Llama cell tower location based profiles and Marshmallow - Tasker Tips & Tricks

Hello,
As you already know, Llama cell tower based profiles don't work with Marshmallow. I am on Samsung Galaxy J7 MM and I have tried various options. Llama has been abandonware for a while now and hence I guess it is time to move to a new app that does this (I will miss Llama).
I guess this has got to do with new cell API by Google. I am trying to use Tasker for this but it is not working consistently.
Any pointers on right settings to be used for Tasker or any alternative app to be used would be greatly helpful.
Thanks,
Rahul

If it's sometimes working then it's probably due to your connection switching to another tower. You can fix this by leaving your phone scanning as you walk around the area and after let it continue for at least ten min
The pro way fix would be to setup a temp profile that activates only when you are not connected to your home cell towers but are connected to your home WiFi. Then the entry task would be to append the current cellid to a variable.

BT Tether WiFi-based Location (no GPS) to save battery?

Hi,
I was wondering if it was possible to tether the wifi based location data to the gear (running null) from a phone. I know it is possible to tether the GPS data (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47857358#post47857358), but this will require a lot of power on the phone. Wifi needs a lot less power and works for most purposes good enough in big city with a lot of wifi access points.

I am also interested with this,

Hi,
I am also interrested in having my location available on the gear without having to drain the battery using gps or have to start/stop the gps tether on both phone and gear when I need it. So having done some android development I tried to put together a small app that enables you to use three modes for location tethering, off, wifi/cell or gps. The wifi/cell updates every 5 minutes if the location has moved 100 meters or more. The setting can be changed on the phone or on the gear. I have tested it on my stock S4 and gear with null_13 so it may not work in other situations and as it is my first test I do not guarantee it will work in all situations or that it will not crash your devices.
The app must be installed on both phone and gear, it is signed with my debug certificate so you must enable app install from untrusted sources.
This is my first contribution to the community so I hope I have done it in the right way.

Martin
Get the app from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48333080&postcount=5

well done
works for me, get location now on Gear without GPS.... great for Google Now / Search / Weather etc
Thanks
I must have something else going on. I can't get the "old" manual way of Share GPS to work either. It used to work but now it doesn't. I know this is off topic but I'm having trouble with Autoremote BT as well. I'm working in another thread to get it working but since both don't seem to be working, they must be related to my BT connection but for the life of me I can't figure out what. Everything else seems to work great, I get notifications, the stock weather app updates correctly, and other items like mini gallery and pedometer work.
Feeling lost and confused.

Let see if we can help you getting my app to work by first looking at the app status. What does the title in my app say on the phone and on the gear (sorry to ask, you did install it on both right?) when you run it? If it says "Gear connected" and "Phone connected" BT communications work. If it says "Waiting for connection" there are problems opening the BT connection. If it says "Restarting" the connection has been made and then lost.

They both said connected and as I would make different selections it would change on the other device. But no actual location service on the gear (as mentioned, the previously working Sharegps app also isn't working but also shows connected).

Ok, good! Next check that I can think of is that mock locations is allowed in developer settings on the gear and Use GPS is checked i the phone settings.

Very Interesting. Installed and working!
Edit: NOT Working, Still has ShareGPS running. Once that was turned off Gear no longer gets location, Withing Maps it says "Waiting for location" when I try and get it. All other settings are correct.
Edit: A restart of both devices has fixed the issue. (But needed to wait for the app to update)
Would be nice if we could have it update our location at specific intervals.
New version of GearLocationBridge
Hi all!
I have been using my app for a week now and found some bugs that i fixed. I also added settings for network location update frequency. You can now set the intervall for updates from one second to one hour and the minimum distance moved for updates to occur from none to 1000 meters. Updates are sent to the gear if both criteria are fulfilled. Be aware that network location might not be available everywhere, so if you don't get a location on the gear when using network location that is the most probable reason.
Donwload from
github.com/Mohlsson/GearLocationBridge/blob/master/bin/GearLocationBridge.apk?raw=true
Instructions, thanks to almulder1092, can be found at

Note that you must allow mock locations on the gear as described in the turtorial for option one in the first steps of setup. Also, this is beta software and I take no responsibility if it messes up your device. All source code is on Github if you are interrested in how it works.

Great job bud, you should get your hands stuck into a tasker plugin !
Thank you fOmey, good idea to make it a Tasker plugin. I took a google crash course on how to make a plugin so there is a new version on github that should work with Tasker. I haven't used Tasker myself so I have only done some simple testing creating a task and triggering it.

