Use this if you dont want to download the whole Marshmallow ROM just to upgrade the bootloader and flash a different ROM.
Flash with Odin. To use Heimdall, just extract the package to get an sboot.bin file.

Can I flash it with TWRP ? Now I am still on LL but rooted with TWRP. Don't feel like upgrading to MM then reinstall TWRP and do everything else.

Seems like your only option is to use ODIN. No way to do it in TWRP as far as i know.
The package now flashes with ODIN, so you can just download and flash it.

I have t805 ll rooted knox 0x0
Can i upgrade my bl by flashfire after that flash mm rom by flash fire again without loosing root and trigger knox
Questions guys
my build number is T705XXU1CPI4, marshmallow official stock rom from samsung smart switch (6.0.1) , i can't find a tutorial to root it on google. i can't even check the current bootloader status is locked or not using fastboot. when i typed fastboot devices, no device listed.
anyone can help me with this ? i need to check if my bootloader is locked or not before flashing twrp then try to flash it with supersu beta because CF-auto-root doesn't support that build number right ?
So I flashed the T700 bootloader from this thread on my Canadian T700, then flashed the LineageOS 14.1 ROM. It mostly works, only it can't seem to connect to a 5GHz wireless network. It connects to 2.4GHz wireless fine, though.
If the wifi firmware is in the bootloader, could this be one thing which *is* region specific? (Since there's that thing where different countries allow different wifi channels to be used?) Do I need a US/Canadian bootloader specifically? Anyone know? Thanks!
Slightly more recent bootloader for SM-T800
The Marshmallow bootloader post from the AICP for SM-T800 thread has a slightly later bootloader for the SM-T800, dated December 2016. I don't know what the differences are, but I just thought I'd mention it.
I'm planning to try flashing the bootloader with Heimdall later today. Wish me luck!
EDIT: Well that was easy. I just extracted the sboot.bin file from the TAR file, then I booted my SM-T800 into Download mode, connected it to my Linux box, ran
Code:
heimdall detect
to make sure the device was detected, and ran
Code:
heimdall flash --BOOTLOADER sboot.bin
to flash the bootloader file. I ran the heimdall commands as super-user to be on the safe side (e.g. by using `sudo`).
How to flash this in odin ?

I am looking for MM or Nougat Bootloader and modem for CDN SM-T705W. My tab S info is below:
Build number
LRX22G.T705WVLU2BOH1
Baseband version
T705WVLU2BOH1
Kernel version
3.4.39-4989511
Android version
5.0.2
I have tried to Flash the above for T705 but they always Fail in Odin and then I need to restore stock firmware.
If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it. I am tired of Lollipop on this device and we did not get update to MM in Canada, as far as I can find out anyway.
If its not such a hassle for you, I would like to request for T705ZHU1CQB1 bootloader and T705ZZH1CQB1 modem

It was clear that rooting some Sony devices was not as easy as it should be. This is for unlocked bootloader users, who want to quickly root a stock ROM by flashing a rooted boot.img. It is for the POLLUX_WINDY (ie. the SGP311/312) devices ONLY.
Do not install this on the Pollux (tablet Z with LTE), or it will no longer boot - use flashtool to fix it
There may have been some in the past, but these tend to be full of other "tweaks", like hideous amateur boot logos, and stupid changes like setting ro.secure=0. That's a bad idea, it can break things, and frankly, I know from experience of myself and others that there is a need for a FAST way to root your unlocked device after flashing a new ROM, rather than messing around with downgrading and OTAs.
This will NOT work on locked bootloader, but this is not intended for them. This doesn't include 9001 different recoveries either, like some "kernels" do. This is the stock kernel, with root added, and nothing stupid added.
There is one security improvement made - ro.adb.secure has been set to 1. This is an important security feature, please don't complain about it. If you don't use ADB, you'll never see it, and it won't change anything. If you use adb, it will offer you greater security on 4.2+ stock Sony ROMs, which don't have this feature enabled. You will be prompted to accept the computer connection on the phone, just like in "AOSP" Android 4.2 and above.
The downloads are available above, in the "Downloads" tab. If you have a particular version you wish to request, simply post the kernel.sin. I have made this for only the SGP311/312 (Pollux_Windy) Tablet Z phone images right now, but will consider expanding it for other devices if there is demand and people who can test.
Enjoy simple root, without the nonsense. None of the "don't mirror my files" crap. None of the "please give me donations", none of the "omg credit me as the best person ever". Feel free to share, use, re-use, mirror, enjoy. And I think you'll find that these files are rather helpful for the unlocked bootloader root community I've been thinking about making them for months, but it seems that nobody has ever bothered to.

