[Automate] Alarms on speakers with headphones plugged in - with SoundAbout - Tasker Tips & Tricks

Hi everyone,
I recently installed a new Marshmallow-based ROM, replacing a Lollipop-based one, and for some reason, alarms would now play through headphones if some are plugged in instead of forcing sound to speakers. Which can be annoying if you are used to falling asleep listening to music through headphones: those earplugs make it a nasty habit to fall off overnight...
So, I did some research and stumbled upon this post by @pzayx: How to get alarms/notifications in speaker if headphones plugged in.
I did something quite similar using the app Automate instead of Tasker. Automate has the particularity to use flowcharts for automating tasks.
You can find it here: Automate for Android - Alarm on speaker with headphones plugged in
Basically, this "flow" allows morning alarms to be played on speaker when headphones are plugged in.
This is done with the app SoundAbout, which allows rerouting audio flows.
At 6:30 AM (check wake time and time zone!):
1. Starts SoundAbout if headphones are plugged, so that media audio is rerouted to speaker
2. Kills SoundAbout (and its services) when headphones get unplugged, so that audio routing gets back to normal
Pre-requisites:
- Phone must be ROOTED (for Automate to be able to kill background apps and services)
- Install the SoundAbout app
- DO NOT grant notification access to the SA Notification Listener service, as it prevents the app and its services to be properly killed
- IMPORTANT: in SoundAbout, under "Media audio", check "Speaker"
So far so good, my alarms went off on speakers every morning ^^
Feel free to give it a feedback!
PS: I hope this post isn't off-topic, as it uses Automate instead of Tasker. But, eh, it's automation too

[Q] Headphone and Bluetooth Audio Weirdness

I'm wondering if anyone else is having strange behavior either with Bluetooth audio or headphones. The phone is AT&T stock rooted 1.26.502.10 with unlocked bootloader and CWM. Here's a brief summary of what I am seeing:
When listening to audio books using headphone (Audio Book Player app) when I place the phone in my pocket in a locked state, it will wake up and dial the last number. It seems like there is a pocket sensor that is tripped and initiates a call. This can repeat itself several times. The dialing attempt tends to terminate itself if I don't intervene in time. I have not been able to reliably repeat the behavior in a predictable manner.
For bluetooth audio music (paired with an up-to-latest Ford Sync system) there is inconsistent behavior when using Google Play Music. Sometimes everything is fine. Sometimes on-screen (car side) audio controls will not work. Sometimes it will skip to the next song after possibly 10 seconds on the current song.
This is driving me crazy. If I don't figure it out, I'll throw on a custom ROM this weekend,
Thanks!
I have not had any of those issues so unfortunately I cant be of much help. The one problem I have had is that I have a bluetooth headset that also does media playback, which I always disable when in the car because my car does not do bluetooth and I want the audio to go out the headphone jack. Everytime I disconnect the headset it rechecks the "media" option on the headset and my audio plays from my headset and I have to go back to the bluetooth options and uncheck it. Very annoying.
Looks like it is a hardware issue. I can replicate by turning or wiggling the headphone. Problem appears to be in the headphone jack.

I have experienced the song skip as well. I can't successfully recreate it, but it always occurs when I'm on my motorcycle. At first I thought it was the headphone control being depressed, but I have eliminated that. So I think it does have to do with vibration/movement of the phone somehow.

Try putting pressure from various angles on the headphone plug as well as pressing on the case in the corner where the headphone is inserted. Much weirdness ensues in a very repeatable manner.

Hmmm...nothing happening when I do any of that.
I found that the wind across the microphone is somehow triggering the skip, for me anyways. I use the headphones that came with my One and I simply placed a piece of tape over the microphone. No more song skips.
Very strange as nothing is activating the voice control in the first place.

Notification sounds on speakerphone even when headphones plugged in

Hi I was wondering if there is a setting to prevent notification sounds from going through the speakers while earphones are plugged in.
Notifications sounds are only played through earphones if music is playing but through the speaker when no music is playing.
Thanks!

