootloader to cause it to start and work smoothly.
Wikipedia:
A boot loader is a computer program that loads an operating system or some other system software for the computer after completion of the power-on self-tests; it is the loader for the operating system itself. Within the hard reboot process, it runs after completion of the self-tests, then loads and runs the software. A boot loader is loaded into main memory from persistent memory, such as a hard disk drive or, in some older computers, from a medium such as punched cards, punched tape, or magnetic tape. The boot loader then loads and executes the processes that finalize the boot. Like POST processes, the boot loader code comes from a "hard-wired" and persistent location; if that location is too limited for some reason, that primary boot loader calls a second-stage boot loader or a secondary program loader.
The bootloader runs your rom with specific instructions, if the rom does not support an older bootloader simply does not boot. My rom does not support the older bootloader. A zip flash in this case cannot upgrade a delicate part like the bootloader. You need to flash the newer one with Odin.

The latest update for your country is PA5. Try with THIS.
Your country code is XAC.
The CSC (Sale Country Code) Is that part of the firmware that contains all the telephone operator customizations (e.g. WAP, MMS) for the intended country. As far as i know, It is not important for us.

Life has gotten in the way of playing around with this, but thought I'd send you an update as I said I would...
Your rom is running really nicely on my tablet as I use it daily. It's smooth and small, with no unexpected reboots or fc's on installed apps. Didn't wipe internal SD but it hasn't given me any issues with existing data (probably because there wasn't much to start with).
One thing that has caused a problem is calendar sync. It looks like you've taken out the actual syncing service, so when I try to access my calendars through any app I'm asked to add a new Google account, even though everything's already set up in "Accounts" under Settings. I haven't tried running the "calendars.providers.apk" from my other phone, that should fix the problem - but I don't want to use the wrong version and break something!
Also, I've confirmed that the only time I got mounts2sd working, it was with thunderoar's kernel. So guess that's going to have to wait.
A few adjustments I made to the setup were to uninstall all "unnecessary" system apps (not needed to run the device), and re-install them from the store. This way I've got 676mb free on /system and still over 1.5GB free on internal storage.
I've also added a multi-reboot menu to make getting into recovery or download mode simpler, and this is loading more quickly on your rom than stock. I've also had to modify permissions.xml to allow apps to access external storage by default, and made another tweak to disable the "loud volume warning" (don't remember quite what it was offhand).
Would you consider adding these to a future version?
Again, thanks SO much for putting this together, answering questions, and doing your thing. It's greatly appreciated!

One more question about this: The way you've worded the second paragraph seems to imply only that older bootloaders don't work with newer roms, so are newer bootloaders backwards compatible? Say I've got the PH5 bootloader installed and I want to restore a backup of the previous firmware, do I have to flash that firmware first?
Sorry if it seems obvious, this is how we learn!

T113/T113nu and T116/T116ny have a similar codename and hardware (The recovery have goyave codename, therefore any rom with goyave codename can be flashed). For the hotspot, maybe some missing libraries, a different driver or a different kernel makes hotspot broken. Try to restore your kernel from a previous backup.

Start your phone into recovery and Flash the Treble recovery, if already not flashed. Restart into Recovery.
Click Wipe then Advance wipe and clear System, Vendor, Data, Cache, and Dalvick cache.
Above May have Mounted the System and Vendor after clearing.
Unmount the System and Vendor
Flash LOS-15.1 Rom as a normal zip ROM flashing process and DON'T reboot into system (this will make your phone treble enabled and update vendor automatically). No need to flash anything else.
Second step
Clear/ wipe System only
Mount the Vendor again
Enter the File management in Recovery and Delete following files:
/vendor/etc/permissions/qti_permissions.xml
/vendor/etc/permissions/qcrilhook.xml
/vendor/etc/permissions/telephonyservice.xml
/vendor/framework/qcrilhook.jar
/vendor/framework/QtiTelephonyServicelibrary.jar
/vendor/app/ has *.apk, delete /vendor/app/*.apk remaining (all apk in all sub-folder under /vendor/app/ folder)
Now Extract the Downloaded Rom files in Recovery backup folder. You should know where and how to Extract. (Use unzip in pc and copy paste to recovery backup folder.)
Click Restore and Select only System and Swipe to confirm. Wait for restore to complete. If any error, Mount the Vendor and try again Restore System process. After Restore completes DON'T Reboot.
Third step
Mount the Vendor and System again.
Flash Patch1 and Patch2
Mount the Vendor and System again.
Flash BrightnessFix, WifiFix and SoundFix
Clear only DATA and boot into System. Wait for upto 10 Minutes or more to boot into System.
Warning: When you Flash the patch files, please mount the System and Vendor first to avoid error 7.
What work:
Camera, Fingerprint, Face unlock, Wifi, Sound, VoLte (No ECHO issue), Auto Brightness, OnScreen HW buttons
What doesn't work:
Some people can't log in to Xiaomi account. Don't try to Flash Dolby sound.
The dual 4G is not working. There may be potential signal problems for some user but I didn't faced in Delhi with Airtel operator. Eye protection mode/ reading mode.
Since base MIUI Oreo rom is Chinese version no Gapps included. To get Play store DO'NOT flash Gapps. You need Google app to have Play store working. Search on Google for more info or try as per link (https://www.techadvisor.co.uk/how-to/mobile-phone/install-google-play-xiaomi-3676150/).
Guys, this is a nearly perfect MIUI Oreo package for our lovely Xiaomi Mi Max 2 (Oxygen), miui pie's camera can't be used in this ROM. Since Xiaomi does not released the updated Kernel source for our Device, user may not be able to change the In Call Volume.
If I missed anything in the above, kindly let me know to include. If you found any further update/ patch that makes this ROM more stable/ perfect or enables new feature, please don't hesitate to ping me to include in this thread.
I am not including any Screen Shot as all MIUI Roms looks same and there is No UI change based on Android Version in MIUI.

