Magisk v8's compationability about suemax's kernal - Magisk

My Rom's kernal is "Suemax-kernel-Hard-Core-v1.3" for Samsung Galaxy Note 4.
When I updated Magisk from v7 to v8 in recovery mode and tried to reboot my phone,
it will stop at the second screen over 5 minutes and cannot boot into user interface.
And then I downgraded from v8 to v7, it will be back to normal.
Any ideas?

Which version of the note 4? Snapdragon or exynos?

My Note 4 is SM-N910U (exynos)

It may be an incompatibility with the exynos kernel or that kernel in particular. Have you tried others?

Yes, it works when I flash Suemax kernal basic v2.0.

Then it could be something in the hardcore kernel that doesn't like magisk. I had an issue with slowness from emotion kernel and magisk on my 910t. It kinda sucks, but unless the dev is interested in fixing it, there may not be another choice.

Flashed CM9 with glitch kernel, still have to root?

Ok, I just flashed cyanogenmod 9 with the glitch v14 beta kernel. Amazingly fast and smooth. One problem, my phone doesn't seem to be rooted...Doesn't cm9 and the glitch kernel root your phone automatically? Or did something go wrong?
Can I just use superoneclick to root it now? Or will that screw everything up?

Instead of superoneclick, try to download superuser app from the Market first.
Sent from my sgs
I already have superuser installed, it's just for managing apps that require root, not for rooting itself.
Normallary its rooted now, if you flashed the Glitch Kernel v14

Really? Damn it. You think I should reflash the kernel? If I look at the phone's information the kernel version is icy glitch v14, so it flashed fine I guess.

Hi, i have tested all the Glitch kernels extensivly and they all give me same result sooner or later, sometimes even at first reboot, they go into bootloops and there is NO way to access CWM
I would surely try the newest Devil kernel 14.2 witch is soo awesome and smooth
Had it a couple days now, and NO problems at all
The Devil rocks
Strange stuff. I tried superoneclick, but according to it the phone is already rooted...which isn't the case.
Will try to reflash the kernel with glitch. If that doesn't solve the problem i might try devil.

Can some explain to me why I would change my Kernel?

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note NT-7000 which I won in a UK competition ..
Orignally it came with Gingerbread and had excellent life - then I did the official OTA update to ICS 4.0.3 and then I found it much slower and battery life sucked
So I decided to try rooting it to allow me to reset the battery calibration file.
I followed a very good video guide BUT I didn't add the Kernal, simply because I have no idea what the Kernal does.
I am confused as to what a Kernal is and what's the pro's and cons of different Kernals - perhaps that would make for a good video?
As far as I am ware my Kernel is whatever came with the phone. What is the safest / best Kernel to put on a Galaxy Note NT-7000?
I keep hearing for trying out new ROMs that something called the Abyss Kernel is safest? Could someone explain why this is the case and what's the latest version for my phone.
I used to have a ZTE Blade and used to flash ROMs on that all the time using ROM Manager but I don't ever remember anything about a Kernel.
When I tried ROM Manager on this phone it doesn't have any option for Samsung Galaxy Note, so I didn't go ahead and install the ClockWork Recovery.

All the ICS galaxy note has eMMC bug which can brick your phone due to wipe/factory reset.so,kernels basically save you from that.and plus gives you better performance and stability.and you can do many stuffs by rooting+wd a good kernel.
if you want a kernel for your stock rooted ics 4.0.3.then go for speed kernel or notecore.both are good and double safe.
You are with a dangerous kernel right now
Flash speedmod or notecore kernel which are asfe and emmc bug free
OK I've done a bit more reading since I posted and researched, so starting to understand a bit more was a kernel does
So right now I have a standard GalaxyNote ROM 4.0.3 (although I removed two Apps Weather App and Yahoo! Finance)
So if I want to simply change the Kernel, all I have to do is push the volume up button, home key and power and then it will book into the standard CWM and from there choose update from ZIP? and that is all that is needed to update the Kernel?
I was thinking of updating using the latest version of SpeedMod on this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1673072
speedmod-kernel-n7000-ics-k3-13-CWM.zip
This version of ClockWorkMod doesn't have any backup option listed will an option to backup appear when I update the ZIP file?
I also now have Mobile Odin Pro could I use that in anyway to update the Kernel?
Do I need to change my Kernel from stock Kernel if I wish to load a totally new ROM using Mobile Odin Pro?
I was looking at perhaps trying Classic_ROM_V3 .zip which looked pretty good?

Mobile odin can be used to flash stock ROM not custom, you can flash custom kernel in same operation while flashing stock ROM with Mobile odin (by selecting custom kernel for kernel Tab)
Custom ROM will already have safe kernel, though you can change later.
Use mobile odin to flash your new custom kernal (a safe one free of emmc bug) you should then have clockwork recovery instead of stock and you can then flash new roms through said clockwork recovery. Or stay stock with the custom kernal.

Cool .. I used Mobile Odin and the speedmod-kernel-n7000-ics-k3-13-Odin.tar Kernel File .... all went well.
Now I am on Samsung's Stock 4.0.3 ROM
I've backed up this ROM in CWM to the SD Card
I ran some benchmarks before and after the Kernel upgrade - according to all the benchmarks it'snow running slower then before BUT the real world user experience seems faster.
If I were to do a Factory Reset would this Kernel now remain in place?
Also on the website I download the Kernal from (http://touristinparadise.blogspot.co.uk/search/label/Samsung Galaxy Note)
It states This version is only for Samsung ICS ROMs. It will not work with CyanogenMod or AOKP ROMS!
Does that mean Original Samsung ICS ROMs or does it also include ROMs which might be based on Samsung ROMs?
Main thing I want to try now is moving to an ICS 4.0.4 ROM so I can use the new Movable Video Feature and perhaps squeeze some more everyday battery life out of my phone.
Yes that is only for samsung galaxy note....it wnt work 4 custom roms......
Hit thanks button because we helped you

Stock Kernel

I am looking to flash back to a stock kernel because the rooted kernel is giving me reboot issues during phone calls. Does anyone know where I can find the stock Kernel file for the N920W8 (Canadian version)?

Arter97.com kernel will not reboot.
You have to reflash stock firmware without root for stock kernel.

Does arter kernel have root? I didn't see it under list of features. Also is there any lag issues with arter kernel as I saw a couple concerning posts about that?
Thanks for the reply!

It works without custom kernel! You have to root with cf auto root. Then unroot with supersu but dont restore original boot.img! It seems that magisk at least needs a custom boot.img....

I assume you have a custom kernel wirh permissive selinux installed?
Sent from my SuperMan powered SM-G930F
Yes, apparently so, although I didn't do it on purpose. I have no idea about flashing kernels and such.
For reference, the ROM I used is
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2557353
Currently running Magisk v6 with AlexisRom v7 (with Arter97 kernel) on SGS6. No issues.
Note 4 N910U, stock MM 6.0.1 PH1 installed Phh's superuser, Magisk V6, and topjohnwu's Xposed 86.5, all working flawlessly here.
Custom kernel is not installed as AP is not currently available in the region I reside, and not interested in PKM, so stock kernel fit my requirement well.
Can anyone help me? I have NOTE 3 - stock. What type of kernel?
I'm trying to use desesperadamete magisk in a note 4 N910C custom rom / android 5.1 kernel but get no root access. Agleum could give me a light?