Oh yeah that is a nice feature but what is bothering me is that when music is paused or off, I still want to hear the text notification but only through my headphones. Smart Connect only seems to allow to manage connection of device events; I see that it can change sound modes and volume profiles but my minor annoyance is a little more specific. Right now, when music is paused/off I hear the text notification sound through my earphones (good) and also through the phone speaker ().
Weirdly enough, Whatsapp does what I want (headphone sound only). I've tried using the default sms app and Textra SMS and both still use the speakers in addition to headphones.
Hi
Did you find a solution/reason for this?
I have a Sony Xperia Z3 and the same thing happens to me. I have the headphones set as MH750 (which came with the phone) and I can't seem to find any other settings related to headphones and notifications on the phone.
For now setting the phone to vibrate or quiet/silence mode seems to work, or also turning the notification sound to 0. It makes a little sens for example if you are connected to Bluetooth headphones but don't wear them and your alarm clock goes off to wake you. That way you will hear it for sure.

Audio just quit working, sort of

Edited to provide additional details.
---------------------------------------
Hey guys, tonight I noticed that the audio on my (stock ROM) Nexus 6 quit working. Sort of.
Bluetooth seems to work fine. Speakers plugged into headphone jack are fine. Regular media (music, navigation, Youtube app, etc.) or regular phone call at my ear, I get no audio.
BUT IF I turn on speakerphone then I have audio. The ringer works normally, the alarm works, the countdown timer alarm works.... basically anything designed to be LOUD works.
Also, strangely, if I'm not on speakerphone then the phone mic doesn't work either, which means no dictating text messages or anything like that.
What gives? My 1 year-old did SPLASH the phone earlier while playing with it near the dog dish, but I thought these things were splashproof. (?) Also, if I killed the mic hardware then I would think it'd be dead all the time, and not work on speakerphone.
Repeated reboots have not helped. The problem persists in safe mode. Did he somehow kill a speaker-mic combo? If so, which part do I need? (I've had this thing open twice before, it's not too bad.)
Thanks!

Heads up to Bluetooth audio volume decrease after first few seconds of song

Found a solution to something that was driving me crazy so I thought it may be helpful to share.
If you use bluetooth headphones/speakers like me and a song starts loud and clear but volume decreases after first few seconds you need to reattach the dongle with regular wired earphones and turn the "Enable Audio Tuner" option off.
When I first got the phone I tried regular earphones with the dongle and played around with the equalizer under "Audio Tuner". But I left that option ON before I took the earphones off. When you use bluetooth that option is greyed out so you cannot toggle. After trying a bunch of earphones and reading articles and trying to find hidden audio settings thinking "audio normalization" may be the culprit, I saw that even though greyed out, the slider was left on ON and I couldnt turn it on because I was on bluetooth.
So if it saves you several hours I'm happy to serve. Just keep it OFF if you are using bluetooth... :good:

You know what's odd, tho (coming from a mate 10 pro where that type of setting was COMPLETELY off limits if not wired): i could use it whether wired or wirelessly, but little did i know Ms. Update would along come and with her the fun gone.
It is now (9.0.11) possible to toggle the Audio Tuner while on bluetooth, however i made a suggestion to take out dynamic normalization (the thing that is lowering the volume when the song gets loud) from the Audio Tuner and make it toggleable separately.
You can like this thread so it maybe will be spotted by OnePlus team.

AA Waze, Spotify issue

Hey, hopefully I can get some help.
So basically when I have my phone plugged into my car and Android auto is running and I have some music playing thru Spotify, then go-to Waze and select for directions. The audio in Spotify cuts in and out like it's dimming for directions even though I have sound off on Waze.
As soon as I stop directions on the Waze, Spotify is fine and doesn't dim. Its really annoying and I can't seem to work it out.
Thanks in advance
I experience what sounds like a similar problem, with Waze and MediaMonkey. If both are running and Waze sounds a notification (even a speedometer alert sound), MediaMonkey's sound is reduced. But, after Waze's notification sound ends, MediaMonkey doesn't return to its prior volume. I must pause and then restart the music, after which it resumes with the correct volume level. Very bothersome.