Correct.
But, since I feel generous, if you upload me the kernel.sin file from your LTE model, I will make a rooted boot.img for it. You can attach them to a post here if you like - just the kernel.sin. Please name them per the stock ROM version, so I can label it correctly.

Nope. Setting ro.secure=0 is NOT the right way to root.
The ramdisk is modified, it will detect if you have root already, and if not, it will install SuperSU and the corresponding su binary on root. I also set ro.adb.secure=1, to add extra security for the device (now you need to approve ADB connections to unrecognised computers).
If you use ro.secure=0, this will break many apps with "root detection", as well as being a horrendously ugly hack, which introduces all sorts of vulnerabilities. ro.secure should always be set to 1
I strongly advise you don't use root methods that set ro.secure=0, as well as any kernels that do it. It's much safer to not have a rooted ADB shell lying available to anything that connects to your device... Including... you know... an app running on your device that initiated an adb connection to 127.0.0.1
So yes, this gives you root without adding stupid extra security holes like many kernels and "root methods" do

Instead of going through all the trouble of unlocking the boot loader and flashing an image, use the Vroot tool instead; it works fast and and does not require unlocking the boot loader. Search this forum for information about the Vroot tool.

UPDATE 12/3/2017 - New version of TWRP has been released v3.1.0-0. See below:
https://twrp.me/site/update/2017/03/10/twrp-3.1.0-0-released.html
I have updated versions T710/715/T810/T815 with new builds. TWRP is now v3.1.0-1
Features:
System image backup/restore
Factory image flashing.
F2FS support.
Supersu root option removed which would cause a bootloop on 5.1.1 and 6.0 devices.
MTP fix - MTP now finally working in recovery.
SEANDROID warning fix
This version also has system image backup and restore included. It is also possible to flash factory firmware images via the Image install button. (see the TWRP changelog above for more info)
I have modified the twrp source code and extended factory image partition flashing to include all images except SBOOT.bin (still working on how to flash the bootloader via recovery)
This means BOOT, SYSTEM, RECOVERY, CACHE, HIDDEN, MODEM(RADIO) can all be flashed from the factory firmware. No need for ODIN anymore.
(Note: to flash the modem it is necessary to rename MODEM.bin to MODEM.bin.img first)

Note: T717T/P, T817T/P users can flash T*10 or T*15 variant respectively.
NOTE: It is important to boot to recovery after flashing with Odin or twrp may not stick and will be replaced with stock recovery.
When flashing uncheck auto reboot in Odin, immediately after flashing manually reboot and boot into twrp.
Manual reboot is POWER + HOME +VOL DOWN then as soon as the screen goes blank immediately change to VOL UP whilst still holding the other buttons.
NOTE: ON SOME ANDROID 5.1.1 and 6.01 DEVICES IT IS NECESSARY TO GO TO:
Settings -> Developer Options -> OEM unlocking
AND ENABLE OEM UNLOCK FIRST OR YOU MAY ENCOUNTER 'BLOCKED BY FRP LOCK' WHEN FLASHING.
TO ROOT:
Flash SuperSU below with TWRP.

Sorry I grabbed a copy of the permissive kernel tar that was broke... once I got the new version all was fine.
Just root my SM-T815 ......great work, thx man.....

It work fine for my T710 with 5.0.2
Just noticed a minor issue with the T710 5.0.2 version. In the Reboot options pressing "Power Off" reboots back into recovery instead of turning off.

Would you mind sharing your device tree?
edit: only reason I ask is it's been a loooong time since I've compiled a recovery for an unsupported device and I'd like to get back in the loop... only my attempts at doing so are failing lol. Thanks.

I don't have a fully working device tree yet.
The device tree I initially created to compile twrp always failed to boot even though the compile process always completed successfully.
I finally managed to build a bootable version by porting some of the binaries and libs from another device and using some of the files from the compile.
It seems when compiling from the latest 5.1 omni sources there is an issue, well for me anyway.
I contacted big biff on IRC about this and he seems to think it should compile OK and doesn't know what the issue is.
However I can't even get a bootable version from existing working trees.
I can't be bothered reverting everything to earlier sources so just used some of the working files from the build I compiled from source and the rest ported over.
I still haven't managed to nail the issue.
If you want I can get something up on github and maybe we can work on it to get it booting?
You will have to bear with me though as I deleted a load of stuff as I needed the space, so it may have gone.
What is the issue you are having?

