So i was using my oculus gear vr at work and it was working fine. I tried using it just now and it said it had to update. It doesn't let you do anything till you do so.... So after it does a screen comes on it that basically says "oculus is no longer supporting the Note 7. For further details contact samsung directly" .... dammit! It was working fine. My note is V2 (yeah in aware of the news) but still.
What to do? Any work around? I have several paid games that I can no longer use.
Edit: I guess ill try reinstalling the app and uncheck "auto updates"
and the abandon note 7 ship begins lol
when you reinstall the apk did it work?

nothing, it just reinstalls the latest "updated version 2.15.4." I can't find anywhere to d/l previous versions of the oculus apk. I really don't want a S7 but it's looking that way! Dammit samsung.. . Get your $hyt together
Wonder if theres a way to stop the update. I've backed up all the Oculus apks just in case, but where to go from here.

yep Just read it... I am pissed. If the V20 is Bootloader unlocked that or a Pixel is my next phone. No Expandable storage on the Pixel is the only thing that bothers me.

have to find the right version and I see versions with different numbers. So not sure which one will work and exactly what it is we need. Also I would not post a cracked version here. May I suggest you simply do a search for one yourself

Here's the last version that I had before the update. I have it saved but it has to update before you use it. Maybe hack it to not update. There are 3 apps you need to make it work.

I can understand the Oculus reluctance to support the Note 7. I didn't experience it myself, but phones typically run pretty hot in VR equipment. I'd suppose they don't want any exploders that close to someone's eyes. Lawyers tend to get a bit cranky.
I'm rooted and I've tried restoring various combinations of apks. Nothing works. You can't even play your own movies on your phone. It requires wifi and as soon as wifi is enable, it refuses to go forward without updating. I haven't tried enabling wifi, but blocking the oculus servers, enabling local wifi, but not internet, or any hacking to change the phone id.
From an email I just got:
Customer safety is our top priority. While Samsung investigates multiple reports of issues on the Samsung Galaxy Note7, Oculus is removing support for all Note7 devices on the Oculus platform.
If you have bought content in the Oculus store to use with your Note7 and you’d like to be refunded, Oculus will honor that. More information about the refund process is forthcoming, and if you have any immediate questions, please go here.
For more information regarding the Note7, please visit Samsung’s information page or contact Samsung directly.

So i guess Internet is mandatory to use the oculus software.... I was thinking that maybe installing a previous version apk while having all wifi and data off and then choosing to not let oculus update automatically would allow us to use the software.
Ugh... S7 edge!
If you have root, change the phone model with the buildprop editor. I did this on my note4 to trick oculus into letting me install AltSpaceVR, since it said it requires Note 5. I bet that'll make it work.

I know that could work but I don't want root. There's got to be a way to block the app from checking your phone.

I'd like to try that, but I'd need the build. prop from an S7 edge or equivalent supported by oculus. I don't know the phone model text required, and there's lots of identifying info in build.prop about the Note 7. I'll hunt around for build.prop info on the S7, but if anyone can post it here, I'd appreciate it. (I had an S7 edge until a few days ago as a loaner.)
---------- Post added at 09:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:30 PM ----------
Okay, using root, I changed /system/build.prop and substituted SM-G935T into the ro.product.model. It works! At least mostly...
It knows who I am, but some of my apps aren't there. I also can't play any of my local videos. It can't find them. However, I could play facebook videos and I think it's allowing free games, etc. I've only been testing a few minutes.
I also tried SM-G930T, which also passes into the home area, but you can't merge your eyes. It's not displaying correctly for a Note 7 screen.

ive searched google and only found the option on note 2. i also found where it said to do a self sensor test on the galaxy s5. tried it , to no avail. i was wondering if any one has experience this issue before. stock rooted. havent deleted or messed with any apps or settings other than the blatantly obvious bloat. its a brand new note 4 btw. less than a month, never dropped or wet. kept in an otterbox defender from day 1. could this possibly be some app messing with the settings? ive gone so far as to set a level on it and test to make sure my world isnt tilted lol. but im spot on. any ideas are appreciated.

tried that already.... i went into recovery and wiped the cache first, then i did a master reset. the replacement tmobile sent me is doing the same exact thing. so it has to be some type of hardware problem or its baked into the firmware.

