***** Updated May 5, 2011 *****
Uploaded a new version to the same location. Here are the changes:
- Improved the scrolling position after adding more titles to the bottom, but still not perfect
- Fix bug leaving the Netflix registration window open
- Set maximum title list retrieval to 50 at a time
- Fixed bug with extra Edit Search Criteria icon showing in apps list
- Fixed size and look of loading images
- Added ability to turn off ads by buying an unlocker from the Android market
Netflix still hasn't fixed their problems with TV series and getting the data right in their API
***************************
Hi all. I've been working on a new Honeycomb only app called What To Watch, and I'm looking for some beta testers. Anyone interested in helping out?
I wanted a better way to browse for Netflix movies and also manage my queues. For example, I wanted to do something like "show me all Sci Fi movies available on Instant with a 3 star rating or higher, rated PG-13 or R, sorted by release date". I couldn't find any other web site or app to do this, so I figured I would build it myself.
There are 3 main sections:
1) My Searches - this is where you can create your own searches and save them for later. I create two to start with. Click on one and it will display the list in the panel on the right, 25 at a time. Once you click on one of the My Seaches items, you can edit it by long pressing it or clicking the Edit button at the top. Note that this uses a beta API from Netflix called OData. It's the only API that lets you do sophisticated searches like this, but unfortunately it is subject to change from Netflix and it may not always be current with the main Netflix library.
2) Netflix Queues - what you would expect. For example, what is in your DVD and Instant queues.
3) Top Lists - this comes from the Netflix web site rather than the API. It shows what the top titles are for each category. This method won't show the star ratings until you drill into a particular title.
You can download the apk here (note this is case sensitive):
http://jigawattlabs.com/temp/WhatToWatch.apk
Known issues:
This is the first release. Should probably call it an Alpha!
Authenticating with Netflix isn't quite right yet. You may wind up with the web browser still open after exiting the app, and you may get another instance of the app. But just exit everything and it should be ok
There is a bug with the Netflix API with TV series and specials. This is a problem on their end, so you might get some unexpected results when browsing TV shows
I would appreciate any and all comments in terms of general UI impressions, bugs, performance, usability.
You can reach me directly at [email protected].
Thanks!

I just tried it out, seems to work great. I just wish there was a way to actually watch Netflix on my zoom
Thanks for trying it out. I'd love to be able to watch netflix movies as well, and I think we will see that at some point. Hopefully once Netflix makes that possible, I can integrate that into the app.
I'm also going to implement a friends feature, where you can mark your favorite movies and share it with friends, and see what their favorites are.
Comments from other folks are welcome!
My first impression of the app is that it has some shared elements with amazon's web page, which is great. But the reason I say first impression is that it isn't registering with netflix.
Sent from my Xoom the way it should be, rooted and with SD card.
chbennett - thanks for testing. Can you give me some more info on the problem you had registering? When clicking almost anything it should prompt you to register. If you say ok, it should take you to a Netflix web page. You may have to log in and then it should prompt you to give permission to the What To Watch application. If you approve,it should take you back to the app and you should be able to run any of the searches on the left.
Where did you run into problems?
I installed it on my XOOM. Log in into Netflix without any problems. Searching also good, but could be good to add additional information about movie like Availability (for some of it shows when it will be available in stream).
It's a pity that we still missing Hulu or Netflix apps on our XOOM. Get used to watch it on my iPad(

Basically all it did for me (ill try it again) was stall out on the "registering with netflix" in app pop up, going no further.
Edit: still doesn't work

