FireOS 5.4 aka the Alexa update problems - Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This is my first thread so sorry if I have some weird things. Has anyone gotten the update? I've been waiting since the 26th. I have the fire 7 2015 running FireOS 5.3.1. is it my tablet? Because it's not showing up on Amazon's website either. Any help would be appreciated
Update: updated to FireOS 5.3.2 today and Alexa is here!

Strange. Make sure you have a legit copy (below). If still no joy you may need to reinstall FireOS to make a clean start.

I've tried the KingRoot.net apk, even tried through adb, no luck. And I need to backup my games to factory reset or reinstall FireOS

Yup. Sounds like you know what needs to be done. Once backed up I doubt a factory reset will do the trick as it only removes user apps and data. Probably need to reinstall FireOS.

Search the 5.3.1 root thread for the proper kingroot version then go for instructions to install supersu

Them follow the flash fire instructions on the cm12 thread

If you go for SuperSume beware of the soft brick following reboot risk as documented in the 5.3.1 thread referenced above. SuperSU is a FlashFire prerequisite unless running on a CM based ROM.

Supersusme doesn't work but the linkiI posted did

I'm running 5.3.2. I can't find a single post talking about rooting this version. Everything is 5.3.1. Is anyone working on this? I can't seem to get the 5.3.1 downgrade to work either. Any advice?

[Q] After Amazon OTA Update, I'm Screwed

I've been trying to use KF First Aide and it's saying I've got root, but when I run rootchecker, it's saying it's not rooted. When I try starting superuser, it says the binaries werent there and it can't install them. I tried using KFFA's option to install the Play store, but of course it's not even showing on my kindle.
How can I just wipe the whole thing and start over from the beginning? Can anyone give me a list of exactly what I need to DL (and where to get it) to root and get all of the Google services up and running?
I've been going through the root threads and it's just running me to other threads and I'm going in circles and nothing is working.
Thanks for your help!
Me Too!!!
I am having exactly the same problem. I ended up finally doing a full factory reset from within the KFHD7's settings, and trying to re-root via First Aide (4.1.83beta) and it is doing NOTHING!!! I have done every little thing I can think of and am stumped. Without root, my Kindle is worthless to me.

[Q] How to root kindle fire HD 7" version 7.4.8?

I've been browsing Kindle fire HD root videos and forums all day. There seem to be almost none for the 7.4.8 version. I cannot find any videos or tutorials for my kindle version. Do I need to downgrade? If so, how? Where do I begin? I'm a newbie.
Root it just like you would the other versions. Binary's root or kffa root, if nothing else works just downgrade it, those are prerooted.

Asides this, will I also be able to successfully root through the tutorials on youtube which are meant for version 7.4.6?
They should work, as far as I know nothing has ever changed in the rooting process for this device.

Thank you
I also lost root with the update to 7.4.8 a few days ago.
I originally rooted my kindle with bin4ary's root, but that program was able to re-root it.
Thank you for suggesting KFFirstAide because that program was able to restore root for me.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I rooted a 7.4.8 this week, it was no different to do than before it was upgraded, I think the user had upgraded the firmware to 7.4.8 and caused a boot loop problem, so it had to be put back to stock and then re-rooted, just take your time and follow all the instructions to the letter, I used "Root Many Android" as the software, also ensure the ADB drivers are correctly installed >and working< and you set the windows Enviromental Variables path correctly, ensure the kindle is charged up before you start. Good luck
Downgrade 7.4.8

I have been trying to root my Kindle all morning, searching through videos here and downloading links. All I have ended up doing is getting a bunch of malware on my computer which I can't remove! And now when I go to uninstall programs it only shows I have 3 programs installed. I'm so frustrated and I just want my computer back to normal. Please, can anyone help me?

Eh... Not exactly the best place to ask for help fixing your pc. That can be more difficult to explain how to fix over the net, If you want someone to repair your pc for free then pm me or hit me up on skype, i can fix pc's remotely assuming it still gives you network access and lets you install programs, and also assuming the virus isnt the kind that prevents me from fixing it short of pulling the hard drive and scanning it remotely. However i will say this, if your programs list only has 3 programs on teh add remove page, its possible some registry keys were deleted.
If however you are looking for the kindle fire 7 hd 2012 root utility, use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2096888
if its the 2013 model, don't use that there's another tool for it.