I already tried many Pie roms and in my view we need Sound fix and Brightness fix (Pie based) to boot into system. Pie roms boots till boot animation and reboot itself before initial setup screen.
Anyway you can try and check where is the issue as you are a developer. I am sure you will find the solution.

[ROM]-Working MIUI 11 EU PIE for Mi Max 2 Oxygen [9]-[stable-ish]i

Android Version : MIUI-11-EU-PIE Easy recovery install.
You should be having proper knowledge of flashing Custom ROM and how to Restore a phone if anything goes wrong.
Take complete backup before taking any action based on this thread. I am not responsible for any action taken by you.
I am just compiling all the information / files available on different websites into this thread, I have patched together with cyber spit, bubblegum, and tape, for a pretty much fully working MIUI-11--EU-PIE running rom. With the help from Mohzuned. I have removed what I believe to be all of the bloat. We worked to modify a working pie vendor. Magisk v20 modified boot for root access, Just install magisk manager.
All Credit goes to respective developer/s. I request XDA moderator and or Developer of Respective files to let me know if I have forgotten to mentioned (give credit) their name in this thread. The Download Links are given directly from respective Developer/s.
You need the following two files to Test MIUI-11-EU-PIE on Mi Max 2 (Oxygen). This ROM recovery is ported from the Xiaomi RedMi with many patches and customized from various sources. This ROM maybe Stable enough for your daily use on Mi Max 2. I have access to two MM2 4/64 Global versions using a 1tb sd card one on At&t the other on Tmobile and MOST features I need are currently working.

Third step:
Click Restore and Select System, Boot, Vendor and Swipe to confirm. Wait for restore to complete. If any errors, Reboot recovery and try again. Or Mount the System, Vendor, Boot and try again. After Restore completes Reboot. Please allow 1-2 Minutes for first boot.

What doesn't work:
?
If I missed anything in the above, kindly let me know to include. If you make any further updates / patches that makes this ROM more stable / perfect or enables new features, please don't hesitate to message me to include in this thread.
I have an old PC running windows with 8gb max HDD at any one given time, So if you would like to make the recovery image into a flashable zip, I'd be happy to update/add it.
If you can afford it, Im trying to save for a computer from this decade, any help is appreciated

Bro.......
I cannot find the fingerprint option in the rom..?
Firstly I upgraded from the nougat rom.,it made me to suck....it booted but instantly rebooted to recovery on every boot......
Cannot find the fingerprint option ..,Cannot add the face unlock option due to the camera bug...,it's harder always using pattern/pin.,? flashlight ? issue is negligible.....
But mi cloud has no issues and working fine able to login..
Home button isn't working.,full screen guesture option isn't seen in the rom..
May be it's because of the redmi note 4x....it might be good if it's from max3 or mix2s as u done previously.,only hotspot bug majorly
You are too good bro....,you are beastly fast and tough..,???

How to root Samsuny S9 G960F on Stable Android 10?

I wouldn't recommend that on a main upgrade. It can give unwanted consequences. I always advocate doing a full reset on these.
---------- Post added at 09:49 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:02 AM ----------
Oh, btw, for my part it has to be a Magisk or similar root, since any visible root prevents me from using many apps I need to have, like VIPPS (Norwegian money transfer app), mobile banking, Google Pay and so on.

Thats the new verify thing from samsung.
The part is, that the system mount point is after init process. The init part has a dynamic mounting part and that is the problem actually.
The recovery rooting is also not working, of part from mounting issue.
I have check the mounting part, with a rooted recovery. At the moment we can not mount the system partition rw.
One way is to find a way patch the init part....but the way is open.
I hope john can help us....
Android 10 root solution found. Installed alexndr rom based on stock android 10. Working flawlessly with ElementalX kernel. Super smooth & snappy. This rom comes preloaded with Magisk root 20.3 & all the unnecessary stuff removed. Just flash the rom in twrp. No problems in flashing without wipeing data/factory reset. Completely stock looking firmware. No extra app added. Please check it out if anyone wants root on Andorid 10. Links below.

