Very bad camera - some fix? - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Is there some app or something else for fixing photo qualitty?
I tried pexo cam, cyberian cam...
I tried also another photo app...
I know, than camera sucks but some users have got good results (without photoshop etc...) - hardware is good so that is software problem
I've got z3c slimm 3.6 (.291 marchmallow) with xposed
Thank you

Did you open bootloader? If you have open bootlader is normal because you lost DRM, you could use a kernel o rom with DRM fix.

No, i didnt

If the phone was brand new you should ask to sony for warranty because is not normal mine take great photos with sony camera and I use camera fx as well with great performance, have you check that bootloader is not open, did you?

It was new one, never be unlocked

Have you tried with camera fx? Do you still have warranty? You should ask for it to Sony I have one z3c, and some friends had one and the camera work fine with a good quality. You can read and see others users on internet and camera is ok.

This phone's camera lens are bad, sony fixes it with its software, drm. If you unlock your bootloader, drm will be gone and you will see the real quality of your lens.

[Q] Snapchat camera is grainy? Yet Z1 camera is fantastic?

Hi,
The camera on the Xperia Z1 is fantastic, in low light its removes grain and pictures look quite nice!!!
In snapchat the front facing camera is ridiculously grainy!
The facebook Slingshot app (snapchat copy) it seems to be using the software of the sony camera?
Has anyone made a modification or an alternative app or fix to this? I remember there was the Holo version of snapchat someone made?
Thanks,
Marcel

I've personally never used Slingshot, but if it looks like it's using the Sony camera app, the Slingshot application asks Android for all the camera applications that are installed so you can take a photo with them.
Now, most camera applications don't just take photo's and give them to you, but they do some processing with the photo afterwards (Sony's superior auto does this for example) which can give you much less noise in photo's and such.
Since Snapchat uses it's own build-in camera application, it doesn't benefit from the processing the Sony camera application does when taking a photo, thus giving a different result; which in this case ends up in a more noisy picture.
A way to circumvent this is by taking your photo using the Sony camera application and then sharing this photo with Snapchat, which then allows you to send the picture without all the noise to said contacts. Also note that Snapchat does some heavy compression on photo's that it sends.

No. Only the Sony camera can take advantage of Sony's post-processing.

[Q] Can I assign a different camera app to the physical camera button?

As the title states, I'm wondering if I can assign the Google camera app to the physical camera button on my Xperia Z3C.
I find the stock camera app is very poor at keeping focus and takes sub-par images when compared to other camera apps available on Google Play.
Also, anyone have any tips for taking better pictures with the Z3C? I'm finding that despite the camera's high number of pixels, it's not the best for taking pictures, even when compared to my old iPhone 4!
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
AS far as I know, it is possible only when you are rooted. Since rooting (with unlocking bootloader) affects the camera quality, which you want to change, i'd go for it.
I am using Camera FV-5 for taking pictures and that is much better than the auto/manual mode on the stock camera and Lapse-it Pro for Timelapse videos.
Anyway, the biggest improvement should be seen, when Android 5.0+ is released with RAW DNG (and Long Exposure), and then we will see the advantage of a 20MP sensor - but probably only with a different camera app than the stock one

Footej 12Mp Camera vs Stock 16Mp Camera

Hello friends from XDA, i bought a LeEco Le S3 x522 version and im currently waiting for it, but reading the custom rom section, i noticed the fact that you cannot record on 4K or take photos greater than 12Mp with any Nougat custom rom, to sum up, i want that you post some photos taken using the Footej camera app on 12Mp and the same photo but using the stock camera at 16Mp, im specially interested on close-ups or macro photography, and based on that i will decide neither to stick to EUI or change to Nougat.
I dont mind to lose some pixels(at least until a fix appears) if i can focus properly, even if its only at 12Mp
Thanks in advance for helping and i hope to see your photos and also i will upload my own once it arrives!
I will be receiving the phone this monday, will share some pictures, im so glad with the support to my thread.

If you want to stay on a google security level from before a thousand years, please use eui... and have a little better stock cam concerning low light pictures.
If you want custom and good camera options, choose Los13. Open Camera is best if you care about settings and footej is best for out of the box use. I don' t like stock snapdragon there. If I zoom into pictures they seem to be not so sharp.
If you like half the cores of your cpu going to sleep all the time if you are unrooted you can choose any nougat rom and use footej camera which makes very good pictures also without 4k, which is the ONLY stable camera app there. Users and developers here like to tell that camera is completely stable after almost every release of Los 14, but that was never true four times I tried a nougat rom (last time three weeks ago), maybe it was true for footej, but I need open camera at least.
People also liked small eui in the past, I didn't read the thread for while, maybe this can be s.th. for you too.
Also I would like to tell you that people here like to answer your threads if you have a real and new problem.... and not really for fun discussions or what this should be, so don't bother
Unfortunately if you want stable you will need to use stock EUI. The camera has been screwed up on Lineage based roms forever and there is no real fix for this yet.

Can you actually record 4k video 100% of the time? Do your camera apps launch perfectly everytime and the flashlight works no problem? I've tried so many combinations of kernels and roms I give up on lineage. The camera issue and half the cores not working are not worth the headache.

