Marshmallow
To get Google Assistant working on Marshmallow, you need to install and enable the infamous Android N-ify Xposed module.
1 - Again, make sure that the Google App version is v6.6.14.21. A higher or a lower version of the Google App probably wouldn’t work.
2 - To start with, Install Xposed Framework on your device running Marshmallow. We have a full-featured tutorial that will help you with this.
3 - Next, download and install the latest Android N-ify Xposed module

}
4 - Open the Xposed Installer app, slide out the app-menu from the left, and tap on “Modules”. Activate the Android N-ify module and reboot your device.
5 - When your device has booted successfully, go to Settings > Apps > Google app and clear its cache.
Move on to the section below to know how to trigger Google Assistant on your device running Marshmallow
Nougat
Since Xposed doesn’t support Nougat yet, you will need to make the appropriate edits on your own. Basically, you will edit the build.prop file located in the /System partition and change/add a few required values. So first, download an app that would help you do that.
We recommend BuildProp Editor app, or you can simply use a root-enabled file manager.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.apps.build.prop.editor&hl=de
1 - Open the app drawer on your phone and run the BuildProp Editor app.
2 - Grant root permissions, when the app prompts for it.
3 - Scroll down through your build prop and find the following value under “BUILD INFO”:
ro.product.model
4 - By default, this should define your device model. In our case it is “ro.product.model=Nexus 6P”.
5 - Change it to the below value:
ro.product.model=Pixel XL
6 - Next, scroll down to the end of the file and add the following line to it:
ro.opa.eligible_device=true
7 - Save and exit the app when everything is done. And reboot the device and then clear the Google App cache in Settings > Apps > Google app, for the changes to take effect.
Summon Google Assistant
To start Google Assistant on your Non-Pixel device, press and hold the “Home” button. Previously, that would bring up Google Now-On-Tap. But now, you shall see the Google Assistant right on your screen. Just go ahead and follow the on-screen instructions to set it up for the first time.
Just as Google Now, the all-new Google Assistant is configurable. Go to Google App > Settings, and tap on “Settings” under “Google Assistant”. This is where you can change your preferences and fill in your personal info.
If you’re unaware of what, and what not Google Assistant could do, you can simply go to “What can you do?” in Google App settings. There, you can get the complete overview of the available commands.
So this was how you can enable Google Assistant on your phone. We can already see the seamless possibilities with Google Assistant. It is indeed one of the most effective innovations by Google. How do you think this is going to the change the way we operate our smartphones? Let us know by dropping a comment below.

I've been noticing that a lot of people are trying to get Google Assistant on M. Why? Is there something special about it that I am missing?

Yeah I think I am not going to even bother getting that feature going. They have enough on my life on file as it is. Hahaha! ?
Is it possible to have working Assistant on Nougat, while keeping set your native language on phone (Polish in my case)? I mean - systemolish, Assistant:English.
I did have to change whole system language to get assistant working.

Hi, everyone. There was already a thread like this, but it's locked, and all the links have been removed, so I have to open a new one. I live in China, currently. I'm on the stock rom, unrooted, chinese one, and even though I've done a basic research, I can't succeed to enable this option on my phone. it's miui8.5, nougat 7.1.1, there are no Developer options in my Additional settings (or anywhere, cross my heart), and, as far as the Button Mapper app is concerned, I have no use of that, as I can't add Paypal to my Google play account, because it's registered in China (paypal), I use vpn (in order to be able to approach google at all), so the country of my order differs from the country my Paypal registration (because of vpn servers), and there's always an error, saying that. Of course, if I turn off my vpn, I won't be able to approach to playstore at all. And I need Button Mapper Pro in order to enable this, so that means - inapp purchase, which I can't do. So, my question is - is there another way (other than google play store) to buy Button Mapper Pro with Paypal, or, is there a way to set this without button mapper app (I don't want to root the phone, installed everythng I need on it, works fine in English with google play services)? Thank you
nevermind, I found the solution. thanks anyways, cheers

Split screen comes with MIUI 9, but thanks for sharing the solution with us...
Well, considering that no one ever replied, I thought it was some basic problem and everyone knows how to solve it, which is why no one wanted to bother to reply. That was my conclusion. If still interested, here's how - go to settings, option About phone, find MIUI section, and tap few times on MIUI version, that's how you unlock Developer options in Additional settings. Than, go to Additional Settings, Developer Options, scroll to the option Force activities to be resizable, and switch it ON. After that, go to Google Play Store, download the app Button Mapper, you don't have to pay for Pro, just download the basic one. Install it, and give necessary accessibility to the app (you will be prompted for that). Than go to the app menu, click on Home button, enable Customize option, then scroll down to Long press option, press it, and on it's option choose Split screen. And that's it, The middle button of your phone (3 buttons on the bottom of the screen) will now make the app you're using customizable size, you just enter the app first, than long press that button, go up with your finger without lifting it away from the screen, and that's how you choose the size of the first app on your screen. The second one you open will take the rest of the screen's space

Does the splitscreen works the same as in MIUI 9 ? l like the stock factory version which was the v8.5.5.0 but sadly there's no splitscreen support. Updated to the latest v9.2.1.0 but I'm disappointed with the battery life...if the splitscreen works the same as in the MIUI 9, I'm gonna downgrade back to v8.5.5.0 and apply the steps you mentioned above.

