So I usually dont use a PIN for security just swipe. I made a PIN and used it for a couple days ans went back to just swipe. But ever since TWRP and booting the phone requires that same PIN. How do I stop this?
When you change the screen lock you are asked if the lock method be applied when the system boots. Maybe apply a PIN and say No, reboot and then change the lock back to swipe.

I tried default_password and my lock screen password but neither works. Anyone know why I'm getting this prompt? Also, sometimes when I restart my phone it goes into a bootloop just showing the Google logo. However, if I turn my phone off and let it sit for several minutes and then turn it back on, it seems to boot up normally. Has anyone seen this before?
When i unlock my phone through fastboot a few days ago, I don't recall if I rebooted or not as required. If I didn't reboot, would that cause these weird kind of issues? I wonder what's causing the boot loop and why turning the phone off and letting it sit fixes the loop. I've used the toolkit now several times to restore and unroot. At this point, I'm thinking of relocking the phone and going through the entire process again except this time ensuring that I reboot after the unlock.
I wish Google had made the encryption optional. It's a real pain.
So, not sure what's causing the boot loops or why turn the phone off seems to work around it. But the reason I get a password prompt in recovery is because of android security setting for pattern (with prompt on boot) is activate. However, it doesn't ask me for a character based password so that when TWRP prompts for a password I don't know what to put because it doesn't accept a pattern obviously.
Should I not use pattern with prompt on boot since twrp won't work? Or am I a big dummy that's just missing something obvious??

Read the twrp OP
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
Ah...read this in the twrp op and makes sense now...
Note: At this time we do not have a GUI representation for pattern unlock. You can still decrypt patterns though by translating the pattern dots to numbers. The pattern dots correspond to numbers in the following pattern:
1 2 3
4 5 6
7 8 9

That explains one issue. Will have to keep my eye on the other issue where sometimes a reboot results in google-logo boot loop...which is resolved by turning the phone off for a few minutes. Lollipop is giving me a tummy ache, but I'm gonna keep lickin!
I had to unecrpyt my phone for it to stop looping even though the password was correct. It would say curvy l correct password but corrupted system. It's an easy fix vv
thanks for the info same happens to me.
I was installing a new Rom and it asked about a pin..
So i set one..
Now twrp is asking for that pin..
And Rom does too.. But I enter the pin and it reboots..

To disable pin at boot, go to the setting (settings > security > screen lock > pin) and set the pin code again. This will bring up a prompt to use the pin at boot, say no.
Deselecting pin at boot defeats the point of encrypting your phone since the files are accessible through TWRP with no added protection.
Sorry if this wasn't clear..
Power on phone, asks for pin..
Enter correct pin, reboots.
Repeat..
Had to backup everything and factory image the device to get a working unit again..

What ROM? Did you post there?
Hello
I followed the instructions on the main Magisk thread to add Magisk via Odin to a stock phone without a custom recovery. All seemed to work as expected. On rebooting the phone after flashing my security pattern isn't recognised and I'm locked out. I extracted the boot.img from the correct firmware at sammobile. I'm guessing the patched boot image may somehow invalidate my pattern. There's no way I'm getting the pattern wrong as I've used it for years.
The phone has been reset to factory setting before I started so there's no data on it I need to save. What's my best option to get back in?
OK. I've worked it out myself. It initially just said restart your phone after a number of incorrect attempts, which it did 3 or 4 times, but in the end gave me a countdown from 10 more attempts to a factory reset. Now reset and all is fine.
Did you have to factory reset after applying boot image to get it to boot? I've tried this a few times without doing but it just boot loops on my S7 Edge.
to reset your lock screen settings back to default swipe only, use TWRP to delete the file
/data/system/lock settings.db

I tried installing a couple of custom ROMs in my Mi Max 2. When setting one of these ROMs, I set PIN lock to its screen.
After that, my TWRP is PIN locked as well. I must enter PIN to unlock my TWRP and to access it.
So the question is: How to unset TWRP lock? Is there in TWRP itself a command/option to unset TWRP lock?
(TWRP is official 3.2.3.0, ROM I using is EU Nougat.)

maybe u can try and flash twrp again, see if it resets and removes that PIN. also try other twrp versions to see if that helps.
you set encryption > then the lock is the pin to encryption and that has nothing to do with twrp .. it just trying to decrypt storage to work on it
try using that pin
if it didn't work you can always factory reset from twrp and it will recognize the storage.. provided that nothing valuable on the storage
also if you can boot to the system i had a pretty bizzare bug the can be useful for you
i installed reachability cursor app on xtended rom and force closing the app makes it lose the accessibility permission
after enabling it for the second time freezes the device and then if you force restart with power long press it stops asking for the code in twrp and while booting..
maybe specific to the rom but worth a shot if that's your case

I tried flashing same TWRP again as well as almost dozen of other TWRP versions for Oxygen. Nothing changed, I still must enter PIN password when entering TWRP and the same password when booting into system (from TWRP or from phone turned off).

I must enter same PIN password when booting into TWRP and when booting into system (from a) TWRP, or b) from phone turned off, or c) after resetting the phone when in system).
It is needless to say that phone screen is not locked in any way - by PIN/phrase password or by fingerprint. That leads me to conclusion that something should be (re)set/changed in TWRP itself.
Factory reset in TWRP didnot help. I will try to repeat the trick with xtended ROM and reachability cursor app.
you need perform format data

i wonder what will happen if you set a new pin in the current rom you running and made it ask for it at boot
then removed it?!
Or you may try this https://forum.xda-developers.com/doogee-mix/how-to/fixed-how-to-remove-data-encryption-twrp-t3757595

"...and made it ask for it at boot" - I already tried that. EU ROM has the option to PIN lock the screen, but it hasnot the option to ask a PIN at boot. So with EU ROM, at boot it will ask for same PIN as for the TWRP an after a boot it will ask for screen PIN as set in EU ROM.

Hi guys,
i am trying to login to my pixel 5 (android 12 beta1), when i set the pin it goes back to the lockscreen.
If I try a wrong pin it says it is wrong.
I did a wipe data but booting the phone is again asking for the PIN. Digiting it it goes back to the previous screen (if I want to move data from preious phones).
I Can't use fastboot for flashing beacuse now i don't have enabled the USB debug.
Any advice?
Thanks
I managed to flash via ADB but i am facing still the same issue.
if i try to bypas the frp with the google account it goes back to the previous screen as weel.
have you tried booting to recovery and selecting factory reset from there?