Great app! Forcecloses when I click on New Instant Choices under Top Lists category
Also when going into the Instant Que list; I click one of the movies and it takes me to the description. I can also click on Similar, Drop from Instant or Add to Disc. If I choose Drop from Instant and click the back arrow it still shows in the Instant Que listing. Can we have the option of clicking the Instant Que button on the top left corner in the movie description to go back to the Instant Que listing and if we do happen to press the back arrow could the Instant Que listing automatically update with the removal of the movie?
Kozdoba - I will be adding additional information like directors and awards, but I'll also look at adding availability. Do you have an example title in mind I can test with?
bishop72 - thanks for finding the problem with the New Instant choices. I'll look at that one, but it may be because that's a really big list and I'm not handling it correctly. Also, good idea about removing titles from the instant titles if you click the remove from instant button. But the problem with that for me is if I remove it from the list, it should probably close that title window because it's no longer in the instant queue. Maybe someone hit the remove button by mistake and they want to re-add it?
Also I notice that there is some type of caching going on with the adding and removing from queues. When you add or remove, it does that action and then sends another request to netflix to get the current status. But it may not register that quickly. So you may hit remove from instant, and then I get back a status from Netflix saying it's still in the instant queue. If you click it again, it shows up ok.
I appreciate the feedback - good or bad!

downloaded the apk to nook but just got a parse error failed to load. I really love my netflix and was looking forward to tablet style look on nc.
The app installed fine, the Netflix login auth worked fine as well. The fit & finish look good as well. Some of the images and searches render a bit slow, but that could be my wifi. I will play with it more through the day and report back.
I believe i heard that Netflix was going to do a live stream with Netflix only productions, so a Top List of Netflix Original or something would be good.
Everyone - thanks for testing and for the comments. I really appreciate it! It's interesting it worked for some but didn't work for dbolton. Not sure why that is.
dbolton - can you post a screen shot of your error, or email it to me at [email protected]? I also took a few screen shots so you can see what it should look like:
http://jigawattlabs.com/w2w/screen1.png
http://jigawattlabs.com/w2w/screen2.png
kiteOregon - once Netflix posts a list of their own content in some type of list, I'll definitely look at adding that. For the Top Lists section, I'm just using the Netflix RSS feeds linked from the bottom of the page. Modified it somewhat to return no more that 50 at a time though since it would load too slow.
Thanks again!
-Gregg
Thus far all is working well. I really like the interface too, great job!
I am going to keep tinkering with it and let you know if I run into any issues or have any suggestions.
Thanks for the great app!

I heard that Netflix was having problems with authorization from 3rd party apps. As a work around the suggest launching your browser and log into Netflix. Leave the browser running, and then launch the app and try to register again. Can you let me know if that works?

