Not sure if substratum would make an animated navigation bar like the pixels anyway I.have substratum on aicp 12.1 I've got the pixel navbar but its just static no animation however the animated navigation bar is working on the fake Nexus Rom for the Nexus 5 so it is definitely doable

Disable/Enable Google Search Bar in ICS

Just as the title says...
Friend tipped me to the CM9 Kangs ongoing for Nexus S by Euroskank and said they had the option to disable/enable the Google Search bar on the homescreen.
From homescreen select Menu/Preferences/Homescreen/Search bar enable-disable
Its a modded stock Launcher2.apk and this Preferences option isn't in the stock launcher along with some other mods on the Nexus S/CM9 version. Anyways the search bar part works but the other options need to be implemented/ported over to work on the Nexus S 4G.
Anyways... Here's the Launcher I pulled from the Euroskank/CM9 Kangs, flash and enjoy...
Download
FYI, the real estate used by the Google Search bar is still just a blank space and not usable
Aww boo I might as well leave the search bar if I can't use the space. Thanks for the link though.

Yes I know the feeling.. From my research nobody has figured out how to use that space but really its only a few lines and a widget or icon wouldn't even fit in that small piece of real estate so it may remain as is...
At least we have the option to get rid of it so I don't have to stare at it all day now.. LOL

Thanks, all I did was pull it and package it up into a flashable.. Euroskank takes the credit
Actually looking into what it would take to port the preferences over too... Never done a port/kang on this level so I'm cautiously tip toeing through it... Smali code... Its the devil in disguise... LOL
you get the same effect, if you delete the "quicksearchlook.apk" ...

Your correct.. But hey we all like user selectable options right? Not any fun having to go into Root Explorer/ES File Explorer and rename or delete the GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk..
Besides the Preferences is a look into what more options we will have very soon as they are implemented.
settings/apps/all search click disable.

[Tweak] How to remove the softkeys/navbar WITHOUT remove the statusbar.

Edit your build.prop and add this line:
qemu.hw.mainkeys=1
It's cool if you like to use LMT or PIE, that permit to use the full screen and keep the statusbar features.
Need a reboot.
Don't use "expand desktop" option.
Off course, activate another Softkeys/navbar solution (LMT,PIE...) BEFORE add the line in the build.prop !
LMT : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330150
PIE is roughly the same (less functions) as LMT and it's directly inculded in PA, RootBox...
Please report how it work on other ROM/Kernel.
Edit : Now using PA, just go to Settings/Hybrid Property/Interface dans set Nav. Bar to 0.
That do the trick.
Enjoy
Thanks, didn't think it was that easy.

Thank you for this. Great information. Sadly can't access that file yet until I am rooted, but I do look forward to it.
in pa you simply set navbar to 0%. done. no reboot needed. and pie is not part of lmt. lmt is a ready made google control tweaked a bit. pie is an open source control written from scratch. everything that goes beyond simple navigation is pie and was pies from the beginning. lmt took/replicated some of these ideas now, but please someone stop that meme already, i seriously cant see it anymore. everyday lmt gets another idea from us and people then come and say we got it from them is like a kick in the kneecap.

Doesnt make a difference in PA, same effect as setting the nav bar to 0% in PA settings the issue I have is that PIE works in basic mode where there is only the buttons no notifications when I activate it. Would rather have that function as I liked that part of it .
If you look at this thread again Moles, any idea?.
Thanks op . this was bugging me for ages !!!!

awesome..thanks for this...which one would you recommend though? LMT or PIE?
I used LMT but it seems like it lags a tad. Hitting the back button on my nav bar responds a lot faster than touching the back button on LMT...or is it just me?

I use PIE included in Rootbox box and no problem, no lag or anything esle. It's a a quitte difficult at the beginning to get the right movement but a bit of training and it's good for me.
I use LMT on my Galaxy tab without lag too...

I use Button Savior with this line added to system/build.prop "qemu.hw.mainkeys=1". Works like a charm. Button Savior is available at https://play.google.com/store/search?q=button+savior and provides hidden soft keys navigation available with a simple swipe or by clicking an app icon. Works with any launcher.

Just taking a guess but did you accidentally change permissions of the build.prop file or mistype the command?

Yes. It will come back if you delete that line.
Although it's been said already, make sure you have an alternate nav key option installed before adding that line.

It would have to be implemented by the person making the rom, the galaxy S3 has it and so does Venom Rom on the HTC, so I do believe it's possible, unfortunately I am in no place to say how.
I would very much like this myself, it's a great thing to have.
Think it's called a persistent notification bar only hidden.
You aren't doing anything wrong by the way.
Try this app no need for root https://play.google.com/store/apps/...&utm_medium=organic&utm_term=smart+status+bar

LG devices have already had this feature for a while.
I'm sure we'll see something similar in custom roms soon. But if the one hand use is so troublesome, why not just go to pie controls? Easy to do with root.

Don't need an app - just modify your build prop and add the following line :
qemu.hw.mainkeys=1

Man, you made it sound as easy as click of a button. I don't understand any of these languages. I only do them if there are instructions, otherwise, forget about it.
Anyway, a free app called UDN lite does the job for me. Then, installed Pie Control and everything is working great.
Conclusion, still want to modify nav bar like in the pic attached above
Thanks for your suggestion BTW!
Modifying build prop is easy to do and a lot cleaner than getting an app to do it. Lmt launcher is a good app for pie controls with a good amount of customization. The app is here on xda
Personally, I DO use build.prop to hide Nav bar, however - its not for the un-initiated. An app may be better. Factory reset can be a pain with build.prop hidden navbar
We have that feature on a nexus 9 ROM called lolipopalooza. Comes in really handy. Dev is craigcgomez. Really smooth ROM too.
This would be a great mod to have anyone heard of any progress?
@bassil2022 check out this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2996168 I made a request with the dev and I think he may try and put this in his work. He does some awesome work with this modpack he created. It works flawlessly!
I have my navbar hidden by editing build.prop and use Pie https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jun.ace.piecontrol&hl=en
Of course I have it set to a soothing transparent black and not that ugly green. I love it. Easy one hand navigation with just your thumb.

When hitting the spacebar on the keyboard I used to accidentally activate it (I have it only enabled on the bottom edge). But I lowered the activation area dpi and it works well for me now. It's definitely not on par with GravityBox's Pie Control, but until the xposed framework is updated for Lollipop, it works for me.

Marshmallow users, what are you running in place of app circle bar?

Hi guys, I've been running DU as my main ROM for quite some time now, but I'm itching to move to Marshmallow. I've been playing with it a bit today and I'm really enjoying it.
One thing I've noticed though is that none of the ROMs currently available have app circle bar yet, which I rely upon a lot.
Do any circle bar users that have moved to marshmallow have any recommendations for an alternative?
nope, i dont need it.

I never really toyed with the app circle option in ROMs, so I don't remember all it did. But maybe LMT launcher can cover it?
