What version is the bootloader in this update?
rooted with eng kernel, right?
Is anyone else having difficulty downloading the modem? The nonhlos downloaded just fine.
Must be an Android file host issue:

You can still root but taking ota won't allow you to downgrade the bootloader, as of now that's not a big thing but that can change... To answer your question though yes you will be able to flash this rom when it's posted..
Just an FYI because I didn't see it mentioned in here, use CP not AP to flash modems.
Also, I had to use Odin 3.09 to flash the two .bin files.
So if 3.12 doesn't work. Try 3.09.

That is a VERY good question. I'll be pulling the OTA zip once it starts pushing. Then I'll see about extracting the partitions and making us an ODIN tar md5 for it. I like being in the game on an open device! In any case, yea, I don't suspect it's a big update...I think it's the same security update everyone else got with no user facing changes.
I've got the update but I can't for the life of me figure out how to flash stock recovery. Can someone point me in the right direction?

You could always just flash my Odin 4.3 firmware package. If you don't wanna go that far I created and posted a stock recovery for you and anyone else here in the development section.

So is this a baseband update? or actual OS update. I ask since I am running a custom rom on the phone anyways. If it is a baseband update then I will go through the hassle of restoring the stock and getting it.

Hey SamuraiHL so we keep everything consolidated post your Odin package in the OP with link and post root instructions. Also change the thread title from incoming to MH5 [ODIN] Security Update or something like that. Thanks again. I created and posted the stock recovery already last night looks like we overlapped.

Yes, this is a full, flashable rom. As for Knox, this does not include the new firmware so there is no Knox to be tripped once you flash this.
Even if you ARE on the new firmware though, you have already tripped your Knox flag to 0x1 just by flashing a custom recovery, so flashing this rom will be an after-the-fact matter anyway.
Omg thank you Cnexus!!

Thank you so much, Once you pull the firmware from an OTA device, would it be a just firmware patch flash, or would it be integrated in the rom and have to reflash the rom? Coming from HTC and we were able to just flash firmware separated from rom. Don't want to assume it's the same for samsung. Thanks again

I'm sure someone will come up with the flashable for that soon. When they do, it will just be the firmware, not an entire rom since they are independent of one another.

We CAN make a firmware flashable, it will just be more tedious than pulling from the OTA.zip like before. The firmware partitions from a 4.3 OTA'ED device will need to be pulled using su and dd like so:
Code:
su
dd if=/dev/block/<firmwarePartition1> of=/sdcard/firmware1.img
dd if=/dev/block/<firmwarePartition2> of=/sdcard/firmware2.img
...
And so on for the rest of the firmware
Because once the OTA'ED device boots up again, it will have the patched firmware, so we can just grab it from there and make a flashable. Just one more step really since they decided to patch instead of updating.
Ok I will get that for you buddy so you can do what you do best

Successfully flashed the rom over CM12. Everything's working including WiFi, Mobile data, etc. I didn't lose any files; all my photos and videos are still there. However, you will lose your app data so better make a backup. If anyone's curious, here are the steps that I followed.
1. Download the firmware from sammobile. (Click)
2. Extract the downloaded file.
3. Run Odin (I used v3.09) as an Administrator.
4. If you're on a custom rom, reboot into recovery. Wipe user data and cache.
5. Reboot into Download mode.
6. Connect your phone via USB. Wait for the necessary drivers to install until Odin detects your phone.
7. Click on AP then browse to the extracted .tar.md5 file. Only Auto-Reboot and F.Reset Time should be checked.
8. Click Start and wait for everything to finish.
9. Once you see a PASS, you can now unplug your phone.

These are already posted. And you should have zipped them up, got the size down. Will you post the recovery image from OF6 please? Recovery only, can't download 3+ GB right now
If you flash this will it essentially wipe your current apps and app data, or does it just update/rewrite the modified parts?
Thank you for this.

This will restore your phone to "like new" factory stock status on either 5.0.2, or 5.1.1

Why not just zip them up though? You'd cut the size in half.
Anyone having issues with the 5.1.1 update file failing the MD5 check on ODIN?

Same here....help anyone?
No offense to the OP but the fact that he basically refused to upload zipped files would make me wary to use these.

Anytime that happened to me it was either the cable, even if it seems to work, I've literally had the S6's included cable work where my other cable (probably from my old S2) not work even though it powered the phone and recognized a connection. Very odd. Also, could be drivers too. One time I tried and it wouldn't write/got stuck, I installed Samsung Kies and then tried it again and it worked. Try those.
Has anyone else received, and installed the new update?
I had it pop up this morning, 20160929, already downloaded (update.zip in /cache partition).
Opened the zip, and I see it has its own build #, the PI2.
This string is from the updater-script file:
Code:
file_getprop("/system/build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint") == "samsung/jfltespr/jfltespr:5.0.1/LRX22C/L720VPUGOK3:user/release-keys" ||
file_getprop("/system/build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint") == "samsung/jfltespr/jfltespr:5.0.1/LRX22C/L720VPUGPI2:user/release-keys" ||
The update prompt message is pretty vague:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
I'm sure it will fail to flash with custom recovery (TWRP) on rooted stock ROM, with quite few system apps removed.
P.S.: If someone desires that update.zip, let me know, and I'll upload it.
Just wanted to share...
Weird, it hasn't been released for the L720T and they've gotten every other update first. I can't find any information about changes or anything, only place that it appears is on Samsung's open source website.
Yeah, I didn't see anything new on Sammobile either.

sammobile has been pretty slow to mention / add new firmwares the last 4-6 months, with exception to brand new flagship updates

At this point there's nothing to separate. It's still only an OTA.

Thank you! With the P in the update, I thought it might be for Marshmallow, but the update is so small that it looks unlikely. Did anyone try installing this yet?

No, I'm kinda picking apart the update zip right now. Android for Work (which only requires 5.0+ so that doesn't tell us anything either) is the biggest change I see. There isn't a build.prop in the update.zip that downloaded to my phone this morning, which is weird... so I can't see what Android version it is yet, I'm hoping for at least 5.1.1 but it's doubtful. There's a lot of security and Knox stuff added which makes me think it's mainly a security update like the last 2 updates.
It's 5.0.1
Has anyone applied this update yet? I never received it on my phone and I'm wondering if i should download it from here and install it. I have the L720T by the way.

Thanks a lot man you are great
sph-l720 (not T) worked fine...
in order shown i:
-installed pi2 through kies3 on win 8.1 after backing up...
-using odin that came with latest cf-autoroot i re-rooted...
-using the same odin re-installed philz touch (older md5 version) and booted into it...
-installed latest (no longer in development) philz touch advanced version from zip file i have on sdcard1...
-rebooted into philz and installed very old emoji font support for samsung from a zip (dangerous) using philz...
-ran triangle away (very dangerous) and rebooted...
note that i had a backup on sdcard1 from philz made prior to any of this. also did one in kies3...
good luck!!!

Im surprised it still even gets updates lol
I was on stock rooted OK3, flashed back to stock, then updated using the update.zip, then ran CF-autoroot. I did hard reset after that because I wanted to start over anyway. Everything working fine.
