after downgrade you can also use CWM to flashing anything you like. Flashing XperimenT 1.7.1 is the best way after you root your device.

Follow the topic, you can update first without root if you like, but you still need to get back on 257 to root anyway.

First revert back to .534 (Hope you know how to downgrade and flash ftf's using flashtool, if you don't please let me know),
Then root it using Kingo,
Install XZDual Recovery,
Then proceed with the link mentioned above.
So much wing with this thread, it's in the wrong section and wrong advice.
Flash 534 ftf
Install dual recovery (no need to root)
Flash a pre rooted 4.4 rom

Don't worry and welcome to Xperia
You'd have to flash the FTF first. So flash .534 FTF and install XZDualRecovery before proceeding with the thread you've mentioned and do the steps provided there

That link aint working not sure if I can extract the ftf from my phone which is unlocked. Talked to doomlord and it seems rooting doesnt make you lose your drm keys but unlocking the bootloader does, you need root to get the TA backup

No you can not, but there are literally hundreds of FTF files in the mega collection thread that are not torrents for this user to use

There are many guides here how to root it - use the search function!
There are multiple ways to root, here are some:
1: unlock your bootloader, install a stock kernel with recovery and flash the latest super su
2: downgrade to 4.2.2, use easy rooting method and upgrade ota
thanks, where can I find stock kernel with recovery and flash the latest super su,
cheers

I am as clueless as you! Although I have spent a long time browsing the large amount of information here (and thanks to all who have supplied it), it seems more complicated to root my Xperia Z 4.4.2 than it was to root my old Xperia Ray and my new Samsung Tab 8.4 LTE. I am getting too old for this lark! I only want unrestricted write access to the sdcard following the Jellybean to KitKat 'up'grade.

Hmm. And yet another thread here seems to offer a rooted 4.4.2 without unlocked bootloader. Unfortunately, I need to read a lot more before I can understand what the instructions mean! In the meantime, I have found out about DRM and the TA partition and I am wary of unlocking the BL.
Thanks you so much, my phone is rooted now, greatly appreciated,

Hey guys,
I have an xperia Z
Model number: c6603
Android version: 4.3
Build number:10.4.1.B.0.109
I let my friend install a custom rom on phone and I do not want it anymore and want my stock firmware back so i can install official updates. I have little to no knowledge on android rooting and flashing roms, i tried searching on the forums but i just couldn't find the answer so i had to make this thread.
I do not have much idea about the rom installed too apart from that its called eXistenZ rom and the OTA updater app says
ROM version 7.0.0
OTA Updater ID: xzexistenzultra
that's pretty much all the info i can think of that i can tell you. If anything else is required let me know, i'll find it and let you know. Please guys, any help will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Also existenz roms do a lot of stuff while maintaining the Sony aspect. Yet it can be quite unstable. I had my fair share of issues.
So restore your phone, Root it, DO NOT UNLOCK BOOTLOADER (unless you make a backup first), install Xposed framework + desired modules and you'll have most of the tweaks found in curent flagships .
