Well that was expected. Slow ass OEMS.
They even kicked p8 out. They should at least update p8. Even Samsung is updating s6 what is their problem?

no eumiu 5.0 too for p8 and p8 lite

So sad. Never again a phone from huawei.
I hate to say but that's what you get if you don't buy a phone with SnapDragon.
Didn't expect updates on a Kirin regarding the ****ty support even on the XDA forums (no offense devs, it's Huawei's fault).
I realized I can't live without HTC, I'm going to lurk on their category before buying a HTC 10, or maybe a OnePlus 3
OK, we will not have Android 7.
I`m not dissapointed. Why? Because, this phone was released with 5.0, and we have get 6.0. Please, how many phones today is on Android 6? It`s just 18,7%!!! Lollipop have 35%, Kit-Kat have 27,7% and even a Jelly Bean have 15,6%.
And someone was dissapointed with Huawei?!?! Common, what`s with Samsung, Sony, HTC, LG... Even their premium models (flagship) who`s 2-3 years old wouldn`t get Nougat.
This phone is EXTRA for me. Why? It`s not expensive so much, quality is OK. And thanks to people like Sokkoban, XePeleato, Lordbannakaffalatta and many others we have, and we would have excellent ROM`s.
@Salacue
How many 2015 flagships are running Android 6.0 Marshmallow? All of them. How many of them will get 7.0 Nougat? All of them except Huawei P8. That's bad. Once again - huawei is the worst company in the world when it comes to updates.

Rubbish GPU is the problem. They used old crap from 2012. Samsung is actually pretty decent when it comes to updates of their flagships. They even release security patches every month.
I'm native polish speaker, so I can confirm what screenshot says in the first post - Huawei is not planning to relase 7.0 both for P8 and P8 Lite.
I don't get some of you guys - P8 Lite is a great phone, runs very smoothly, it's hardware ain't that bad and it's also quite cheap. Don't forget it's 1,5 yo smartphone and it's not a flagship device anymore (was it before?). Previously I've had LG L90 - also mid-range phone runnig from start on KitKat and it's received one big update to Lollipop, which turned out to be crappy as hell. Definetely you can't say that about update to Marshmallow on our P8 Lites. I don't know about you but I am satisfied of that phone and it's software support.

I agree since p8 lite is a mid range phone but what about p8? Isn't it flagship that deserves an update support for at least 24 months. If samsung is planning to update s6 which is as much old as p8 why Huawei isn't going to update p8. The answer is obvious either p8 has a crappy gpu or Huawei is becoming lazy.
P8 should get the Nougat Update... I'm quite sure P8 Lite won't be able to handle Nougat well... well in any case... We have Marshmallow, that's quite good too...
Yes, Huawei is quite slow with the updates process but who are we to complain?
Who we are to complain? Customers! People who spent our own money to buy Huawei's flagship device.
Crappy gpu.. mali450 doesnt support open gl es 3.1, open cl 1.2 and vulcan api.

that sentence does not make any sense.
The thing is that they promised updates for 24 months after launch, and they lied. And they also didnt release a good source code so building custom roms is way harder than it should be.
And yes, p8 lite has the proper hardware to run nougat, if the nougat rom is well optimized. My Galaxy S2 for gods sake is running nougat. So yes, we customers are on our right to complain both for not receiving the promised 24 months of updates, for not receiving a good source code which they are supposed to provide etc

I really dont think we will get many more updates than the ones we already got. And it is a lie because if you promise to update a phone for 24 months, people understand newer android versions etc... not just security patches.
We will, Vodafone released already B890 (it's strange though free-market devices didn't get it yet) for their P8. People are getting wrong meaning of the word 'update'. It can include hardware/software improvements, better battery optimization, new minor features, and many more. Not just newer OS.

Hello,
I am choosing a phone as a gift for my dad. He always like to "steal" my moms GS4 and use it for media consumption. He comes from an old school style nokia and he is ready to step into the smartphone world.
My main concern is it still worth it? Does Huawei support its device with OTA? Lolipop yet? How it performs? Any problems with it?
Price range is about 200eu for a new device. I can get it for 225eu directly from distributor, so its kinda on the cheap side for the spec.
Also I am looking at:
Ascend P7
Samsung A3
Samsung Galaxy Grand
LG Spirit
HTC Desire 510
They all fall under pretty much the same price category, but Ascend P7 is way higher then all of them.