I'm getting the same issue where it won't boot. Sits at the BL with the Recovery is SE Android warning. Can't get past that dagum screen. Here's my current tree: https://github.com/BigBot96/android_device_samsung_gts2wifi
Compiles without errors but no go. The last recovery I ported was for the Verizon Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 LTE and it was very simple to get up and running. Both CWM and TWRP.
There are zero stock based flashable ROMs for Galaxy A5 so here goes one (or three actually)
Its based on BOL1 for A5FU (2.12.2015) and BOK2 for A5F (19.11.2015) and BOK3 for A5H (19.11.2015), the unbranded versions of Samsung ROM.
NOTE: ONLY /FU VARIANT IS SUPPORTED. (I've only got this device)
PLEASE DON'T REQUEST HELP FROM /F /H VARIANTS. THEY WILL WORK IF YOU ONLY GET THEM PAST INSTALLATION VIA TWRP.
This rom is:
De-odexed
De-bloated
Mostly Google apps
Turn off rest of the apps you see fit
De-Knox'd
Zipaligned
Rooted
Busybox'd
It also features:
Note Edge launcher
Note 5 apps:
Note5 Clock package
Note5 Weather widget
Note5 Wallpaper chooser
Note5 My file
Note5 Calculator
Note5 Gallery
Note5 Voice Recorder
S6 Apps:
S6 Keyboard
S6 Fonts
S6 Memo
S6 Radio
S6 Video
S6 Setup wizard
S6 Galaxy App
S6 Galaxy App Widget
S6 Smart Manager
S6 S Planner
S6 S Music
S6 UI Sounds
I just piled up this ROM from bits. All the credit goes to these guys:
@Chainfire for root
@Allooosh98 for Note5 / S6 apps and icons
@haleem320 for Note Edge launcher
@SuperR. for cooking facilities
@ciak ciak for SPlanner and SMusic
@jimbomodder for mirroring files
Disclaimer:
This works for me, so it should work for your device also. Do not hold me responsible if something goes wrong during flashing process. Do this only with your own consent and bear yourself all the risks.
Installation via TWRP:
Please make a backup with TWRP, its easy and saves lots of time in case things go south.
An update to at latest unbranded firmware (official FW via odin/KIES) is recommened before installing this. There has been reports of small annoyances if coming straight from older 5.0.2 base.
Wipe all the data (except SD-card) and flash this ROM. Let it boot for good 10min and you're done.
(The first boot really takes about 10min!)

Hmm, interesting.

So I flashed original ROM with ODIN again, flash TWRP and now it works. Shat it was probably related to my previous ROM set up (rooted).
Now I flashed directly V2.1 and it seems it works, but I am not able to switch WIFI on.
Any suggestion?

which base ROM is V2.1? if different from the stock you flashed it won't work. stock tw ROMs need to match CSC,BL + modem in order to work. I found this out myself. u need the very latest ROM available if V2.1 is based off that.

Hi everybody,
so I reflash the ROM again, update it to latest state, flash TWRP, make a factory wipe and flash the V2.1, and the result is, it works.
So that, to be able to install this ROM without problems, up to date baseband - BOJ4 - is necessary.
Thanks Julian for your great job, and the others for help.
Keep going

Yeah!
I updated installation instructions so that upgrade to newest official FW prior to flashing is recommened.
PS. just noticed that Samsung has released new base for our devices (BOL1 - 2.12.2016)
I update this ROM when NEE arrives for download.
Also corrected right base code for this ROM. Its BOJ6, not BOJ4
Well I came out of latest czech unbranded version and my base code is BOJ4 and works for now. Maybe both base codes are suitable.
One more think, once you implement S6 Themes, does it mean, that we can use themes made for S6 and other currently supported phones? Is there any chance to open access to Theme Store as well for A5?

No luck... Flashed this KDZ to Korean LGU+ device.
Checked 'Enable OEM unlock' but can't boot to bootloader. (Typed 'fastboot reboot bootloader ' but just passed to normal booting.)
It looks LG permanently disabled to unlock bootloader for other variants.

if you do it via LG Bridge, connect the phone, go to software update tab, and then software update (or correct error). It will then download the kdz and flash it to the non active slot.

The first link is from LG Bridge (you can look at its log, its in there), the second link is made from the first link, but is a more "open" server, which doesnt require the LG Bridge useragent to download.
For the first link you need to change your browsers useragent to the LG Bridge one, otherwise you end up with "not found" error.

Anyone know how to flash it manually on my v40? I am new here in android and never flash and root my phone before. I got HK version with only £360. Really appreciate if someone can teach me step by step how to at least flash the firmware manually and even root the phone to custom the kernel. My HK version somehow still stuck on December 2018 security patches.

