This is my first walkthrough so I will do my best to do this properly. The Honor Note 8 does not have a forum yet, and this is the third thread for this phone. Hopefully we can get a forum up soon.
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNLOCKING BOOTLOADER WILL WIPE YOUR DEVICE AND POSSIBLY VOID YOUR WARRENTY!!!
I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE IF SOMETHING DOESN'T WORK.
Unlock Bootloader
Follow the steps here to begin the Bootloader Unlock process:
https://www.dc-unlocker.com/how-to-read-huawei-bootloader-unlock-code
1. a) Install the application
1. b) Follow the steps on the above page to put phone into "Manufacture Mode"
1. c) Under "Select Manufacturer", choose "Huawei Phones" and under "Select Model", choose the model of your phone
1. d) Click on "Buy Credits". You should end up being emailed a username and password, return to the Unlocker Client, and input those two
1. e) The Unlocker Client should return the bootloader unlock code
2. a) Enable Developer Options by clicking on the build number multiple times
2. b) Turn on USB Debugging
3. Prepare TWRP custom recovery before preceeding further. You can get it from here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4xzs81XsmURVTRnUDJHdl9CQlE
3. Prepare and install ADB and Fastboot tools. I used this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979
4. Go into the folder with your recovery and open a CMD (if you used system-wide ADB as linked above, otherwise place recovery in your ADB folder)
5. Put the phone into Bootloader mode with:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
. This will take you to the bootloader mode (white screen with some small text)
6. Now type:
Code:
fastboot oem unlock <UNLOCK_CODE>
where
Code:
<UNLOCK_CODE>
is the bootloader code that the Unlocker Client gave you
Loading TWRP Custom Recovery
7. Your phone may reboot when the process is complete. We want to go back into Bootloader mode, so follow Step 5 again to go back to bootloader mode
8. Now type:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery <NAME_OF_YOUR_RECOVERY.img>
The recovery will flash over to your device. We want to reboot into the recovery mode.
9. Now type:
Code:
fastboot reboot
but just before you hit ENTER on that command, start holding VOLup and VOLdown at the same time (as explained below)
This phone has two recoveries on it, which is great since it makes it really hard to brick. In order to access custom recovery, you need to hold down both VOL buttons during boot process (from the very beginning) in order to access the custom recovery.
Once you have entered TWRP, you will most likely notice that it is in CHINESE. If you don't read chinese, follow the steps below to change to English UI in TWRP:
Change to English UI in TWRP
10. TWRP has two columns of 4 buttons, 8 buttons total. I have labeled the buttons as per their position as below:
1 2
3 4
5 6
7 8
11. Click button 6 to go to the Settings, then click on the "Globe" icon, then switch to english and click the button in the bottom right corner.
BACKUP!!
12. I highly recommend you now do a TWRP backup and place the backup on an External SD card (not the internal memory). This will save your ass if you mess anything up or it doesn't work for you. Do a full backup (select ALL of the options).
Installing Xposed
Grab the Installer APK here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3034811
and the Framework zip here: http://dl-xda.xposed.info/framework/sdk23/arm64/
Put both files onto your SD card.
13. Boot into your rom, install the APK file (you may need to enable "unknown sources")
14. Then boot back into TWRP. Do this by restarting the phone, and just as the screen goes black, hold down both VOL buttons until you see text on the screen.
15. Install the framework, wipe cache/dalvik and reboot the phone
ROMs
There are several roms, all of which can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/general/huawei-honor-note-8-roms-t3487575
I will try to update this post with instructions on how to install them once I have the process down properly.
Thanks to:
@benmeroff for his posting of all of those ROMs and his work on the original thread.

