[Q] Internal Memory / SD in HTC One. How it is managed?.

Hello everyone. Some questions from a rookie .
I installed the ROM ARHD11 on top of ARHD10.3 and this in turn on top of the original HTC ROM One. Now, trying to make a backup copy of the system using recovery and looking were it was placed, I have seen that the internal memory is in / mnt / shell / emulated. However, I've also seen that there are several equal files in other folders. I do not know if they are virtual links of real folders or folders that take up real space. In the previous mobile I used (SGS I) I had an internal SD and an external microSD and always knew where the files were (and more important, I knew which one I could erase).
The folders I've seen that have the same files but do not know if they are real folders are the following ones:
/ sdcard /
/ storage/emulated/0 /
/ storage / emulated / legacy /
/ storage/sdcard0 /
/ mnt / shell / emulated /
Could someone shed me some light on the subject or point me a link that explains a little about these folders?.
Thanks a lot !,
José
Some general info:

Also, if the contents are the same, it's probably a soft link. Try putting a new file into the root of your filesystem as viewed on your computer and see if it appears elsewhere.

Hi, after many test, I choose to post all my find
I'm Sorry for my bad english !
Need :
Ouya (of course)
Root
USB OTG Helper ( PlayStore or Sideloading apk )
FileManager ( or other root file manager )
Difficulty : Middle
NTFS Write Support
1 - Disable automount hdd usb :
With Root File Manager ** Open the file /system/etc/vold.fstab and add " # " before line dev_mount usbdrive...., save
2 - Install USB OTG Helper
3 - Set auto mount in setting
4 - Reboot and Profit
Your harddrive is mount in /sdcard/OTG with NTFS Write Support
OBB On external USB Drive ( NTFS or other )
1 - Copy obb directly on your USB Drive ( Name folder is not important )
2 - Download or sideloading gscript lite
3 - create a script with su :
mount -o bind /"your hdd directory"/obb /sdcard/Android/obb
For example : mount -o bind /sdcard/USBOTG/obb /sdcard/Android/obb

I had to create a mounting point script for each drive otherwise they would occasionally get shuffled around on system restart. I guess the only way to get auto mounting is to install the playstore using the plus version?
How can I even edit the vold.fstab file?
edit: Installed the root tools using ES File Manager, then it worked.

Screw OTG USB Helper. I prefer Paragon now. It mounts to /mnt/usbdrive by default and doesn't require input to remount at boot.
I try Paragon and if I not edit my vold.fstab it's don't work ...

Weird, I never had a problem and never had to edit any files to get an external hard drive working with it loaded.

Sometimes when I restart the ouya if I have more than one drive mounted they'll get out of order for example the drive that was mounted in drive_1 will be in drive_3. So I thought there could be some script created in each harddrive to make usbotg mount the drive in that location every time.

Yeah but the big thing about it is that it Paragon mounts to /mnt/usbdrive which is the Ouya's default mounting point. I thought it mounted ext3 but I guess not. Doesn't matter much to me because NTFS is the file system for my drive anyway.
Couldn't get Paragon to work (always have Error code 1 Device or Resource busy), but Stickmount by Chainfire seems to be working. Can't write to the drive though...but it's mounted at /USBDrive/ apparently. Tempted to format to ext3 or 4, but writing with Windows is more important to me...probably just my drive (WD 2TB USB 2.0)
Are you fully rooted? If so, then this is just weird to me. I don't get how you guys are getting errors. It's just an Ouya. I've not done too many special things to my Ouya other that full superuser access. I don't get how you would end up seeing any of these problems.