Galaxy Gear (null ROM) & iPhone

Hi all,
I am creating this thread so that we can investigate what can and what cannot be done with the iPhone & Gear combination.
Let me first describe my experience so far, for anyone who may be interested. So let's say you want to use the Gear with your iPhone:
First of all you need to have null ROM on the Gear (see respective thread). I have null 15.
You go to full settings and then bluetooth and make the watch discoverable.
Then you go to the iPhone and search for devices (not the other way around).
What works:
1) Basic BT handsfree functionality.
They couple OK and this is it. You have a glorified 300 euro BT handsfree in the shape of a wristwatch!
2) Internet tethering via BT.
If your iPhone carrier settings do support tethering you can also tether the Gear via BT to the iPhone. I have seen that the tethering process works but unfortunately i was in an area of no signal when i did the test (don't have an iPhone right now) so there is no hard evidence. I mean i did not see a webpage loading but i think that tethering is actually device independent. Someone please confirm.
What doesn't work:
1) Notifications (which renders the added value of the whole smartwatch concept kind of questionable)
2) An automated or even manual (but no PC/cloud involved) way to transfer photos/vids taken with the Gear camera to the iPhone.
3) Caller ID with name. I have extensively tried this with both an iPhone 4 and a 5S both on iOS7 and both not jailbroken and when a call is received i only saw the number even if the caller was in the contact list of the iPhone and the native contact list on the Gear itself.
I am searching for a solution for bullets 2 and 3, since i will swap my S4 for a 5S very soon but i do intend to keep the Gear for the time being.
Any comment/personal experience/help will be greatly appreciated.
IMPORTANT UPDATE:
As of June 11, 2014 XDA member @Accounti provided the first (and only so far) solution, regarding iPhone & Gear cooperation.
Ladied and Gents, please welcome CloudNotifier Cydia tweak.
All notifications from jailbroken iPhone can be sent via Web to the Gear (and many other devices, as it is web based). It is not a direct BT connection, therefore NULL ROM is required so that BT tethering is enabled.
I would like to personally congratulate @Accounti for his work and kindly ask that relative posts are done in the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784802
Please let us continue in this thread regarding the iPhone & Gear connection methods.
i tested everything all the day. I can confirm, it works, tethering it's fine, browsing, play store access, email, also I installed Whatsapp and using it.
A problem with this, after some minuts the internet connection become "on demand" so if you receive for example a whatsapp message you don't receive immediately the notification but you will receive the first time you connect to something (for example browsing a page or sending an email).
I'm searching a way to keep internet connection alive or to wake it every 15 minutes just to have live messaging with whatsapp.
I can confirm the problem with the caller Id, i think the problem it's that the iPhone does not push contacts to gear when you pair, and when a call comes the gear look not in the contacts list but in the pairing contacts, that is empty...
---------- Post added at 01:39 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:13 AM ----------
Another problem, set every volume in gear to zero, only vibrating, iPhone is in silent mode to, when a call comes the Gear makes the ringtone anyway. It's a bad problem for me cause i can't use ringtone at work...
NZ, you do realize all this device needs is an app to communicate with. It is completely possible to make the Gear work with an iPhone.
Someone with some decent IOS App writing skills could make this work.
Stop filling this thread with your nonsense.

@gidi, did you try bluetooth transfering your files to your iPhone from the Gear ?
Not sure iOS supports bluetooth file transfers, but it should work.. along with bluetooth sharing contacts I believe, I activated that service too

@fOmey unfortunately i do not have an iPhone right now. Maybe will have the 5S within the day and then i will test and get back to the thread.
However, BT file transfer is a no go on an iPhone that is not jailbroken. Truth is that iOS 7 is a little more relaxed compared to older iOSs but i cannot confirm anything.
With a JB iPhone it may be a totally different story, however. There is tweak called BTnotificationenabler that transfers ALL push notifications through BT.
Could you please check what the profiles that the Gear supports are? Also, could you add more profiles, just in case?
Thank you dude!