Don't really know about the other phones, but this one is really good. I usually change phones very often since I like to tinker with them, and although this one is not as open as my previous Samsung Galaxy S3 or even my LG L90 was, I still like it. Lollipop will be coming 'till the end of summer - OTA updates are slow with Huawei - but KitKat is still good for this phone.
Of the phones you mentioned what I wouldn't try is the two Samsungs - TouchWiz will slow them down and that would make the smartphone world a cruel and cold place for your dad with lots of headaches. The LG Spirit looks good as far as specifications go, and the HTC Desire 510 also semm ok (but the LG is on Lollipop).
The main caveat of this phone is that it looks darn beautiful and the software is very user friendly. Ask your dad what he'd like to see in a new phone, and decide accordingly
I have samsung A3 as my work mobile. Its much better built quality then huawei.
A3 aluminum design for me is perfect!
You told farther is using it for media, if it's movies then you shall note the resolution of A3. It is pretty low.
User Interface of A3 actually is smoother even having in mind samsung was worst with Touchwiz and app for contacts. They did their homework and on A3 its working without issues.
And by the way, A3 lollipop is currently rolling out world wide. Waiting to get that

I had similar considerations.
I am really impressed by the design of the Huawei phones, and I really, really like yhe P8. But I am not a heavy-user, so I do not really nee the high-end phone. So, most of the times, I wait till the high-end phone of last year will become much cheaper.
Today, I bought the P7, it was a good deal from my provider, and it will cost me only €172 (after a cash-back from Huawei). I reaaly think this is good value-for-money.
I also bought a brand new P7 for €225 last month. So far I'm happy with it, but I hate that you can't run Xposed properly and that there's not Cyanogenmod for it.
Huawei also has the P8 Lite for about the same price and with similar specs, or if you can get one cheap, get a Galaxy S4 or Xperia Z1 compact.

At Orange Romania you can buy Huawei P8 Lite with 200 euros off contract. But I will never buy a huawei phone after using 2 ascend p 6 last year. I would also say that you should get S4 or Lg g2 for your dad and why not a htc one m7? I guess it all depend on price you find them. Good luck!

You have my exact thinking! There is no point in getting the latest most powerful phone when last year's models are perfectly fine. The P7 has a 1.8ghz quad core could, 2gb ram, and a 1080p screen. Also, once rooted, all software you don't need cam be removed. Samsung has a MUCH larger amount of unnecessary software installed which results in almost all the ram being used up without even doing much with the phone.
I've had my P7 for a month and a half. I am very pleased, and the only phone which would make me not buy the P7 is the P8.
It depends. It is well made, has a good screen, good camera, ... interface isn't that great though, and the performance! At least the Vodafone EMUI 2.3 version is sluggish as hell, a $80 Xiaomi Redmi 1S (Snapdragon 400) feels roughly 2-4x as fast IMHO, the only advantage the Huawei has is having 2x the RAM (which IS good).
Frankly there are better options out there that don't feel so massively underpowered.
Ok, so I decided to run Antutu on the P7-L10, and surprisingly the result was 28000, compared to roughly 21000 on the Xiaomi Redmi 1S. That's very odd, cause when browsing the internet, multitasking, starting apps, or doing pretty much everything else the performance of the P7 seems to be WAY worse than the Xiaomi. Very, very sluggish, worse than a Galaxy Nexus even. It was running B129... updated to B133 now, and will attempt B609 soon. We'll see if it is better...
P7 is a great device. I think you should get it. I have used it for 3 month and it worked like a charm
I got the p7 since 2months for 200€ brand new. I'm quite satisfied with it, although it's not a real flagship.
The p7 is worth it only if you can buy it at a decent price. It's still being sold for 300€ in Spain shops. There are better devices for that price. But with some luck you can get it for 200, and that's now a bargain. More than 200-225, would be expensive.
In my opinion: the best setup for the p7 is B616 with B609 vendor,(if you're in Europe) root and immutable.list deleted, TWRP recovery.
Yeah these devices with emui and Kirins cpus are weird as fu.ck. At least you can delete some system apps, and google apps, to reinstall them as user.
It's got an option to lower the screen resolution, but my advice is not to do that cause there's barely benefits and you are buying a 1080p device so you should enjoy that.. I got 30.000 points in antutu with 1080p res after liting the rom but those are just numbers.
You can also use some xposed modules, such as youtube background, adaway, xposed torch, greenify, etc (anything not related to esthetic) and emui themes will still work. Just gotta mark this option in xposed settings (v2.5.1)

well.. I have went for the Ascend P7. After a week of use everything works well and dad is happy. He actually like EMUI 3.0 more then GS4 touchwiz.
No matter, the P7 is also very good. It's a very special phone, the glass is excellent for a start, and the camera is very good too. Just watch for battery usage. Also, it's 4g/LTE capable.

