your though on upgrading and dev support - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

although my nexus 6 is really good to me
the idea of upgrading to newer device hunt me
and as nexus user I am used to the support from xda community
so here is the question and I want to hear your opinion
what is the best device outside (nexus - pixel) that got support at xda in form of roms - kernel - root - etc or nexus / pixel is our only hope
what will you upgrade to and when
is dev support is a factor to you or not in choosing device

If in the USA looks like 6p & 6 are the best you can get. Hoping the pixel phones are like our beloved nexus devices.

N73G development links thread

Since we don't have an N73G dev forum yet, I suggest that in this thread we post links to useful threads in the dev forum dealing with the 3G model.
no one, has one yet and for us to release a rom for it we need the gsm binary pulled from a device
A few of us have Nexus 3G's as of today.
That said, I've about as much clue how to pull a GSM binary off the thing as I have reading ancient mandarin.
Nonetheless there will be 3G specific dev threads. Even if it's only tweaks, guides etc. Some folks have their N73Gs in hand already.
There are plenty of devices out there that have plenty of dev threads even under incomplete circumstances.
Regarding the binaries to pull - would they be present in the stock N73G image Google posted?

Not for now.
However at some point in the future it may be possible to release universal ROMs that work on both. Just as there are universal GSM/CDMA ROMs available for Galaxy Nexus.
Some of the mods may work on both equally, but only if they do not touch any of the radio related files (and I'm sure a lot of files have radio info).

All that's needed is to build the ROM with the ril packages Google will provide once the 3g source files are posted if they haven't already,

Google has already stated that the cellular radio components are NOT going to be released to AOSP as long as licensing issues remain. Without source for the cellular stack, it's a lot more challenging.

Moto Nexus might be sooner than later

I didn't get the feeling that would be a true Nexus. You know how Motorola is with their bootloaders.

Only an idiot would doubt that google will make their own phones through Motorola. Its more a matter of when then if.
Its not going to be a nexus I believe it will be branded as the droid RAZR X and will be realesed with 4.2.2 in q1.Google should have 4.2.2 by then.
I'm just skeptical about it being a real 'nexus' device because hasn't every Motorola phone been only sold by Verizon? Idk if moto and Verizon have a contract but since Google owns Motorola anyone would assume they would make their devices but idk

No, Motorola has sold phones on other carriers. For example, I owned a Motorola Photon on Sprint myself.
However, I think this whole rumor is around some "X" phone by Google and Motorola that _won't_ be a Nexus and _will_ be carried exclusively by Verizon. I'll see if I can find a link...
This has nothing to do with the Nexus 4 and since a lot of users still haven't even received theirs yet, we are long way from discussing this phone's successor in here.
I've already moved one of these to Android General if you would like to continue the discussion there.

[Q] Why is there no actual MIUI Rom?

Question in the heading
No developer support.
Officially they don't support the HTC one. Last time I checked they were voting between it and the GS4, THE S4 was winning.
As for unofficial builds there were two developers working on it individually and development stopped due to personal choice, life etc.

The usual issue - needs a maintainer. Even within CM it does not appear to have an active maintainer at the moment.
Most of the core Omni team have worked with Samsungs in the past but have no intention of purchasing new Samsungs given how Samsung has treated us. Obviously, if someone else decides they want to work on it we'll have no problem with allowing them to maintain the device within Omni - but many of us wouldn't even touch the device if you gave us a free one and offered $10000.