Just another small reminder this Xposed apk link is broken. Could I just download any Xposed apk or was this link for a specific version for the Note 8?
Thanks

The is no way I can install this drivers that are required... if I click the setup icons nothing happens at all, and if i try manually all i get is 4x "Android device" in the device manager, and locating drivers in the designated folders does not help, it still says "windows did not find the driver for your device...."
Anyone maybe had a similar problem/solution?
Thanksss

Thank you man, worked like a charm! I got the bootloader code... but since it's gonna wipe everything if I unlock it, I'm gonna wait until the next weekend most probably, too busy these days.
Hi guys,
i was able to unlock the bootloader but i can't flash the recovery and every time i try it display "remote: command not allowed".
Good morning.
I hope for Christmas to be a holder of Honor Note 8.
To unlock the bootloader you need to pay 4 euro through dc-unlocker.com program?
Thank you

TWRP - changing language
OP - thank you for this thread. Was able to follow the steps and get most of the things accomplished.
One thing that i am having trouble with is - changing the TWRP language from Chinese to English. In button #6, the globe icon is not even clickable. All others are, but that one is not. Any ideas? Thanks!
EDIT: I got it to work. It seems some icons in the corners of the screen can be a little hard or slow to respond... if you (a future reader) are having the same issue - try kind of mini swiping in circles over that icon and it will eventually respond.
Hi,
I requested the unlock code on the Huawei site but I get this error:
The Huawei ID used to apply for the unlock code has not been used on the device for more than 14 days.
How can I do?
Some might apply to me

Dear Xda'ers,
I am really desperate on the situation and need your help.
I tried every solution to get into recovery mod including SFT and others available, no luck in getting there.
The rom is working, so no bricked phone situation, problem is gapps terminates itself making email and other functions unreachable.
So I want to switch to either the official rom or another one which is in the forum.
Phone is roooted by the way.
Any suggestions?
PS. As put in the title, this roms cook told me that he cannot help me.

Hello.
If you just want to get into recovery mode, open terminal emulator.
Type
'su'
Allow it and type
'Reboot recovery'
Without '.
Works under cwm.
If this doesn't work.
Use smart flash tool.
(Quoted) ⬇
After flashing your phone should Boot into recovery.
Dont forget to do always a factory reset. If not -> bootloop
radkor said:
SmartFlash Tool completly erases device memory during flashing.
Phone will make Factory Reset at first boot after flashing!
You can upgrade and downgrade. You can downgrade from V20N too!
This also will remove phone lock if you forget unlock code or pattern. (phone lock, NOT simlock or network lock...)
This method doesn't need internet connection.
If you want to flash an LG P970H download correct ROM from link below.
With this solution you can unbrick LG Optimus Black P970.
It fixes bootloop, "ERROR LG Security Team", and BSOD - blue screen with green writings (untested).
Only requirement is ability to enter in to S/W Update mode and not broken hardware.
Tested on: Windows 7 Ultimate x86, x64 and Windows XP Pro SP3.

ok it seems there is also an other way to enter recovery:

Cant you push recovery through adb/fastboot?

Do you still have cwm and the custom ROM on your phone? If yes, simply download quickboot or rommanager from playstore and hit reboot recovery.

Hi guys,
Tried the two methods from DuffBoon and wash beer - no luck.
I think there is something wrong with gapps as it gives an error when I try to download smth from Google Play- so no option to load any new app.
I go into terminal emulator, input 'su' and have superuser rights, than punch 'reboot recovery', it reboots but no recovery at all.
My diagnosis is CWM and gapps is broken somewhat; SFT or another method is not working for that reason.

But your system is still working? There is an adb flashable cwm recovery from redy06 somewhere here. Google:
Xda cwm touch redy06
And youll probably find it. You can flash it with the device on. There also is a reboot recovery script in the pack, so you can check if it works or not.

PREREQUISTES:
First of all, You should Unlock Bootloader so that on every reboot, Your Root shouldn't damage. You can unlock bootloader by simple procedure...and also enable the USB Debugging from Developers options in settings...

Latest OTA broke this method
I can't reflash TWRP/Root since my phone got the latest OTA firmware update.
It seems to flash the recovery correctly, but when I want to boot into it, I just get the EMUI recovery.
I tried several times.
My phone is a VNS-31 version VNS-L31C432B150 with EMUI 4.1.1.
Send the screenshot of cmd commands when you flash it.....
And one more thing, you need to check your bootloader again,,, i heard that it got relock again on firmware upgrade... Check that too,,, at last, see in usb debugging options that oem enabled or not!!

