I bought a B1-850 for my ageing mother (she's 91 years old), and she often accidentally re-arranges the shortcuts on her homescreen(s) by tapping them for too long. This also results in additional homescreens being created, with random shortcuts on them. As a consequence she has problems finding the apps and widgets that I've set up for her. I want to replace the launcher with one that allows the layout of the home screen to be locked (as well as disabling additional homescreens being created).
I tried Nova Launcher, but that frequently failed to respond to the home button (due to either a compatibility of performance issue maybe?), so that would have confused my mother too much. Can anyone recommend a launcher that works well on the B1-850, and which can be "locked down" to prevent accidental changes to the layout?

Question. I seem to have lost my home screen on touchwiz.now when I double click home it slides to the last page of however many pages I've set up no matter if I then shuffle them around each other. Additionally, in edit mode none of my home screen pages show a house icon, specifying home screen, ie the one touch wiz defaults to with home screen double click. anyone know how to restore a touchwiz home page?
There's no way to restore any screens once they get deleted on touchwiz . Sorry
Sent from my fonez so excuze the speling erors
just to be clear i'm not trying to restore a home screen that i've organized widgets and links with.. i'm just trying to reset one of the homescreens to the home one with a home icon. If you edit your homescreens you'll find that one of your screens has a house icon on it and thats the one touchwiz will swing to when you double click the home button.
Anyone?
you found one of the odities of the Touchwiz home screens. If you have less then 5 ( i think) the one on the end becomes your home and you can't change it. If you have 5 or more you can move them around to make the middle one home.
TouchWiz uses pane 4, or the highest number to it as Home. I've never found a way to change this. (aka 3 if you have 3...)
I too had this problem. The only way I found was to leave it on the 7 screen configuration, and just leave the end screens blank.
Hmmm. I seem to have stumbled into this as well. I didn't think it would be possible, but I deleted an empty page and now don't seem to be able to create a new one (now that I have more crap I want to load on one).
yes thats one of the bugs in touchwiz I think. Unless you have 7 screens; the rightmost screen becomes your Home screen. I tried looking for a solution for long time and no go yet. Lets wait for froyo update and may be a new touchwiz! btw you can always install launcher pro or ADWLauncher. But I think touchWiz is more sophisticated that those two.
There is a free app in the market, called SGS Screen Changer that let's you set the default screen when you use the Home Button (needs root and Busybox to work).
Good luck!
I've tried the following launchers; Launcher Pro, Launcher 2.3, and Zeam Launcher. All are fantastic but seem to have one fatal flaw.
When I attempt to hold screen -> Add item -> Shortcut, or any variation of this, the screen merely flashes and I cannot add an Application Short Cut.
Other additional items, such as Widgets or Actions work fine, but the Shortcut/Folder does not.
Is this a problem with my Nook, rooting, or just the incompatibility?

It's just another thing B&N stripped out of the android operating system. The best way to make a shortcut is to hold it from the apps menu and then you can drag it to anywhere on your desktop. All launchers as far as I know do this. Get anycut if you need to make more shortcuts. That seems to work fine for me.
Yep, open apps drawer and press and hold you app. then move it where you want it. Different from android phones, but it works.
Hello all, I am really wanting to change the default launcher on the nook color but my wife is being a hard sell. She doesn't want to lose the scrolling book cover feature that runs along the bottom of the home screen. Are there any apps or widgets out there that will allow this feature on an alternate launcher? I would love to do more with my home screen but she uses it more than I do so I need to accommodate her as well.

you could install zeam and just never check the checkbox for the what the default home screen should be. That way when you click N it'll give you a prompt to which homescreen you want to go to. I did that and I keep accidentally checking the box while navigating through. I wish there was a way to have a widget to link to the BnN homescreen so I could navigate there if and when I want to, which isn't too often. But it's kind of like a cyber book shelf and I don't care much for the library interface.
Just get the home switcher app from the market.