[Q] Kindle Fire 7.4.8 did not root with the bin4ry method

Hi, I'm new to this and I'm just wondering why my kindle fire running on 7.4.8 did not root. I followed all the steps for bin4ry, everything went well (backed up rebooted and all) but at the end, the device did not have the superuser app. So I'm assuming it did not root. So what happened? I hope someone can help me with this. Thanks.

Hi, thanks for your reply, I wasn't able to use your suggestion but I was able to root the kindle already (checked via root checker). For some reason, the superuser is just not appearing. I've read about it on other threads and they said that I would just have to install the superuser app via google play store. So I'm currently working on that. Thanks again!

My kindle fire updated to 5.1.2 and I didnt realize it, is there anyway to reset it?

I thought i blocked it when I used the tool to unlock the google playstore and everything, obviously i was wrong.
Is there anyway to set it back to 5.0.1 or even 5.0.0, also is there any way to do that without losing all of my apps/information.
Or can i simple run that google playstore tool again. Thats all i really want on my tablet right now, dont reallly want to root kit it at the moment, and i dont wanna brick it, messing around myself. So if there is anyway to get the play store working on 5.1.2 again or resetting it to 5.0.1 or 5.0.0 with or without losing my data can anyone please let me know and help me out if possible. Thanks guys
Edit: Ok the original install google play tool still works with 5.1.2 without any problems and it still lets you reblock updates (as far as i know, it said it worked) and now my playstore works again.
What exactly did you do? Uninstall all the google framework etc? Just reflash the bat script?

Yeah i uninstalled all the google framework, the playstore any google related stuff. Re ran the the update blocking and re-ran the playstore install from the batch file
pic added
I have 2 tablets, and both were patched with Glytchy's script. One of the tablet never updated to 5.1.2 from 5.1.1, but the other tablet did, and it removed root.
I try running the script again on the 5.1.2 tablet, but it doesn't work (see picture).
How did you get it to work? Maybe your never really installed 5.1.2, and only downloaded it?
This doesn't work for me anymore. My fire updated and wouldn't sign in after that. I uninstalled all the google stuff. Reflashed the bat file posted by shadow. Now when I try to add my google account it says can't establish connection with the server.

I'm using this method. It didn't block updates or remove ads. It had worked just fine on the last 2 previous system os updates. http://forum.xda-developers.com/amazon-fire/general/installing-google-framework-playstore-t3216122

Not sure which method you used as the linked post contains references to many other articles. If you used 'adb shell pm hide' then I'm not surprised it didn't work. Preferred method is to rename components responsible for providing OTA functionality.

Damn I've restored it too, still no dice. My other 2 kindle fires are ok so far on 5.1.2
I bought them all at the same time.
I messed up and had my kindle automatically updated to 5.1.2
Same here, update to 5.1.2 and now rooting not possible. Therefore no FlashFire, therefore no custom rom, therefore lots of time wasted...
It is new guys, give it some time... I am sure people are working on it... Just keep an eye for it...

How do I replace KingRoot with SuperSU?

Hello, just got the tablet and I'm rooted and everything thanks to root junky and this community!
The only issue I have on 5.3.1 is that I try and replace ringroot with SuperSU but it won't update the binary. Can anyone lend me a hand to tell me what I am doing wrong?
Thanks!

I noticed this on my fire 5.1.3. When I saw that message on CMD window, I just dragged supersu from supertool folder over CMD and it replaced kingroot automatically. Hope that helps.

Err...no, that won't work. Use the conversion function built into the 5th gen SuperTool. Select the option to root then skip over the KingRoot section as device is already rooted. SuperTool will the proceed with removing KingUser and installing SuperSU.

how to do that, I have seen option 6, which is combination of installing kingroot, get root access and then replace it SuperSu. In my experience, I noticed it does not do anything after I get root access on fire tablet. But when I drag and drop it works. I am not expert but open to your suggestion.
Thanks for your help! Davey can you please elaborate on conversion function? Not really sure what to do?

Not sure where the confusion lies. When option #7 is selected in the lastest SuperTool build two things happen:
- attempt to root using KingRoot
- once rooted SuperTool will then attempt to replace KingUser with SuperSU
Note: an active adb (tethered) connection to the device must exist for the conversion process to work. Also make sure you have the Oct 2016 build of the SuperTool.