I just purchased this phone. Seems like a great device. Too bad there is no root on it.
I chatted with customer support from ZTE asking when they are planning to release Marshmallow for the Axon.
They advised that Mid April is the time frame when they are planning to release that update.
How nice of them to tell us. I tweeted them and put something on Facebook and nothing. Next time I'll call. But at least we know.

Sweet! I just got my Axon. I got it for $160 on eBay brand new. Pretty good phone for the price I got ir for. Newegg was trying to get rid of them because the new line of Axon phones will be released soon.
Anyways, Soon after I read this post I called ZTE myself and the lady didn't want to say when they were planning on releasing it but she did tell me that they are still developing it. So at least we know we're getting the update.
Looking at all the bugs Marshmallow update has on the Pro, I wouldn't be so quick to update when it comes out on the non Pro version...
Mine is Axon with 2GB of r am, same version with you guys?
Model number is A1R
This phone is pretty good tho, except for blue color for the metal back, also 2GB of ram is not enough. I am always out of ram and app reload everytime i change.
The design make me feel like they got 2 front speakers but ... only 1 lol.
Anyway, for the price, im ok with it. Hopefully it got 6.0 soon

Just got this phone today. I thought I was getting the pro. Lol can really notice the RAM at 2g being a little bit laggy. But otherwise it's not bad. If you enable developer options and set all of your animation settings to .5 it speeds it up considerably. Tried King root. Nothing yet but the requests are coming in for it. Id say we will get root soon. I worry about the inability to battery pull tho. It's always nice when rooting and modding lol

Ordered an Axon non-Pro for my younger brother a week back, has there been any update on the Marshmallow update for it? I saw earlier this this thread that ZTE told someone it was a mid April target, but thats come and gone. My brothers new Axon has definitely not received an MM update yet. He did pull down 2(3?) smaller OTAs after I got him connected to his wifi.
Since I'm considering an Axon 7 for myself, I've started paying attention to their update release reputation. I don't care so much about custom roms any more, or root really, but I do want to know that I'm going to get at least 1 timely OS update.

Is there a Custom ROM or a how-to-ROOT for Axon with 801 cpu phone ?
Some ZTE-Axon (non-Pro, "A1R" with S801 Cpu) phones receive Android 6.0.1 OTA update
We have 2 Axon phones ([A1R] 5.5" ). One of them received the OTA Marshmallow 6.0.1 update automatically from Fido-Canada, everything went fine, great, no-problem.
The second "A1R" Axon is stuck with Android 5.1.1 ; and the OTA(6.0) is not coming through at all.
What can be done to force the Marshmallow update on that phone ?

Hi folks,
I too have been eagerly waiting for this upgrade and have read in a many forums that it was coming, with excerpts from dialogues with customer reps at various companies.
Today I spoke with a CSR at my carrier, who gave me ZTE's number to call. They then told me to use the support chat, who gave me some info saying that it has not yet been abandoned, and she would escalate my concern to the R&D team, but also suggested I post this request in here.
Caroline K: Thank you for the information. There has been talk of the Axon A1R device software update to the Android 6.0 software.
We have been getting a lot of requests from customers for the Android 6.0 software on the Axon A1R device.
From our conversation:
Caroline K: I do apologize, we do not have any estimated time frame as to when the Axon device will get the Android 6.0 software.
ME: Thanks. The alternative to upgrading the software would be to allow root access on the devices so we can install our own custom operating systems, but I have also read that ZTE is mute on those requests
Caroline K: I do understand your concerns as an end user myself. Most new applications require new software.
Yes, I do agree with you when it comes to unlocking the bootloader. ZTE does not have the option.
Me: Thanks for your understanding. As you have suggested you would escalate the issue, shall I expect a future response from the R&D team?
Caroline K: I will forward the unlock boot loader to our R&D team as well. The Axon 7 device was the only device that came close to the boot loader unlock.
So R&D team, please please please if you're reading this (as I have been told that you do: Caroline: Our forum support is run by part of the software team), please push out an update for Android Marshmallow 6.0, or unlock the boot loader to we can do our own custom ROMs.
Thanks
Hi guys  ,
This is a new discussion of the nougat update dedicated for p8 lite.
Here you can write all of emui 5.0 and news for the future update of p8 lite.
What do you think about it?
Did they announce 7.0 for p8 lite?
Does anyone really think that we will receive the update? Huawei is no longer profiting from this phone, and sadly, that's how this works, from a business perspective, they can't update it to Android Nougat because that won't bring them money, they are working on the P9, the Honor 8 and other new devices (I don't remember how those are called)