I was able to sideload stickmount https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.stickmount&hl=en though I had to install twice for it to actually install but it seem to work pretty nice. It still mounts under sd card but I prefer that since I use sambafilesharing app and it can only access sd card and not root.
Anyone having issues with gscript crashing once you run the script? Also... what EXACTLY am I doing once this is all set up and running?
Install game
Place obb folder in my new OTG drive
Should the game just work then?
Yes sometime here too, but the script work, not you ?

check if you have any files in /data/media
in 4.1.x the internal storage was /data/media
in 4.2.x the internal storage is now in /data/media/0
some files may not have migrated correctly, so you could have duplicates
PS: ES Explorer has to be in root mode

9.8gb sounds about right.
Maybe when you have some time, backup everything you need to your PC then format internal storage from recovery, and copy everything back to phone. That's the best way to get your phone completely clean.
Also if you use CWM recovery, you should create a symlink. I'll look for the instructions when I'm on my computer and post it for you.

thats normal, two copies are supposed to be there.
leave it auto mounted.
also if you check your storage in settings you'll see that it is the SD card storage that has decreased most, whilst the Internal Storage decreased very little.
regards
Can You show me the difference because this is silly. I do it for free space and now i have two copies of the obb file with the same size. I thought that when i do it it's move all files on sd card.

You should have free space,
I have over 10 GB of games stored on my SD and almost 9gb free internal storage

Maybe you don't have to copy the files to sd via Folder Mount, because you will copied them, but you have to put them to SD card first and then Mount the folder to system with Mount Folder. That is how it should work.
I firstly copy obb to internal memory then use Folder Mount. Is this correct?

I never used Folder Mount but actually this application do his job to mount the folder to system, so the application will go read to SD instead of internal memory, so to me do not make sense put the OBB to internal memory and then copy the file to External. The name speak by it self, Mount Folder, that mean you have to copy the folder to SD and then Mount the folder to system. I just saying, to me this is the logical way but I never used that app so try to do it like I said, maybe this is the solution.
Ok. Very nice conclusion. First install the app, then copy file on external memory ( micro sd card) then Mount it, use it like a source. I will try it and give you a raport, what heppend
I tried this method but it doesnt work :/

One is a ghost copy. The space is usable. Otherwise there would be no point. It has to remain on the internal otherwise the game would continue to redownload the files. You've done everything right.
I wrote a tutorial on how to use folder mount properly but so far as I can tell youve done it right.
As a rule of thumb, always check your internal memory in settings / storage before and after installation of the game / app.

Ok, following your instrukction i check my connections in Folder Mount. My game Deus Ex :
1) Internal memory ( checikng file size in Es Explorer ) - size 687,10 MB obb files + data 2,17 MB
2) External memory - size 687,10 MB obb files + data 2,17 MB
In Folder Mount my pushpin is green. I done everything correct follow instruktions found in the internet. Game is working but still dont understand WHERE IS THAT FREE SPACE ? Sorry maybe i am not to smart for that or it is to big work for my little brain :|
What type of partition i need to do on my microsd card?

You do not need to partition anything m8.
So long as you've followed the instructions and it's saying that you've not used any memory then youre good to go.
following exactly the same instructions i've installed several games and my internal memory has gone down by 0% which means that I have that space to use elsewhere, if i had not mounted them games to the SD card then I would have easily consumed my internal memory, as it stands I currently have around 9GB.
So as a rule of thumb, so long as your internal memory hasn't gone down after mounting compared to how it was before you installed the game, the mount has been a success.
Don't use the file explorer to check for size, you'll get a negative result from it and it's not accurate, afaik it has to report that the files are still there otherwise the game would reinstall itself.
Use the systems memory checker to see how much space is left.

Hey guys I just have a problem with my old i9000... I know that the emmc is dead but what I don't understand is that I can see my old files in the CWM...
And after a reboot with an SD card (ext2 and fat32) it show German language(FC of systemapps in german) but I didn't change the Language to German after I reflashed with Odin . So I'm a bit confused and my phone too lol.

I think this is due to corrupt files in your Internal , making it impossible to write, the undermentioned method should fix it
If your phone is rooted
use terminal emulator
type su for superuser mode
Code:
type su
type fsck_msdos -y /dev/block/vold/179:3
above command will delete the corrupt file and fix read only problems in Internal SD card
BUT you need to make sure your internal SD card is mounted as 179:3 or it has a different reference NO.
so use system info apk or any other to find out the correct mount point of your Internal SD card first.