That's a shame about the bluetooth transfer, although ! The bluetooth notifications is quite interesting.
What profile do you require for the bluetooth notifications ? As for adding new profiles.. I can activate additional services which have been included already, although it's kind of hit and miss if they will work ! .. If it's some weird proprietary services sadly no.
I have included majority of the useful ones already..
Hi Everyone,
I did a little thread cleaning. I think that this thread is perfect for xda. Although xda usually doesn't support iPhone development, I think most of the development here will need to be done on the Galaxy Gear side. As long as people are willing to help and test ideas, I say go for it!
Thanks!

fOmey i will search a little and get back to you.
I will alsotry to get in touch with a dev who has managed to make wonders with iPhone and Pebble.
Thing is, if some basic functionality can be achieved, then the Gear market will truly expand. There are many iPhone users who would love to use the Gear.
UPDATE: It might also be worth it if you could take a look at this: http://support.imwatch.it/downloads/
I have used the imwatch in the past and it can work both with iOS and Android.
Appart from the tethering function, i remember that when pairing with iPhone a special BT profile (do not remember it's name) was utilised that allowed the imwatch to download the whole iPhone contact list over BT.
Actually the Gear is all the imwatch was ever hoping to be and maybe some more!

Good idea Man! Look into the I'm Watch firmware is good, the profile used for sms is the Message Access Profile (MAP).
No way to save contacts manually, the Gear see it as empty. Is there a possibility to modify directly the contact file?
fOmey maybe you know witch is the right file
Just talked to fOmey in the chatroom of his website.
I informed him that jb for iOS 7 is out.
Now the news: fOmey has an iPhone also and i am trying to convince him to invest/waste some time trying to make the Gear - iPhone combination work.
Told him about the BTNotificationEnabler tweak (https://github.com/conradev/BTNotificationEnabler) and the MAP profile that is being used and he said that his ROM may already be supporting it.
If there is anyone with an iPhone and a Gear who wants to see the combination really work, please post to this thread. It could provide some motivation for fOmey!
I know he can do it if he decides to spend some time working on it.

I have activated profile MCE in the current version of null_ which is a MAP profile, I have just finished activating MSE which also is a MAP profile, this will be available in the next version. So in other words all profiles in reference to MAP will be activated in the next version of null_ (16).
Take a look at this page for a better understanding.

It's auto-enabled when you turn bt on? Because when an sms arrive nothing happens, and from iPhone side it's always turned on.

fOmey my man if i got this correctly then the MSE (server side) profile should be enabled on the iPhone and the MCE (client side) should be enabled on the Gear.
However, "The MCE device shall use the services of the MSE device only after successfully creating a secure connection", which kind of concerns me.
But again, in fOmey we trust for everything Gear related.

Any workaround for the caller id issue?
With calling id names and MAP the Gear could be the perfect device.

Tasker :post your tasker profiles

Hi.
Tasker beta updated recently to 4.8 and support new tile for
CM quick settings
So
i create this thread
to post and explore new profiles
I follow many projects from google and reddit
So i have set profiles for automate gps to high accuracy and back with secure settings
Vpn connect on wifi except secure point
Usb debuging only when i connect to certain pc (and just in case) when shutdown my device beacause i use encryption
Send sms to caller when driving
But most usefulls profiles found how to auto change cm profiles based taskers options cell near or wifi near bt near location etc...
CM detect profiles and CM profiles changer found to reddit are great jobs???
i expand my usage to CM profiles options
Based to these variables tasker upgrade all my device capabilites
Whats yours?
Is there a way for tasker you know if you've unlocked your phone. I want a task that flashes certain information when I unlock my phone

Just the data I have left until the end of the month. I have that side set up but I just need to know where I can find the variable that allows me to tell tasker that the screen has been unlocked and not just that it's on

Tasker
%myDISPLAY is similar to the %SCREEN variable in Tasker, but it adds unlocked as a possible value, allowing us to differentiate between on and unlocked. These values are set based on the corresponding Tasker Events, and can be used as a Context (using Variable Value), or for flow control within Tasks.
Both of these didn't work. Maybe it's because I'm on the lg g4 and not on aosp

Tasker recognize unlock as event so
Add a profile/event/display/unlock
Make a simple task to check if working
If work you can create a flow action
So monitor when device unlock (one profile)
And change variable value
and execute the desire task.(second profile) when new value set

Did you try secure settings?
On Lolipop I have problem with mobile data dont automatic connect when I am out of wifi area.
Is there any way for tasker to solve this problem, I buy it last night, but its littly too complicated for me.
So something like this, when out of wifi area, connect to 3g, when in wifi area disconnect 3g.
What phone and what rom do you use?

Download secure settings
Add profile/state/net/ wifi conect
New task /plugin secure settings /mobile data off
From main menu if expand profile you see the task you create
Tap to task and create exit task the opposite
But is known bug?
to @Sultanxda because automate data/wifi is main function of device
Did you post? Have you done clean installation?
I known its the main funcion od device, but I have trouble with every ROM on lolipop with this. Clean install, delete all apn create new, works one day ok, then same problem.
Thank you, will try to do this.