What app are you using to test this
BAD ASS NOTE 4
Hmm, mine seems to be pretty spot on (without having attempted any calibration). The attached screenshot was taken from the Level tool in Smart Tools Pro, after holding my phone in landscape then laying it down on a flat surface. My setup is DynamicKat 4.2 and AEL kernel 7.3. Out of curiosity, if you check in the app Phone INFO Samsung, what hardware revision is your (the people who are having problems) phone? Mine is rev1.1. Just wondering if this might be a problem that affected rev1.0 devices and was possibly fixed in rev1.1?
How do I access that? I've seen the Rev version some where before I can't seem to find it now though.

I had to search a bit for it too with the app's new UI
After launching the app, swipe right (swipe R -> L, that is) through the menus until you get to the Hardware section. Then you'll find the hardware revision near the middle in that section.

Prior to the new Note 7 update (green battery icon) You were able to download a paid theme from theme store trial and keep it applied by Downloading Samsung Package Disabler and disabling both theme programs after applying the trial and then going to applications and clearing the data on themes and cache and it would stick permanently until you disable everything and reverse the process. This no longer works with new update. System only allows you to clear cache and not theme data anymore.........Samsung is cracking the whip, think there is any way around this? I loved changing my theme frequently.
So your mad that Samsung patched how users were getting paid themes for free? I'm sorry but they did what they had to do because those themers worked hard on their themes for the community and because of it i don't see why a little bit of change out of someone's pocket is something a person should be getting mad about. Just pay for the themes instead of trying to find a way around it they don't even cost that much especially when you own almost a $900 phone.
@jovy23...question bro...i got the new note7...didnt update though...does the root method still work if update is taken?

Shanda. I want to be sure I follow you. If I follow your steps I can use Samsung Pay on my Note 7 and connect to my Gear S3 Frontier? I'm wary of updating directly through Samsung Apps.
UPDATE: So, I did this and had an unexpected outcome! I downloaded the .apk with the highest number (2.7.46) and when installed was prompted to install a sim card from Korea!!! That version was uploaded in Dec while 2.6.0 was uploaded just today!!! Anyway, the version with the largest number obviously doesn't belong on this page as you'll be prompted for a Korean sim. Why it's there, I don't know. Other than that, everything went fine! I will try now setting up SP on my Gear S Frontier and let you guys know if that goes alright.
LATER: So this is what happened. I started setting up SP on my Gear S3 and got prompted to update the app on the phone!!! The first time I backed out, but the second time I tried again and was still prompted to update, I went ahead and tapped 'Update'. All that happened was that the SPay app on my phone went to the page showing the update status which was 2.6.0 since I had just side loaded it. It did not try to update again through Samsung's servers, whew!! I had to reenter my card then confirm with my bank to get two tokens activated, one for the phone and one for the watch. I'm now in business!!!
After all that it seems all Samsung does to disable SP on the Note 7 is to not allow it to work if you update directly through their servers. That was the little bit of info I needed clarification on since I've seen some people post that you need a 'compatible version' which really isn't true. You just must side load any future updates for it to work on the Note 7.

Thanks for your reply!!! I'm wondering if it's possible to have SP enabled on both the watch and phone at the same time? I was using it on phone alone before. Now that I set it up on the watch, I see that my card has disappeared from my phone screen!! Thanks for your reply!!! I'm wondering if it's possible to have SP enabled on both the watch and phone at the same time? I was using it on phone alone before. Now that I set it up on the watch, I see that my card has disappeared from my phone screen!! I had my phone out in a line today so just decided to pay from the phone and noticed it was no longer there.

Hi RaymondPJR,
Sorry I didn't see your post until just now. I'm glad you were able to get it working, if you have any other questions or need links to the apks I'm usually on https://note7alliance.com/, I hardly check XDA anymore ?.

