I bought a type c to HDMI cable, hoping it would work with my TV Unfortunately it didnt, anyone know another way round this or if elephone are going to get a set up for this as I'm really wanting to watch the phone 4g access through my TV (not casting) as I've no phone line so no wifi, or access to one!!!!!???
Screen mirroring or Miracast will be your only option. You can also set up a hotspot if your smart tv is Wifi compatible. Alot of new phones have no MHL compatibility.
You can use chromecast with localcast app for media on your phone or stream off 4g using chromecast compatible apps without mirroring. It works with personal hotspot but you need a second phone to do the initial chromecast setup.
You can use a DisplayLink USB graphics adaptor and the DisplayLink app from the Google app store. It works for me.
I also can use a Dell D3100 docking station, for HDMI output, and keyboard _ mouse input.

What rom did you use and what DisplayLink USB graphics was that? I tried my own one, but it kind of didn't wanted to work.
Also, I'm really curious: Did the D3100 charge your phone while being used with stuff connected to the dock?

Currently the P9000 does not use the Dock audio output, nor the audio on my plugable USB3-HDMI-DVI adaptor.
I don't know if it used to to audio before the latest firmware.
---------- Post added at 05:13 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:08 AM ----------
I have also used this device with much success, with Dell Android Tablet, Windows laptops, Motorola Moto-G: http://plugable.com/products/usb3-hdmi-dvi/
It "works" with P9000 but currently is not passing audio over HDMI. I can't remember if I ever had that working on earlier firmware.

Hi,
I just received an OEM Micro USB to HDMI adapter today.
I connected my Note to the adapter and then to the HDMI cable of my TV.
Unfortunately there is no HDMI signal on the TV side.
Now, I don't know howto activate TV output on the Note. I don't even know if that's possible.
Can anyone guide me on how to activate HDMI output on the Galaxy Note ?
Should I make any settings ?
Should I play a video ? (or would it give out video from HDMI even at home screen ?)
Should I power the phone and/or the HDMI adapter through USB ?
Thanks.

Connect HDMI cable to MHL adapter, and other end into TV. (duh...)
Plug your charger cable into the MHL adapter. (output won't work without this)
Plug your MHL adapter into Note. (no configuring required!)
Everything you do on your Note will be mirrored on your TV/Screen, at the Note's native 1280x800 resolution. Plain and simple!
Video's that are played via the MHL adapter will be played at their own native resolution, up to and including 1080p.
Enjoy!
thank you.
it doesn't work unfortunately.
maybe my adapter is not working but it passes power through USB.
how can I understand if it really doesn't pass HDMI ?

It's possible that you have a faulty adapter. It should just be plug and play, but you have to make sure that the adapter is receiving external USB power in order for it to work.
ok; it works now.
the micro USB connector was not fully connected...
thanks.

and what rom and kernel are you on ?
I'm on stock running ICS and I get funky results, sometimes it works for a minute or two sometimes just a few seconds. The problem seems to be on the TV, a Sony Bravia, the HDMI setting has to be Wide for picture quality (it has zoom, smart zoom, wide, 16:9 and 4:3) but as soon as there is some glitch in receiving data from the phone the TV begins to scroll through those settings to regain a signal and I can't force a setting on wide for the HDMI connector, only for one of the SCART connectors.
The frustrating part is that it works flawlessly when I connect an Asus Transformer. Could it be the MHL's USB connector? If that is the case how can I check it?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
Just in case anyone relooks this up.
Connect everything. Then REBOOT PHONE/NOTE. The TV will then detect it auto.
Hope this helps someone !!
It didnt help me... my sony bravia 32" tv just wont show the gnote's video. the same adapter works fine on my samsung 32" tv but not on the sony. I have even upgarded the sony tv's firmware too. tried changing to "Wide Zoom" settings and other things but still no video showing, although the tv does know there is something plugged in to HDMI port 1.

Phone have usb type c version 2.
My questions:
1. This phone is really support hdmi alt mode? I don't see the image HDMI (or DisplayPort or Thunderbolt) alternat mode on the box.
2. If (1) is true. Any cable good for me? Ex. usb type c multiport adapter from apple store or necessarily with OTG?
3. How big is the latency video of through miracast (ex. ezcast)? If connect mouse and watch on cursor movement.
I tried this yesterday with a USB C to Hdmi adapter I got off Amazon and I had no luck connecting to the monitor.

Phone not supports MHL and other alt. mode
II wonder if a driver could be put into a ROM to support it via USB OTG since it doesn't support MHL?