[TASKER] Looking for some tasker profile ideas. Post your tasker profiles here!

So I just discovered the magical world of tasker, and am loving it! Totally worth the money, and one of the best apps to have (the best if you know how to maximise its use)! I have been experimenting a bit with it, so I don't have many profiles. I'm sure many folks here will be using tasker and would be having some great profiles, so I'm looking forward to hearing some suggestions! The profiles I use are:
1. WiFi off at night, from 00:45 to 08:00, except WhatsApp, Play Store, Quora
2. Airplane mode at night, from 00:30 to 07:00
3. Use of interactive CPU governor when using Real Racing 3, and revert to lionfish governor after exiting app(Kernel adiutor profiles do this for me). I also added a condition to use auto-rotate when playing the game, and revert to portrait orientation after closing the app.
4. Auto-sync every two hours, from 08:00 to 20:00 (I would like to improve this to auto-sync only Gmail, would welcome suggestions on how to do this from any tasker experts out here )
I would love to implement more profiles and automate my phone, so looking for ideas.
Need a tasker profile which can disable my mobile data only for some specific apps.it means If I start those apps then my mobile data would automatically disabled and when I close them Data service should be enbled. If u can help on this then That wud be very helpfull
Nothing very fancy for me - right now just have it turning on my wifi hotspot when it detects my car's bluetooth connection so my stereo can use the internet.
It sounds like you are taking it pretty far, @varunadi. You should check out https://www.reddit.com/r/tasker for more cool ideas.

I'm still finding my way around tasker, reading a lot of tutorials so once I figure it out I'll let you know.

I don't know if you can disable mobile data entirely (not just background which Android can do already) for just certain apps.
Perhaps it would be easier to use something like Netguard.
I've never used it but the description says "Applications can individually be allowed or denied access to your Wi-Fi and/or mobile connection."

Can't the secure settings plugin be used for that purpose? Toggle data on/off I mean.

I was actually going to suggest that as I have it installed already but when I tried it didn't work.
The "Mobile data" toggle was unavailable because it claims I don't have root. However, I'm definitely rooted and there's no listing (saying denied or otherwise) in SuperSU for Secure Settings so it didn't even ask for root. I'm not too surprised as SS hasn't been updated in over a year and a lot of the Play Store comments mention mobile data toggle specifically not working either (among other things). Too bad as it was pretty powerful and of course I think I paid for it right after its last update.
Not getting SS working for me might just be my problem and perhaps someone else can get it going.
I was also going to suggest [APP][2.2+][ROOT] Toggle Data 5.0 (xda-exclusive free version) but then I read more about what @anks095 said which was "can disable my mobile data only for some specific apps" so I'm guessing he just wants certain apps restricted and not all (although the next sentence seems to say otherwise but I might be reading it incorrectly). I'm not too sure that can be done via Tasker/SS - my guess is that it's an "all-or-nothing" kinda thing for mobile data so the VPN thing might be the only way.
I use a similiar app called automagic but some of the things that I got my tasker like program to do are: lockscreen enable/disable through wi-fi at trusted places (don't like geofencing due to battery), when connected to the bluetooth of my car. Auto silent 5 min before a meeting, but if not connected to my smartwatch then vibrate. And lastly sms emergency location request where my family can send a keyword and my phone will automatically send location.

How is the lockscreen one working for you? I find the built-in SmartLock to be really unreliable but when I tried to do lockscreen stuff before (last year) there was some bug in either Tasker or Secure Settings that would sometimes keep your screen black with just the nav buttons visible present. I'll have to re-try now.
That sms emergency request thing sounds cool! Can the recipient open the location in Maps to see exactly where you are?
Without issues I set it so that it clears the password. Makes it so that I have to swipe to unlock. As for the location, yes it sends coordinates and the user in the other end taps it to bring up Google maps.

Thank you very much - clearing the password was the key! I had been trying before to disable the keyguard entirely so I wouldn't even have to swipe but that's where the problem/bug came in. Thinking about it that makes more sense to have at least a swipe because I'd end up calling people from my pocket by mistake. So thanks again!
Tasker...hmmm. Bought it, but much to complicated for me. Macrodroid is much easier to understand and can also do complicated automation with a normal user friendly interface. I tried to like Tasker, but the more and more I tried the more stupid I felt.