You could use home switcher or alternatively, go to uninstall the application and reset the default behavior.
Also, installing another Launcher will bring the choice back
Yea, I totally feel you guys. I was just trying to avoid having to switch home screens. Have my cake and eat it too sort of situation. Maybe I will play with some ideas tonight and repost if I discover any neat tricks... (of course that assumes I can pry it away from her...)
I would say install SoftKeys and set it as the home launcher. Then in the SoftKeys app set it so one hardware click B&N Launcher and two hardware clicks your custom luncher. So when she uses it the home button brings the nook home screen but if you want the custom launcher press it twice I do the opposite but I still access the old launcher every now and then
you need another nc.

How do you set two launchers to the Home button with Softkeys? I only get launcher and softkeys as options.
B&N home popup
I installed Zeam, but still frequently get the B&N popup when I try to go back by left swiping the soft arrow at the bottom. How do I kill that?
Go to the settings for SoftKeys and you can set a short press of the button for one launcher and a long press for a different launcher.
My preferred lancher is ADW. I downloaded AnyCut from the market and used it to make a shortcut to "Home" on the desktop. That opens the Nook home screen if I want it. You can also download Home Switcher or Home Manager from the market to open a different launcher or change the default.
So I found out that using Desktop Visualizer on Launcher Pro Plus that I can create a widget to launch B&N Home. Problem solved. Now I have two new ones:
1) My keyboard keeps flipping out and doing repeated button presses
2) I can't add shortcuts to the Launcher Pro home screen (widgets = fine, shortcuts = no dice)
Anyone else having these issues? I know that, regarding the keyboard, I just installed a screen protector right before it started having problems, but I can't imagine how that could cause them. I may just wait it out and if it persists, try a factory reset...
Edit: I also forgot that problem #3 is that I can't remove or change shortcuts in the dock for Launcher Pro. Kind of lame to have my dock icons as phone, contacts, and messaging...

I have yet to find anywhere to long press the physical home button, only the soft button. I'd like to be able to launch an alternative launcher (or the softkeys themselves) with a long press rather than double press.

I've tried 4 different launchers and no matter how I set their respective Home Button options, I still get the B&N popup from the soft button. How can it override the launcher settings?

You mean the Carrot/Arrow button? You're always going to get that, it's part of the framework. Most likely that won't go away until a custom ROM is available.
Ah, thanks. Crap
One other option is to use the original B&N Home with Smart Taskbar and Button Savior. You won't have widgets on your screen at all times, ST makes a pretty decent launcher for other apps.
Hello,
I have tried Nova Launcher and Xposed Additions pro and nothing seems able to allow me to COMPLETELY map at all times "double press of home = applications list"
I don't care how "evil" it is, I want my iphone and my android to behave identically. - If you told me I'd want this a year ago, I wouldn't believe you - but alas I NEED to use an iphone as my secondary phone, regularly.
I _REALLY_ want double press home to be "recent app list" at ALL times.
It's inconsistent under Nova Launcher.
Under Xposed Additions ($4 no less,.. thank god for refunds) I can only choose to launch an application, not do a hard function (show recent app list)
Yes, I've completely disabled S-Voice, I couldn't care less about Google Now - that's disabled too (I think)
Help!? someone - what do I need to do, to make this work, ***consistently***.
Note: at least Nova Launcher allows me to swipe down to bring up the recent app search.
You have a capacitive button for that. Don't think many people will come to your aid on this. You could try playing around in the keyboard XML and see if you can do some experimenting to get what you want.
Hey everyone,
I have the Blackberry Keyone. LOVING the phone, it is absolutely great. The stock launcher is quite slick too, and has an amazing feature integrated - physical keyboard shortcuts. I can assign any key on my phone 2 shortcuts (press and long press) to open apps, compose sms, etc.
I was wondering if I could use Tasker to do something similar in a 3rd party launcher, namely Nova. The issue is, there is no root for this device (and probably never will be). Is it doable?