That's what I was thinking. There is no info at all on the Internet. I imagined the OP had more info on this.
I think they might update the phone to show others how good is Huawei because they support old phones and even lite version for 2y+.
Theoretically they said they would give updates to phones made two years ago or less. And since the p8lite is from May 2015 I think, we theoretically should receive the new update. However we might not receive it, and personally I dont think we will. What we CAN do is if we dont get the update, massively spam huawei's social media pages lol.

It's so ****ing hard to think ?! Maybe they will release more updates for this phone but insignificant...little updates for the 6.0. I'm sure we will never get the 7.0 from Huawei.
Huawei isn't going to update this phone. Huawei releases a lot of phone in a year so if they start updating it would take a lot of time. Even if it does we won't get update untill September 2017.
For all this phones are enough developers and enough money, so updates shouldn't be a problem. New phones are no problem, too. It's just possible. EMUI 4.1 will come

Huawei Nova? Honor 5x? Mate 8/9?
China Mobile Version Honor 5A is a new phone that also runs Hisilicon Kirin 620.Maybe it can receive updates. We could give a try to port it.
It's pointless. It's better to have AOSP/Cm than port Huawei rom.

Can be a source for eventuali nougat drivers for Kirin 620 actually
Android 7.1 is really nice on Moto G. App-Shortcuts is a really nice feature. Is that on EMUI 4.1/5.0 too?
The EMUI page on Facebook refers to an event regarding EMUI 5 happening on November 3 in Munich, Germany. https://www.facebook.com/HuaweiEMUI/
That's great. Hope we get it. Otherwise the old Moto G 2013 beat the newer P8 Lite
i dunno, but updating from Lollipop to MM was an big mistake, so should updating to nougat (if it comes) be better ??
Huawei Mobile*has released the Android 7 Nougat update for the P9, P9 Lite and Mate 8 devices. Why they haven't done the same for the P8, P8 Lite and Mate S, this*only leads to one conclusion:
Huawei*only cares about the factory line revenue generation of their P9, P9 Lite and newer devices! All you customers who purchased new P8, P8 Lite and Mate S*a few months back, you can be sure that Huawei*only wants you to buy a newer mobile phones and leave older devices even if they are still sufficient by hardware side.
The hardware requirements for Android Nougat are irrefutably the same as Android Marshmallow.* Where is 18 month software support?

If I remember correctly it isn't really Huawei's fault. Google doesn't support the version for P8 because of security issues.
Anyway I wouldn't really looking for the Android 7.0, most of the UI is available in Launchers like Nova and other pars of it doesn't really make much of a difference.

EMUI 5 uses new filesystem format which makes phone faster and makes the phone fast even after a long time of usage becauses it doesnt fragment data, i think it could be noticable in midend phone like P8, shame we wont have it...

Yeah, imo Huawei should've though ahead about their hardware compatibility.

i dont know M8 but what i can say is huawei itself comfirmed that model P8 wont get further versions of android except those with security patch, Have HTC ever said that they will never get nougat? i think that even if huawei could bring it to us later, they just wont anymore, they released TOO many new devices since then, if they had to maintain all of them they would get crazy and no profit from that what so ever, if there is any hope is very, very small, and i dont have any anymore
I don't have a P8 but I remember always wanting one due to the awesome design. If developers can port Nougat to My Galaxy S4 then I really don't see why Hauwei can't make an official release for the p8. With 2 year software updates the norm I find this extremely unacceptable. The vulkan requirement is false, for I can run nougat on a S4 (custom ROM) and have no graphical issues at all. Good luck with your petition.

nope, you ain't seeing nougat on p8. we chinese users have been asking huawei since the release of emui 5, and all the answer from them is "no major functional upgrades, but security patches will continue". so stop hoping for official emui 5, and cross your fingers for third-party flavors like lineage. btw based on the status of the cm13 and lineage13 here, lineageos suooprt seems promising.

