Get Location command woes... - Tasker Tips & Tricks

I made (from various info i found on the net) a profile that can look up the location of my phone and return the data to another phone via SMS.
In this SMS i added some extra data like battery state, cell id (if it can find some), signal strenght for those cell's, wifi signals in the neighbourhood of the phone etc...
Quick look on what it does.
SMS received with certain text.
Turn on Wifi, GPS, Mobile Data
Get a location set to ANY with "keep tracking" enabled.
Store the location and other data in variables.
Turn Off Wifi, GPS and Mobile Data
Send a return SMS with the data found in the variables.
This all works fine except for the location which only works when i have good signal, either GPS or Mobile.
If the phone is in a place where the GPS or Cell signal is weak, it returns the latest location for which i found a good signal instead of the actual location (even if it found cell towers in my current location and i'm using NET instead of ANY in the Get Location command).
On the last tries of the profile in a more covered location i get a return with an old location but do get a cell ID return with a weak signal so it should be able to locate the phone and determine location data instead of using the old ones. If i then go out in the open, it works right away as it should. I can check this because the Cell ID returned are the same when i get in the open only with a better signal.
However, if i use a location app or the Samsung's Find My Phone, in general it locates my phone even when GPS or Cell are weak (not always but often).
How do they do that and and what's their secret?

Found the answer to my question:
I only used the %LOC variable but that only returns a location obtained by GPS. If the GPS signal does not exist, it will return the last known location instead.
By changing to %LOCN to obtain Cell Tower location, it returned a true location instead of the old GPS location.

Found out that my answer didn't work out.
I'm in another location now where i have both good GPS and Cell coverage but it olny updates the GPS retrieved location, the Cell location is still the old one from my previous try although the cell tower info has changed and is one very near me.

quick gps and a-gps

when reading the forum i think people are confusing the two
our diamond has quick-gps standard. this means that it will download a list of sattelites from the internet and use this to get a faster lock.
a-gps is also available, but with adanced config only.
a-gps helps you inpositioning your device with the help of your phone network.
turning on a-gps has a negative impact on tom-tom. (reported on this forum) quick gps works very good with tomtom.
a-GPS is a logical extention to GPS if a wireless (not wifi) signal is present it allows the phone to maintain a GPS signal indoors, or areas of low gps signal.
It is NOT what some phones have reported as GPS by giving you the Cell area you are located in which may be accurate to > 100meters
It uses the cell phone to pin point the rough area it is in, then using incomplete GPS signal at the phone and / or the strong GPS signal at the A-GPS trasmitter to work out your location, it is possible for a trasmitter to be stationed indoors which will allow you to maintain a GPS lock indoors.
there is no reason it should have any effect on tomtom or anything else because its still getting accurate GPS signals all be it relayed from an earth based trasmitter.
quick GPS is a system that lets you lock on to sats quicker by giving the GPS reciever a list of information that "should" be in that area, by having this info it doesnt have to fart about to much getting GPS locks on sats that are not totally available.

Wifi location not accurate

Not really a phone issue, I know that it's with either my router or my modem (not sure how it works exactly). When I disable my GPS and put my phone on Airplane Mode (but leave Wifi on) and go into Maps, my location is incorrect. It is showing me at my old house (a few hundred miles away from where I live now). How do I go about telling whatever tracks where my router is, that it's not there anymore?
You said you turned the gps off? You have to have gps ON..lol. It is probably showing you the last location it was turned off. So turn the gps on and make sure it is receiving a signal from the birds(satellites). You cannot get a gps signal with gps off and it will not show a correct location. Wifi is for downloading the maps to show where your gps location is.

Wifi is also for location. Hence, Wifi Location. Go away until you understand the actual question.
Its not an accurate location tool, GPS is accurate the other is not.
If I turn GPS off I am usually in the middle of a field quite a way from my house, it uses the network, not WiFi (IIRC)

Obviously no one knows what I'm talking about, so nevermind.

Google Maps issue..HELP WANTED!

I've been having this problem for a while. I'm currently running FroYo
which i thought would help but it doesnt. I've ensured that My Location
Services are on but Maps and Earth keep showing my location off the coast
of Jamaica when i'm actually in Antigua. I've travelled to numerous
countries and i'm always still in Jamiaca when running from cell towers. I
hardly ever get a satellite fix, i only get it using 'GPS Status' and it
still works like 1 in every 20 tries, but when i do get a fix it is
accurate. My latitude privacy setting is set to "detect location," my GPS
and Cell tower location are on so i dont know why i'm always near Jamaica.
When i use the third party app "Anntenna" it shows the cell towers i'm
connected to and gives me a near accurate location, but maps just does not
show me anywhere near where i am and sometime it just says "your current
location is temporarily unavailable." Is there something i can do to test
that the hardware is functioning as it supposed to? idk what else to do
I've tried: Clearing the maps data cache, uninstalling and reinstalling,
powering off, hard reseting, switching privacy setting in Latitude and
nothing seems to work..someone help!
I have noticed when I am running on 3G (H) I get the "location temporarily unavailable" notice, but if I force it to not go to 3G it will be E and I get my location. This holds true if I have setting for using GPS or not.
This seems to be a problem with Google Maps using the data transfer method of 3G (H) versus E.

[Q] Your location is currently unavailable.

Sorry for another GPS question. I know that the GPS is meant to be inaccurate, but I can't get it to work at all with Google Maps. I always get the "Your Location is currently unavailable" message when I try to find my location with it. I upgraded to the latest firmware over KIES but that didn't fix it. It sometimes works with other apps, and the tests seem to show it connecting (if slowly and inaccurately). Does anyone know how to fix this?
"Your Location is currently unavailable" doesn't come from the GPS, but it comes from the Tower Network Location Service that is the other check box above the GPS settings screen
Just fixed his very issue
I had no blue dot in Google Maps.
I needed to disable wifi. Enable data through 3G.
The blue my location returned with my towers position.
I disabled 3g, enabled wifi.
All fixed now, very relieved
thanks but neither of these methods work.
Maybe your telco does not provide tower info
it actually started working again randomly. this might be a stupid question but why does google maps not use the Gps?

it can use both
Towers and/or GPS
i too have some issues with google maps and my location:
ignoring how long it takes to get my location (sometimes really fast, sometimes too long) ... it seems that it get the position using just wifi (gps ans gsm disabled), with gps, or just with the gsm on ... cool
but: sometimes i don't get my location in google maps (location unavailable!), even though i can get it in other applications that use google maps : like a tracking app ... or in google earth ... or in antennas ... etc
how can i fix this?
thank u!

Location With Tears

I'm having quite a problem getting a location fix through the use of the Get Location command when indoors (outdoors is not a problem).
Sometimes it works, mostly not and then i get the last known location in return.
It doesn't matter if use GPS, NET or ANY as source.
What i don't understand is if i use Google Maps or whatever app that needs to get a location, this works within a few seconds, even indoors, certainly if Wifi, Mobile Data and GPS are used together.
How does it come then that the Get Location command can't give me that info when ANY is used as source?