Front Camera Video P20 Overexposed / Soft

Hi
Will Huawei fix the overexposed soft image quality of the selfie camera on this phone.
I am still on 8.1.0.103 and wondering if its been fixed in one of the newer updates as it is really disappointing
Not sure they think it's broken, it was obviously designed to do this on purpose. I know a lot of people that use beauty mode. It is rather annoying though as it can't be disabled for those that don't want to be enhanced to Ken doll like proportions lol
If you hit the photo mode rather than the default portrait mode for front camera it does help a bit. Definitely better than portrait mode. I do hope that a future update will add more control over the processing, but I won't bank on it.
I've tried many different camera apps, and the overexposure and softening occur as soon as the camera detects a face. Haven't been able to find a solution yet.

im 99% sure it can be disabled with root - its got to be a setting that detects faces.
we;d need someone to go through the source (if they ever release it)
once i root my p20 ill stalk around to try and find a property.
Sorry, i dont have phone yet. But, if you use some other camera application, will it be the same problem?
Its definitely a setting built into the kernel/source code because using another camera app will not override the setting. It only focuses on the subject (face) and blurs out the background which should not be the case
I have rooted P20 pro, and there is a ton of properties and definitions xml files for different modes and effects in odm/camera folder. For example there is something called "casiobeauty" among others But, to mess with those parameters someone has to have knowledge. So, i guess effects can be modified, if there ever will be someone of knowledge and will to do it
You all may want to install CameraMX from PlayStore.
It gives out high resolution and high qualoty images. Selfies taken by it are noticeably sharper than the p20 pro stock camera. Also, there is a slider to adjust exposure for the front cam (something that is missing from the stock). In addition, the app also supports HDR for the selfie cam as well.
You can give it a try...

You all might want to use the CameraMX app... I use it on all my selfies now. Ive compared it with the stock front cam and it's way way way better. See for yourself...

Uploaded the wrong photos the last time sorry..
For the photos below, the washed out one is taken with the front camera native app. The better one is with cameraMX app.
Note: No editing done, same lighting condition, almost the same hand position, same angle.
It is very evident that the native camera app is washed out/overexposed.
Well, the CameraMX photo isnt perfect but for me, it is 80% better than the stock camera.

Hi - Is everyone certain this is a SW issue? I don't know a ton about cameras but is it possible there are defective front facing cameras on a bunch of these devices?

Hi, I'm pretty much sure it's a software issue as the original photo can look so much better when you edit it. And, you can also use other camera apps
There is a workaround on the overexposed p20 front camera images using the Google Photos Editor App
(I've read it from another XDA thread).
The results are stunning! It's almost as if the photos were taken using an actual Google Pixel front camera! (In my opinion)
I suppose the image enhancement algorithm for the Google Photos app is similar to the image post-processing of Google Pixel phones.
Note: Google Photos is commonly preinstalled along with Gmail, Hangouts, GMaps.
Step 1 - Snap a selfie using the native app
Step 2 - Preview the photo and click the (...) at the bottom right
Step 3 - Click Advanced Edit ---> Select Google Photos
Step 4 - Select the second icon next to the filters menu.
You will find 3 sliders (Light, Color, and Pop)
Step 5 - Slide Pop all the way up, as well as Color.
You may tweak the settings more for Color and Light too!
(There are more options when you expand it)
Step 6 - Click Save.
Find sample photos below:
Just got a P20 Pro and this is seriously my biggest hate with this phone! The rest is great (except my google pay not working) but the front camera makes me look like a ghost on any image!
I'm on update 128 and the front camera still overexposed.

Question ANX camera makes more noisy photos than MIUI camera

Hey guys, when I'm using ANX camera the photos are getting way more noisy than on stock MIUI camera. I'm using Arrow OS. I posted 2 photos for comparison.
The noise is more visible in the corners. I have installed:
- ANXCameraUnity_185R.SaltyIntelligentPlainsqueaker
-RN10P ADD ON
- 48 MP fix.
Anyone got any ideas how to get better results with ANX camera?
nop.
Xiomi did the firmware for his sensor, the anx is a port. Obviously u will get better photos on stock miui.
Oh, I see. I thought that they extracted that firmware completely. Well then that's a bummer.
Hi Adrian,
there is in fact one more file to install for a proper work of ANX Camera and you can find it attached here. I found this file on accident while browsing the Telegram channel "Redmi Note 10 Pro/Max Photography". I hope its installation will make the difference you / I hope.
You can also install (from Google Play) ANXCamera pro which gives access to a lot of other functions even if not all of them work with ANX for Redmi Note 10 Pro. I, for example, use this app only to activate the Dual Video mode which is not available in ANXCamera port but is available in the stock camera.
oh, Thanks a bunch. I gonna install and test it.
Don't use the 48MP fix
I tried both installing libcameraservice service and uninstalling 48 MP fix and the quality is still more inferior than on stock MIUI camera or Gcam.
Thanks for all the suggestions though!

Was feel that too, on custom ROMs with ANX on it.
But since ANX is kind of universal/port, we can't rely on it more deeper, we need an actual "device specific" port but not really sure if it's possible or not.
Try with any GCam out there which fits your need or else turn back to MIUI.
New Update for ANXCamera! Maybe there are improvements!

more stable , but quality still same.
Thanks, I bought the phone mainly for the camera, but I hate MIUI so I'm running PE with both ANX and GCam. GCam seems better, have you tried it?
Would be awesome if you can add a comparison for all 3!
I have similar observations with the newest ANX camera update. There are no longer any crashes after install, although sadly quality hasn't changed a bit.
Right now I'm on custom rom so I can't make such comparison.