thats right, unfortunatelly im not willing to take this compromise, the phone takes fantastic photos and it doesnt pay off just for some extra features that doesnt matter in real life anyway, emui has everything that people could need, awesome battery life, fast ui, great phone manager and the most important for me, pro camera

This is one thing holding me back from Huawei phones. From my previous experience, Huawei don't offer a reliable schedule of security updates. You get a couple and they seem to move onto thier next release and forget everything else.
Are they still like this? How have you got on with previous Huawei phones?
I'm on the fence regarding this also - my previous experience was that UK devices had poor update support - while EU devices were far better - waiting to see this time (not fussed about missing out on any Watch/Charger promotion).

very wise. also, if you give it a couple of months to see how it gets on the price will fall too. Might be worth buying from amazon.de before March 29th to retain EU warranty. Should get better updates from the EU phone. I've been told by a contact at Huawei, that the Three network are causing the delays in the UK. Even if your are on a different network!
Has a quick look to see how the Mate 10 pro is getting on with updates. Sadly its not good. Looks like most M10P users have been put off with the M20P for this reason. Why can't Huawei on this?

I didn't get many on my last Huawei phone despite Firmware Finder. My Pixel gets them every month on the same network. That is why people are whining.
Change carriers. They obviously favor Google phones. I'm even bit unsatisfied by too many updates for Mate 10 pro cuz I like to factory reset phone after each.
Taking a look at FF they pushed out 16 updates for EU region in last 12 months. Champions of updates I'd say

Trouble is from my experience EU had great update support, UK had poor support often 2 or 3 software updates behind (although I think security updates were a bit more regular). If I get a Mate 20 I’d be tempted to get a dual sim EU model over the single sim UK one.

This is why i use a pixel. Huawei in the UK seem to lag behind. Rumours are the 3 network is holding up precedings. This will affect you even if you're on a different network.
Several several years ago, I swore never to buy a Huawei phone again because of the horrendous lack of updates. Back then it was the enormous jump from KK to lollipop. Nexus devices back then we're about to jump to marshmallow before Huawei updated their phone to lollipop. This was on the Ascend Mate 7.
I am tempted to get the Mate 20 Pro, but am afraid of the lack of support. I'm debating on the Huawei phone vs the 6T at this point. Choices.. I enjoy wide angle lenses but also enjoy smooth stock android. If only the 6T had a wide angle lens, it wouldn't even be a debate for me.

Same as me, I swore i'd never buy Huawei again because of their poor support. Its a lot of money to drop on a phone that will get dropped. Does anyone know how Android treble is working out for Huawei? Will this alleviate any fears?
I was complaining to my wife that my lg g7 only got one update since I got it. She, on the other hand, was annoyed because of how many updates she got since she had the p20 pro. Although, her phone was not bought from a carrier.
Or maybe Huawei has a new approach to updates? Considering the fact that they've stated numerous times that they want to become the #1 phone manufacturer, or beat samsung (something like that). And consistent updates would take a lot from samsung's market, knowing how inconsistent they are.
Also, huawei is one of the first to come with pie updates, which gives me confidence in them. "Don't forget about oneplus". Yeah, oneplus only has to worry about softwear, given the fact that their hardwear is borrowed from whatstheirface.
Mate 10 updates have been solid for me here in NZ, no issues with frequency of security updates.
There is one phone for UK/ EU this time. Put a sim inside, and it will OTA add your networks specific network settings/apps/maybe a splash screen. Factory reset, and everything is removed, including splash screen.
I am hoping this new system also means faster updates in the UK as well.
Will the Pixel get updates quicker and potentially for longer. Probably yes. That's the choice you have to make.

Actually, it's even better than you describe. As far as security and OS updates are concerned, there's one phone for non-China and one phone for China. Previously we had software updates separated by branding (Asia/C636, Europe/C432, UK/C782, Middle East/C185) as well as by dual sim or single sim (L09/L29)
As things are with the new models, there is one firmware file for every non-Chinese Mate 20 Pro, and one firmware file for every Chinese Mate 20 Pro. Then there are separate files for branding-related changes which can be updated and packaged separately from the main firmware file.
The result is that one update file is valid for all of the non-Chinese phones, to update the features, security patch, etc.
This is a new thing with EMUI 9, and it will also apply to older phones updated to EMUI 9, like P20 series, Mate 10 series, so on.
My carrier Optus is unfortunately well known for failing to provide regular Huawei updates so hopefully I will eventually be able to debrand my Mate 20 Pro somehow.
If you're feeling unsure about security updates, this might make you feel better
