Finally, I succeeded at installing closed framework on my customized stock Samsung ROM (meaning, stock without bloatware). Thanks to the Wanam guys, BTW, whom, unlike the actual xposed programmers, cared about making a flashable zip that actually works for us, Samsung users.
So I am finally able to try having push notifications still working, even if greenify is active, and other cool stuff. Even, yes, the Google Assistant.
The problem is: it keeps going back to the "get started" screen every time I say "OK Google", forcing the voice model retraining. This is annoying. Is there a fix?
It's a known issue, it happens on most devices (except some lucky users). I'm sure a fix is on his way

Just reporting: the newest Google App update (6.8) fixed the issue.

I was just wondering if anyone else is having the same issue as I am with weatherbug. It seems as if it no longer is updating and the specified intervals and you have to go in the app and manually refresh it. Anyone else having this issue and if you are have you found any solution to it?
Same problem, no response from developers...
Sad situation, nothing we can do but complain.
Mind started randomly doing this after the last update too.
Most of the time it works properly, but some times I will check it and it hasn't updated for a day. It's weird because the thing used to be flawless.
I was also having this issue randomly not updating I unistalled it
Were you guys trying both accuweather and google? I know google isn't as reliable as accuweather with this app.

Its not the weather, its The app that is not updating. The support contacted me and told me to check if any task killers are killing the app and if that doesn't work to reinstall. Well I don't use a task killer and reinstalation doesn't work. I've also noticed that if the phone is asleep for a long time with no network activity it doesn't update but if your using the phone it does update on its own

Gotcha. I don't see a lapse in refresh on my end. And I flash ROMs every week or so heh...

Could be gingy. I know that for example the Sony Ericsson LiveView cannot connect via BT to it as of now, so it would not surprise me. Have you notified the dev if their app is indeed gingerbread compatible?
I recall that when Froyo went live or ROM flashable for me, lol...Weatherbug had similar issues until they updated the apk.

Make sure you didn't move the WeatherBug app to SD Card (via Froyo method, a2ext should be fine) because that will kill the service quickly.

All,
Here is a copy of the Samsung Apps APK that I have modified to remove the touchwiz requirement. Just download and install. This should provide the Samsung App store to custom roms/GPE edition roms on your devices.
YMMV, but this works perfectly on my device.

Just to be clear, will this fix the notification problems ( such as notifications for hangouts, text messaging, gmail, etc.) that are found in non TouchWiz roms? Thanks and happy new year!

What exactly was done ? Was the framework removed from the android-manifest file ?
I've installed it on nexus5, but it says country/device not supported. Does buildprop edit make a difference?

Yes. I removed the tw framework from the manifest for this apk, rebuilt and resigned using a development key.
It's not that simple for the rest of the gear stuff, unfortunately. :/

Since I don't have such a device to test on, you might give it a shot after making a backup of your current build.prop file.

Hey! I had this same exact problem. It happened when I installed Wanam on knoxraid v4.5. I didnt even choose to have the symbols removed, it just happened forcefully when I first ran Wanam. The problem is in the feature.xml file in system/csc. Wanam edited it to remove the secondary symbols. I tried reverting it by crawling through the code but it never worked. I had to re-flash the ROM. :/
I prefer Gravity Box now. It seems to be more stable and works just fine with KitKat.
I had the same problem. Go to Xposed installer, and download "Samsung Keyboard Alt Symbols". That should bring them back.

This WORKED!
In addition to Thanks, let me emphatically state HOW MUCH I LOVE A THREAD WHICH ENDS WITH A SOLUTION!
(as opposed to most threads that do not, or an OP, after finding a solution elsewhere, doesn't bother to return to the thread they started and post the solution, work around or whatever they may have found)
Kudos!
EDIT: It occurs to me that my post now makes this thread NO LONGER end in a solution! Well, I quoted the solution so it's still there in the new final post. I just wanted to point that out before any wise guys tried pointing it out for me :snicker!:
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for this thread!
This was driving me crazy and I hadn't noticed at which point they disappeared since I did several things with my tablet today. When Shooter mentioned wanam, I knew that's one of the things I installed today too so yup, that was obviously the culprit here too.
Did you notice that a lot of the Wanam tweaks that work on JB 4.3 no longer work properly on KK 4.4... looks like this is just another to add to the list. Perhaps we should go mention it in that module's xda thread...
Anyhoo, thanks again to @shooter445 for asking, and @ZOMBIExM4STER for the very helpful answer! I'm on a Samsung Note tablet but this thread came up in a search and it was still applicable to me.
Looks like the latest Google Search update is testing always listening (lock screen, apps) for OK Google Hotword detection. Only for "certain accounts" at the moment though.
with Search 3.5 installed, certain Google accounts are now able to use “OK Google” Hotword detection in any screen, including the lock screen and third-party apps. Unfortunately, this feature is only available on a few accounts at the moment, but hopefully the rollout continues quickly.

I guess your account isn't one of the few.
Do you guys think it is just random accounts, or would these account holders know ahead of time that they have these special permissions? I'm assuming it's for accounts which signed up for some beta testing.
You are right. It might be for early beta testers.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
Started working for me as soon as I installed the apk. Haven't done anything special as such to get it. You can get the hotword detection working from settings. Basically, it works exactly like a moto x except it doesn't work when the phone is both not being charged and also the screen is off. Waiting for custom hotwords now, "OK Google" seems kinda lame.
I read that it's being released in waves to different users and you also have to be on the latest Google play services 5.* But it is being rolled out in a back end search update in waves, few reports of users already having it.

I guess my account is part of "the few"??? I went to Google Settings -> Voice -> "OK Google" Detection and saw a few extra options including detect anywhere. Ticked those options and worked great even on Nova Launcher with Nova's native OK Google feature DISABLED.
I was watching an Android wear video on YouTube on my phone and with this turned on when the person in the video said "OK google" my phone heard it and tried to search.

Haha it's the "XBOX ON" issue all over again. I think maybe it should stop listening when the speaker is outputting sound since they're right next to each other.

I've tried everything. Ever since Google play services updated along with the AA app the app closes, and when I plug it in to my head unit I get a notification saying Google play services has stopped.