Thanks, it's still not there although I have all three boxes enabled. I seem to remember selecting a setting to use the Gear S to keep my phone's screen unlocked. Maybe that setting is what's causing SP to no longer display on my phone. I think SP requires some authentication enabled on the phone to be able to use it.!

New version of Samsung Pay available. I thought I'd skip it, but it refuses to work anymore unless you update it. It's available in the link Shanda gave on the last page.
EDIT: Ignore above advice. I got fooled into loading the latest version, 2.8.30 which is a Korean version. Apkmirror doesn't distinguish between what countries the .apk's are for. However, someone pointed out to me that the SP .apk's for the US would be over 60 mb in size. The correct one is 2.7.03 for the US. They are too large to attach else I would.

And if you are dealing with SP on the Gear S. First update Samsung Pay on your phone. Then open Samsung Pay in Gear Manager app. It will then do it's thing, the two will match up, and you'll be good to go.
Anybody getting this? SP on my watch is working fine. On my phone I get this notification and using fingerprint as security unlock is greyed out.
EDIT: Damn, it's the wrong .apk!!!! Anybody got the one for this country?
EDIT: Ok, I found the right .apk through the app called 'Aptoide'. I have it installed but haven't set up my card yet. However, I don't get the 'use Korean Sim card' error.
EDIT: Giving up for now. Getting that error again, seems nothing works.
EDIT: Giving up must have been what it took. Got it installed finally! Just need to call the bank. My phone now reports that version 2.7.03 is the latest not 2.8.30:laugh: Latest SP framework version is 2.7.51 as I reported above.
You knew it was coming in the USA and it looks like December 19 is the day.

What's to stop people from not accepting this update just like the previous one? Unless it's a forced update it won't really change anything

When you reboot the device it will do the updates on one of the reboots. This is true even if you "delayed" the update.
There is a way to prevent the previous update (you can see on this forum). Unless they found a way around that work around good chances that the same work around would work for this update. I would recommend doing the work around now and before this update.
The work around for previous update. Hope this will work for this update too.

I read someplace today that Samsung made a request to the makers of all package disablers on the Playstore to block the Note 7 from being able to take advantage of this... I'll try and find the article.
The one i found isnt supported by the playstore and still has the update packages. Look at the link JaguarXT posted
I highly doubt all the apps are getting on board. I used titanium to block a lot of samsung crap before this and I never got the last update and I won't get this update either.
According to what I read, T-Mobile will be pushing the update on December 27th, that's what CNET is reporting. It also mentions the dates for AT&T as well as Sprint.
Yep I got text from tmobile says starting 27 phone won't be able to charge so turn it in.
Looking like it's time to find a replacement, sadly nothing seems up to par
It will seem like a bold change from what I know and am used to but I'm considering the Honor 8. The specs don't seem to bad for the price point. But it's definitely not a Note 7. I was thinking about going back to the Note 5 but I don't even see it available on the T-Mobile website anymore.

That's because you had the good foresight to root, unlike some of us (pointing at myself). Samsung strong-armed all the package disabler devs on the Play Store to no longer block System apps! The way around it was then to purchase the new version anyway and obtain a license, uninstall, then side load an older version. But then in another update even that route was blocked by no longer granting licenses or something. Then someone provided another app independent of the Play Store to side load which is what is being referred to above. It's gotten nasty!!!! Our ranks will shrink further as those who are severely technically challenged fail to take measures to block this update. Personally, I can't help but wonder/worry if Sammy has some type of back door, but that's the conspiracy theorist in me, lol!

I agree and I will probably change to the cheapest samsung phone to get my $100 and then switch out and use my One Plus 3 till the S8 comes out.
Gotta use my Samsung Rewards up as well... This really sux
I caved last night, I picked up the s7 edge. I'm still keeping the Note 7 though and I'll use it until I'm no longer able to.