Europe pie kdz is now available but there’s no point as we can not flash it..I’m in the UK and my v40 won’t OTA update to pie or get security patches as it’s the Hong Kong version and must be regional locked or something..I purchased mine from amazon uk described as the Germany Europe open but got Hong Kong and only discovered recently it was not proper Europe version device...so I’m stuck.
After looking really hard ahead of launch for the U1 S21 Ultra Firmware using Samfirm and Frija, I couldn't find the US XAA firmware. Well I finally got a hold of it ahead of launch. You can use this firmware to flash any carrier branded S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra to U1 after receiving your device using Odin. Attached are the Google Drive links I've uploaded for your convenience. Links will be updated on a monthly basis for simplicity. Below is a simple guide on to flash this.
Step 1: Download patched Odin and Firmware for the model that corresponds to your device's model number
Patched Odin link:
odin.rar
drive.google.com
Download patched Odin and your phones firmware to an area on your computer that will be easy to access.
If you do not have a program that can open rar files, then Winrar is a great program. Download link here
https://www.win-rar.com/fileadmin/winrar-versions/winrar/winrar-x64-601.exe
Step 2: Download Samsung Smart Switch and make a complete backup of your entire device. Data will be wiped during this process, so make sure you have a complete backup.
If Samsung Smart Switch says your device has an update, DO NOT UPDATE USING SMART SWITCH!
Windows Link here: https://www.samsung.com/global/download/smartswitchwin/
Step 3: Once your device is done backing up, Power off your device and put your device in download mode by pressing the Volume down button and power button at the same time. If you have done it correctly, your device should show this screen.

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}

Step 4: Connect your device to your computer and open up Odin.
Step 5: Once Odin is opened, make sure your device is showing as connected, then select AP, and find your firmware file that you had extracted earlier, and select the one that says AP_(Your phones model), and do the same for every other one. So BL for BL, CP for CP, CSC for CSC, and USERDATA for USERDATA. Make sure you select the HOME CSC.
Step 6: Click start. It will start to flash your U1 Firmware. Take a Tea break or something. Once its finished, it will automatically reboot.
Step 7: Once device reboots, sign into your Gmail account you used previously, as well as your Samsung account. Once its at the home screen, restore the backup you made using Smart Switch and then once that completes, sign into all your apps. Your done. All OTA's now ill be XAA Samsung OTA's, not carrier branded ones.
Step 8: Profit>?

Questions and Answers
Will this work for the Exynos version of the S21?
No The provided firmware files are for the Snapdragon version. This might be compatible with the HK Snapdragon version, but I am not sure.
Help, Odin won't flash, gives me an error.
Respond in the comments below, and I'm sure we can get this to work.
Will this unlock my phone from my carrier?
No. If your device is locked before you flash this, it will be locked after you flash it. This is to remove carrier bloat and ensure all further updates will come from Samsung instead of your carrier. If you flash it before you unlock, you can still unlock your device as normal.
I have bootloader unlocked my device, will this relock my bootloader?
Yes. This includes the V2 bootloader for the S21 series, and as a result, if you flash this, you will lose your unlock token.
Updated for July 2022 Security patches.

This will work with any carrier branded version. It will entirely convert it from the carrier bloated version, to the U1 unlocked, Samsung version.
Hi,
I can not change my csc by flashing via odin, I noticed that it was a problem that happened to a lot of people, I tried to flash the XEF version (french unbranded version) but it does not work...
I wanted to know if I could flash this U1 firmware on my galaxy s21 exynos version and then reflash to a XEF version?
My phone is SFR/SFR,SFR/EUX/SFR, by flashing the XEF version it didn't change anything.
Any ideas?
EDIT: I noticed that we could no longer change the factory csc on samsungs, thanks Samsung...
This will not work with the exynos version. It's U1 snapdragon only.

Thanks for your answer.
FYI - I found new firmware that includes February Security Patch for G998U1 - you can download it here: February Firmware for Galaxy S21 Ultra
the firmware is for a region labeled as ACG (not sure who this is - but I do know that the firmware works on my ATT S21 Ultra with no problems)
Hope this is helpful -

What benefit do we get from this version? Wondering whether is would give the ability to use dual SIM on AT&T...

It doesn't allow dual SIM in the US at all. One of the first things I looked for once my AT&T S21 Ultra was unlocked. Even flashing U1 firmware doesn't allow that. However, it does completely convert the phone to the Unlocked version of Samsung's firmware, so your updates won't come with AT&T bloatware, only Samsung apps.