Thanks! Working to add more features.
somehow I now have a 'edit search criteria' icon (same as main apps icon) in my app drawer as if it were a separate app.
My initial reaction is very positive, but I have the same issue as garyh2. When I tell it to uninstall, I am informed that it is part of the main application so obviously I left it there. This is a weird bug though...
The only other thing I noticed is that the placeholder icons that appear before titles and images populate are slightly larger than the images and titles that replace them. This doesn't really cause problems but is slightly distracting.
I really like the power search function and the ability to save searches and haven't really seen this functionality elsewhere. Good job!
Thanks garyh2 and vidriera - ill take a look at that. The edit screen is a separate activity rather than a fragment, which is probably its somehow getting its own icon. Just one of the differences with honeycomb I need to figure out.
Also good point about the loading graphic. I'll fix that too.
Hello!
I'm afraid my phone might have malware. Hopefully it's a false alarm but I would appreciate any insight into the behavior:
Yesterday I saw a notification with the EMUI icon (stylized red "UI") but when bringing up the notification panel all I saw was a green "down" arrow and no text. I've had apps with bugs creating broken notifications before so I tapped it to check. It sent me to a webpage flagged as a source of malware "d1.3gmimo.com/handpet/wallpaper/...<can't remember rest>". I closed the page and since Chrome showed the warning before loading the page I think it's safe to assume I didn't download anything.
I don't know the origin of the notification though so I'm afraid there might be some malware already present. It had the EMUI icon but that can be faked or may be the default when no icon is configured (not sure how it works).. The notification appeared over mobile data so no router redirect infection. Searches gave me only one hit I could make sense of - a forum thread with the poster describing a similar event. They got not explanation but see here for their screenshots: Google Translate on thread-5858387-1-1.html on club.huawei.com (can't post links yet it seems)
I am very careful with the apps I install, avoid all the copycat crap, and I only allow Google Play as a source. The phone was only ever used by me except briefly by a family member which I trust not to download anything sketchy. Still, I uninstalled the most recent 2 apps: Hashi and Nonogram Katana (has ads) , though these had been installed a week before. The list of installed apps shows nothing new/strange. I also installed AVL, Bitdefender, and Avast but they found nothing. (I know it's debated whether av/anti-malware apps are helpful but thought to cover everything.)
Any thoughts?
Thank you in advance!
Phone details:
Huawei P7-L10
Android 4.4.2
EMUI 2.3 (V100R001C02B129)
Branded by Vodafone and with their uninstallable apps - using it on different network though.
I know I should update but the update app doesn't find anything (I understand this may be due to modifications made by telecom companies) and I got lazy since I've had no compatibility issues. I guess I should think more about security.
After doing more digging and learning to use adb to look at the logcat, I think the notification might have been created by VLife, which is Huawei's wallpaper distribution service.
On my phone I have VLife 2.23.3 installed (seems to be stock) as a system app. The title is in Chinese but the icon is the EMUI logo. (I figured out which app it is by the icon and version number, after I found the app hosted on aptoide.com while googling for "vlife".)
I presume what happened is that VLife tried to download a new wallpaper (no idea why all of a sudden) and it went to 3gmimo.com, which might serve as a mirror for apps. The site is flagged as having malware. This might be a false alarm or the site might have been hijacked since my version of VLife came out.
So the app might be ok. Though I'm still worried why the sudden update. Maybe there's a central message that was sent to the app to update? (The logcat below mentions a receiver.) The only suspicious thing about the app otherwise is that it has the permission to record sound along with changing sound settings. The latter isn't so surprising since it provides multimedia wallpapers. Maybe recording comes with the rest of the sound permissions. I've disabled the app and disabled its notifications for now. It can't be uninstalled since it's a system app.
These lines come up quite often in my logcat:
I/am_proc_start( 604): [0,18761,10089,com.vlife.huawei.wallpaper:main,broadcast,com.vlife.huawei.wallpaper/com.vlife.receiver.PetMainReceiver] - the link I got referred to a "handpet"
I/am_proc_start( 604): [0,18907,10089,com.vlife.huawei.wallpaper:main,broadcast,com.vlife.huawei.wallpaper/com.vlife.receiver.InstallEventReceiver]
Does anybody know more about this app or service?
Thanks!