Guide
First we must unlock the bootloader to do this enable developer options by going to Settings>About and tap on Build Number untill developer mode has been enabled then goto Settings>Developer Options
then enable Allow OEM Unlock and Usb Debugging if you dont have these options you will need to downgrade Download
now power off your device and then press Volume UP + Power to enter the bootloader
once in the bootloader press volume up to select fastboot and volume down to enter fastboot
once in fastboot we type the command fastboot oem unlock
this will wipe your data so make sure to backup
Once bootloader is unlocked we can flash TWRP in fastboot using the command fastboot flash recovery twrp-recovery.img
once you have flashed TWRP you can exit fastboot mode by holding down Volume UP + Volume DOWN + Power
now you can enter TWRP by pressing Volume UP + Power and this time selecting recovery
Now we are inside are recovery we have a choice of having a fresh start or modding are current system
if you want a fresh start wipe system and data then flash stock Asus ROM Download after you flash the stock Asus ROM reboot to recovery again as this will prevent the next flash from failing if TWRP asks to install SuperSU say no
Now we need to flash the first part of my mod Google4Go_Part1_ZC500TG_Z00VD_xxxxxx.zip
If you want to have root flash the latest SuperSU Download
Now reboot to system and setup your device like normal
If you would like the Stock SystemUI (screenshot 3) go back into recovery and flash Google4Go_Part2_ZC500TG_Z00VD_xxxxxx.zip
Once you boot again you will need to enable google keyboard and you will also need to set your default sim card inside settings

yes i tested it on version 12.1.0.47 but you need to flash part 2 after you have booted up at least once
Thank you very much sir, awesome work.
Should I update the system when requested, or will I lose the changes? I've installed both parts.
EDIT: I've also encountered some bugs since installation, like wrong notification drop-down background blending with the fonts, and USB icon not showing when connected to a computer.

When you update the system it will install all the old Asus apps and change the SystemUI back to stock but you can just flash my zips again after a update and it should work fine
but keep a backup on your computer just in case you get a boot-loop after updating but even if you do get a boot-loop you should be able to backup using TWRP
USB icon works fine for me (screenshot's attached)
this is my grandmother's phone and the few apps she has installed she does not have no font blending but i cant see how this could happen as Asus's stock system UI was also white so the framework font colors should be fine what app was you using that has font bending?

It may work as the mod does not really do anything specil other then delete and add files
first backup your phone
then try my mod
If it does not work you can flash factory image from here: http://www.asus.com/Phone/ZenFone-Go-ZB551KL/HelpDesk_Download/
make sure you know how to flash factory image before trying
I also don't know if the twrp i posted for the ZC500TG/Z00VD will most likely not work for the ZB551KL so you may need to search online for a version that works for your phone
Thanks. It's awesome, but I have one teensy little problem. The contacts app doesn't support SIM anymore, and I can't miss that feature I use my SIM for storing my contacts. Though I could import, I couldn't add new ones. Also, SIM contacts doesn't show in thr contact list (unless, well, if I import them).
Edit: Stock SMS app too. Messenger doesn't support multiple SIM cards.

This is the standard way its the same on my nexus 5
you have a few options
1: extract the original contact app from the asus's factory image /system/priv-app/Contacts
you can use Extractor
then place it into your /system/priv-app/ folder
or the better and cleaner method is to just download a app from the playstore
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=sim card contacts&c=apps
here are a few that come up on the search i have not tested
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.needom.simcontacts
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.penumbra.apps.SIM_Contacts_Manager
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.asus.contacts
I'm sure you can find more if you search
I do not believe google wants users to use sim card contacts anymore, as this feature has been disabled for nexus devices for a long time maybe it's time to stop using this feature as you never know if your future phone will have this feature
No is rooted not get in zb551kl unlocking the bootloader and not the root.
I did unpack / repack the system.img
I am studying how to solve the whole signature verif error in adb sideload.
I found no work in this device.