I think because it is not implemented in hardware in the phone
If I'm correct Display Port alternate output requires USB Type-C 3.1 since the phone supports only 2.0 it shouldn't work. However not many phones utilise this feature even Google Pixel doesn't use this mode
Video out works fine on the 3T but only with Displaylink adapters. (So far anyway)
I have one and can confirm it definitely works either via HDMI or HDMI to DVI (I've tried both)
I used this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N40RQV4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
but any displaylink adapter or dock will work. (Make sure it very specifically says dispaylink, check the displaylink website if you aren't sure)
The only note is that displaylink says the Ethernet ports on the docks do not work with android.
(I suspect they might work on devices that support a regular Ethernet adapter though, I haven't been able to get a normal Ethernet adapter working on my oneplus 3t though for what that's worth.)
you will also need the displaylink app from the playstore though it does not have to be running.
if any of you have experience using an external Audio DAC with USB Audioplayer pro the process is very similar.
Once you plug the monitor in, a pop up will ask if you want to let the displaylink app control the adapter and if you hit "ok" it does the rest automatically.
Does the phone charge while connected to the DisplayLink adapter?
Just try with Chromecast or anything else with Mirascreen option
Does it work with Anker Premium USB-C Mini-Dock

Well, we don't all have Macbook Pro docks so does it work without that?
I bought a USB-C to HDMI cable today but I can't get it to work – are there any settings (or apps?) that I'd need to change/install to get this to work?
I just want to be able to plug my phone into a TV and play videos when I'm in hotels or away from home etc.
I'm new to both Android and the Nokia 8 so maybe I'm just missing something that's obvious?
(The most annoying thing is that it works perfectly on my old Nokia Lumia 950XL Windows Phone.)

From what I know the native support works with USB-C portable adapters with a HDMI port. Don't know about the cable ones.
I have this, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EZTRI42/, and it's working well with the native support of the HTC U11, still don't know about Nokia 8 though
I've contacted Nokia customer care and that's their official answer regarding this matter:
"Thank you for contacting Nokia Mobile Care!
We would like to inform you that the Nokia 8 does not support video out through the USB type C neither the HDMI. If you want to connect the phone to the TV please try to buy the chromecast to cast the device to the TV.
We hope that the above information is useful for you! If not, or if you have another question, please feel free to contact us again.

Well, very odd!
I tried a Displaylink-based hub myself with a Nokia 8 and it didn't work for me just like the regular adapters (which all of them, including the Displaylink one, worked with my HTC U11).
So, please elaborate about what you did. Is it a plug & play process? Did you do anything special to make it work for you?
By the way, I tried it with this Dell hub (which is Displaylink based on http://www.displaylink.com/products/find?vid_hdmi=1):
http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/acce...note_bnrank=0&baynote_irrank=1&~ck=dellSearch
So firstly you need to have the displaylink app installed on your phone, apart from that you should just have to plug it in - the app will then prompt you to start showing your screen which you say OK to and that's it.
However... I found that the vast majority of the time it just simply doesn't work. Every time the device has a notification to say a device it connected and drawing power but very rarely will the displaylink actually work. I literally had to connect and disconnect the device around 100 times on some attempts before it works, sometimes fewer but the weird thing is once its connected and working, I can remove it and plug it back in and it will work straight away.
Its a really strange issue which I don't understand, it cant be the cable as it works consistently but only after getting it to work that first time. I'm thinking there may be a bug with the 8.1 firmware as another forum mentioned the maximum charge amp is reduced in 8.1. Another forum mentioned that on the Xperia XZ Premium display link only works with external power to the displaylink hub so perhaps its drawing to draw too much power and its just a fluke that it occasionally will work. Unfortunately I tried to connect external power to my hub and blew it so I can't test any further
I've tried the same setup on a Galaxy S7 Edge and that worked every time, no issue so it must be something strange with the device OR the adaptor used to convert the displaylink hub from USB to USB C.
LUHCCAS-X10
You fraud. I bought my Nokia 8 on the basis of your post. Because you decided to post this BS, and then made a prompt exit from this thread.
Now I am stuck with it. With this phone and with no ability to hook it up to my projector without unacceptable levels of latency through Chromecast or some such.
I even wasted money on this USB-C to HDMI cable (Thunderbolt 3 compatible), that doesn't work.
My only hope now is this DisplayLink setup. Any more news on it?
I messaged LUHCCAS and they said this is what they used: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/USB...a741666&transAbTest=ae803_4&priceBeautifyAB=0
Although they didn't specify which. None of them say they use displayport but I guess its possible, if so then perhaps they are not a fraud.
I have ordered a new displaylink hub so I will let you know if that works more consistently than the other one I tried.
Sounds good, please update the thread if you get the Hub. I want to use the Nokia with my Car Radio via HDMI (Appradio Unchained)
Displaylink adapter support
I'm happy to confirm that I managed to get the Nokia 8 connected to a TV using a DisplayLink adapter. :victory:
It's working pretty good (both image and sound) as long as the DisplayLink presenter app is installed.
From the first couple of minutes with it I didn't experience any issues that @jamhtcman mentioned and it's working very well at any time that I plug in the adapter to the phone (without an external power source).

