Display Content Scaling option gone? - T-Mobile Note 7 Questions & Answers

All,
Just received my new T-Mobile Note 7. Spent the past few hours configuring it. Noticed that the display content scaling is gone. I remembered I set it to small during the initial set up. But,now I want to set it to large and see if I noticed any performance difference as I did with the old note 7.
It was in Settings, display, content scaling.
With the new update,I don't see it there anymore. I posted in another forum and saw that some users from another carrier namely at&t still has it, but in T-mobile it has been removed.
Why is that?
Any ideas?

Do you mean screen resolution? That's the only one I've found.

Nope, "Content Scaling".

You can get it back. There's an app in the app store called Display Scaling by Evozi that gives you the NOW hidden menu back (in the app), there's other ways to do it by making a shortcut to the hidden feature.
App is easier than trying to explain using another launcher, finding hidden feature and adding correct item for it.....
They hid this and UNHID the resolution feature since folks would use it more. This was expected to happen if you monitored the non Tmob note 7 forums. International notes got this update before the recall.
Oh, and you should probably reboot after changing it.

Oh wow! Thanks for the detailed info. I actually did this from another forum via Nova Prime via the shortcut you mentioned.

Yeah, here's the instructions for that method.

Another gotcha. If you change the scale size, THEN for some reason change your font larger, it will default back to LARGE content scaling....

I have an AT&T Note 7. I don't see those options. What are you guys setting the scaling to?

Being I can see 50 from where I stand, I'm keeping mine on large so I don't strain as much to see that tiny font.
Others prefer the small, those with younger eyes! lol
Before this update, there was talk that the small was "faster" than the large, but nobody provided proof.
I ran 3 runs of antutu before
and 3 runs after.
Both were exactly the same speed, +/- 1000.
So there's no speed reason to choose one or the other, only what you and your eyes are happy with.

I actually want the new option but need to wait until someone migrates the new ota with root. The new option supposedly gives better battery life when you turn down the resolution.

This was something I noticed was missing right when I setup the replacement. Personally I prefer the small option. Thanks for linking the app to change the screen

I'm interested in this as well. I have TuneIn Radio installed, and always get the option to open that or Clock, but that's it. If nothing else, I'd like to open a slideshow or news reader.

FYI, I did find a thread on another board that suggested Desk Clock Plus... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.DevBob.DeskClockPlus. I can't try it out now, but it's supposed to show up as an option when you start charging on the TS

I've been waiting for an Android app that does the picture slide show like WebOS pretty much since CM9 came out for the Touchpad.
Maybe one day!

check out Desk Clock Plus that i mentioned above. I got to play with it a little last night, and there's an option to do a slideshow. unfortunately, idk how many more goodies we can expect to see for our old beloved touchpads.

Thanks for the suggestion.
Seems to need a load of permissions considering it's application (a clock) - I'm always wary of an app that wants loads of permissions and especially control of things like system settings without proper explanation, etc.

Yeah, I hear ya. It has a ton of different settings, I think including stuff like changing the lock screen and display/screen timeout, which I assume that is for. I wish there were more fine-grained permissions sometimes, or a way to disable certain ones and still have the app work, just not the particular feature that the permission relies on. I believe in CM that's possible at least to some extent.

4.2 known bugs

I thought it would be nice for both users and developers what to expect from next update to fix or be fixed. I'm gonna give a kick start to known bugs, so that we can be aware of the faults of 4.2. Don't shoot the things you didn't like here since it is nothing to do with this "bug" thread. Here I go..
1. I keep telling myself this should not be a bug since it is so obvious but there is no reason for it to be implemented that way. Which is the hour segment of lock screen time being bold and the other half is normal font.. Maybe there is a reason for this hopefully..
2. Pull down the notification bar from top, when it is down, pull down from the top most again. Notification center will continue going down and out of the screen. It applies for both quick settings and notification center.. Major bug! - 1 to googles test engineers.
Now you can add your own test cases and bugs and maybe we have great devs to sort them out and develop great custom roms..
I don't think either is a bug ,more or less design desicions. I actually like both things you mentioned

I can understand the first one but you clearly didn't understand the second. This is a major bug because a layout goes out of screen. They seem to not lock pulling down from the top most of the screen when it is already pulled down.. Result; notification center goes out of the screen..

If you fling it down it stops ,then you can pull it all the way down or just fling it back up.trust me they designed it that way ,it's not a bug.

This is probably a feature Not really a bug..
But on the lock screen .. Long tap the clock quickly.. you will see a big square highlight the unlock button Slide to unlock . This will take you to a STOP WATCH TYPE INTERFACE..
I Was hoping there would be a way in there to change the stupid bold hour number . That is gross to look at ..
Just to try it i Created a 3rd user..From the lock screen then you log into that user account to set it up. When it gets the point it ask for user Name SU Pops up asking to grant permission .. then give a message ..
SuperSU has granted superuser permission :/system/bin/id
tried 3 times .. if you let it set on that screen you will get Supersu isnt responding .. You click ok then it will allow you to continue setting up the account.
The second account set up fine.. Just thought i would try a 3rd and look at directory structure..
Can someone try and see if its just me with the issue. It finally created the account. with a reboot. but its unstable .Thanks Erica
Youtube is borked with stereo (a2dp) bluetooth headsets - sync issues, laggy, scratchy. They have clearly done some changes to bluetooth audio (you can hear the bluetooth headset mute/come alive when there is a moment or two of no sound).
Can't log into gmail with another account in chrome.
I used to log into another account in chrome that I haven't bothered linking. I went to gmail in chrome (not requesting desktop version) and I was already logged into my primary account. It's never done that before. I thought no big deal and signed out. Now gmail continually loops on the address constantly refreshing but the site never actually comes up.
And not a bug, but I'm annoyed Nexus 7 didn't get miracast. Can't imagine the reason for that. And the what's new page isn't clear that it is only nexus 4. http://www.android.com/whatsnew/
Yes it does say "Share what’s on your phone on the big screen." but the rest of the text and the page makes it seem like these are 4.2 features and not exclusive to N4. I'm hoping custom roms will enable miracast.
Also, not a bug but a feature lost, the camera no longer has the funny faces (big nose, small eyes etc). ya I know a dorky feature but I don't see why it was removed. I know the nexus 7 didn't have the camera enabled by default but we have the new camera app so I assume other devices lost those as well.

