Hello all,
I have a Xiaomi mi 5 and in MIUI there was a option that the physical home button would detect of you touch it, making it the same as a virtual home key on any other device.
Now i've flashed Cyanogenmod but there is no option in it, is there perhaps another way? Since i'm running CM13 and i have xposed i'm not sure where to post this question so i hope here is the right place.
Thanks!
This feature is yet to be implemented in any of the custom roms as it required kernel source of mi5. The kernel source has been recently released by Xiaomi so hopefully devs are working on it and will implement this feature is coming builds.

What would it take for a developer to be able to release a Lineage/CM type ROM for this phone? Do you guys think it is a possibility in the near future or will this never happen?

Source code for starters is probably helpful, and that might take a while with xiaomi....

I've experienced that with the Mi5, Cyanogenmod builds came very quickly after Xiaomi released the kernel sources. I'm also waiting for them, this device would be so much better with Lineage OS, or anything other than a MIUI rom, although the EPIC rom is getting fairly close
You can follow the official github for xiaomi devices here: https://github.com/MiCode/Xiaomi_Kernel_OpenSource
Mi5 owners also did a petition though, asking Xiaomi to release the kernel sources for the mi5, maybe we should do the same for the MIX ?

Right but its not a true build. It's using the sources that were released for the Mi5s.
i am very confusing times with the talks
some of the dev said lineage team will deliver lithium rom when device hits the android 7.0 update
sooo can we build a aosp marshmellow rom or ve stay awake for the xiaomi to release the kernel for mix?
there is nothing at all to be confused about. if there is no source code released there will be no AOSP. we should be bugging Xiaomi for the source, if that was out we'd have AOSP roms already.
probably best to make a thread on the MIUI forums to urge them to release source

If you know of any threads that pressure MIUI let me know would love to bug them a bit for source code lol

MIUI is not open source.
If you want an open source OS, do not buy a xiaomi device.
Xiaomi does not release the source code, even if they use as base the android code which is open source (this is permitted by the Apache license).
They don't even release the code of the modified kernel, even if they are obliged by the GNU GPL licence of linux.
Does it mean we get never lineage or resurrection Rom,?

someday perhaps, it may though take some time
Unless Xiaomi release Mi Mix internationally, I don't see this happening anytime soon. The relatively small user base doesn't help either.
The Mi Pad source was only released three years after release, to give you an idea.
Like most Mix owners, I love the phone but hated its software. MIUI is just not for users outside of China.
This is my first Xiaomi phone and will probably be my last. Will either go for Google phones or OnePlus.

Here is an unofficial Resurrection Rom

Guys sign the below link for petition for santoni kernel sources must be released https://www.change.org/p/xiaomi-dev...m_medium=copylink&utm_campaign=share_petition
Plz sign the petition if you guys want that the kernel sources must be released.
If kernel sources aren't released yet, how is it possible that there are some custom ROMs already out there?

Dude without kernel sources the devs cannot build or modify custom kernels. Else it has nothing to do with roms as the rom sources are ported from lineage or aosp sources and modified accordingly. without kernel sources there isn't much room for kernel optimisation and modification for better performance or battery as the devs have to use the stock kernel of the device.
So those custom ROMs are using the stock kernel, copied from the original MIUI ROMs?

Yeah with few optimizations and changes.
Xiaomi / every android manufacturer has to release the kernel sources anyway, right? Is there an ETA, or how long does it usually take for a xiaomi device for the sources being released? I am considering buying this phone.
2nd question: rooting or unlocking bootloader goes with the manufacturer's page right? I checked it out and it was in chinese, me as an english user, will i manage to get the phone unlocked?
Petition is signed anyway. I also contacted the global service through mail asking about the REDMI4X32_GLB_BLK kernel source release. Will keep you updated if I get a response
Edit: I just ordered a moto g5 but will keep u updated if I should get any info from xiaomi support.
Edit2: Reply from the Xiaomi team:
Greetings from Xiaomi!
Thank you for writing us. I will be glad to assist you.
I understand that you wish to know regarding the release of Kernel source. I would like to inform you that as of now we do not have any such update and provisions regarding the launch of Kernel source for the Redmi 4X, so we would not be able to guide you regarding the same and the reason behind its non-release. You may refer our Official Website http://www.mi.com/en/ and Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/xiaomiglobal for more information.

Still no response?
Greetings Friends,
I have seen very little development or developers for this device is very rare because the A1 before releasing the Kernel already had development, and this device was already released the kernel but I still see little development.
Yeah i dunno why developers not intrested in this device
How long ago did they start selling these devices?

Longer than A1 when it takes first customs
Before Launching the source code of the A1 Kernel and there were ROMS and Magisk modules for this phone, the participation is very minimal, I think they were all for the RN5.
I just hope developers will have a look at Mi A2. Is it too early to expect development?

Lineage for the A1 started 6 months after the release.
edit: Also the Pie update is near so probably nobody wants to waste time on bringing up a 8.1. based rom.
Another thing is that it has Treble GSI A/B support, so you can install a variety of already popular roms right off the bat. I know a custom kernel is under development that has both overclock and underclock as well. I am currently using the Arrow GSI rom and it works very well. I have xposed and root, I also get way better battery life than with the stock rom. The only bug I have is the front flashlight turns on when I use the front camera. You can flash any of the A/B roms on this site if you want more roms.
It even includes Pie roms and lineage os. I see no reason devs would want to spend time making something that already exists.
They will most likely work on kernel development/tweaks to fix bugs in the already existing treble roms, like the camera bug in the rom I am using.
Just a question for the future. Are there custom roms like Lineage OS coming for Mi 11 Ultra?
Probably just a matter of time....
It's available for most of the earlier devices already: https://www.cyanogenmods.org/lineageos-18-mi-10-pro/
I don't think it will show up anytime soon...
When I got MiNote10, it was one of few phones with new 108MP camera sensor, developers had bad time trying to find drivers, or do anything to be able to use camera, as Xiaomi release only part of source code for this phone. As for now, there is no official LOS for MiNote10, just UNOFFICIAL, and the phone was released around November 2019 ?
MI11 Ultra also have new camera sensor GN2, display on the back, new chipset, I wish to see LOS or other custom ROM, but I know how hard is to build custom ROM for new hardware if you don't have drivers/source code.. Only hope in Xiaomi if they release complete source code needed to build ROM.
We'll have to wait for the popularity of this phone to go up first. Might take a while. But with miui12.5 being the crap fest that it is right now... I hope we don't have to wait too long for an aosp based ROM to come out
I would voluteer for testing... anything is better than this miui crap. So, anyone, please DM me, if you need a tester.
And put TWRP on the list. I might suffer from a good old fashioned paranoia, but kind if don't trust the current distributions of TWRP for the MI11U.