Side note: You'll need to buy a separated USB 3.0 to USB-C OTG cable because the adapter in the box is too thick for most of the cases

Awesome news, awesome :good:
BTW does it charge your phone while your phone is plugged in?
Also this is probably a bit of a specific question to pose; but by any chance have you checked whether the phone outputs just 2-channels of sound (stereo) through the displaylink adapter, or does it output however many are in the source material (e.g. 5.1 channels if you play a video file with a 5.1. surround sound audio track).

No option to charge the phone while casting I'm afraid.
Moreover, I can't tell about the sound cause I don't have any TV and AVR that supports 5.1 channels sound though an hdmi port.

Me too, Just the USB-C to HDMI adaptor but I got it for Around $10Aud...
I have the Dex pad and Station too but this is so much more mobile, no additional power needed... Just a Bluetooth Mouse and Keyboard...
Not sure how fast it will eat up the battery though....
So I want to connect my Razer mouse and keyboard currently connected to my main PC and monitor to my Note 9 when Dex'd via cable. I know i'll need a hub of some sort, so wanted some expertise on which hub to get, but also wanting to know the best way to set this up minimally.
Also looking at different Dex options for my note 9. already have a usb-C - HDMI adaptor that aslo has a usb-pass through power - (to charge the phone) - but no keyboard\mouse options as yet.
Without hijacking your thread, For me there are two requirements
1) Portable setup, simple hdmi dongle and small portalbe tablet bluetooth keyboard\mouse~ glide pad in built.
2) Permenant setup - like the new Dex Pad (or 3rd party - as Dex Pad doesnt have USB 3).
Sounds like your chasing more of #2 - but what I am wondering is do you want you razor keyboard and mouse to both permanently and always function connected to your PC - and have some kind of double adaptor\hub setup - that if you "do" plug in your Dex Phone - then without moving\unlplugging you K&B - they still work both on the PC and Dex at the same time? Is that right? Share 1 x K&M across both Dex and PC at the same time?
OR
When you plug in the dex - it "switches" all input fully over to dex [only]? cause I am not sure how if you type on the Keyboard its not going to send to both PC and DEX apps if its just on some kind of shared hub etc.

Thats interesting idea, I think thou you would get input being sent to 'both' devices - so your typing into a spreadsheet on Excel via DEX, and your regular PC is also getting the same character input \ mouse movements sent to it - if it even worked via some kinda hub.

Here's the link if you want to check out the USB-C to HDMI cable - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/USB-C-t...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

Not seeing much difference does not guarantee anything. Buying the Samsung stuff guarantees compatibility. And damn, Samsung's cable is expensive, especially straight from them. I am sure price will come down but that is high. I'm glad I got the DEX pad though. Would've been nice to keep the Ethernet port but that takes up bandwidth.
Dex is good though. Surprisingly good. I tried it yesterday and I think I mentioned this before it is like a mini windows 7 with an android overlay. I thought for sure there would be noticeable latency but NOPE! it's good. I have a really nice laptop. The DEX pad is auxiliary and light weight. I have a Logitech unifying receiver with accompanying keyboard and mouse. Put a thumb drive on the second USB port and get a nice high quality lifestyle looking extension cord and you have a very gratifying portable desktop experience. I for sure will be using Dex to back up my phone to thumb drive and then back up from thumb drive to laptop. I'd rather not hook my phone up to my laptop when I don't have to.
Anybody have one of those Asus monitors that is powered by USB? I think the cheaper one is about $125. I wonder how good it looks and what the minimum power requirement are for the monitor. I doubt 5v at 500ma or 900ma which are USB 2 and 3 specs are applicable to the monitor. Even so I wonder if the Anker battery packs can power it. Asus monitor, 2 or 3 Anker battery packs, DEX pad with thumb drive and keyboard and mouse and you're good to go probably 2-3h 8h workdays without plugging into a socket.
What resolution are able to get via dex? I cant use the 2560x1440 - only 1920 x 1080.
Does the Dex Pad or station get better resolution?
Is it possible to use lets say a Lenovo USB-C docking for the S10?
No it's not
I use the HP G4 dock with my S9. I would assume it would work for the S10. I hope it does, because I will be upgrading this week.

Dident work with the Lenovo docks at work. No signals to displays...
Buuuut...now that I think about it, i dont think it had any monitor on the HDMI output. Only on DP and VGA I think. Might try again tomorrow with something on the HDMI.

BTW. Does it charge with the G4 dock?
Yes it charges, has ethernet, displays, and works with my keyboard and mouse. Sound works from the dock, but not through HDMI.

Everything works as it should with HDMI plugged in. Charging and sound to :good:
Yes, any sort of USB-C dock with HDMI out should work no problem.
i use this one : https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B07919ZNB4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And Its works !
its a Hub too so you can plug a mouse and keyboard but also a RJ45 that as been recognized by my S10+
and as you can see there is a USB-c PD port to charge your phone while you use it as Dex !

Hi guys, I have HP G5 dock and woks fine only with FHD LCD. I use at home ultrawide monitors and both available ultrawide resolutions are in grey in settings. But works great as an USB-C power supply for DEX station
