Hello,
I have a few questions regarding rooting, bootloader unlocking and DRM keys that I've not been able to find an answer for in this subforum.
1) I know that unlocking the bootloader will wipe the DRM keys and everything from my phone. Does rooting the Xperia T using any of the available methods also delete the DRM keys?
2) Is there any way to back up the DRM keys before I unlock the bootloader and restore them afterward?
Thank you in advance for any answers.
Tried searching, but didn't find a clear answer to the disadvantages of unlocking bootloader for Sony Xperia SP.
Am really interested in unlocking bootloader, mainly coz I am a fan of CyanogenMod ROM's.
If an when CM arrives for SP, I will have to unlock bootloader.
If some doubts are cleared, will unlock it right away. May be.
Few questions, simply answered would really be appreciated.
1. We lose DRM is sure, but can we manage to add DRM keys back on unlocked bootloader?
2. Do we lose Bravia Engine 2?
3. Do we lose front camera?
4. Any other disadvantages? Or something I need to know?
Thanks!
1. Yes, backup TA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598
2. Yes (unless you follow step 1). I prefer not having bravia engine because I noticed it made pictures taken by our camera look a million times more noisy
3. Well that's just a weird thing to lose... No we don't
4. Not really... Apart from the warranty void stuff of course
Not sure if you need to unlock bootloader to install CM though. If they made it work with stock kernel then you won't need to unlock the bootloader, if it only works with modified kernels then yeah you have to unlock
Unfortunately I did root my phone and unlocked bootloader without paying much attention to backup TA partition and possibility to lose Bravia engine
I should have done more reading instead of rushing to root my Xperia SP
can I know what is DRM keys that have been lost ?!! and if i relock bootloader will I restore Bravia engine.
also if Bravia engine is lost, how come i still can select it in Settings --> Display
is there anyway to test if it is there or not?
Thanks.

Yes bravia engine is lost
It still appears in settings but u will find the difrence in pictures that the bravia engine doesnt work after unlocking bl
Heres the thing guys, I unlocked bootloader on My V and J and still found Bravia working on the albums, I did not backup TA or whatsoever.
Its just placebo that it will be gone. I unlocked bL on both V and J because warranty is gone after a year.
The bravia engine only makes photographs look better on the phone. Sometimes think Sony chose less bright screen hardware just to make BE look good.

Hi!
I think you will find an answer of these question in this thread: link
1.Yes, you can restore the DRM keys if you made a BACKUP! Just flash stock firmware before you do that.
2.Yes, but thats only counts for stock rom.It works fine on custom roms.
3.No.
4.I dont know. My bootloader is unlocked and I have no issues so far.
I hope that helped!Press thanks if it did!

Yes
Dear all professional bro and sister. I have a noob question to ask you all.
When we unlock the booloader of SONY Xperia Z1 the camera will not work right? And if I flash the *.ftf via flashtool does the camera work normally back?
If you unlock your bootloader your DRM keys are lost forever unless you back them up (not that hard, thread somewhere on XDA) - for as long as the bootloader is unlocked the camera will not work properly, once you restore DRM backup the keys are back but the bootloader is relocked.
Flashing a FTF won't fix lost drm keys, once there lost there lost forever.

I had already rooted my z1 when on 4.2.2... But now the 4.3 updates removed the root... Unlocking bootloader ia only option as far as I know.. So I want to ask is..
A) if I unlock bootloader will I loose xreality engine? If yes how do I save that from not happening..
B) is there a "stable" way to install CWM recovery amd not unlock bootloader..? Is there is.. Will mybstock features be affected such as loss of xreality n DRM keys?
C) is there a way to unlock bootloader without looaing DRM keys? If so again will I loose the z1 features?
Please help..

A) if you unlock bootloader you WILL loose xreality. To get it back restore backed up TA partition. You can't have unlocked bootloader and xreality at the same time. Here is a video on how to get full root on 4.3: http://youtu.be/1aq9YTlfCgc
B) Yes you can install the recovery on any rooted Xperia Z1. You don't need an unlocked bootloader to be rooted.
Here are some more explanations if you are confused http://youtu.be/l78p_2ShPS0
C) You will always loose DRM keys when unlocking but you can back them up before unlocking to restore them later
Out there are 2 ways only how to root your Z1, both are for Locked Bootlader. 1 best way is here step by step, page 2, Post #16 http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...2588331&page=2 or NUT method here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2572988
..and what @shem2409 said it's all right.
Hi,
Guys I need your help to understand this whole root thing and etc.
I do have Xperia SP software version 12.1.A.1.201.
I would like to root it. But to do it I need to unlock bootloader. - Fine, can do it as my status is YES.
but I don not want to loose DRM keys.
If i understand correctly first i have to unlock bootloader and then lock it again (to keep warranty) but first I need to root my phone to keep DRM keys.
But on my software i can't first root it and then proceed with bootloader.
Is there any method to first root the device, then unlock bootloader and keep DRM keys?
Sorry if this sounds stupid but I don't know where to start with it.
Thanks

Downgrade to 4.1.2, root that FW with doomlord's method, install recovery and flash a prerooted rom. You don't need unlocked bootloader for this