Navigation never gets past "waiting for location" even though the icon on the status bar indicates a lock in. It works fine in the maps app.

I'm getting an issue when tethering via Bluetooth. This morning it was working fine, the update came down while I was tethered to my phone, after the install I can pair to my phone but it won't connect.
I've tried deleting the pairing on both, re-pairing, rebooting... Anyone else having a problem? Anyone else doing Bluetooth tethering?
edit: never mind, I worked it out, I had to go in and select that I wanted to use the "Internet Access" profile

Always on display

Hi
I recently saw the MWC event for the unpacking of the S7 and G5. These devices comes with a feature call always on display. Samsung said theie not going to release it to other phones so you can buy their latest flashship. I have the note 5 and I like the sound of having the screen always on so I don't turn on my phone. Specially it's a amoled screen meaning if it had the feature it won't use all the pixels. I try to search online and on the play store for a app but there wasn't a app that didn't use all the pixels or was appropriate for amoled screen. So my question is if there is any way to developed this features for the note 5?
Hi yes
Please port from s7 always-on display feature for note 5

Try AC display from the play store. Great app!
I have installed the official Always On Display APK downloaded from APKMirror. The option to enable the feature appears inside Display configurations but it forcecloses when you tap to enter inside it. At least the system is recognizing the feature, will it be implemented as soon as 7.0 arrives? Maybe.

Same here, the AOD framework is missing I believe and/or a non-edge display is detected.
It mentioned something about persmission when I tried to launch. So I set it up as a system app with correct permissions but no luck.
Many Note 7 ports also have issues with the AOD which leads me to think hardware detection is at work.

moderator please feel free to move this to correct section thank you
ok i already know that this is probably in the wrong section but my post count is not high enough to post in other section

well i can i went to the internet and typed in samsung aod apk and downloaded 1.7.3.4 and when in google play and downloaded fx files explorer with the root add on for it then went into sysyem root found priv app the aodservice and deleted everything that was in folder and copied my new aod in then added a second copy of it as well i named one AODService.apk and named the second one AODService.apk.bak and set both security permissions to 644
and taa daa it works you can go to settings turn it on open it up change clocks etc and even see it on the lock screen know but the problem is that its very dim hard to see it

[Q] How to turn off chrome popup about making page mobile ftiendly

I have recently seen this bottom.page pop up asking to make page mobile friendly. I have the desktop site tab on. How can I stop this from happening?
Shut off the desktop site tab.
I was not clear. I do not want the webpages in mobile form, so I want to that pop-up to be disabled.
Oh you were clear. Shutting off the desktop tab is the only way to eliminate that prompt.

Strange as Chrome claimed via Plsy Store to be last updated August 1st. I just flashed a new version of my ROM with an older Chrome, and I do not see the pop-up. Really wish it would be turned off.
Best guess: this is a server-side change on Google's part. This would explain how it could pop up now despite Cbrome not having been updated since August 3rd. It would also explain my receiving the prompt on the astronomy picture of the day site with desktop mode off. APOD doesn't have a mobile version and its pages are dominated by its astronomy photos, so I get prompted.
You can do this to disable it:
- Navigate to chrome://flags
- Search for text "Reader Mode"
- Change the setting of "Reader Mode triggering" to "Never"
Well color me blind. I didn't think Chrome for Android had chrome:// support, which is why I gave the answer I did. I personally got used to that popup, but it's good to know it can be removed, so I did.

STOCK Gallery photo editing

I noticed that when coming from the S8 plus to the Note 8 the stadt gallery no longer allows precise adjustments in the gallery app. For example..
You can no longer finely-tuned a filter like in the gallery app on the S8 Plus. It's pretty much their filter the way they like it. Even in the vignette, you can't adjust it whatsoever.
Anyone notice this?

The phone's not even been officially released yet bro... give them a chance to update the apps :silly:
Not really an excuse when almost the entire world has had it since September 5th
I'm also noticing that the stock gallery no longer has the option for advanced photo editing options. I loved being able to adjust curves, tone, and other precise adjustments right in the stock app. Why would they take this away on the power user device? Anybody know of any impending updates?

Found that the other day, but how do you make that the DEFAULT? This "update" is NOT an improvement. And I think I just confused the heck out of two Samsung agents this morning trying to explain what I wanted to do. If anyone has any good ideas, I'm all ears.
I've also posted in the Samsung Community forum, but you'll have to hunt for it, since I'm new to xdadevelopers and can't share the link here.