Tasker - SecureTask is not starting

Hello,
I'm going crazy here.... I've installed Tasker on my new Lenovo Tab M7 TB-7305F (7 Inch with Android 9.0 GO - NOT rooted). Tasker works fine. Since I want to kill apps I installed the plugin "SecureTask". And: I succeeded to get it working. Everyting is working fine. Until I reboot. After a reboot: When I try Tasker to execute the plugin-command SecureTask - Tasker waits long and can't execute the plugin. It seems Tasker can't call the plugin SecureTask / can't connect to it. When I manually load SecureTask (Icon on the desktop - only a config-screen comes up - I leave the config-screen with the back-button): After that everything works again. It seems: After SecureTask was loaded once everything is OK. But Tasker can't start the plugin.
Humpf? After a lot of hours of investigating..... I'm out of ideas. Any help?
That sounds like there's a problem getting a background process running after boot for SecureTask. Assuming that all of the permissions for SecureTask have been granted through ADB, I would contact the developer and see what he says.
A work around might be to use Tasker to launch SecureTask after boot. You could then use it to close itself
Thanks... exactly the opinion I have at the moment. In the meantime I found a contact address in SecureTask itself - so I will contact the developer.
Enabling SecureTask after boot by Tasker.... good idea That will be a screen-flickering... but that's at 5 am - so nobody will care about that. I will test this... :good:
Just to report my efforts.... I contacted the support of SecureTask - and got an email-chat within minutes. Incredible support - thank's a lot, John Doe (support of SecureTask)!!!
He told me how to get a logcat. Reason, why it's not working:
BroadcastQueue: TabletMaster Service: not allowed to launch app com.balda.securetask/10110 for broadcast Intent { act=com.twofortyfouram.locale.intent.action.FIRE_SETTING flg=0x14 cmp=com.balda.securetask/.receivers.FireReceiver (has extras) }
=> The OS is blocking the broadcast. No clue why. So it seems my Lenovo Tab M7 TB-7305F has a strange behaviour... no chance to get it working.
Btw: Killing SecureTask with it's own didn't work. So I had to choose now a complete different approach without SecureTask.
airplane mode
Hi, bit off topic maybe, but I saw that this is a quite recent threat and it is involved with SecureTask plugin, so I decided to hook up instead of creating new one
This week I bought Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e. It's operating on Android Pie and UI One interface. I'm reluctant to root it yet (all the more the procedure is not obvious), but I want to recreate as much functionality as possible from my old rooted Samsung tablet So SecureTask plugin is the obvious choice.
I'm trying to find a way to automate turning the airplane mode on/off. On my old tablet I created a profile that triggered airplane mode according the time schedule as soon as Tasker detects that the device is plugged in to a power source. I've tried to recreate this profile with the help of SecureTask. Of course in advance I granted to the plugin all possible permissions using adb and even successfully set it as the device owner. Then I found a secure setting responsible for turning the airplane mode on/off and set appropriate values. And when I test the created tasks, the green circle appears and the quick toggle in the notification drawer turns on, but it seems that the system doesn't listen to the call - the airplane mode actually doesn't turn on. The system seems to listen only when I turn the quick toggle on manually. So I wonder if there is something I'm missing or maybe it is not achievable at all without root on this firmware?
Would be grateful for any insight, maybe from you @ktmom, boss Thanks in advance.
@Lord Sithek, AFAIK, the only way you can toggle mobile data or WiFi radios is after a reboot and that may not work on all devices. Google "long ago" removed the ability to directly control those radios, even with root. Bluetooth does tend to toggle though.
So if it's going to work at all, you would have to toggle off and then reboot.
My opinion is its best to use touch emulations to activate the quick setting tile.

The problem is that it needs to turn the screen on. I keep my device in book cover so... pain in the arse :cyclops: I think I'll probably switch to "do not disturb" mode, at least it works right away

I too just purchased a lenovo Tab M7 TB-7305F (7 Inch with Android 9.0 GO - also NOT rooted).
Sorry for intruding.
Have you found a forum for this tablet?
One specific question I have is with screen rotation. In android pie you get rotation control by turning off auto-rotation in settings. That way when you rotate the tablet a small icon appears briefly in a corner. When that icon is tapped the display rotates. If not tapped on the display does not rotate.
That is what happens in my other android pie devices. But for some reason this icon does not appear on this tab. So I'm looking for a forum for help. Have you found one?

I don't know if it needs root (I am always rooted), but there is an Airplane Mode On and Off in Tasker, under Net category.
I have a task that checks if %AIR is on or off, and turn on and off accordingly.

It still is fine to toggle mobile data on and off (in my case, either Mobile Data 1 or 2 due to having dual sims), as well as wifi, without rebooting. Even works in Macrodroid (the mini Tasker-like app)