Why? You should have just kept the Note7 until the S8 came out... now you have an obsolete phone in 3 months.
I still have the Note 7, the s7 edge worked out in my favor actually. They gave me a Gear VR and now when the next phone drops I'll give my wife the s7 edge. She still has an S5 so it will be a nice upgrade for her.
I'm lost dude. So I have the second version of the Note 7, you know, the one that was supposed to not malfunction. Model # SM-N930T with T-Mobile. OK, so my phone did receive the forced update that make my battery charge to only 60%, I was able to use ODIN and put back the stock firmware, I installed PACKAGE DISABLER PRO and blocked the necessary items needed so I am now at 100% battery life. How is it that we know that is still not enough to block this new update that is coming to cripple the Note 7??? Maybe we are still safe, or is it FACT that it WILL still be forced even though we have the updates and tmobile and Samsung items blocked? Also, with what I have explained, can my phone still be rooted and install a custom ROM or am I too late or second version of Note 7 it was never possible???? Someone please help, I am not a noob, I have been installing custom ROMs since Galaxy S2, but at the same time I am no PRO. All info will help me and the community clarify this sticky situation. PLEASE HELP. AND THANK YOU ALL!!!!! Nothing compares to the Note 7, what other phone has IRIS EYE SCANNER, a SECURE FOLDER LOCK that you can add a secondary app of one you already have with a completely different account, you can lock your notes in SAMSUNG NOTES, an S PEN, A FREAK'N S-PEN for crying out loud!!!!! No Phone compares to this dude!!!!!! HELP HELP HELP HELP!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not 100% sure but the steps with package disabler that you've done should allow you to not have to worry about the new update coming through, someone correct me if I'm wrong.
As for rooting you're out of luck, only the original firmware that shipped with the phone was rootable. After that, this is as good as it gets for us firmware wise
Thnx

That's cool but not a viable option for me.... I lease.
Great!! As if we needed more distracted a******* driving around! I have friends who were seriously injured riding their motor bike from these damn people!
Any app that shows any type of video content on Android Auto should be treated as virus and blocked by Google. The world doesn't need more accidents caused by mindless people at the wheel!
Did it ever occur to you that some of us want the ability to play videos on our in-dash screens while we sit in the car parked?

I don't recall setting this post up as an opinion poll. Like was previously stated there are situations were its nice to be able to watch videos while you are parked. Your opinion has no merit in this particular thread. Move on bro.
I bookmarked netflix and it works through the phone, but once connected to the the car, I can browse and search and all, but it wont play, anyone else try this? Ford Sync 3 unit.
I had a successful install, but never shows 'send to car'. It's only showing 'about' and a greyed-out version number. Any ideas?

does this work when you put the car on drive, this is not working for me. using oreo on galaxsy s9 and honda accord 2018 sport
I have it installed on my pixel XL on "CR-DROID" 8.1 rom. And im linking to Android auto via USB on a 2016 GMC Sierra with no issues parked or running down the road. Everything plays just fine I had issues at first but I went back and followed the instructions in the video exactly. But I will say that I have never seen the "send to car" icon in disguise app. But once I have everything installed and I have enabled the developer settings in Android auto on my phone and went in and click unknown sources or whatever it's called the bottom option, all I do is plug my phone into the USB when Android auto comes up on my Dash I click the far right-hand icon which normally does not give me any option but the standard option to return to GMC intellilink or whatever it says but now I have a second option which is this guy's app. I click that option and I'm good to go.
But I will say this if you are running the latest version of Android auto on your phone it will not work. I believe Google has patched it in the latest version of Android auto from the Play Store. So what I've done to fix that problem is go to my custom recovery TWRP and restore an old backup of my ROM. So that I have the old Android auto app when I reboot. Then immediately after reboot I go to the Play Store then go to settings and turn off auto update apps. Are them go and update all the apps that need to be updated except for the Android auto app. And that's how I continue to run YouTube through Android auto without Google patching me out of it. It sounds like a lot of BS to have to go through but if you remember to go to the Play Store settings and disable auto update apps then you don't have to deal with this over and over. But then again I am using Android auto on a GMC Sierra and maybe different for you guys with other vehicles. Especially FORDS. Ford's are always messing stuff up. Lmao
Since the author of this app is no longer really working on it anymore there are some that have taken this a step further. You can now mirror anything on your phone screen to Android Auto. Discussion thread is here...