What you see above is a "Control Panel" for my own Galaxy S7 Edge. I host this on my own website.
This means it can be seen and accessed from anywhere in the world, on any browser and/or device.
For privacy and security, I will implement a login system in the near future.
It has a couple of neat features, but since they are written in Dutch I will translate them to English:
Information:
Check battery level/percentage and check if your phone is being charged or not
Warns the user from the control panel if the battery is low.
Warns the user from the control panel to pull out the plug out of charging when it is fully charged
Check if your phone is in a light or dark place. I have optimized the light sensor as best as I could, The results are pretty accurate
Clipboard of your current copied content on your phone
Shows the phone model and the date and time of the last update sent from your phone
Check if Bluetooth is enabled or not
Check if Wifi is enabled or not
Show the current WiFi name, Wifi Speed, Wifi Channel & Wifi Signal Strength
Show the current Data Carrier / Mobile Signal strength (Weak, Normal, Strong)
Shows the current Call Volume percentage
Shows the current Media Volume percentage
Check if the screen of the phone is turned on or off
Check if GPS is enabled or not ( There is also a Live Google Maps on the right side, showing where the phone is right now )
Checks if the phone in call / calling / or getting called. ( in other words, it shows the user is busy with a phone conversation )
Checks if the user is browsing on the internet on the phone or not. ( It will check if a browser is open, needs more adjustments for more accurate readings )
I am surprised at the speed of the operations.
It takes a total of 3 to 4 seconds after clicking on "take a picture" button to take a picture from the front-camera and Upload it to my google drive.
It also removes the picture from my phone after it has been uploaded. WIth combination of SMS control this can be a great anti-theft option.
The "Record Audio" function works great too. after clicking on it on the control panel, it starts recording audio, waits 10 seconds ( records for 10 seconds ), stops recording audio and then uploads it to a special folder in my Google Drive.
The "Send SMS" function is very fast. after clicking on it, it will take about 1.5 seconds to send the SMS from your phone.
For now, the number to send the SMS to is hardcoded, but I will make it a variable so that it will be possible to type in the number on your web control panel and send the SMS to the number from your browser.
The "LOCK your phone" function immediately lock your phone remotely, even when your screen is turned off. You can unlock it with the code that has been set up in the Tasker Event.
Clicking on the Wifi, Bluetooth & GPS icon will toggle them( on / off )
Clicking on the Phone (screen) Icon, Will toggle the phone screen ( turns it on and off )
Clicking on the Clipboard icon will copy all the content to your own clipboard.
Not only the text but the icons also change dynamically.
Grey icons represent a false variable (turned off / dark / not in call & etc ) and the blue icons represent the true variables.
For example, in the screenshot above, Bluetooth is turned off and wifi is turned on.
When the battery gets at 15% or less, the icon will turn red and green when it's fully charged (100%) and the user will get an alert box warning with a notification sound straight from the browser about the low battery / full charge . ( Sound and notification can be turned off if you wish).
I have wrote a script with AJAX (Asynchronous JavasScript and XML) to do all of this in Real-time and without page-reloads. AJAX refreshes the page information every second (or whatever the user wants) without reloading the page.
The controls in this control panel are in many cases and in my experience a lot faster than Android Device Manager or other apps like Cerberus and Airdroid.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- On Tasker, I have used Taskers own variables but also created my own variables to be created/changed on certain triggers.
For example, when the lx level ( light sensor ) gets low, it will set a variable to "false" as boolean, meaning there is not enough light == it is dark.
- Next I use this variable in my HTTP POST Request URL to a very simple PHP script on my website I wrote..
The HTTP POST Request URL will post to my PHP Script.
My PHP script grabs the URL, strips certain parts of it, turns it into PHP variables and then sends it to my MySQL database ( all on my own hosting).
- I again use the wonderful Tasker to do all of this this every 2 seconds.
You can get (almost) real-time information about your phone if it's set to be updated every 1 second.
This will not be very heavy on the database so it's possible.
- I then made another webpage containing another simple PHP script that grabs all the variables ( those we saved in previous steps) from my Database and echo's (shows) it on the screen.
This is the very same page you see on the screenshot, This is the Control Panel.
In the last step, all we have to do is visit the webpage on my website.
It will show the control panel as seen in the screenshot. You will also be able to control your phone from here.
I am making a simple login function where users can login.
this means a single database can hold more than 1 user if you wish to.
This will also protect others to see/control your phone from the web as they will need login credentials.
My script will then grab the corresponding variables of your phone when you login, using your ID and checking it on my database.
I know this may sound complicated for a lot of you who think that this is too much work, but I am planning to finish this and make it a some kind of a Open-Source thing available to every android and (rooted) tasker user.
All you need is:
- My Tasker project files ( all you need to do is import it to your own Android )
- Your own webhosting with MySQL database and PHP.
There are TONS of FREE online webhosting that will offer exact this. I'd love to post all the links here, but i'm not sure if it will be seen as advertising, so let me know.
- My PHP script(s), all you need to is simply upload it to your own website.
- My MySQL database configuration file - After importing this single file, the whole database will be created automatically on your website. ( using MySQL on your hosting )
After that, and when my Login function is complete, you could create an account for your self and/or others where they can login from anywhere in the world, on any browser or device and check their phone status and control their phone in Real-Time.