After this modification, is the system "/" partition read/write "rw" mountable?
I wouldn't call that a solution, I'm guessing that this ROM isn't available in Norwegian Telenor version.

Yes. Correct. 1st TWRP, then this rom. If you want to use any Custom Kernel like White Wolf or ElementalX, flash custom kernel after flashing the rom, then Magisk after it.

Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro decryption issues and flashing woes

Phone: Xiaomi Mi 9T /K20 Pro
Current Rom: Miui Global 12.5.1
Wanted Rom: Stock google/pixel with all google apps, but without the awful miui interface
Evening everyone.
I would be very grateful if some kind soul can assist me. I'm trying to replace the standard and hated miui rom with Evolution X (Raphael) rom or any other recommend rom. So far I've successfully managed to connect the phone, setup usb drivers and unlocked the phone as well as used fastboot to flash twrp-3.7.0_9-0-raphael.img.
So far so good, but here's the questions I have or issues I'm having:-
Even though I have removed all screenlocks, the phone files on twrp are still showing as decrypted. I've also deliberately put on a screenlock and then booted to twrp, but I get no messages or request to enter a password. FYI, if I go to Settings>Privacy, the phone does state that it's encrypted.. Other than flashing twrp-3.7.0_9-0-raphael.img, I have also flashed many other versions of twrp, but they all do the same thing, i.e. no mention of any screenlock or decryption.
Although I can flash twrp, if I reboot, it reverts back to miui stock recovery. I then have to reflash twrp image to get back in. Is there a way to keep it installed permanently?
I'm also confused whether I need to root the phone. Is this compulsory and if not, and is it worth it?
Lastly my main goal is to install a rom without the rubbish miui. I still want all google apps, camera, nfc, and everything else to work, but with so many custom roms available, it's getting confusing. Can you please recommend one that is new, popular and has all the standard google apps/rom and stuff?
Thanks in advance.
Apologies - Just BUMPING this up as no reply.

It's a version of orangefox twrp with a fix to support android 13 encryption. Guides on how and what to install are usually provided by the ROMs developers, since each ROM requires different software and steps. I don't think anybody can really recommend you a specific custom ROM, since most of them have their quirks and bugs, but I tried both EvolutionX and VoltageOS and both were running fine on my device (both android 13), now I'm running lineageos 20 unofficial and it runs fine too.
I see you want to install EvolutionX, and you will find all info on their thread, and should ask support for that specific ROM on that thread.
Sorry @vito_metallica, when I was asking for a guide or link, is was not for how to install a ROM, but how to install the orangefox twrp. Last thing I want to do is to brick the phone, lol.

Extract the zip and there is a recovery.img file inside. Maybe try it before actually flashing it (fastboot boot recovery.img)
And finally flash with fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
EDIT:
Just wanna say, thanks so much @vito_metallica
Believe it or not, I've now edited this same post 5-6 times, because each time there was an issue, I'd edit the post again and again, lol.
Good news! I've managed to successfully install the EvolutionX rom.
I've had a play around and its a brilliant rom. Just a few issues which I hope I can iron out:-
The Android System WebView won't update - I've tried to uninstall, clear cache/data etc, but it still won't work
Is there a way to remove, relocate or hide the bottom Google Search Bar? - I never tend to use it as I find it annoying, so I would prefer to totally remove it if possible.
Thanks again

- Did you also clear cache and storage of Play store? If nothing works you could still install updates manually via apkmirror or you could install Chrome and use that as system WebView ( you can switch in dev settings ) or you could use Bromite system WebView ( search on GitHub for info about installation)
- If there isn't an option to remove the search bar you could still switch to a different launcher like lawnchair or Nova Launcher ( which I personally prefer), but maybe you should ask the EvolutionX devs first, since maybe the stock launcher has features built in that you would lose if using a custom one.

I always thought by clearing the cache/storage , it would cause major issues, like apps stop working. Am I actually safe to do this without any ill-effect? Will it still remember that I'm logged in and what apps I've already downloaded/updated?
Regarding the bottom google search bar - I think I read somewhere this is built-in and it can't be removed without causing major issues. I guess I'll just have to live with it.
The other issue I've found with this rom is that after disabling gestures and re-enabling the 3 navigation buttons (which I prefer), they are the wrong-way round, i.e. I prefer the back button to be on the right-hand side. So if you know any way of fixing this then please let me know.
I'll post these questions on the dev's chat too.
Thanks for all your help and advice.