THREAD CLOSED
Here's a slightly modified version of AOSP for the first generation Pixel (Sailfish).
This is not a ROM that is going to blow you away with all the bells and whistles you can think of. This is my personalized version of AOSP. I've added just a few tweaks and features that I find useful. After spending a little while customizing it, and then using it for a few days, it's at a point where things seem to be working well. I'm uploading it in case anyone else wants to use it.
Features
Since I made this ROM for my own use, all of the features below are enabled by default. You won't find anything in Settings to enable or disable them.
Pixel-specific features such as Google Lens and unlimited photo storage working.
Minimum brightness set to 1 (Pixel default is 4).
Tethering enabled (net.tethering.noprovisioning=true in default.prop).
Increased media volume steps (ro.config.media_vol_steps=30 in default.prop).
Plug/Unplug does not turn screen on.
Long press back (3 seconds) to kill foreground app.
Long press power when screen is off for flashlight. Automatically turns off after 10 minutes.
Long press volume buttons when screen is off to skip tracks.
Enabled network activity indicators. This is not the activity monitor with the upload/download speed that takes up a lot of space in the status bar. These are the very tiny indicators contained in the same area of the WiFi & mobile signal status icons:

Google Apps
I've included some Google Apps from OpenGapps. I started with the smallest base package possible (pico), and then added to it. The apps I chose to include were mainly the ones that replace default AOSP apps.
Google Apps Included:
Open Gapps pico package
Google Chrome
Google WebView (ROM is also patched the allow Chrome to be chosen as the default webview in Developer settings)
Gmail (replaces stock email app)
Google Calendar
Google Calculator
Google Clock
Google Photos (replaces Gallery)
Google Contacts
Google Dialer
Google Camera
Google Messages (replaces Messaging)
Google Device Health Services
Google Wallpapers
Pixel Icons
Notable Gapps not included:
Google Now Launcher & Pixel Launcher. I use Nova Launcher, so I didn't include these.
Google Play Music. I don't use this app, but since it's not included the stock AOSP Music app is included. I just disable this so I don't have to see it in the app drawer.
Google App (Search). I found that including this package gives you both the old-style Google Now and the new Google Assistant. By leaving this out, long press on the home button doesn't do anything by default. I then installed just Google Search through the Play Store without installing the separate Google Assistant app. With this configuration, a long press on home brings up Google Now like it did back in the KitKat days. None of that annoying assistant talking to me.
The AOSP search app is included in this ROM, since nothing overrides it. I also recommend you disable this.
Download
MOD EDIT: DOWNLOAD LINK REMOVED
(Built from AOSP source version 8.1.0 r10. Security Patch Level of February 8, 2018.)
Install
Flash via TWRP, wipe cache/Dalvik, and reboot.
However, TWRP version 3.2.1 throws an error when installing OTA files (I'm not sure why). I successfully flash with TWRP 3.2.0, so that's what I recommend.
Feedback
Most of the tweaks I added were done by editing res values in overlays, or by manually adding features from the source of other ROMs. (Thanks to crDroid and CypherOS). My day job is as a DBA and I know my way around Linux pretty well, but I'm not a developer. Because of this, I'm unlikely to take requests for new features. Remember - I made this ROM for me.
That being said, I'm happy to hear any feedback, answer questions, or look into bug reports (but please show a logcat or at least tell me how to reproduce it).
Can you make a version without gapps included as well?
also Source?
Although I am enjoying the phone, there are a few issues that I struggle to get rid of.
The biggest is the lack of update so I can finally add a card to google wallet, but I'm trying to be patient.
1. Other than that, text messages....As explained earlier, it seems the debloat script removed it for some reason. I want to restore it by adding the script changing the 0 to 1, but I don't know what line referes to the message app. Any ideas? There is nothing in the debloat script saying "message" or "sms/mms"
2. Sometimes I accidently swipe right on the lock screen which produces some Chinese slideshow. Any idea how to disable and maybe add something useful to the swipe action?
3. I'm in light mode but still can't get whatsapp messages and the spotify player on the lock screen.
4. Using company portal, the only keyboard I can pick is Chinese Baidu. Company portal splits your phone in Work and Personal. Work is highly restricted and I can't figure out how to install a new keyboard.

5. Using the standard launcher; app icons for the company portal (Outlook/Teams etc) keep moving to the last page on my phone (I have 4 pages of icons). Any idea how to lock them in to place?
Thank you!
Regarding your points :
1. Usually it should be com.android.mms , which isn't on the list you're right, but just try it anyway. If not, try "ADBAppControl" for Windows and search it there. It's also simpler to re/debloat using this program anyways. Or you can try to download (or view) the app in the vivo appstore.
2. Search for the vivo app "interactions" (or long press on the homescreen and tap interactions) which has a icon of a black cube > Now, tap on the lower right corner and select "nothing".
3. Go to Settings > Security > More Security Settings > Device and App Notifications and be sure that Whatsapp and/or Spotify is allowed. You can also check on the homescreen, if you long press on the app, and tap on "App Info" > Notifications > and check "Allow Notifications" > Then check all (needed) "Alert Modes"
EDIT: > 4. Install a new Keyboard from the Playstore (lke Swiftkey or Gboard,..) Go to Settings > Apps & Permissions > Permission Management > Permission Tab > Scroll all the way down to "Default App Settings" > Input Method > Your downloaded keyboard. From there you could also replace other default apps.
> 5. There SHOULD be an extra setting in stock launcher settings.. if I remember correctly from my old X70 Pro+. But can't exactly remember, sorry.
Hope this helps somehow.
Thanks for the advice. Might be easier to just download via Vivo store. Can anyone tell me the name or show me the icon?

In the worst case - but I know that‘s not cool - you can reset your phone and all apps will come back, then debloat carefully using ADBAppControl.
EDIT : Or you could try to install the apk on Apkmirror, but don‘t know if it works :

Finished setup, works perfectly even each time reboot your phone! No need to re-do the settings after reboot
Enjoy!!!
Now it is almost the same as the factory GMS phone

good work!