Even Open Source? That rocks.
XDA's Tasker subforum isn't that popular. You might wanna post your project on reddit too, where the Tasker community is way bigger and more popular:
https://www.reddit.com/r/tasker/. Let us know if you'll post it there too.
I'm looking forward for this project. Personally, I don't think I would use this as I don't think I really need it (although it doesn't hurt to have an anti-theft), but I'd like to see how it is done, if you're gonna make it Open Source.
Good luck!

Do you mean any random network traffic? in that case, a simple incoming whatsapp message could trigger the browser variable and set it to "true".
I will try reddit ... I have tried posting it in the official Tasker forums, but the my post is still awaiting moderator approval after a long time.
Since i've posted this thread, I've created new functions already like video recording (microphone audio included) the phone screen for 10 seconds and upload it to google drive.
I haven't seen this option on any other anti-theft yet. In a case of emergency, you could literally watch the thief do things on your phone and also hear him talking.
Since it's going be to open-source, it's highly customizable. You could change the icons, add new functions, remove functions , change the styling to your own wishes and improve the "web app" overall.
For those interested, Since the first post, I've added more options and starts looking good
https://youtu.be/T9aKmLTujik
For rooted users, you could make an add-on app that the user puts in the /system partition and, in case of factory reset, installs Tasker and restores it's data.
That way, the user has a chance of finding their phone even if the thief performs a factory/hard reset.
EDIT: Are your files available? I can't seem to find them.

With the new Android versions, this is not a reliable thing anymore. This is the same reason Cerberus App stopped offering a special APK that could be installed in the /system by flashing it.
Also, it would be very difficult to have an add-on app install Tasker, AutoRemote, FolderSync and other plugins it needs automatically and configure them too.
I haven't made my files available yet. I am still perfecting it and awaiting community tips and input to expand the app more before releasing the source-files.
Hello, this is my first post here, so if I miss something please let me now.
I bought Huawei P10 recently, and there is a notifications problem I identified almost instatly, but so far found no solution.
Although setting banner notifications on for all the aplications, I receive them from a handful of apps only, and in case of the others there is only the app icon in the dock.
I identified that for aplications that have automatically set nofication importance to at least high, this is level 4 of 5, (like BBC News, for instance) the banners do appear. However, every change of the importance level crashes the system. Please refer to the pic:
https://www1-lw.xda-cdn.com/files/2017/03/Screenshot_20170302-193013.png
and the text it comes from:
https://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-enable-system-ui-tuner-to-modify-the-status-bar-in-emui-4/
So, given all this, is there any possiblity to solve the crash problem? I really do miss the banner notifications.
While you're likely loving your new phone, there are a few concerns with any new device. One possible issue is the new persistent Android System notifications on the Galaxy S9.
If you're coming from an older Android phone, you probably noticed the new Android System notifications in the notification shade on your new Galaxy S9. This is a new feature with Android Oreo, helping make users aware of any background apps consuming battery or taking up system resources. Unfortunately, if these notifications pile up, they can annoy some users. If you're already aware that certain apps are displaying on top of others, you can turn off this notification easily.
Disabling the 'Displaying Over Other Apps' Notification
After swiping down the notification shade, swipe right on the the "Displaying Over Other Apps" Notification. This will reveal a Settings cog which you can tap to access the notification settings for Android System.
Tapping on the cog brings you to the detailed notification settings. From here, you will scroll down and find the setting for your particular app that is displayed over others in the list of system notifications. In this example, the app in question is NavBar Apps. Turn this notification off and you're all set!
It is worth noting that there are a number of Android System notifications that cannot be disabled, such as Wi-Fi status, Account Status and missing SIM card alerts. These offer critical user information that you should be aware of. Still, you can tap on the corresponding notification type and switch it to low priority so there are no interruptions with your work flow.
With this ugly Android System notification gone, your notification shade should look much less cluttered.