If your able to flash a custom recovery(TWRP) on your phone then yes the mod should work
I not sure if the recovery i posted will work for your device it could soft brick your phone so flash at your own risk
Yeah, i don't think is gonna be possible, i wasn't able to unlock the bootloader, so no custom recovery for me, i guess. I tried downgrading to early versions of the stock ROM, but the phone tells me i can't flash an older ROM on top of a new one
Thank you so much for this great mod sir!, one thing, i have noticed on the top of the lock screen some kind of running text along with my carrier name "You have incorrecly drawn your unlock pattern %d ... etc". how can i remove this text?

reboot to recovery and use command
adb sideload /path/to/factoryimage_onyourcomputer.zip
then i enabled developer options then in there i turned on Allow OEM Unlock
then i was able to unlock bootloader

This is because we are using the asus framework-res.apk with stock google systemui.apk and the text inside the framework-res.apk are not matching up correctly
we would need to edit the system/framework/framwork-res.apk so the text is correct
but i currently don't have the Asus Zenfone GO with me to test as its my grandmothers phone and my grandmother is not staying at our house
but if you like you can try editing the framework-res.apk yourself there are some guides online: https://www.google.com.tr/search?q=framework-res.apk+edit
If you manage to fix it feel free to share it with us
or another option is to not flash part 2 so you keep the original lock screen

Unable to enter Recovery Mode/ Can't OEM Unlock (z00vd/ZC500TG).
Greetings everyone!
I have the Zenfone GO (z00vd/zc500tg), and after I try to remove root I couldn't turn on the phone anymore.
I tried several tutorials, but none helped, something like the below:
-"try to recovery img via ADB" (but don't have permissions since I can't unlock OEM)
-"try to enter recovery mode with vol up + power" (but when I try this, the phone brick on ASUS logo)
So, I feel like I lost my phone ... can someone give an light?

There are some "globalised" china roms which are doing a decent job (with notifications sound fixed, chinese bloatware removed and google services installed), I recommend the one made by Francko76.
Also you can try all the treble stuff out there. I only tried two GSIs so far and I went back to Francko´s build.
Anyway I´m like you looking forward z6 pro dedicated custom roms.

Restore stock bootloader?
Hello, I recently went through the whole process of unlocking bootloader, installing TWRP recovery and flashing ROM, and I am at version 11.0.350 ST ROW currently.
The ROM works fine, but now at every boot I am greeted by the "The boot loader is unlocked and software integrity cannot be guaranteed. <snip> Press power button to pause boot/continue" notice.
According to google, it's apparently a result of the bootloader unlocking process.
I tried to lock the bootloader again using "fastboot flashing lock", but then the phone stopped booting normally. It got stuck at the boot logo (which I believe means bricked?).
It wouldn't work until I unlocked bootloader and reflash the ROM.
So what I want to ask is, is it possible at this time to restore the bootloader to stock to avoid that "boot loader unlocked" notice and possibly become eligible for warranty again?

I have all the files needed to setup sp flash and try to put again the Rom in the phone, which is now not unlocked and no usb debugging on.
Can someone please give me a tutorial on how to use those files? My phone still not recognised in sp flash com port, I don't know how to do.
If anyone will help me it will be so appreciated, thanks!
If you need to disable authorisation, did you run the MTK Auth Bypass tool and get the message "Protection disabled"? That's what I had to do before SP Flash Tool would flash the phone (without disconnecting it or rebooting), and I also had to set the baud rate to 921600, although that was all under Linux, and the phone was still unlocked.
it's complicated. with phone locked fastboot commands don't work. with my hold mi a3 fastboot flashing unlock command work. but with miui and mtk chipset probably it's useless. but u can try. if u boot into bootloader with mediatek driver the pc should recognize your phone also if it's blocked

1. Check your device driver for USB, suggest you re-install the MTK usb driver.
2. First run the program, select the Auth by pass then press start.
3. Make sure phone is in "power off" state, press Vol+, Vol- and power (all three at the same time), and don't release it, plug in USB cable and wait.... Don't release these three buttons until it is Auth by pass OK.
During this process, take a look at device manager, there must be one item like portable device - USB ( Com 3). keep flashing.
sure u add reinstall mtk driver
